Probably the best part about this diner is that it's open 24 hours and there isn't another place open 24/7 in the area. It's a very clean establishment. I went here recently late night, around 2 or 3 am. They apparently stop serving alcohol at some time but I'm unsure when this is. My friend got pancakes, I'm not sure how they were but she did eat all of them. The menu is huge, to he point where it does become a little difficult to order. I asked the waiter a few options and he recommended the Greek panini. I think this was a good choice. The panini was good but the feta was very dry and made the panini dry, the tazki ( spelling is way off) sauce was on he side which was nice for fry dipping but woulda been really nice on the sandwich too. The sauce was actually really good, the highlight of the meal. I have a feeling breakfast and greek food are the best options here. I will return when I need another late night meal but wouldn't choose it during the day when they're are other options as it is just average diner fare. Service had never been disappointing.
Review Source:The pancakes were burned but even burned pancakes are good. Â Service was really bad, with the waitress disappearing when it was time to pay. Â We thought her shift had ended because she was really gone but couldn't she have told us? Weird. Â The restaurant ran out of cherry cheesecake. Â Huh? Â How do you do that? Â Why three stars? Â Because they are open at 11:30 pm. Â You can't beat these Greek diners.
Review Source:WARNING: This is one of the longest most thorough reviews you will read about a roadside diner.
To all the people saying the food is bad and complaining about the crab meat stuffed mushrooms and other exquisite dishes they ordered... newsflash manhattanites: it's a fucking diner upstate in one of the most disgusting towns in New York state, lower your expectations a bunch kthx.
Anyhow, my boyfriend and I went here this past Saturday after a halloween party and I was pleasantly surprised at how clean the diner was. For being in Newburgh, a town where in parts the buildings are run down, the main roads unpaved and sidewalks covered in hypodermics, garbage and dust heads the hygiene of this place did surprise me. However, the water tasted like toilet water... almost forcing you to have to buy an overpriced beverage and the food prices are inflated because they are right on the side of a major highway.
The waitress we had was so rude. I meant to remember her name I think it's Carline but there's a small chance it could be some other C name. From the time she came over to the table she had this nasty vibe about her, she probably thought we weren't going to tip but jokes on her my man is a waiter and he always tips generously. He asked how much it would be to add an egg and she kept saying "I don't know, I need to put it in the computer first." Â Fine, but our table was 6 feet away from the computer. Soooo you couldn't have said "hold on one second" took 10 steps behind you and told us before we completed our order? Fine, whatever shit happens.
Our food came out wrong, well mine did. I ordered canadian bacon, egg and cheese on a bagel. It came out on a roll. I waited for her to come over and I politely told her "this was supposed to be on a bagel" she looks bewildered. She says "oh they gave you a roll" and I replied "well yeah they gave me a roll but I ordered a bagel." Â "Oh you want it on a bagel?" ...no I want it on a fucking flank of steak bitch LOL I wasn't lying when I said I wanted it on a bagel.
She grabbed it disgruntledly and snarled as she walked away with it. My boyfriend got pissed and went up to the owner to complain, the food coming out wrong could have been the chef's fault but there was no excuse for this bitch's attitude. He did the right thing and without us even asking, suggesting or thinking about it he took my $7 breakfast sandwich off of the tab.
My advice: go to this place with low expectations, and make sure you don't get the same waitress that we did.
I stopped here while on a road trip. Â After being seated promptly, I was met with an encyclopedia of a menu. Â The waitress was unpersonable and neglected to give the usual pleasantries. Â She didn't know all of the items on the menu because it was too long for her to remember so she twice had to ask another staff member basic questions like, "what type of steak is in the Land & Sea?" Â I ordered an appetizer of mushrooms with crab stuffing. Â It was served steaming hot so I could not eat it right away. Â The crab was a C- and the mushrooms were soggy. Â It was served over a bed of rice pilaf that was bland and uninteresting -- two slices of orange on the side though for nice presentation! Â Next, I got a cup of chicken & rice soup, which was also too hot to eat right away. Â The pieces of chicken were tiny and the taste fell squarely in between water and purified water. Â Then, the grand finale came. Â I was adventurous (stupid?) enough to order broiled scallops -- I was in a seafood mode for whatever reason. Â I got about 12 scallops served with a little garnish. Â Apple sauce and bland steamed vegetables on the side. Â As I took my first bite of the "scallops" I couldn't help but think to myself: "this is spectacularly and unequivocally awful." Â I forced down three more and slowly chewed on the rubbery, unfrozen and flash-broiled paprika-drenched insipid blobs that tasted nothing like scallops. Â Around the 5th scallop I started to feel sick but champed through 2 more so as not to offend my waitress who said nothing when she served me the three courses. Â Overall, the best things I had were iced tea with splenda and mott's apple sauce. Â I spent the next hour in the car wondering if I was going to have to pull over to the side of the road. Â I lived to tell the tale.
Review Source:A typical diner with a great location right off the 84. Â Very easy to get to.
The menu was a little long, but it was a good environment for breakfast with some friends
Portions were average to above average and the price was slightly higher than I'd expect from a diner.
All in all not a bad experience.
Stopped here on a road trip. Â Good service (no long wait for seating or to place an order). Â The waitress was attentive. Â The menu has your typical diner options (i.e. everything). Â Ordered a turkey melt and a chicken caesar salad and they were both delicious. Â Not a fan of their version of potato salad (was a little too mayo/creamy for my taste) but I suspect that others might like it. Â
You have to love this place though. Â It is your classic all-American diner, neon lights and all.
I had high hopes for Alexis Diner, Â but left disappointed. Â Both my fiance & I ordered the eggs benedict with homefries. Â Our meals were greasy & barely edible. Â We left $30.00 poorer and feeling sick to our stomachs. Â The service was okay, but we'll pass on this place from now on.
Review Source:Daughter and friends  called diner ahead to tell diner a large group was coming yet when they got there would not let group sit together Made her sit with people she barely knew . when the bill came charged them way to much money and they were very rude 50 families from Cornwall won't be going back to your diner
Review Source:The best diner in the area. Â I went to Lexus once a week with my grandparents ever since i moved to Newburgh. Â Â This place not ony reminds me of them, but the food is consistantly good. Â My girlfriend just went out now to pick up carry-out (i am sick or i world have went). Â Menu is huge. Â This makes it great for large crowds..... There is something for everybody. Â The owners/staff are always friendly, and still always say something positive about my grandparents when we (regurlarly) come in.
I really love this place.
Always a reliable place for a great meal. All the waitresses are very friendly, I do have to mention one in particular (I don't know her name) but she's probably in her 50s, short dark hair (used to be blond), she's exceptional! She always goes out of her way to treat my daughter like gold, such as bringing her extra pickles (which she loves) and giving her a little bag of cookies at the end of her meal, I sincerely hope the Alexis Diner knows what an asset they have in her. I'll have to find out her name so I can update this!
Review Source:I went to college near here and Alexis Diner is just about my only fond memory of the region. Â The menu is endless, every time I went here I'd try something different and never be disappointed. Â You can't beat the breakfast options, huge omelettes, thick slices of french toast, and excellent coffee. The plates are huge, you will never leave hungry.
Service is super quick, and the waiters wear bow ties which amuses me for some reason.
The decor is perfect, tons of neon and mirrors, and each room has a painting of a different country. Â Why? I have no idea, but I love it. Â There's one painting of a gondola driver in Venice that looks like he's smuggling sausage in his pants, and it's right next to your face if you sit there. Â It makes me laugh every time.
Alexis is your typical diner--nothing too fancy, huge menu that you could spend hours pouring over, and the best place to meet up with a friend that you haven't seen in ages (since they'll never hover over you and make you feel like you need to vacate the table).
You can pretty much have your choice of cuisine...Greek, Italian, Mexican, breakfast, etc. I never get anything too complicated and have never been disappointed (or blown away, for that matter).
I am impressed by the cleanliness and service everytime though. For the area it's in, it's a rare quality.
So come here if you enjoy the diner atmosphere and are not looking for haute cuisine--you won't be disappointed.
I really like this place. Â Considering there are several options in the area this is the only place I've ventured from my normal cheese burger deluxe.
Their cheeseburger deluxe is pretty darn good and I've even ordered french toast at 12am on a weekend. Â I completely expected some toaster style french toast and it almost looked toaster style when I got it but damn was it good (and no I was not drunk at 12am either; very sober).
The place is clean & well kept, service prompt and a really good overall experience. Â I've gone several times to this diner and as recent as last weekend.
It's always better at the Alexis! We love this place and have been coming here for a few years now. It is an especially welcome beacon of yummy delights after a very long car ride from NC at any hour. One would be hard pressed to not find something delectable on their pages long menu but I recommend brunch foods at all hours. They have the most delicious blueberry pancakes and omelets! You may have to queue for a few at weekend brunch but it will be worth it. It is good for large groups too who are easily accommodated in their Egypt Room. I can almost taste the papyrus now! Bring it on George!!!
Review Source:I love the Lexus Diner. Â I will always call it the Lexus Diner even though they were forced to change their name. Â My gf makes me take her here every time we're in my hometown. Â This past weekend we went twice. Â Here's why:
1) every room has a mural of a different country. Â You could be seated in Italy, Egypt or others. Â It's fun and kitschy.
2) the service is excellent and quick. Â Super sweet servers, always checking in. Â Hardly ever a wait.
3) Open 24 hours
4) VAST menu - from typical diner breakfasts to HUGE sandwiches, fish platters, Mexican dishes, etc. Â You can get just about anything and the food is all reasonably good. Â Not superb but solid.
5) Affordable food. Â Affordable cocktails.
I love the Lexus and Jen does too.
One of the big 2 in the area - this one is usually where we end up when we're on this side of town and craving diner - or meeting the in-laws for brunch - or my boss and I need dinner before a late night meeting (and we're on that side of town). Â I have yet to have anything there I hated - the gyros are truly nummy - but I think my favorite thing on the menu are the fried mushrooms. Â Oh, fried mushrooms, how do I love thee - and if you ask nicely, they will give them to you in place of fries with your burger. Â I don't love their breakfasts - the BEC sandwiches are a little big for me and so are the omelets - but too much food is one of those totally subjective stars. Â The lunch special combination's are a good value for money - and the matzo ball soup is pretty darn good, even if my Bubie didn't make it herself. Â All in all - if you like NY diner - the Alexis is a good local choice.
Review Source:The menu here borders on schizophrenic. It runs the gamut from traditional diner fare to Greek cuisine, Italian, seafood, steak... the menu goes on forever.
Usually when a restaurant has way too many items on the menu it's a bad sign. That axiom certainly held true at the Alexis Diner. The food was just bad. They managed to make a ham and cheese melt unappetizing which is pretty difficult to do. They put white American cheese on it instead of cheddar or swiss -- I wasn't asked what kind of cheese I wanted. I sampled some other items including a pastrami sandwich and burger and was unimpressed with those as well.
This place is open 24 hrs which is probably the best thing it has going for it.
Preface: to all the Jennifers and Jessicas and Michaels and Stevens out there, I always envied you. Â Keychains, magnets, notebooks, mugs, mini license plates-- everything personalizable comes in your names. Â My name, not so much (although these days it's coming back into fashion). Â How depressing to spin and spin the display spinner and see Alana, Alexandra, Amanda...... sigh. Â No Alexis.
But I am no longer jealous! Â I have a whole DINER with my name on a huge neon sign, all the parking spaces, the menus, even the freaking ECLAIRS!
For my 200th review, I wanted something special. Â After picking up a visitor at Stewart Airport (review to follow) we serendipitously passed a sign for the Alexis Diner. Â Call it kismet. Â Call it fate. Â CALL IT THE BEST DAMN DINER EVER!
It's the cleanest, nicest highway diner I've been to, which a huge menu full of all your usual diner staples. Â We ordered up some sandwiches and were thrilled with the huge, salty, slightly crisp on the outside, thick potatoey on the inside fries, which were honestly the best fries I think I've ever had. Â My tuna sandwich was overstuffed and my bf's sister's turkey burger immense. Â This is diner food at its Alexisest.
And it's named after me! Â Extra star for that!
