Another family favorite in Crystal Lake. Â Right downtown, this is a storefront place that serves a decent breakfast. Â I had the usual, CFS with eggs OM, crispy hash browns. Â Andy's family did it just right, eggs were cooked perfectly, and it came with a side of biscuits, clearly homemade, and cut in half and griddled for a nice, crispy top.
Yum. Â Can't say as I'll be back, as this place is too far off the beaten path for me, but I'll sure remember it if I'm ever up that way again.
Not horrible, but the worst breakfast place I've found in C.L. (Benedict's The Olympic, and Brunch Cafe in McHenry are my rotation - this place can't hold a candle to any of them) - a little dingy, decor right out of 1983 (although I can see how that would be part of the charm to people who love this place) BAD cheese in Omlet (tasted like Kraft singles) and menu was a little nickel and dimey (50 cents for this, 25 for this, 75 cents for this substitution....just raise prices $2 across the board - you'll make more $ and people won't feel like you're being nickeled and dimed.).
Again - if someone insisted on going there, I'd go - but it would never be my first choice in town.
For this place, the feature that makes it AMAZING is the service! We walked in and were greeted promptly. The waitress was extremely friendly and welcoming. As my sister put it, "I just want to hug her!" When we would ask for something extra or substitution, she responded, "Hon, they can do whatever you like." Also, if your in to the true diner experience, this is the place to go. When people would walk in the wait staff would greet them by name. Almost made you feel like family!
Review Source:I am posting this for my 3 year old son. Â
He loves "Angies' Pancackes" ! Â It has been our Sunday tradition for some time to have breakfast at Andy's and get Pancakes and Dino Eggs.
The ham off the bone in the morning is perfect on the Eggs Benedict with tons of hollandaise sauce. Â A heart stopper, but worth it.
Really, anything with the ham in it i rocks. Â
The waitstaff and owners are like family ... it is like going to a really busy home of your inlaws and all their guests.
It is THE local spot in Crystal Lake.
This is my favorite breakfast place to go in the Crystal Lake area. they are always really nice here and the kids love it when the owner comes out and gives them a half-dollar out of his apron and says hello. The pancakes are the best around, the eggs are always cooked PERFECT and the sausage links are killer! very peppery but thats why I love em. even on sunday mornings we never seem to have to wait long for a seat and we always leave FULL
Review Source:Nice local Greek diner. Â A lot of the Crystal Lake locals come here, and for good reason. Â Good food and service with a smile. Â We often get the same waitress and she'll crack jokes and always greet us with a smile.
Good food as I said, try the Greek-style chicken. Â
Cash only - they have an ATM inside though.
I have had great experiences every time that I have gone into Andy's. My wife, daughter and I ate here this past Sunday. We got there at rush hour...10AM on a Sunday. There was just a short 5-10 minute wait and we were seated in a comfy booth.
The family that runs this place does it in a very happy way. Everyone that greeted us from our entrance in the door to the bus boy taking away our dirty plates did so in a I like to be here working and serving you good food kind a way. This means a lot!! If their happy, then I as a customer will be happy too!
My wife had her usual ham & cheese omelet, while I tried the Grecian Delite Skillet with gyro meat...both were very tasty. The Grecian skillet came with a side cup of Tzatziki sauce & this mixed perfectly into the skillet. I would highly recommend trying this!
Overall this place does it for me. We have decided that this is our new go to for diner food, replacing Around The Clock.
We're new to the area and have found Andy's Diner to be a friendly, busy, good food place to go. Â We especially like their whitefish which is hard to find. Â Service is good, reminds one of older experienced waitresses who've been there for years and knows everyone. Â The menu is large and varied and food portions are generous, often enough for another meal at home. Â Prices are very reasonable and they will make substitutions and tailor your order to your liking. Â Its one of our favorite spots.
Review Source:I'll NEVER go here again. Went on a Sunday around 11:30 with my sons and stood at the "please wait to be seated" for 5-10 mins before all three of us got impatient and walked out. NOBODY took the time to seat us, or ever acknowledge us. I saw one, then two, then three tables open, people walking around, and us being treated as if invisible. If you like to be stood up and ignored, not to mention the difficult parking enjoy yourself. I hadn't been there in a couple years and WILL NEVER waste my time again be left high and dry.
Review Source:Met my parents here for lunch after reading the reviews on Yelp and I wasn't disappointed. The place was constantly busy which is a good sign for me and good turnover as our party of four plus a highchair was seated very quickly. The menu was typical Greek diner/restaurant fare plus they serve breakfast all day. The owner even came around to all of the tables to check on their service and she told us that they opened the restaurant 28 years ago.
The food was very good and served hot. The portions are large and the hash browns were not greasy and the omelot I ordered was perfect. Everyoneelse liked their meals as well. They are kid friendly as well. We will definitely be returning. One thing wirth mentioning - they accept only cash - no credit cards.
