I had previously taken a cooking class with Avenue's Chef Lubatty, so I already knew that he was a wonderful chef and a great guy. The tres leches rum cake recipe he gave us is exceptionally good. We decided to visit his restaurant and walked away thoroughly impressed. The atmosphere here is warm and welcoming. This is a "come on in and have a great time with us" place. Our server was wonderful. She was very personable and knowledgable about the menu and made honest recommendations for us. The food was outstanding. I had the lamb, which was tender and cooked to perfection. There was a subtle amount of semisweet yogurt sauce on the meat, which was a nice complement to the tangier salad that was served with the lamb. Wonderful. My girlfriend had the salmon, which was also very impressive. There were capers on there, but the subtleness again complemented the dish instead of overpowering it. Well done on both fronts. For dessert, it was belgian chocolate cake and chocolate bread pudding with caramel. These were two of the better desserts I have had in Denver. So decadent that you savor every bite and feel a tiny bit of sadness that you've one step closer to finishing it. Perfect. I also have to give Avenue Grill major props for supporting Colorado breweries on their taps. They were unfortunately out of their specially made house amber, but there were two very suitable Great Divide brews on tap to make this omission a minor footnote. I reviewed the other drinks and found that they have a reasonably priced wine menu and the cocktail list was impressive. Avenue Grill is a home run in the categories of ambiance, value, and service.
Review Source:Well, a dear friend was turning 70 (she can pass for 50 damn her) and I offered to take her and another friend to lunch at any place of her choosing. Â She chose Avenue Grill. Â It would not have been my choice but it wasn't my birthday. Â It's OK but that's about it.
The Good: Â Gabriel (consummate server who has served me many, many times), the place - it's bright and clean - white tablecloths and napkins - professionally attired staff - I like the whole vibe. Â They also know how to make a real adult beverage - some of the best martinis in town. Â Gabriel offered to comp a dessert for her birthday but we had a cake waiting - sweet of him though.
The OK: Â When we finally got it, the food was OK but nothing special with the exception of the chicken and spinach pot stickers that were awesome. Â The lady friend and I shared a reuben at the waiter's suggestion. Â Tasty enough but really tiny - literally 3 bites each (fries were lame as was the cole slaw). Â Our other friend had the burger and it was huge and looked delish - should have gone that direction since we were sharing.
The Not So Good: Â Service today was S-L-O-W. Â We arrived at 1:45 p.m. and departed at 3:45 p.m. Â They simply could not get the food out of the kitchen and we were one of three tables at this late lunch hour. Â Seriously, two hours for lunch with a couple of appetizers and a couple of sandwiches? Â Prices at lunch are high. Â We had a round of drinks, Â shared a cup of chowder and the pot stickers for starters, and a reuben and a burger for lunch and it was almost $100. Â Not worth it in my book.
I have eaten here over the years, and never have had a bad experience.
Last  night, we ate here for the 5280 menu. I loved that they had specific dishes marked on menu as being vegetarian, as I am pescatarian. My partner and I split a fabulous bottle of wine, and I had the smoked cheddar and porcini fondue, while she had the chicken and spinach potstickers. We were both very happy with the appetizers. My only (very small) complaint was that I wished that I had gotten a few more veggies or bread pieces, because there weren't enough for all of the fondue, and I hated wasting it.
For dinner, I had the salmon with polenta chunks (the grilled veggies that came with were amazing!), and my partner had the beef sirloin, with mashed potatoes and steamed spinach. Oh yummo... both of us completely cleaned our plates.
For dessert, it was just the perfect portion of an amazing key lime pie.
Perfect. Keep it up, Avenue Grill... we WILL be back.
Every time I visit Denver, I make the Avenue Grill a must stop to eat! The food is so good! I have never had a bad meal there, lunch or dinner, the food is excellent! I have been enjoying their food for over 8 years and the bread pudding is still an all time favorite! The staff is also extremely friendly and pleasant!
Review Source:We went to Ave Grill last night for both the 5280 week and for my birthday dinner. After reading the reviews I was excited to say the least. I had read these good reviews and seen a few bad one and thought to myself, wow those people must be really picky. No way would I have thought it could happen to us........but it did. We got right in; the hostess sat us in a corner table in the back which was great because we didn't have to worry about other customers or servers running around us. It took them 10 minutes just to get water to our table and literally it took our waitress another 10 minutes after that to come and even acknowledge our existence and take a drink order. I believe we were there for 30 minutes before we even got our food order in. Our waitress seemed very cold and appeared to be having a bad day. It is very difficult to hear someone like my father-in-law say he doesn't like someone but he didn't have any problem expressing his dissatisfaction for her. The food was great but nothing put it ahead of a lot of other restaurants who claim to have great food either. If I lived in this neighborhood, I would come back again and hopefully get a server who was more likable however since we don't, I unfortunately will not be returning. On another positive note, the general manager/owner did come to greet us after our meal which was a welcome surprise and asked how we liked it. I'm not one to tell a manager that their service was for lack of a better word horrible but I think she could tell by my mannerisms that I wasn't too thrilled with the experience.
Bottom line, if you live in this neighborhood, give it a try.....they do have great food. If you're trying it based off a recommendation and you don't live near them, there are better restaurants to drop $150 for 4 people.
I went here for a company dinner and they had a preset menu of only a few items which was a bummer for me because there were no vegan options. I told the waiter of my predicament and he was so nice about offering an alternative option. When my meal came I was impressed to see an actual 'meal', not just a salad or a couple raw veggies. They made me some barbecue tempeh and garlicky sauteed spinach. Realistically this food was better than most meals that I have had at exclusively vegan restaurants! I was so pleasantly surprised at what they whipped up for me and that fact that they would go out of their way to do that. I would highly recommend this place not only for the amazing taste of the food but also for the upstanding customer service.
Review Source:Avenue Grill offers an elegant yet relaxed weekend brunch. Â Their signature cocktail, The Hummingbird, is a mild and refreshing blend of St. Germaine, Prosecco and seltzer and is available by the pitcher. Â Or try the $2 Bellinis, made with peach nectar. Â The brunch menu is a diverse blend of breakfast favorites including eggs benedict, crepes, pancakes and a breakfast burrito, in addition to an assortment of salads and sandwiches. Â Enjoy white linen service and a regal dining room overlooking East 17th Street without breaking the bank.
Review Source:Have ate here over the years and hadn't been in lately. Â A friend highly recommended the Monday night special of prime rib, and since I'm a prime rib fan, thought I'd give it a try. Â Called in a to-go order as I didn't have time to wine and dine, and 'Vickie' answered the phone. Â It was around 6:30 and I asked about the prime rib and what it included. Â She was not at all welcoming or friendly and had an attitude, which I didn't appreciate. Â Thought for a moment about canceling my order as I don't like to $upport restaurants that could care less about my business, but since I was hungry, and had been running errands all day, thought otherwise. Â She actually ended the conversation by clicking off w/o saying 'goodbye' or 'see you soon'. Â Am a business owner myself and I make sure that whoever answers the phone is friendly, upbeat, and accommodating. Â She did not fulfill any of these traits, but since everyone has a bad day, figured I'd give her the benefit of the doubt. Â Hopefully, she is not usually like this. Â Went in to get my order at the bar and Chris, the bartender, invited me to sit at the bar w/a friendly smile and wonderful manner and gave me my order nicely packaged w/everything I needed to enjoy my meal.
When I was leaving the owner and mgr were at the front of the house and thanked me for my business. Â I made no mention of Vickie as I wanted to get home quickly and enjoy my meal, which was delicious!
Solid brunch spot with unbeatable drink specials, ex. $2 Mimosas and Bloody Mary's (with a beer chaser). I also enjoyed the excellent service and classic ambiance (wooden bar, white tablecloths). It was not insanely crowded or loud, thank goodness. I had the pastrami reuben with fries. Was it the best reuben ever? No, but it was very tasty and went great with my bloody mary's. The menu seemed to have plenty of veggie and gluten-free options. I deem this a good choice for groups, families, dates, friends, everything!
Review Source:I don't understand why this restaurant is so highly rated. Each time I have gone the food was boring, uninspired and over-priced. Even the classic/standard dishes were bland. The service tends to be slow. The atmosphere is nice but I gave up on this restaurant - there are too many other interesting places to dine in Denver.
Review Source:Avenue Grill has always been the top of our list for consistent excellence. Â There's always a smiling face to greet you when you walk through the door. Â We prefer to eat in the bar area but regardless the service and food is always excellent. Â We've seen staff/servers come and go but regardless they have always been wonderful.
The food is great as well. Â We usually get many different small plates and share. The crowd it attracts seems to be a another great attribute of the this place as well. Â The ambiance is such of an old bar with masculine dark wood and perfect lighting.
All around, this has always been another one of our favorite places to go.
Went here for brunch one Sunday. Â I would have given it an extra half star if that was an option. Great Bloody Marys and good deals on the drinks.
The reason I gave it only three stars was because our service was slow. Also i ordered blueberry pancakes that came with about one blueberry per pancake. Maybe they were running low and had to ration them out?
Either way it was a nice place clean and classy. I would go back here and give it another try maybe dinner. It was just unfortunate that but nothing stood out as amazing with the food.
Really should have a half star button, as I would give this 3.5 stars.
Came here prime dinner hours on a Saturday and the place was dead. There were 5 tables the entire time we were there.
That being said, I think the fish was less than fresh. My husband's ahi tuna was very dark brown colored inside the thick sesame coating, not bright red. Â My grilled lamb came out very well on one side, and medium on the other even though I ordered medium-rare. The meat was tough and a bit bland. The side dish was literally 4 pieces of 3-inch long yucca fries. I was still hungry afterwards.
My dining partners seemed to enjoy their dishes much more- the seafood curry special seemed well made. And the roasted buffalo looked very tender. The service was pretty good, and very old school. I didn't have anything to drink so I can't speak to their martinis.
I think this is a hit-or-miss place and I kinda felt like it was a miss on my night.
Verdict: Hm- I'd give it another shot.
Had dinner here and absolutely loved the food and service. Nice, quiet and sleek interior with outstanding service. My waitress was attentive, but not overly so and was always there just when I needed.
I had a cesar salad for starters, which was very good, but the croutons were a tad too peppery for my taste. The buffalo stroganoff on the other hand was nothing short of incredible. Soft egg noodles covered in a savory sauce with chunks of buffalo and a generous helping of several mushroom varieties topped off with a big dolup of sour cream and a sprinkling of parmasen. It is as good as it sounds.
Nice touch was the fresh baked bread and butter. I'm a big fan of that in any restaurant.
The wine was a tad pricey -- $9 for an average white -- but I could have opted for a house wine during happy hour for half that, so that's more on me.
This would be a regular spot for me if I lived in Denver. I gotta try and make that stroganoff on my own.
When you get a martini, you actually get 2! And they're delicious - and strong! Â Even for happy hour, they serve you the entire excess in the shaker. Â
Our server was very helpful with recommendations and attentive without being overbearing. Â My mom and I split the Spinach Calamari Salad and the Sauteed Chicken Breast. Â They split the plates evenly so we could share them without making a mess - we didn't even ask for that. Â Bonus!
The calamari salad was my favorite. Â It wasn't overly greasy and the dressing was perfect. Â Our chicken entree was a little fried and chewy, but my mom enjoyed it. Â
Avenue Grill is white tablecloth without the attitude. Will definitely be back - especially for their martinis!
Arrived for an early pre-movie sat dinner. Despite emptiness of place bar service unbelievably slow. A draft Sierra Nevada was watery and flat and  a pimms cup based specialty drink overly tart. Waiter bored and disinterested. Food fine- steak, seafood stew among the choices- probably 3star. I've eaten here several times and to be honest it's a crap shoot-pushes 4 stars on a good day- sadly those seem rare...
Review Source:My parents discovered Avenue Grill by accident while they were in town in May, and my mom liked it so much that she took my husband and I here for dinner the next time she came to Denver to visit.
Food:
--Tossed salad: better than most. Â The vinegarette has substance to it and they use a nice combination of mixed greens.
--Potstickers: delicious! Â Seared just right so they're crisp without getting greasy, and served over greens with a yummy soy ginger sauce.
--Thai beef lo mein: you wouldn't expect this to be good at an American restaurant, but I decided to trust the waiter's recommendation. Â Good choice. Â The ribeye steak pieces are grilled perfectly and there's a nice array of vegetables (carrots, mushrooms, onions, not too much celery), with a really yummy spicy peanut sauce.
--Ribeye: my mom had this and loved it. Â She said the rosemary flavor came through really well.
--Slow-roasted buffalo: my husband had this and loved it. Â I had a bite and had to agree. Â The buffalo was so tender you probably could have cut it with a spoon. Â He said the potato salad that came with was a little strange, but the roasted vegetables were great.
--Bread pudding: this contains Jack Daniels and chocolate. Â Enough said.
Drinks:
Good wine list, several local beers, and a really creative cocktail menu. Â I've forgotten the name of what I ordered, but it had Saint Germaine and vodka and was fabulous. Â Plus, they have half-glasses of port as an after dinner drink, perfect for when you want something for dessert but don't want to drink too much.
Atmosphere:
They call themselves a "San Francisco style bar and grill," and this description is pretty accurate. Â The atmosphere is fancy but relaxed, which is nice. Â Our server was helpful and had good recommendations. Â People watching was great, especially since it was Pride Week-- ask for a window table. Â Another perk is a free parking lot across the street.
I would definitely go back!
I just went in for lunch to try the new lunch special. Its a chicken burrito and beer for $6. It was just the right amount and came out quickly. Definately, a welcome quick lunch for people on the go. Try it out!
Oh, the burrito. Its a chicken burrito with a mild green chili on top. Not very spice but descent.
I had wanted to try this place for some time, but living in Parker makes getting here a journey in itself. Â Last evening the stars aligned and we had a chance to stop by. Â The attire is casual, but the place looks formal with the white table cloths and the very attentive wait staff.
Fortunately we arrived at 6:45 and were able to enjoy the last few moments to Happy Hour with a glass of wine, some pot stickers and of course, bread with whipped butter. Â All were very tasty and a great way to begin the evening.
Then we moved on to the main course. Â I was tempted to try the burger, but was persuaded to try the Slow Roasted King Canyon Buffalo, only with mashed potatoes instead of potato salad. Â It was a perfect choice. Â The Cabernet was the perfect wine with this delicious, tender delight.
After dinner, a creme brulee served with a small tuaca finished the evening with a smile.
As I was leaving, I was pondering 4 or 5 stars, and really wanted a 4.5 rating available. Â I'll go with 4 only because the meal was a little on the expensive side. Â But oh, so wonderful tasting.
I was very much looking forward to dining at Avenue Grill, especially after reading all the great reviews - but our experience was incredibly disappointing.
My husband made a reservation for today (Mother's Day) at 4:00 pm - a bit of an early meal, but he chose the time because we would have our 2 year-old with us, and not only needed to feed him early, but also didn't want to disturb others out for a special evening. Â Our table of 4 consisted of me, my husband, our son, and my mother. Â We arrived promptly at 4 and the restaurant was essentially empty - there were maybe 4 or 5 other tables occupied. Â
My chief complaint was incredibly poor quality service. Â We were never given the specials of the day (and I was actually quite disappointed to have heard another server tell a nearby table as we were having our entrees - I would have likely selected one of the specials had I known.) Â Our table was missing 2 placesettings, and we had to ask 3 times until we actually got them. Â We had to chase down our server, who was found twice standing at the bar, chatting with the bartender. Â Glasses sat empty a couple of times. Â It took more than an hour from our arrival until the entrees arrived - and as I mentioned previously, we were in a nearly empty restaurant (the waiter offered a very halfhearted apology for the delay.) Â While I didn't expect a fast dining experience, I would have hoped that by virtue of our reservation time and the fact that we had a small child with us, service would have been much quicker. Â In fact, the whole experience took so long that we ended up choosing to skip dessert (which I had been looking very forward to,) because we knew that it was a matter of time before our son became too fussy (we were nearing 2 hours, all told - no cocktails, no salads, no desserts.)
The quality of the food was inconsistent. Â The chicken and spinach potstickers were extremely salty (and tasted suspiciously like pork sausage,) but the accompanying garlic ginger potsticker sauce was very tasty. Â The chicken tenders (from the children's menu,) were coated in a thick breading that was overcooked but our son seemed to enjoy them nonetheless. Â My mother loved her salmon and said it was cooked well. Â Â My husband's ribeye seemed to have been cooked as ordered, but wasn't the quality that one would expect from a good restaurant - there was very little marbling in the meat and it looked more like a New York strip than a ribeye. Â My pan seared chicken was flavorful, but the chicken itself was extremely dry. Â The polenta that accompanied the salmon and chicken was crispy and yummy. Â The roasted vegetables that came with all three dishes were also inconsistent - parsnip was practically raw but the zucchini was extremely mushy.
I completely understand that there is often a bit of "downtime" before/after rushes - especially on a holiday - but our experience was poor from start to finish. Â What we had hoped to be a great dining experience on a special day turned out to be a complete letdown, and I would be hard pressed to return to Avenue Grill any time in the future.
Though the place could use a remodel, I love this place. The first time we went it was a random restaurant grab. Most of the places in the area were packed and my boyfriend and I were starving. This place didn't have a wait and we liked the feel of it.
Then we saw the menu! Yummy! So many things to choose from that were from all ends of the world. Not to mention the fact that their desserts are all made there (which, as a baker, I love!)
I think we'll have to go there sometime just to have dessert, because the food is wonderful and the portions are filling, which was wonderfully unexpected with how the place comes off. The service is nice and welcoming--even if a little chatty at times.
A great diamond in the rough. So when Steuben's is jam packed--go here, because you wont be dissapointed
Came here during Denver Restaurant Week (5280), and had a wonderful experience.
ATMOSPHERE:
Classy, dimly-lit room that's perfect for a special occasion. Not too loud, but also not too silent. And upscale without coming off as pretentious.
SERVICE:
Very polite, very prompt, and honest about what options on the menu are the best, and what you probably shouldn't order (i.e. the tiramisu). I guess it also helped that our server was extremely attractive.
FOOD:
I was very impressed by the food here, even considering the $22-$26 entre prices. I would definitely recommend the Cioppino, and having moved from San Francisco, I've had some great Cioppinos in the past. (It's a slightly-spicy tomatop-based stew with fish, mussels, and shrimp - normally $22). The fondue appetizer was also delicious (smoky melted cheddar with porcini mushrooms), as were the key lime pie and nut tart.
HAPPY HOUR:
I wasn't here for happy hour, but I was pleasantly surprised to find out they have one M-F 3-7pm & Sat 12-4pm: $3/$4 beer, $4/$5 wine, $5 cocktails.
Also, not that parking is every really that hard to find in this area, but it IS really nice to have a dedicated lot right across the street.
Avenue Grill is all about the service. Â I give the food three stars, the service five - which averages to four. Â As for the food - three stars as the menu doesn't change all that often - but each time I've been the the Grill the food has always been consistent and delicious. Â This is a place you can go and always get good food with great service in a fantastic atmosphere.
I will say that the wine list does need some help, I'll say two stars - not very inventive or interesting - many if not all domestic wines - middle of the road.
I dig Avenue Grill - will return many times and give it my recommendation.
Ambiance smacks of 2007 in a good way. Â Mixed crowd, which is nice. Â Fun place to people watch. Â Caesar salad and chowder are 5 star. Â Love to get a table by the window. Â Great place to meet a friend, date or a romantic rendezvous with your husband...or whatever. Â
Not a chain which is refreshing. Â Grownup bar scene that is not like a hunting ground. Â I'd say rustic swank.
Our group went here for corporate dinner. Â The waiter introduced "Wahoo" which is the special of the day. Â It sounded soooo good listening to it's description but I wasn't too hyped when I took a bite of it. Â I'd say I can cook a better fish than what was on my plate.
For dessert, I had the Tiramisu Roll. Â It was merely okay.
One thing I like is the service. Â Every waiter was helpful and corteous.
Will I come back when I visit Denver again? Â I guess I'll have to give other restaurants in the mile high city a chance.
Whoa. Â Why haven't I heard of this place before? Â
Came for an early dinner on a Saturday night and there was no wait. Â I would definitely make reservations though just in case since this restaurant is located in a pretty popular restaurant area.
The restaurant looks like a old by-the-ocean San Francisco restaurant. Â The menu is a mix of American, Asian, and Seafood entrees. Â Very unique!
Started off with the Oysters Rockefeller. Â Although tasty, I couldn't even taste the oysters! Â Also ordered the fondue. Â The cheese tasted good but was rather flat. Â Felt like it needed another cheese or seasoning to make it really pop.
My entree was pretty amazing though. Â I got the BBQ Thai Tempeh. Â For people who "hate" on tempeh dishes, this was amazing. Â Tasted just like general tso chicken. Â Sweet and sour and crunchy. Â The wasabi mashed potatoes that came with it were also buttery and had just the right amount of wasabi flavoring to make it edible yet slightly hot! Â THIS is how tempeh is made delicious. Â Watercourse Foods take note!
My husband got the Chinese porkchop and licked the plate clean. Â Every flavor was right on the mark. Â
The service was great too! Â The waiter was chill and accommodating and there were constantly 2 other busboys coming around to refill our drinks and clean our table!
Can't believe I haven't read more about this place before. Â I will definitely be back to try more of their dishes!
Finally came here for brunch a few weekends ago, and I was not disappointed. Coffee was good, thoroughly enjoyed my eggs sardou -- as well as the salad garnish, which was surprisingly refreshing with the pineapple -- and looked on with envy (unfortunately had to work afterwards) at the tables around me enjoying their $2 mimosas, bloodys, and bellinis. Yes. TWO DOLLARS.
Oh, and the best part about brunch: no wait!
The uptown area doesn't have very many brunch places that are relatively cheap -- don't get me wrong, I love Steuben's, but their food and drinks can be on the higher end of "affordable" -- so The Avenue is a perfect venue to offer such fare.
Don't be fooled by the upscale appearance and polite waitstaff (both of which are much appreciated)! This is the opposite of a pretentious, overpriced place, but I think most of us young'ns don't even consider The Avenue when searching for some decent brunch. If you are the 99%, you CAN eat here!
Nice place to stop by for a drink...the Loonie was strong and good but a bit pricey (hence the 1 drink). It feels like an old neighborhood spot for steaks and is quite comfy WHEN crowded. With only a small tv in the corner, this is definitely a place to come catch up with friends.
Have been for brunch a few times and have the buckwheat crepes with side salad every time. This plate is so delicious that I can not deviate from ordering for fear that I'll regret my decision. Oh, and $2 for a bellini, bloody or mimosa to help wash it all down!
Other things to look forward to - a good "cocktail hour" menu ($5 martini) AND just saw they have a late night menu everyday (9 to close) with a bunch of CHEAP items.
Avenue Grill is one of those "oldie but goody" sorts of spots. Â Like Strings, it's been around for awhile but is often overlooked in favor of newer restaurants.
In particular, Avenue Grill is a good place for a classy, yet inexpensive brunch. Â Mimosas, bellinis, and bloodies (served with a PBR sidecar) are $2 each, so you don't have to break the bank or go bottomless. Â Brunch entrees are reasonably priced as well and their benedict was shockingly delicious! Â I went for the eggs sardou. Â I was a bit reluctant at first as the description made this dish sound incredibly heavy....creamed spinach AND hollandaise? Â Lipitor, anyone?
The result was actually not as heavy as the description implied, and very good. Â The English muffin the eggs sat atop was sliced very thin so there wasn't an overwhelming amount of bread in every bite. Â The egg yolks were perfectly runny. Â The spinach was not overly rich and creamy. Â It was served with a side of nicely dressed greens to balance out the overall gluttony.
Our brunch server was very stressed though. Â We were part of a very large group (two tables worth) and people were shifting around and throwing back mimosas like it was their last brunch ever. Â He did his best though and drinks and food came out as quickly as could be expected given the circumstances.
Worth noting is their very classy cocktail list. Â While we didn't peruse this given there were $2 brunch drink specials, I sampled some at dinner about a year ago. Â They're all expertly crafted and use a lot of local spirits.
This place is often passed by, but I think it's a great spot for brunch or cocktails as well as a Denver institution.
The service is polished, the interior reminds me of an upper scale San Francisco cafe, with white crisp cotton table cloths.
We were in a burger mood for lunch and to my shock , this might be the best burger in Denver. The meat is ground chuck and sirloin. Its not slathered in sauce, or muddied by cheese or bacon or muck. Nor should it be! The meat was flavorful and broiled to perfection, served with hand cut real potato fries. Yum
I deducted one star because they were out of a main lunch item by 12:45. That shouldn't happen.
Had a great experience here after the Taste of Colorado yesterday!
We sat at the end of the bar, and were greeted by the nicest bartender, Mike. Not only was he super friendly, but was perfectly attentive, offered his opinions about food and drinks (which he was 100% on point,) and was just overall awesome to talk to.
We had their happy hour drink, I can't remember the name-- sorry. It was so tasty, though and at $3, just all around perfect. It was happy hour all night, too! Who does that?? Avenue Grill was last night...
For food we ordered:
1/2 dozen oysters...really tasty, not too much sea taste..
Beef Carpaccio- my first time, but my partner in crime insisted, and wow...AMAZING!!
Risotto Cakes- garnished with mango and sooo brilliant
Fried Prawns- huge prawns fried perfectly with a great sauce
Overall, I thought the experience was perfection. (Although it didn't hurt that I was on a date with the most wonderful man.)
I can't wait to return.
Oh, on previous visits I have had their fries....really? Yep. Just a basket of fries. And they are worth it. Trust me.
Made a reservation here for a weeknight dinner with a very special date. Â It seemed like a nice place, it was in the 'hood and seemingly recommended here by you Yelpers so I went for it.
Maybe it was a bad night, but I walked out very disappointed all around. Â The food was meh. Â A fly actually flew into my date's entree and did a little dance, then decided it was going to die on the plate. Â My entree was decent, but i really expected better. Â
The server seemed a little nervous and had a lot of trouble opening the wine. Â I was about to take the bottle out of her hands and open it myself.
All in all, I'd give the place another chance, but I'm skeptical.
The very best turkey-avocado-bacon-tomato wrap that's ever graced my unrefined palate...four sections filled with large chunks of avocado (I find them useless in any other capacity, except guacamole), crisp bacon, turkey and fresh tomato. HEAVEN. Truly, it was one of the best things I've eaten in a long time...and so unexpected. It was nearly a week ago, and I'm still having fond memories...
A somewhat fancy spot, but lacking pretense. White tablecloths do not always indicate snobbery, and this place has hit the mark with upscale decor and down to earth offerings/service.
Definitely worth a stop in...a great place to take the parents (if they want something "nice"), or for any occasion...
Mmmm. Maybe they'll ship me a few of those wraps.
Everything about this place is fancy-pants, but in a non-snotty way. If that even makes sense. The tables are covered in white clothes, the waiters must have been sent to charm school and the seating is arranged close enough to be cozy, but not so that you can hear all your neighbors' conversations.
The food is really delish. I actually sat secretly in food envy for most of the meal eying Colleen C's turkey wrap. Mostly because of the giant pieces of avocado filling it. I might be a slight avocado ho. I had a avenue burger because I had heard they were so good and the rumors were true. It was juicy and giant, just like I like my burgers. And the fries that accompanied it were extra crispy on the outside, but soft and moist on the inside. It was like magic. I'll definitely go back though to try out some more of the stuff that I thought sounded yumtastic.
