I am from Chicago. I grew up there and lived there after college for a few years. This is the closest thing I have been able to find to a real Chicago dog and Italian Beef.
I by close I mean its better than some places I have had in Chicago. Its not the best, but its damn good! The Chicago dog is the traditional Vienna Beef dog with all the proper fixins (including that awesome nuclear green relish). NO KETCHUP! The Italian beef is super meaty and juicy..yeah the bun is gonna get soaked and thats the best part. If my hands arent messy after one then it wasnt good.
The setup is pretty similar to most hot dog stands you would find in Chicago. Vienna Beef advertisements, simple but comfortable seating, and sports memorabilia. The service is very friendly and they are even open late..so its a great post bar snack spot.
ok I am really hungry now...
I really enjoy the effort behind both of the mile High Vienna stands. The person working the counter is always nice at both locations and the inside brings me back to Chicago. I think they do a good job with the food but I do have a problem with the frozen Italian Beef while good its not great and Italian Beef is easy to do homemade (and cheaper) I also wish they had Vienna dogs with natural casing, I love the snap of a good Vienna dog all the toppings are spot on down to the bright green relish, sport peppers and celery salt.
Review Source:Do you like your Italian beef straight from a Vienna Beef package that's been shipped in and microwaved? Â Then this is your place!
What an embarrassment. Â I walked in here expecting something good and left being $10 lighter and disappointed. Â Beef isn't that hard to make--you don't have to ship it in, but that's what this place does.
Don't waste your time, appetite or money here. Â At least the service was good.
