This place just annoyed me from the get-go. To begin with it's nestled in the perfect spot to blow past it trying to get to there and resulting in making a few illegal turns to try and get back. I got in and it was karaoke night which seemed cool enough but they don't take cards so hopefully you carry cash or get raped by the off-brand ATM inside. Â Once I finally get my drink I get handed a Soco sour in a little plastic cup, what am I 16 and sneaking into a party? Maybe it was an off night for them but I'd think twice about popping in again
Review Source:The quietest bar in Malden on a weekend, but I'd hardly call it a dive. They're still trying to find their niche. No idea what it might be, but I think they have a few nights with drink specials every week. I wouldn't give up on this place quite yet..but there are certainly better options nearby.
Review Source:That star looks awfully lonely and it wouldn't exist if (a) it weren't the minimum or (b) I didn't inflate for potential.
When the roommates and I leave our Malden manor on foot for a night of local imbibing, Avenue C is, by virtue of being a stone's throw from our residence, the logical first stop. Â It's usually one (drink) and done.
That's not because the alternatives hold great appeal (they don't) but because the bartenders are short on skill and long on scorn for their patrons. Â Maybe they're bitter about having only three customers on a Friday night. Â Hint: Â Filtering said disdain might go a long way toward the cure for what ails ya.
Though we endeavor to bypass Avenue C, thirst continues to -- from time to time -- get the better of us. Â It's never a familiar face behind the bar and I have to believe that the employee turnover rate is pretty fast. Â Where do they hire these clowns? Â It's apparent that there's no experience necessary or even a bartending course prerequisite. Â Don't dare to point out an improper preparation; it'll only earn you a scowl.
The space is promising. Â There are a couple of nice plasma screens, generally tuned to a local major-sports contest or, on an off night, ESPN's SportsCenter. Â There are inviting booths and plush coaches.
That's the end of the positivity. Â I could carry on with the cons but I'll spare y'all and encourage you not to consider Avenue C. Â Or any other Malden bar. Â Va al ciudad, mi hermano.
Why did I go here last night??? Do yourself a favor and don't ever find yourself asking this same question.
Avoid this place at all costs, even if it is the only place still serving at midnight on a Sunday and you're without a car and can't get somewhere better. Go home, call it a night.
