Came here with our family on one of the first very nice nights of the year and sat outside. It was so pleasant! We did not notice any "fumes" from Roosevelt Road as another poster complained. We had a baby in our group and ordered her dinner first, and our server was very accomodating with that. My only minor complaint was that the baby's dinner came and we still hadn't gotten any silverware so we could not cut up her food until we got that, and the baby was a little impatient! But it was a busy night. Others have complained about the food being pricey, but I did order a filet and I felt I got very good value for the price. It was a good size, cooked pretty close to how I ordered it, and very tasty. We all ordered different things and each meal was good! There were many menu items that looked good so we will be back to try something else. Especially since they seem family friendly!
Review Source:Met some friends after work yesterday for the Hawks game. They have a good selection of beers, and a great happy hour appetizer offer from 3-6 in the bar area. We had the steak fajita quesadillas and the nachos platter, both were excellent. Service was good, staff was friendly and attentive. Didn't make it to the restaurant section, but it appeared busy.
Review Source:My boyfriend and I recently went to Anyway's for dinner. Â We had an awful experience. Â We sat in the bar area so we could watch some of the games that were on. Â The waitress came to the table on several occasions to ask if we needed anything and before we could respond, she was gone. Â We had to ask another waitress to refill our drinks. Â We were going to stay after eating, but decided to go elsewhere because the service was so bad. Â
Then we get the check. Â My boyfriend gave his credit card to pay the bill. Â When the reciept came, we noticed that it was a different price than the bill. Â We were promised that the card was not run at that price and the bill would be adjusted. Â We were also promised that the card was not run twice. Â Come Monday, my boyfriend check his statement to find that they indeed ran the card twice (two different amounts.) Â When he called to dispute this, he was told by an employee that they would "probably" refund the card. Â He was not comfortable with a "probably" answer, so he asked for the manager. Â He was then put on hold for about 15 minutes without anyone coming back to the phone.
After this experience and just OK food, I will never be back. Â According to the credit card company, this is a trick restaurants like to do in hopes that people don't notice and they make an extra buck. Â So, watch out!! Â I will definitely be telling my family and friends that Anyway's likes to steal people's money.
I really like this place. I wish there were more places like it on the west side - we drive at least 30 mins for those times we just want reasonably priced comfort food. They have consistent food and consistent service, but it is NOT another national chain and you can tell the difference. I like the burgers and the sandwiches the best. They have a nice and varied kids menu, and in general a nice environment for kids (disclaimer: we have only gone during off hours -late lunches and early dinners- so I'm not sure how they are prime time.) I really like the environment - wood and fireplaces and separate rooms and large windows and space between the tables - it is all just really comfortable and relaxing. We will keep going back!
Review Source:Looking at my past week or two of reviews... we spend a lot of time in bar/grill type places. But I am not ashamed. These types of places tend to have tasty, comforty food in a comfortable atmosphere.
Anyway's major failing is that stray, unnecessary apostrophe. On the whole, though, it has good specials, tasty food, and low prices.
On our most recent visit, I got one of their specials, a shrimp po'boy, and I have to say, it was very good. I've had a few po'boys in New Orleans, which gives me an idea at least, and this one was pretty close. Great crusty bread, tasty fried shrimp, nicely dressed. Their fries are skin-on and nicely done too.
Service is always friendly and it's hard to spend too much. Plus they send out lots of coupons and a free entree on your birthday. Score.
The food is OK. I've been here many times and each time the food is just OK. Everytime I go, I try to order something different hoping that it will be better than OK but no luck so far. The place is usually pretty busy so there are definitely a lot of people in the Villa Park area that like OK food. Â For the price point of their menu, I am looking for more. Â If you like OK food, go try it otherwise I would recommend heading south to Butterfield/22nd. Â There are many more dining options.
Review Source:Had the rib dinner with garlic mashed potatoes. Very good! Ribs were fall off the bone type. Delicious sauce as well. Only complaint is we repeatedly had to ask our server for refills of water and soft drinks. We also got see the Chicago Black Hawks win another game! TV's are all over the place at this establishment.
Review Source:I stopped in here while on a business trip to the area. Â While it was prime dinner time, I was promptly seated. Â The atmosphere was pretty typical of a sports bar/pub restaurant. Â The first thing I noticed was that the service was great. Â The wait staff was attentive, but not overly so. Â
The food itself was good. Â I had the Anyway's burger with bacon and guacamole. Â It was prepared well, and tasted good. Â
Overall I would say this place isn't going to knock your socks off with the food, but for a local restaurant with pub food, it's a good option with good service.
I know this a popular place and I'm glad for that. I do love the environment- different rooms with tables and booths- it has a warm feel and it looks especially pretty when the Christmas lights are up (they still are, by the way!) :) I like coming here to catch up with people instead of just a quick meal. They have large tables for groups too.
They have a patio in the summer which is fun.
I have been here about 10 times over the years- like I said, it's a popular place with people I know. I almost always have ordered the chicken salad sandwich- I like that it has apples and cherries in it. Â The last couple of times it didn't excite me so yesterday I ventured out of my comfort zone and tried the Asian Chicken Salad. I should have stuck to what I know! The chicken on it was dry and a little burned, impossible to cut, and just didn't taste good to me. The mandarin oranges were soggy. The chow mein noodles weren't the ones that restaurants usually use- they are the thicker ones you buy at the grocery store- they just didn't seem to fit. The lettuce was mostly iceberg and the dressing wasn't great. It's probably just my taste, but I was disappointed. It was also pretty soggy. Huge portion, though! I was bummed.
I am glad I ordered the cream of chicken and wild rice soup- that was very tasty and had an extra ingredient- not sure if it was dill or something but it added a unique taste and I liked it. Very good.
My friend ordered the macaroni and cheese and it looked good- baked, with bacon and bread crumbs- also a huge portion. She said she always orders it. It didn't come with anything else- just a huge bowl of that.
The service was fine- the menu is large. I just don't love it as much as many other places. Still, it's a cool gathering place in the area.
Good restaurant for a sandwich and other fare on their menu. One of my favorites is the Rueben half sandwich with soup, especially on a Wednesday night with their potatoe soup. So far I have not had a soup that was not good. My wife likes the cool ranch wrap that includes chicken, cheese, ranch dressing, more... in pita bread. I have also enjoyed some of their chicken sandwiches where there is a variety.
Review Source:Kind of obsessed with this place. Â
Boy asks "Where should we go for dinner tonight? Let me guess? Anyways?"
We have always had great service, great food, and a great time. Â It's rare that you frequent a place so often and you never have ONE negative experience. Â The staff is friendly and personable, and the owner is adorable. Â Reasonably priced. Â What more can I say. Â
One of our favorite places. Â We love you!
My friend and I were looking for a place to have dinner and since I haven't yet explored the Villa Park/Oak Brook area too much, we weren't sure where to go. She passed along Anyway's on her way to my house, so we decided to give it a shot.
I've driven down Roosevelt a few times now but hadn't noticed this restaurant, perhaps because of the construction going on. It's nicer than the average pub, has a bar area and an outdoor patio. The patio seems like it would be a bit noisy being right on Roosevelt, but I think I'd still give it a shot in warmer weather.
They have a lot of options on their menu. I had a really hard time deciding what I wanted. They have a Munster cheese and avocado burger which sounds delicious and probably would have if I hadn't just eaten a burger a few days back. They have fajitas, burritos, ribs, sandwiches, wraps, burgers, and vegetarian options. I finally settled on a turkey and avocado wrap, minus the chipotle sauce. Unfortunately, they forgot to take that off, so there were moments where my mouth was on fire.
The prices are a little high for being a pub. My wrap was $8 which was fine, but the prices did deter me from getting other things, such as the homemade baked mac and cheese which sounded delicious, but was $10. That's a little too high. They do have beer specials though, and you can have a beer of the month for $3.50. They have plenty of choices too, but I wasn't in the mood for a beer this particular night.
I'll probably come back again, perhaps to watch the game and have a few appetizers. My friend and I did split the nachos, which come with melted shredded cheese as opposed to cheese sauce. It's a nice atmosphere and a good option. Yeah it's nothing fancy, but there seems to be something for everyone's tastes.
I have been here many times and the experience is consistently good.
Staff - really friendly and efficient - 4 stars
Outdoor  garden - very nice ambiance considering it faces Roosevelt Road - 4 stars
Parking - a little difficult but ok  - 3 stars
Menu - extensive  - 4 stars
Portions - very generous - 5 stars
Desserts - huge for the price - 5 stars
Anyway's is a fun restaurant that serves a variety of favorites: burgers, burritos, pasta, pizza, ribs, salads, etc. I visit specifically for the Tex Mex burrito. It is huge, delicious, and packed with rice and beans, guacamole on the side. The dining room is classy but casual, and wait staff has always been prompt. I recommend stopping in at this pub for lunch or dinner. There is something on the menu for just about everyone.
Review Source:It's a decent, if unspectacular, establishment. In a word, you'll be "whelmed" with Anyway's.
My wife and I came here a year ago and remember nothing about our meal, so we returned. Server Erika, pleasant and ever-smiling, suggested fish tacos and crusted mac and cheese, along with their burgers, ribs and pasta.
The mac and cheese was purported to be "to die for," but I would object to such a sad death. It actually wasn't macaroni (nitpicky, I know), the onions were not caramelized per menu description, and the crumbly things on top had little flavor and reminded me of the awful cafeteria mac and cheese of my District 60 youth. The cheese wasn't as tangy as I wanted either. I guess it was okay in the grand scheme, but Stouffer's is better, sorry to say.
My wife's grilled fish tacos were a good deal better. Whatever kind of fish it was - and who knows if anyone gets the kind of fish they think they're ordering - it was seasoned nicely and combined with tomato and pico de gallo in a soft tortilla for a pleasant mouthfeel. It was the kind of taco that drips just a little on your plate, not a river down your forearm. The accompanying black beans and rice were excellent and possibly the highlight of the meal. Not sure if these tacos match up to those at Chicks and Salsa in Glen Ellyn, but they're not far off.
Strip away the Chicago mural on the back wall and Anyway's decor is reminiscent of an Irish pub chain, with lots of wood and green. It has a pleasant layout, not too open or confining, with a fireplace and a large and inviting L-shaped bar. No live entertainment is offered, but it may still be a place to have a good time with friends some evening, especially in the summer with their well-designed enclosed outdoor patio.
If I come here for drinks, I'll probably enjoy my experience more. But this place was just okay for me today. In a pinch, Anyway's will do the trick; with its large menu, it's got something for everyone. But it might lack something for everyone as well.
I have been here a million times, and the food is always consistent. Â Is it gourmet? Â No. Â Just average bar type food, which sometimes is all you want. Â One of my favorite items from the menu is the turkey chili. Â It's delicious and tastes freshly homemade. Â I also enjoy the buffalo chicken salad.
One of the reasons I like to come here is that there is always a good drink special. Â Last time we went they had $3/16oz draft beer. Â Not bad.
Many years ago, my friends had my wedding shower here. Â They did a fantastic job for a very reasonable price. Â We got to pick out the menu, and they even sectioned off the room with the fireplace as we requested. Â Good people to do business with.
Wasn't my pick to to dine here today, but i went with a friend anyway to Anyway's. Â Sat in the bar area where there is a pool table, a bunch of tv's, around seven tables that seat four near a fireplace. Â On Wednesday they have 3 dollar absolut and $3 draft beers. Â Was not a big selection, but I ordered a stella.
The menu was pretty big. Â They had burgers, ribs, steaks, pastas, chicken, fish tacos, meatloaf, and a lot of apps. Â I ordered a vodka sauce rigatoni with chicken, mushrooms, capicola, and parm cheese. Â My friend ordered a chx alfredo with broccoli. Â We also ordered cheesy garlic bread with a marinara sauce.
After ordering I second guessed our ordering pasta at a bar, but to my surprise mine was decent. Â I thought the sauce made the dish. Â My friends dish on the other hand was not so good. Â They forgot to put broccoli in his dish. Â He sent it back and within a couple minutes viola, microwaved broccoli that was pretty bad. Â The cheesy garlic bread was tasty but the marinara was a little sweet for my liking.
Service- Â Was greeted by a waitress when we sat down asking for a drink order. Â She took our order, got us our first round, and that was the last time we saw her. Â A different server brought out our food. Â My friend had to flag down a busser to ask for broccoli. Â Nobody ever asked if it was good or if we needed anything else. Â The busser also ran our cc's and that finished the meal.
Not the worst place to dine, but also not the best. Â If I could give half stars i would rate this place 2 and half stars.
Anyway's is a decent place for a burger and a beer. Â The menu is large, mostly bar fare. Â Burgers, sandwiches, salads. Â The beer selection is good, not great, but good. Â 3 Floyds, Goose Island and the usual staples. Â The staff is friendly, a little slow but nice. Â They have plenty of TVs for sports in the bar and the dining rooms. Â The bar area is separate from the dining rooms and has plenty of space for small to medium size groups.
Review Source:We try to support local restaurants that are not chains and Anyways is one of our favorites. Â Our whole family loves this restaurant/bar. Â I have had nearly everything on the menu and love it all; I have a really hard time deciding what to eat (my husband always gets the Dilla Salad). Â They have great drink and food specials. Â It is always our "go to" place. Â Our family of 4 can often eat (and have a drink) for under $40 with tip! The wait staff doesn't hover but is always around when you need something. Â It has intimate areas if there are just 2 of you but plenty of area for a large group. Â It is not saturated with kids but has a good kids menu.
Honestly, I am a bit shocked that not everyone loves it as much as we do. Â The location is odd but fits a nitch of no other place around. Â I think it is a really good deal; the sizable outdoor patio is great in the summer; Â the indoor fireplaces are cozy in the winter. Â The "Chicago Atmosphere" is really not over done and seeing that the skyline is visible on a clear day from the restaurant, I don't think it is that much of a stretch.
It is funny, this restaurant has been around for awhile. Â My college roommate and I used to drive out from the city to go there just because it was relaxing and a good deal. Â I would definitely give it a try if you are out near Oak Brook and are looking to avoid the barrage of over-priced corporate chains that proliferate the area.
Kinda funny that I drove past this place every day for two years and never even noticed it's existence, Â but the bosses were paying so I joined the celebration! Â
The calamari was actually very good, not just for a pub, but for any restaurant. Â Not chewy, cooked just right. Â My cider never ran dry, and the pulled pork sammich was also very good! Â Sad to say the leftover fries didn't work out, but they never do, right?
Liked the beer garden area, but the strip mall locale does not make for the nicest ambiance. Â The place seemed huge though, a couple pool tables and several large tvs, seemed like it would be great for a group.
I would gladly go again if someone else were paying.
Don't expect any gourmet or inventive items on the menu. This is just a neighborhood joint that serves up good (albeit average) food. I've been here several times over the last few years--It's one of those places that's kind of a "last resort" choice when the hubs and I are in the area and just want to eat and can't really think of other places to try.
I always get the burgers and haven't been disappointed. I like their Anyways burger--there are many choices (cheeses, jalapenos, grilled onions, bacon, mushrooms, etc) to add to the burger and you can pick up to 3 for $8, includes fries. The burgers have always been cooked to order and it's nice to have different options to add.
We always sit at the bar--about 4 TVs above the bar showing different sports. I don't know if its new or that I've never noticed, but I found that every day is a different drink special and they seem pretty reasonable. Laid back atmosphere. Servers aren't overly enthusiastic but can be friendly. It's kind of what I've become accustomed to here so no surprises when they're abrupt.
Anyway's Pub = Houlihan's, IMO.
The food is okay, but defo overpriced. The drinks are standard as they have a full bar... but I think for the location (in a mostly abandoned strip mall next to a gas station and loan stores) everything is overpriced, but I give them props for trying to class up a pub in this area. I do like the teeny tiny outdoor patio in the summer... for the area, there's not a whole lot else with an outdoor patio so they've cornered that market.
I would most likely be headed here if I weren't in the mood for fast food late at night as they have a late night (till midnight, I believe) menu.
How does a restaurant in Villa Park claim to be Chicago's restaurant & pub? Â Well, this won't be the only question you'll ask yourself. Â Most importantly "Why did I choose to eat here?" accompanied by "Why does this taste like cardboard?" will take up the bulk of your thoughts.
Seriously, the crust of this pizza is stiff without crunch. Â Simply, it really sucks. Â Have you ever accidentally left the cardboard plate underneath the frozen pizza while baking it? Â Save some money and continue to do that if you're ever invited here.
This is the first time I can actually say I didn't mind paying $12 for a hearty pasta dish, waaaay better than something you'd find at a Friday's, or a "Shehaniganz."
Ok, so Mom bought tonight. Â But I would have!
I had the Penne Mozzarella Pasta: Â a HUGE plate of penne pasta with pieces of grilled chicken, italian sausage and fresh mozzarella, all tossed with a tomato cream sauce. Â (Peep my picture for a look). Â Before that, I had the chicken tortilla soup. Â Not a whole lot of chicken, but awesome blend of tomatoes and mexican spices in the soup. Â Plenty zesty, I needed a lot of water!
I hadn't been here in probably over five years, but I definitely won't wait as long next time. Â It's gotten much better since then, so cheers to them.
I try not to come here for lunch or dinner often. I find that there are much better places to go to, but I finally came for lunch again. The food is alright but the service could be much better. The host is really ncie and the waitresses are really nice, but they tend to forget about you. My friend and I sat outside and ordered fajita quesadillas. Just like it sounds, steak, grilled onions and peppers inside a large quesadilla. It could feed two people but we always forget and order one each. Like I said, the food is just OK.
I love coming here on summer nights just to have a few drinks out on the patio. I would have to say the patio is one of their best features.
We went here a few weeks back after attending a wake down the street. Â There was five of us including my sister, brother-in-law and my mom. Â We got seated right away and our server was really nice but just a bit scatter brained. Â We ordered our drinks and the spinach and artichoke dip appetizer first and both of those things came out pretty fast, but that did not set the tone for our meals! Â BTW...the appetizer was pretty good and the chips were homemade, I believe, warm and nicely salted. Â Between us we ordered the Chicken Fajitas, Italian Sub Sandwich of some kind, Chicken Burrito, Chipotle BBQ Chicken Sandwich and I ordered the Seafood Diablo. Â Our food took about 30 minutes to come out, seriously, it might have even been a bit longer than that! Â We finally got it and my sister's burrito had fallen apart and she had to pick at it with a fork just to eat it, my husband's chipotle chx sandwich was average, brother-in-laws sub seemed to be enjoyed, mom pretty much likes any fajitas and my pasta was just okay. Â It was supposed to have chunks of crabmeat and shrimp in a spicy sauce, well the crabmeat was from a can, I would bet money on that, the shrimp were scarce but good and the sauce was not that spicy at all. Â We had been here a few times when we lived in the area and it was never my first choice because I thought it was always just okay, and this time we went, I think will be my last time, because it was just not that good.
**I do know that their bar and patio areas are hangouts for some of the people I went to high school with, so maybe that is a more fun atmosphere than the drab restaurant part, but I have never experienced that...so maybe you should go there for their bar and let me know what you think...**
The food is good, the service is decent, and it's big enough that you can go there with a huge group of people and not overwhelm the place. Anyway's is a great local bar for normal people who aren't looking to see and be seen. It's a nice place to hang out if you're somewhere in the middle between "I'm a pick-up driving rube" and "I am FAR too hip and urban to be seen in the suburbs, let's go to Rainbo instead."
Review Source:Oh gag me with a mother f'ing spoon already.
"Anyways" you are not in Chicago and there is absolutely nothing Chicago about you. You could exist in any strip mall (or 6-lane commerical road) anywhere in suburban America.
It's not classy. Its over-rated.
The service is a major disappointment. (Totally ignored by our waitress and it wasn't busy and there were just the two of us!)
The food is lackluster and overpriced. (Friend couldn't even finish her salad. My sandwich wasn't too special)
The outdoor area is pretty much right on the street. Yes, folks - that would be Roosevelt. How pleasant! (Mmm fumes!)
And no, I am not some irrate customer. I just think this place isn't worth visting.
When I worked in Oak Brook this was my fave lunch spot. The owners here are GREAT. Friendly and so helpful. A great place for groups. Dark, cozy atmosphere or you can eat outside on pretty days.
Spinach dip is excellent - and so are the salads. Not too pricy and there are always sports games on and plenty of parking.
Close to the malls and other Oak Brook attractions (if there are any?) so next time you are out there for a work meeting or shopping spree, stop by Anyways. Delish.
A Chicago-themed bar in the suburbs? Â Perhaps I'm just slightly confused, but what the heck.
We came here for a going away/birthday party last week. Â I didn't get a chance to eat anything other than the cold quesadillas and chicken wings provided for the party. Â
I give it 3 stars for the sole reason that our waitress was really friendly and the Coronas were cheap. Â The birthday girl brought in an ice cream cake and they were nice enough to keep it in the freezer and bring out slices to guests. Â
However, after I enjoyed my one Corona, it was time to switch over to designated driver status. Â The bartender charged me $2 for a Sprite!! Â Are you for real? Â
Food-MEH
Atmosphere-Friendly, laid-back
$2 Soda-No thanks
While I would never use the word "classy," this casual and friendly west suburban restaurant echoes its Chicago roots in it's name --- "Anyway's." Â (I'm not a native, so I laugh when Midwestern sentences begin with that word! ha!) Â Â Nosh, gab, and enjoy the large and varied menu, the unpretentious food, the pleasant atmosphere and the neighborhood-style feel. Â Take the family, go as a couple or meet a crowd for a group gathering. Â Like Chicagoans themselves, this place doesn't pretend to be anything it's not --- but what it does is to deliver quality, quantity and friendly service whatever the season.
Review Source:GREAT outside patio! Fun, laid back but classy bar scene. Pool tables, darts, fireplace and many flat screens occupy the bar side of this restaurant. The appetizers are nothing special, but come here for the burgers, sandwiches & salads...YUM!
Service is great, however, they could use more wait staff on the bar side, for patrons at the tables. A great place to feel warm and cozy in the winter and cool in the summer with the patio.
