Let me start with the positives and then the negatives:
Positives: the food was pretty delicious! I am always weary to try something new-ish and I enjoyed most of it. My boyfriend ordered the veggie platter and most of it was good. I ordered the fish and rice. The rice was really great with the vegetarian sauce. Our appetizers were good too. Our server was sweet and very friendly.
Negative: we got there at 6:30 and it took a full hour and a half to get our dinner. We got a free dessert with our meal and we didn't want to stay for another 45 minutes so we got our bill and left without it. It took over 2 hours for us to get out of there. It seemed like an issue of understaffing and miscommunication in the kitchen.
I enjoyed most of what we ordered but I do not think we'll be back because it takes forever--for a Monday night that was ridiculous.
As a relative newcomer to Ethiopian cuisine, I'm game to try out new places. Â I snapped up a Groupon and away we went to Axum. Â I had high expectations.
The restaurant is open and bright, both by way of lighting and the paint colors on the walls. Â A few pieces of Ethiopian art are dispersed around the room but the majority of the decor is Americanized (or the result of a liquidized Chinese restaurant, depending upon who you ask). Â You won't find any traditional round basket tables here. Â The seating is square tables topped with layered tablecloths. Â There is also a large bar and an enormous TV that was tuned to a basketball game while we were there.
We were surprised and encouraged by the number of people in the restaurant on a Monday evening. Â There were about 10 to 12 tables while we were there. Â Of course, there was only one person waiting on all of the tables. Â She was lovely and kind but, not surprisingly, the service was extremely slow. Â It took an eternity to get our drinks. Â They might have gotten two rounds out of us but we didn't have that long to hang around.
Our discount deal was for two appetizers, two entrees and a dessert. Â We chose the sambusa (pastry shell filled with lentils, onions and jalapenos) and the azifa (lentil salad seasoned with horseradish and jalapenos) for our appetizers. Â The sambusa arrived burned. Â I would have sent it back but knew it would take too long to get a replacement. Â The not burned parts were not bad. Â The two accompanying sauces were sweet and sweet and hot but nothing exciting. Â I can only say one thing about the azifa: horseradish. Â Well, at least I tried it.
We opted for a couple of meat and veggie combos as our entrees. Â I was disappointed that not every meat dish is an option in the combination plate, including my favorite, zilzil tibs. Â We both ordered doro tibs (boneless, skinless chicken in sauce) and key wot (stewed beef) for our meats and we both had the atakilit wot (cabbage and carrots) as one of our three veggie choices. Â My other veggies were kik alicha (split yellow peas) and carrot and fesolia (I assume fesolia means "green beans"). Â Mr. P. had the gomen wot (chopped collard greens) and shiro (chick peas).
The verdict? Â Bland. Â Tasteless. Â Everything. Â Even the injera lacked the customary sourish flavor. Â Just as the decor has been Americanized, I'm afraid the food has been, too. Â Disappointing. Â Unsatisfying. Â Sad.
Oh, did I mention our dessert options? Â Cheesecake or baklava. Â The end.
I am not one to usually complain, but this was RIDICULOUS!!! While the food was really good, the service was absolutely horrible. We were seated immediately since we made reservations. We were there for an hour before receiving our food and the waitress brought our main dish. She forgot our appetizers. I asked about our appetizers and she said she forgot and went and got them. She did give us free wine because of the mistake, but we were there another hour by the time we ate and were waiting for the check. We waited 30 minutes for the check and we finally walked out without the check. I left $5 on the table to cover tax. We were there a total of TWO HOURS and did not even receive the check.
Review Source:I LOVE this place, not only because of the uniqueness and quality of food, but because the waitstaff is gracious and friendly and efficient. Â A "shout out" to Meaza, my favorite Axum waitress! Â She held down the fort last night all by herself and it was really busy for a Tuesday. Â She did an excellent job, all with a HUGE SMILE! Â I recommend trying the combination plates, if you haven't dined here before, to get a sampling of their staple dishes. Â Everything is colorful and fresh and filling. Â If you are a coffee drinker, try their Ethiopian coffee....they come out with the beans roasting and it is a smell that will make even a non-coffee drinker want some!! Â Oh, and you get a bowl of super-fresh-just-popped-popcorn with your coffee! Â I would recommend Axum for parties and for couples, but be aware that it can get a bit loud if the house is full. Â They have published several Groupons so, take advantage of the great deal!! Â You won't be disappointed!
Review Source:I remember a time when there was only one Ethiopian restaurant in Denver, no it seems we have wide selection. I've seen this place any number of times but didn't go until a young friend suggested it. There were four of us and we ordered two combination plates for a total of 4 meat and 6 vegetarian dishes. The very friendly server made several suggestions. We got a good mixe of beef, lamb, and chicken and a wide range of vegetables. Everything was, to my taste, excellent.
While sometimes service is suppose to be slow we didn't experience that at all. There were only 2 people taking care of the room. It was slow when we arrived at 6:30 but quickly filled up. I didn't see anyone waiting all that long for their meal.
I want to take my son back there soon to try some of the more adventurous items my friends didn't want; like Beef Tripe and Tongue cooked with ginger and Lamb Tripe. I love this kind of ethnic food and it's the first time I've seen some of these items on a menu in Denver.
Ethiopian food is fun. Â If you are looking for a great excuse to eat food that your suppose to eat with a fork with your hands, then try some Ethiopian food. Â In Ethiopian cuisine one uses a flat bread called injera to scoop up the curried, meaty goodness spread over the injera bread. Â I've only tried this cuisine three times, so not an expert, but I understand the Axum to be one of the better ones. Â Had some really crispy sambusa that made the vege lentils rock and I really just enjoy the experience of eating something exotic in a very different way. Â I happen to think the spices are pretty good and it really gives me a craving for the chickens, beef, and lamb. Â In fact, not sure i like lamb any other way. Â
Service was kind of slow and for lunch it was fairly dead, but the server was very helpful and kind.
This is my favorite restaurant in Denver. I love their late hours and the price for the amount of food you get is unreal. I get the vegetarian combo every time and I am never disappointed. The servers are always very sweet and the atmosphere is laid back. I feel like it is one of my best kept secret restaurants in Denver but I had to share the love via Yelp because it is seriously that good.
Review Source:I have frequented Axum over a half a dozen times the past couple of years. Â The service is always prompt, friendly, consistent and the food fabulous! I think I have probably tried at least 80% of what is on their menu and time after time it's excellent!
I highly recommend Axum for your Ethiopian experience.
This was my first time having Ethiopian food. Â We had wonderful service, but there was only one other couple dining at the same time. Â The server answered all of my questions and helped point me in the direction of some less spicy menu items. Â I thought the food was great. and also a great value. Â You get a ton of food for your money. Â There's nothing really special about the atmosphere, but I didn't mind. Â If I"m in the mood for Ethiopian again, I'll be sure to go back.
Review Source:Friend and I came here with a deal and we ended up with SO MUCH FOOD. definitely try out the combinations. We opted for a meat combo and a veggie combo. I think the best thing I ate was the Kitfo!.. and maybe the chicken drumsticks. and the lentils. Yeah, basically I liked all of it. They give you injera to eat with the food and it can fill you up FAST.
Ended up stuffed but had to get dessert and chose the baklava. It was a little on the sweet(er) side but everything else was spot on!
The food itself was good, but the service was slow and it was a little disconcerting to see young children (presumably relatives of the waitstaff) wandering in and out of the kitchen. We visited with a http://Restaurant.com certificate and split two combos (one meat; one vegetarian). We enjoyed well-seasoned lentils, split yellow peas, chickpeas, and steamed cabbage among other entrees. We also enjoyed the lamb stew and shredded beef. Again, the food was good, but I wouldn't necessarily visit again.
Review Source:I love this place. The food is delicious and it doesn't matter how many of us are there, we usually average out at $10 each (not including alcohol). Veggie and meat combos are awesome and the tibs, amazing. Service is always friendly and helpful with menu choices. Just get your butt over there and enjoy!
Review Source:We went on a double date with a groupon my friend purchased for dinner for 4. It wound up being a great deal. 4 appetizers, entrees, 2 desserts for $40. They paid for that and we paid for the drinks. Â I'll start with the drinks. I read the reviews before we went since none of us had ever had Ethiopian before and noted several comments about the honey wine. I almost bought a carafe but thought we better try it first. Wow. It's very sweet. Too sweet for us. Not that we didn't like it, we just thought a carafe would be a bit much. They do have a nice variety of Ethiopian beers that I enjoyed. They also have domestic beers and wines.
So we all perused the menu having no idea where to start but then we realized in the back of 1 menu there was a glossary that we found quite helpful. Â We each chose an appetizer and all shared. I honestly can't tell you what we had but we all enjoyed it and that gave us hope for our dinner.
I ordered the meat and veggie combo and a friend ordered the meat combo. I was surprised this was part of the groupon and happy it was because I wanted to try as much as I could. My hubs had a dish that reminded me of fajita meat and peppers. My other friend had a chicken dish. I can't begin to tell you exactly what the dishes were called but I can tell you this, it was wonderful. Such flavors in every bite. American food is so bland compared to this, it's a shame to be honest. There are such wonderful spices and seasonings in this world and we neglect them completely it seems. We loved eating with our hands and getting messy. If you go with friends, go with good friends! And be prepared to take your time. I think we , were there for nearly 3 hours. The restaurant was full and there was only 1 waitress, poor thing. Â
I look forward to eating here again in the future. It was a lot of fun!
The Dude and I made it into Axum on a Google Deal. Â Or maybe it was a Groupon. Â One of those deal-y thingers. Â Ya'all know what I'm talking about.
The deal itself was for two apps, two entrees, and a dessert for $20. Â In all, it was basically half-off for the dinner. Â Unfortunately, the first time we tried was a Saturday night when they have a buffet ($17.99/person, I believe the lady said) and belly dancing. Â They were not honoring the deals that night (shucks). Â It would have been helpful if the Deal had stated such, but not sure if that's the deal company's fault or Axum's for not specifying. Â Either way, just FYI if they run another in the future.
We tried again on a week night. Â The place was not busy, with only a few other tables besides ours. Â And two or three more coming in as we dined. Â This time we were successful with our coupon. Â For our appetizers, I ordered the Sambusa, and Dude got Timatim FitFit (injera mixed with tomatoes, onion, jalapeno, and herbs). Â The Sambusa was stuffed with lentils and nicely fried; served with a sweet-spicy honey dipping sauce, it was the right start to a good meal.
My fault for not asking, but what we really wanted for our mains was the vegetarian combo. Â However, the deal listed "entree" (not "combinations") so I kept my mouth shut and ordered an entree (wahn waaahn). Â I got the Miser Wot -- red lentils cooked with spices. Â Dude ordered Atakilit Wot, a dish of cabbage, carrots, and potatoes. Â He was kind enough to order a vegetarian entree so we could share. Â It appeared, based on another table's order, that the veggie combo could have been ordered. Â So I kicked myself for not asking while stuffing myself with Wots.
Both dishes were served together on a big ol' piece of injera, with House Salad between the two of them. Â And that's where the fourth star falls off. Â I was really excited for the salad because something about the salads at other Ethiopian restaurants I've been to always have some super delicious flavor that, try as I might, can never be replicated at home. Â This one has no delightful jalapenos, and no striking flavor. Â It was basically lettuce with tomatoes, onions, and vinegar. Â Still good, just not awesome. Â The entrees themselves were pretty on-par with other places we've had them at. Â For dessert the choices were cheesecake or Baklava. Â Kind of random overall, but we decided on the Baklava since we don't often have it. Â It was served warm, and spiced with a lot of ginger. Â The two individual pieces were just the right size to finish off the meal.
The service was typical for this type of dining; I think there was only one person taking care of all the tables. Â It worked out just fine, as Ethiopian dining tends to be a little more leisurely (IMO) than many other places. Â As a bonus, we got to watch "Mrs. Doubtfire" on mute! Â That, coupled with the mix of hip-hop beats and then what sounded like Coltrane on the stereo made for quit the mix. Â While Axum wouldn't likely be my first pick for Ethiopian dining, I would visit again (especially if they run another deal!). Â We weren't really feeling it that particular Saturday night, but perhaps in the future we'll give belly dancing and the buffet a go.
This was my first time trying Ethiopian food. Now, with all the rave reviews out there regarding Ethiopian food, perhaps my expectations were a bit too high.
The place is cute and quaint. There is a small free parking lot outside. There are two really nice servers that service the entire restaurant....that equates to welcoming patrons, sitting them down, taking orders, making drinks, bringing out food, bussing tables, preparing the check, etc., all by themselves. This must be a cultural thing, because I've only seen this done in African restaurants. Regardless, it boils down to a slower service pace which may not be for you if you are not the patient kind. If you are in party of two, go ahead and prepare at least 1.5 hours for the whole experience.
At first, the food was promising. The Sambusa with Vegetables was fantastic. It reminded me of Indian Samosas. Tons of subtle yet interesting flavors. Then the remainder of the food came out. It was a complete let down. The Axum Special Beef Tips were just a stir fry of beef, green peppers, and onions. It was so underwhelming and bland. Sadly, I could have stayed at home and made this myself with my eyes closed. The Kik Alicha was recommended to me as the best vegetarian dish in the house by one of the servers, and unfortunately, it tasted like I was eating a cardboard box. Absolutely no flavor whatsoever. On the up side, my husband says the Ethiopian beer is extremely crisp and clean with no aftertaste.
I'm going to give Ethiopian food one more shot....just not Axum.
Excellent service...these ladies made a very intimidating experience a fun one. Food was great, prompt, and excellently sized portions. I had tons of questions and the waitress answered them all while me figure out what to order. Also, both waitresses were serving all tables and were always making sure we had what we needed. We got two full meals (with leftovers) and drinks for $25. Hell yeah!
Bottom line: nice folks, delicious food, good value, fun times!
Delicious!
The food here is fantastic. I don't know how often I will make the trek all the way out to East Colfax, but if I do, it will be for some grub at Axum.
The beer is great as well. I am used to Ethiopian beer being very heavy and dark. They have several light and some even fruity beers from Ethiopia, here.
Yay for off street, free parking!
There was no wait on a Tuesday evening, it seemed to get busier around 7pm, but still not full. Because there was only one server, the service was a bit slow and she brought my friend her samosa-type thing with the dip bowl (but without the dip), but overall it was a positive experience.
Axum Restaurant is Ethiopian food made to order, IN A CROCK POT!!!!!!!!!! My experience here was one of the most excruciating meals I've ever had in Denver. We came into the place ready to spend a little more time than the usual due to many reviews saying the service was slow at best. The GF and a couple of our friends tried Axum on a Saturday night, probably our first mistake. The place was pretty packed and they had only two waitresses on. Not a good sign, I mean come on you pay a waitress minimum wage with no benefits, how hard is it to have an extra come in and cut them if not that busy? We ordered after about fifteen minutes, because that's when the waitress finally came over to our table. Got our beers and empty water glass another fifteen minutes later. After an hour and three other tables getting food before us, we had to ask what the deal was. When we did finally get our two combinations, which I would say would maybe have fed the four of us, everything was cold. None too pleased. I hope this was a fluke deal, but I won't be returning to find out. Maybe the key is to go sit at the bar and order, as two guys came in and ate and had a drink in a matter of about twenty minutes while we hungrily waited for ours. I will say that most of the dished I tried were quite tasty.
Review Source:I'm a regular here. The doro wot is delicious but can be a hit or a so-so depending on how long the chicken has had to stew. The misir wot is a chunky bean stew guy which is a very similar flavor to the doro wot, but super good nonetheless. the star of the party has to be the SHIRO (chickpea? some kind of ground up bean) which we discovered here in the veggie combo. YUM. Try it. its very mild but super flavorful. GO SHIRO!
Review Source:The food has gotten much more consistent the past four times I've been and they seem to have more customers; the service has improved immensely, so I'm giving them four stars. Like all Ethiopian, be prepared for a bit of a wait. Get the sambussas or azifa if you're really hungry! The azifa is ridiculously full of horseradish and it really clears your sinuses.
I always get the vegetarian combination, but instead of gomen I make sure to order the shiro. So good, especially here. The yebeg alicha is also really great if you eat meat.
Went Saturday night due to a Groupon we had. Food was absolutely fantastic! Try the Ethiopian beers, really different and good.
As with other ethnic places, the food is usually great, but they have no clue how to provide customer service and the decor is just hideous. If you go, don't be in a hurry and have tons of patience. It's worth it. Better yet, order take out.
I really don't know how to rate this place, because the food was absolutely outstanding but the service was some of the worst I've ever had. I'm trying to be forgiving because there are probably some cultural disparities there and our waitress didn't speak much english, but the service was just really not good at all.
I went to Axum with a Groupon. Both my friend and I were tired, it was 8:40 or so already so I got whatever was named the strangest and my friend went with the most different. Which ended up being ZilZil Tibs for me and Kitfo for my friend. I had a sambusa before hand which was excellent, and my friend got the Axum salad as well.
If you plan on coming here, bring a lot of patience and a lot of time. It took us almost an hour and a half to get through our meal, and we were literally the only people in the place on a Thursday evening, so I can't imagine what it's like on a busy night.
While my friend and I were sitting there thirsty, water glasses empty, our waitress was at the bar right in front of us polishing wine glasses. I had to ask. My friend ordered coffee with our entrees and she didn't bother to tell us that they were not in coffee making hours until we mentioned at the end of the meal that it was never brought.
I think she might have just forgotten, but it was a nice gesture to come out to us while she was roasting the beans in a skillet and let us smell them. Plus, the coffee presentation is awesome.
If the portions weren't so small, and the service so terrible, I'd want to be a regular here. But sadly you don't get much and the wait is just unbearable.
This was some of the best Ethiopian food I've had in Denver. I am a vegetarian and always get the veggie combo. Â Amazing! Â And not overly oily like so many Ethiopian places. Â The prices are also crazy low for the food. Â Veggie combo was $10 when I went, for an enormous amount of food.
I definitely agree with the other reviewers that the service is ridiculously slow. Â However, having been to Axum a number of times now, I just expect it and think of it as part of the experience. Â I would never go here if I needed a quick bite, but if you are going with a friend or a date and want a relaxing experience, this is the place to go.
I have tried at least 6 Ethiopian restaurants in Denver, and this is in my top 2 (I can't decide between Axum or Queen of Sheeba - prices are better at Axum, service is much better/faster at Queen of Sheeba, food is excellent at both).
I do think this is the best Ethiopian food I have had in Denver and I am always surprised at my bill and how cheap it is. I am always overly full when I leave. I suggest to get an appetizer before your meal. Getting food does take a while but it is worth the wait. The servers are friendly and sweet. If you have never had Ethiopian food before and are overwhelmed by the menu, just get the meat and veggie combo.
Review Source:Yes, the food tastes good. But this was one of the worst service experiences I've had. There was no attempt made to create atmosphere, until they turned some music on half an hour into our time. And, as other reviewers have said, the servers just didn't seem to care.
We ordered appetizers and entrees, and neither came until more than 45 minutes had passed. There was only one other table of people there. And no apologies were made. It was very bizarre. I was embarrassed to have brought our out-of-town guest there. I wonder how they stay in business given the other good Ethiopian options.
We arrived at Axum unprepared, as my girlfriend and I had purchased a coupon on http://restaurant.com but did not have access to a printer. We asked if the wait staff would be so accommodating as to simply take down the number from the coupon, as I had the coupon open on my iPhone, and they firmly declined. We proceeded to order and were greeted by extremely small portions after ordering both the vegetable and meat combos.
In all, the food was delicious, but the small portions and the unwavering waitstaff equate to my choosing to patronize the myriad other Ethiopian options on Colfax alone, especially Queen of Sheba, which has presented itself as the superior dining experience to Axum.
We later went back to take advantage of our still pending coupon, and received a much better dining experience after being served by a woman who appeared to be the owner. The portions were of reasonable size and the food was good. I do have a sinking suspicion that we were given special treatment because of being discovered as yelpers.
Again, with so many other choices for Ethiopian on Colfax, the http://restaurant.com coupon would be the biggest motivator to choose Axum again.
Um, yum Axum!
The beef tibs are my favorite thing to eat here. Â Tibs are the first thing I tried of Ethopian cuisine and these are up there with the best I've had. Â They are not as spicy as some, but still good. Â And messy. Â Which makes them all the better.
Axum has recently changed their menu and now includes timatim fit fit (injera torn up and mixed with tomatoes, onion, jalapeno, spices and vinegar). Â So good. Â
The staff is very friendly and the decor is nicer than many other Ethiopian restaurants have.
Remember to have time to sit when you go here. Â You can't rush something this delicious!
My United Nations like quest to sample all the various ethnic cuisines available on Colfax continues with my journey to this delicious late-night Ethiopian joint.
We started with some deliciously, surprisingly big sambusas filled to the brim with lentils and served with a sweet and spicy awaze sauce (honey and chili flakes basically). It was probably the best sambusa I had anywhere.
We then ordered a combination of various meat and vegetable dishes and they were all good to excellent. I loved the bedero fanta: lamb shank served in a complex berbere sauce with interesting undertones likely from cinnamon or some other pie spices. The server was a bit coy about what exactly they were.
The vegetarian wots were also generally good, especially the carrot, cabbage and potato atakalit wot which was simmering in a delicious ginger and tumeric infused sauce. I did however wish the red lentil mesir wot was a bit spicier the way some other restaurants in town serve it.
I had a delicious glass of honey wine with dinner. The server told me they actually make their own honey wine and I had just gotten a new batch. I could tell that it tasted a bit fresher and had a more complex flavor than some other places I've tried the wine.
The service was efficient though sometimes a bit slow. It took awhile for my friend to get the coffee she ordered, though she told it was great.
So if you're ever up late and wanting an ethnic food adventure on East Colfax, head to Axum.
Odd, but good...I think.
You wouldn't come here for the ambiance, unless it's still the 80's and you like to lounge on black lacquered furniture and watch a 200 inch TV (okay, not that big, but it looks huge balancing on top of one of those fake fireplaces) while a disco ball spins between the fly-fisherman themed lights above.
Everyone else in the place was obviously a regular, but our waitress was nice and accommodating, though she spoke no English. No big deal, we used lots of pointing and hand gestures and we are at least 75% sure we got what we ordered.
Not as spicy as other dishes I've tried, but definitely a more diverse menu. I also agree with the other reviewers in that it's not as greasy as some of the more typical Ethiopian dishes I've tried, which is always nice.
A nice place to check out when all the other Ethiopian restaurants on Colfax seem to be closed on a Friday night (as was the case with us).
Ok, so I saw the disco ball in action... Late night, this place turns into a dance club for the local Ethiopian community. Walking back to me house with a group of friends, we were waved in as we passed.
The people inside could not have been more inviting and friendly. They taught us traditional Ethiopian style disco moves - namely how to shake the shoulders while keeping your head still. Sweet move. It ranks #2 on my favorites now, just below river dancing.
Delicious Ethiopian fare and super friendly service! Not only was the food tasty, but the server was more than happy to bring more bread to soak up every last bit of goodness, which was great considering some places are tight on the extras.
The interior looks like a 1970's rec room, and there's no choice for appetizers, but other than that, this place is top notch Ethiopian.
The prices are also way reasonable. I got the veggie combo plate for a whopping $7.99 and it was piled with food!
If you like food from this part of the world, be sure to check it out :)
I am a huge fan of Ethiopian food and this was my first experience since moving to Denver... and I was pleasantly surprised.
One does not go to Axum for the ambiance, but the food is great. Â The food was less greasy than many Ethiopian places I have tried. Â We had two vegetarian entrees (each less than 9 dollars) and there was lots of food and it was great. Â Also the Ethiopian tea is a must try item on the menu!!
I have NO idea why this place only has two stars!
Had lunch there today and I basically shoved all of the food in the entire world into my face. The service is a bit on the slow side but I've experienced that at most Ethiopian places I have been. Â
We got the veggie combo and chicken stew for the two of us. Â SO MUCH FOOD. Â And all of it was absolutely fantastic, seriously, not a dud on the plate. Â I wish I could say that we ate every bite but there was absolutely no way that was happening.
The food at Axum is less greasy than a lot of Ethiopian I have had before which is a HUGE plus in my book and I will ask them to make it a bit more spicy next time, but there will absolutely be a next time. Â I mean, it was way too early in the day to get the honey wine this time!
Oh, like Nicole we basically had the entire place to ourselves aside from a table that was finishing as we got there and some patrons at the bar.
We decided to check out this place since neither my friend nor I had been there, and we had a coupon from the Entertainment Book.
We arrived a smidge early (6pm) to make sure we beat the crowds. I was a little nervous when we pulled up cause no-one had yet to review it on yelp and there were only 2 cars in the parking lot... Â It got worse... Â The 2 cars were relatives there to say hi....
So we had the entire place to ourselves. Â Not a bad thing, but not a great thing either. It is a pretty big place.
We got to pick where we wanted to sit - gotta love it!
We went with water since they only had Ethiopian wine and beer (we think, the language barrier was a little tough)
The menu was a smidge confusing and not what any of us were used to.
We went the white people route and did the meat combo (#1), the veggie combo (#18) and then 1 additional plate of spicy meat with peppers.
We thought the 2 combos would be enough, but the waitress indicated that it might not be...
There were no options for appetizers - better for the waist line, but we sat for a bit waiting for the big plate to be prepared and had only our water glasses (mine was empty and she wasn't very prompt with the refill) and each other to entertain ourselves. Â
The plate come out looking fabulous -and I of course forgot to take a picture - too hungty!!
They also deliver a basket of the "bread" which was great! Some places can be a bit stingy with it!
We dug in! Very yummy! The "bread" was less dense than I've had previously, so that was a nice feature.
The spicy, wasn't
The salad in the middle of the plate, though pretty was not as yummy as i have had at other locations.
We ate to our hearts content. What we are assuming was the chef - the mom - the head honcho - checked on us mid way through the meal and we indicated we were enjoying out food!
The price point is awesome too. For the 3 of us it was only $28 - and with out buy one get one coupon that brought it down to $21 for all of us. Holy guacamole - what a deal!
Definitely tasty, but i would have to pick my other fav - Arada over this place.
