I am from Chicago. I grew up there and lived there after college for a few years. This is the closest thing I have been able to find to a real Chicago dog and Italian Beef.

I by close I mean its better than some places I have had in Chicago. Its not the best, but its damn good! The Chicago dog is the traditional Vienna Beef dog with all the proper fixins (including that awesome nuclear green relish). NO KETCHUP! The Italian beef is super meaty and juicy..yeah the bun is gonna get soaked and thats the best part. If my hands arent messy after one then it wasnt good.

The setup is pretty similar to most hot dog stands you would find in Chicago. Vienna Beef advertisements, simple but comfortable seating, and sports memorabilia. The service is very friendly and they are even open late..so its a great post bar snack spot.

ok I am really hungry now...

I really enjoy the effort behind both of the mile High Vienna stands. The person working the counter is always nice at both locations and the inside brings me back to Chicago. I think they do a good job with the food but I do have a problem with the frozen Italian Beef while good its not great and Italian Beef is easy to do homemade (and cheaper) I also wish they had Vienna dogs with natural casing, I love the snap of a good Vienna dog all the toppings are spot on down to the bright green relish, sport peppers and celery salt.

Do you like your Italian beef straight from a Vienna Beef package that's been shipped in and microwaved?  Then this is your place!

What an embarrassment.  I walked in here expecting something good and left being $10 lighter and disappointed.  Beef isn't that hard to make--you don't have to ship it in, but that's what this place does.

Don't waste your time, appetite or money here.  At least the service was good.

Soooo good! My family is from Chicago and moved to the East Coast. For 20 years I've listened to my mother complain about how only in Chicago can you get a good hot dog and/or an Italian beef sandwich. Whenever we visit our Windy City family we have to stop at my parents fav Vienna hot dog stand.  And they have a point. Chicago dogs and Italian beefs are good. Mile High Vienna, tho, is just as good.

I give 'em a 4 star instead of 5 stars because I think the fries could be better if they were fresh cut (like the fries at my parents' fav Chicago spot).

This wasn't my kind of hot dog. I had the Italian dog and the bun was soggy on the outside and hard as a rock on the inside- simply, it wasn't fresh. I tried the hot peppers on top which I have never had and maybe I didn't know what I was getting into, but cold, slimy peppers and olives are not my thing. The dog was dry and greasy too.
The fries were fresh and yummy, I should have maybe upgraded to some chili cheese fries in retrospect.
The place looks a little scary from the outside but was really clean on the inside.

Awesome people watching location. Small dining room, but not usually packed and plenty of outdoor seating. Scrumptious and reasonably priced. Chili dogs were well built -- not too messy.

We came for the box of six Chicago dogs, fries, and three water bottles for $20 to take into the Rockies' game. Such a great idea. The dogs get a little soggy during the walk to the stadium, but are such a tasty deal that I plan to make a stop at Mile High Vienna Stand before each game and may even make a detour there next time I am in the neighborhood. The fries are no good when cold, but I'm ok with that because the hot dogs are solid.

As many places around Denver that claim to serve a real Chicago Hotdog. Some people just serve a normal hot dog with the "right" fixings, some places get it in the general area, and some places knock it out of the park. I would put Mile High Vienna somewhere between the latter two. It's a great dog and it's even better because you can grab it on the way to your ballgame.

They have many different varieties of hot dogs and you can even put Ketchup on your hot dogs in spite of the Chicago Dog purists. A dog, fries and a drink (all of which can be taken to-go into Coors Field) will cost $5 and will be a damn sight better than any concession hot dog once you get to the ballgame. The happy hour deal is unbeatable too.

I highly recommend going there the next time you're in LoDo.

I really do love a good Chicago Style Hot Dog.  It is quite the elusive creature here in the Mile High City.  However, Mile High Vienna Stand gets it right.  I like green tomatoes on my Chicago dog, but other than that, this is dead nuts on what it should be.  The fact that they have Italian Beef on the menu tells you the guy who owns this place is likely from Chicago.  The staff didn't get why you aren't supposed to put ketchup on a Chicago dog, but I guess that is just a windy city thing.  Other than that, the staff was great.  Super friendly and patient, even on a busy game day (this place in a block from Coors Field).  The prices are very fair, and I have not had a bad thing on the menu!  Try it!

This is just about as good as it gets for me. Mile High is 10 blocks south of my front door which means I can get there on my scooter in under 4 minutes if the lights are rolling in my favor.

To me, this is what a hotdog should be. Cheap, fast and delicious. I can get 2 Chicago style dogs with a clip of HOT AND CRISPY fries and a drink for $7. I can also watch the baseball game on the TV and hear the crowd in the background. Not that I care so much for baseball but it is a cool perk.

I love the staff here. The owner is beyond awesome, the food prep guys and gals are really nice and now that they know me, they'll let me sit and eat my dog even if they are closing in 5 minutes.

Another awesome thing? Hotdog Happy Hour. That's right, the triple H. You can get a dog and fries for 2.50. That is just ridiculous.

5 stars for the service & the food.  I love the "chicago hotdog" special which is between 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm, this special comes with tasty french fries for a very reasonable price.  Now that baseball season is here, this is the place to be before the game.  Yes you can bring your 10-pack hotdogs to the game.

Love the Chicago Dog!  Here are a couple of things to do when Spring finally rolls around:  Grab a couple of these and head over to the Whiskey Bar for a good beer and a dog, a few blocks away, or better yet take them to the ballpark to see the Rockies!  So looking forward to Springtime!!

What I had?  South Side Polish Sausage (Vienna Beef Polish Sausage on a steamed poppy seed bun, Spicy Mustard, Sauerkraut, sports peppers and celery salt) with cheesy fries

Food review:  So, I don't get it.  Is a "Chicago style dog" all about the toppings and not a tasty sausage because that's what I've been getting lately.  Billy's Gourmet was the same way.  Lots of "tasty" toppings with a pretty bland sausage.  I myself tend to like a tasty sausage and the toppings "enhance" or "balance" the flavor of the sausage.  The fries certainly did not help the cause.  One of the worst fries I've had in a while with somewhat "skunky" cheese on top.

    Service? No complaints

Other thoughts:  I had the regular hot dog at a Yelp event today and it was a little bit tastier than their polish sausage.  Perhaps I just got the wrong thing.  Maybe I'll have to stop in here again to try the Italian sausage but if it's anything like Billy's Gourmet's Italian sausage, I'm not too optimistic about it.  If you're not a big sausage fan, you should take my review with a grain of salt.  Polish sausages are one of my favorite sausages around and when it gets messed up, I kind of get upset.  :-)

4 star hot dogs are tasty! Italian beef sandwiches 3 stars because it's hit or miss depending whose cooking it? 2 stars for this location bcuz it's off the beaten path, but totally accessible for the baseball field. Which reminds me, 5 stars for this place during baseball season, they offer a 10 pack of hot dogs to bring into the field, affordable! 2 stars for their hours of operation. 5 star for service.

I went here around 1 p.m. with a voucher from WeeklyPlus and had an A-OK time. I think their prices are very reasonable--even without a voucher. I ordered their #6--two Chicago dogs with fries and a drink, normally about $7--and my boyfriend ordered their dog/shaved beef combo, priced just a little higher.

Gotta love Cherry Coke on tap and their skinny fries. Overall, their dogs were everything you'd expect from a place marketing Chicago-style: unnaturally green relish, peppers, etc. I guess I want chunkier, fresher tomatoes, a more natural relish, a stronger bun and a bigger dog. I'd go back because this would be a perfect place to go before a baseball game; I can imagine the energy and people watching would be entertainment enough.

GROUPON / LIVING SOCIAL VOUCHER HOLDERS ---  BEWARE----  I went to the Mile High Vienna Stand (the one at 1312 21st street in LODO) today with a voucher. I ordered and the guy at the register only deducted $9.25 (rather than $10 - voucher price) from my bill. He stated that he did this to account for "taxes required on the full purchase price." The full purchase price was $11.60. On the receipt he then charged full tax of $.94. When I brought this to his attention, he got very defensive stating that Living Social requires taxing on the full amount and there was no way of being able to charge the full tax and this deduction of $.75 from the voucher value was "his way" of being able to do that. He snottily said "It's only 75 cents, but if you want it, I'll give it to you." At the time, I hadn't been able to study the receipt fully so I just accepted his response as truth. As I was eating, I was able to study the receipt more and realized that not only did he charge tax (8.1%) on the full amount, but he additionally, by deducting only  $9.25 instead of $10 (the voucher price) and pocketed the extra 75 cents. I then went back to explain what I had found and he just opened the cash register and dropped 3 quarters on the counter. I know this is only 75 cents, but it's the principal of it all.

The place is also very small with only a few tables, so if you don't mind sitting at a counter or taking your food to go -- anyway, I don't think I'll be going back.

Ordered a Jr roast beef dipped in sauce. Just like a Chicago restaurant. Seating is quaint. Fries are delicious. They have a happy hour as well for a Chicago dog.

I came here for the second time today after buying a $5-for-10 Groupon Now! coupon this morning.  Let me tell you that it might have been the best $5 I ever spent.  They offer this deal constantly, and for less that $5 I ate the Jr. Italian Beef Sandwich+Chicago Dog+Clip of Fries combo and finished it off with a tall bottle of Fanta orange soda (also less than $10 normally priced).

The beef sandwich was AMAZING.  Picture 5" of a soft, fresh roll stuffed with thinly sliced, shredded, and marinated italian beef with sauteed hot or sweet peppers and onions dipped completely in a delicious aujus which seeps into the bread for a smushy, flavorful taste with every bite.

The Chicago dogs are on point, and offer a great combo of flavors with every snappy bite.  The dog has a nice crunch and flavor, and the ingredients are FRESH.  The fries are made-to-order, so they come out hot, perfectly crispy, lightly salted, and glisten in the light that shines in the big bay window in the front of the restaurant.

The decor is sporty, they had some nice holiday music playing, and the big flat-screen on the wall was tuned to ESPN, plus the tables were clean and staff was friendly.  I'll be returning again for another Italian beef sandwich, and the $2.50 hot dog happy hr (dog+ fries)!

I live close by and visit this place at least once a month.  I'm a food snob, but every now and then, I just like a good ol' sloppy chili cheese dog.  This is the place for the sloppy chili cheese dog.  The Chicago dogs are also done very well.  As someone mentioned, the dogs have a perfect *snap* to the bite.

The fries are good and simple, I get mine with the oh-so-artificial cheese sauce, and it makes this guilty pleasure more guilty and more pleasurable.

The staff is very friendly and are careful to make sure your order is exactly right.  I've never had a bad meal here.

The food itself is five stars, not for being a gourmet fancy spectacular fussy meal, but delivering (sometimes over-delivering) on exactly what you expect your meal to be.

The only reason I don't give my full rating five stars is because they don't exactly stick to their posted business hours.  I've been there three times in the last six months when they were closed that they were supposed to be open. Now I call before I start walking over there.

AS for a previous reviewer complaining about no veggie options: Are you out of your mind???  IT'S A HOT DOG JOINT.  That's like going to a steakhouse and complaining that they don't have any sushi.  Jeez.

This place is an amazingly good deal, especially if you get in here during their hot dog happy hour.  You can get a couple of fully loaded hot dogs for a few dollars and they are amazing.  They also make french fries fresh for you, so they haven't been sitting around under a heat lamp for who knows how long.

The staff was also super helpful in recommending a couple of other places for us to hit up for drinks and dinner later in the evening. We ended up coming back three times in three day for hot dogs due to the amazing deal and the super nice staff.

    I highly recommend this place.

I'm a creature of habit.....chili dog, no onions, lots of cheese please!  And those skinny fries - salty and crispy heaven!  Must visit soon.  I've tried a bite of the italian beef and italian sausage - both delicious - but the i love the snap of a good hot dog.  Prices are right and it's right next to Coors Field.

Well Mustard's is good, but I gotta give the edge to MHVS. Great selection of combo meals that range from $4.25 and up, all including fries and drink. I'd have to say that aside from your usual dog my favorites tend to be the polish sausage and the italian beef. If you don't like hotdogs, get the italian beef, it is surprisingly very very good. Great deals before rockies games and they let you take the food into the stadium. I usually stop in for a $4.50 lunch but the pickup window till 3 am is also something I've been known to utilize.

I don't know about the hot dogs, but the italian beef sandwich with sweet peppers was absolutely delicious.  It's outta control good.  I was a happy camper eating that sucker at the Rockies game.  The fries were fresh and crispy as well.

Top notch work Mile High Vienna Stand, top notch.  This place is now on my Rockies game meal list.  You really put in-stadium food to shame.

    I like it.

You say you want a real Chicago dog? I say go to Mile High Vienna Stand.

You say you want a real Italian Beef sandwich? I say go to Mile High Vienna Stand.

You say you want an Italian Sausage? Again, I say go to Mile High Vienna Stand.

The Italian Beef is full of meat so tender and juicy that it literally drips from the sandwich. Luckily they wrap it in paper then foil to keep the mess as minimal as possible. Hint: Eat it like a burrito.

In case you don't know, a Chicago dog comes on a poppy seed bun with mustard onion, relish, sports peppers (which are hot), a tomato wedge, celery salt, and a pickle spear. Also in case you didn't know I spent my freshman year of high school living in a suburb of Chicago where I picked up a taste for this goodness and I'm glad to have a spot to fulfill that craving.

When Nick and I showed up here we also order some fries to share and they were made fresh then and there. That, in a word, is awesome. You can get this stuff and take it into Coors Field before games, too - another bonus.

I must admit I was a bit well, it was 3 in the morning when I visited...or some hour close to that.  I used to live in Chicago.  I dream of Chicago hot dogs, so when we stumbled (figuratively, I don't want to piss off John) upon this place, I was not only happy but super stoked.

So, I ordered the Chicago dog, my wife ordered the Italian Beef sandwhich. (she should have gotten it dipped or with giardiniera) The dog was very good, (nice snap to it, condiments were good) although I don't recall there being atomic green relish.  I could be wrong here though as it was late.  The Italian Beef was seasoned well, but dry-ish.  The lack of getting it dipped or with giardiniera for the Mrs. may have been a mistake.  Solid, but not the best.

Prices are decent here and the food's good.  If you want a taste of Chicago, check this joint out.

Now that the psycho is gone, I tried their Chicago dog late one night and all I can say is thank God Biker Jim's is a block away. The low price point reflects the rubbery product. Not a fan :(

As a native of Chicago, I must say their Chicago dog isn't close.  An extra star for longer hours on the weekend and cheap-o pricing.

I just thought I'd update the review as I think it's pretty unfair that due to two people who had issues with the place the rating for the place is hovering at a 3.5 and that is not a true reflection of the restaurant, its operators, or the staff.

I've already addressed Tres B in a previous review so I won't rehash that again.

However, I feel that I have to respond to the person who initially reviewed this place as the first reviewer.

Really? A place uses "plastic" cheese (BTW that is usually how the fries are served in Chicago) just like the ballpark? What were you expecting? Something imported from Boulder? And as for Vegetarian options - really? You would go to an All-Beef hot dog store and expect them to carry Vegetarian options? Even if these perceptions were accurate they're really not accurate to rate the place a "1".  According to Yelp a "1" is reserved for "Eeek! Me thinks not." If your world was shattered because of cheese and lack of vegetarian options and you think this is a valid reason to rank a place "1" I would ask you to re-evaluate how you evaluate.  Your expectations, IMHO, seem a bit eschewed. Perhaps you would be better served with an overpriced Tofu dog at the ballpark (if there even is such a thing.)

Sorry, but biased reviews really piss me off. Sure everyone has a bias but perhaps you should have gave the place 2-3 stars.

(No, I do not work here - no I was not paid to write this - but I am teed off that two incidents have cause the rating of the place to drop to 3.5 - not an accurate rating for this location. Even more teed off that one incident was supposedly corrected by management and yet the person doesn't have the balls to come back on here and re-review the place. Never coming back? Fine, but re-review based on the response from management. Ok, I think I'm done.)

2nd time I've been here...it's so clean and the people are friendly! Oh, and the food's good, too...

I had the Italian Sausage Sandwich today: the sausage, of course, was very good, but I was totally amazed by how fresh and tasty the roll was, and the grilled onions and peppers where delicious. I got a pickle as well, which was huge and crisp and full of flavor. A perfect lunch.

YES!!! So stoked that I don't have to drive to Santa Fe n 2nd anymore. Best chili cheese dogs ever. The Italian Beef is so good too. The fries remind me of McD's fries before they made them suck. Highly recommend.

Folks, MHVS is as good as it gets (in Denver, at least) for your Chicago food fix.  Italian Beefs, Chicago style dogs (run it through the garden!), chili dogs, italian sausage, and yes, the gut bomb known as the combo.  That's an Italian sausage nestled in with Italian beef to all of you that think Chicago is "The Windy City" because it's always windy there.

This was my first visit to the Lodo location, and I can tell  you, I love it.  The location is killer!  Food is as good as it is at the original location.  They do beefs right:  Thinly sliced beef warmed in gravy and served on a Gonnella roll.  Gonnella, pretty much the only roll that can take Italian Beef and deliver it properly to your gullet.  Get your sandwich dipped.  You won't regret it.

What about the fries you ask? Yes, what ABOUT the fries.  Perfect.  Hot, crispy, salty.  I'll even go one step further and throw huge compliments to the employees that were working that evening.  When I came in, the place was empty and I could see fries sitting under the lights in the bagging area.  The second I ordered fries, the lady tossed those old fries out and dropped a fresh batch just for me.  Cooked to order French Fries RULE MY WORLD!

Now, if only they had pizza puffs...

Mile High Vienna Stand is a relatively new addition to the Ballpark neighborhood and has quickly become one of my favorite spots to grab a quick bite to eat. The green chili cheese fries are hands down my favorite thing on the menu. The chili has a good kick to it that is balanced well by the melted cheese. (And as another reviewer commented, they do use nacho cheese on them, but I still think they are fantastic.) I have tried a few of the different hot dog and sausage options and have yet to be disappointed. My one complaint here would be that most of options on the menu don't exactly fit into the super healthy category. The addition of a veggie burger or chicken sandwich would really help round out the menu. I hope that Mile High Vienna Stand catches on in the neighborhood because I would be sad to see it go.

This place is next to the ballpark, and the ballpark has better food!  I will admit I am a little biased because I don't like any place that won't carry even one vegetarian option.  How hard is it to stock some tofu dogs guys?  Not very.  So, the one thing I could eat were the fries.  I ordered the green chile cheese fries.  Sounds awesome right?  The green chile was good, the fries were so-so, but the cheese?  I kid you not, they are using the same plastic-y cheese used for nachos at Coors Field.  Are they getting this for free or something?  It was disgusting! I think there should be a warning on the menu!
