In sushi-laden Lakeview, Barrio has consistently been a welcome reprieve from raw tuna and steamed dumplings. I love raw tuna and steamed dumplings, however occasionally it's wonderful to have something wrapped in a tortilla rather than rice.
I only order the three tacos for $11 because... it's three filling tacos for $11. Duh. They are packed with flavor, spice, freshness and saucy sass and can be washed down deliciously with a margarita.
The seating in the back is the place to be, because I have found that creepers like to sit at the front and watch the foot traffic down Clark. The ambiance isn't the greatest, but who cares? It's three tacos for $11 people. Plus they have patio seating in the summer. Hooray!
"That place was a dud" was the text I got from girlfriend, after we parted ways. Â I think that sums up this place to a T. Â
Drinks: I ordered an anejo, straight, and was asked a few times if I wanted a shot. No, I just wanted a decent tequila to sip on. Â So we ordered some a margarita, a mojito, and some sangria throughout the night. Â All of it tasted like it had been made, and then "watered down" with a mix of sugar and...well sugar syrup. They were disgustingly sweet, so much so that I was adding water to my glass to make it palatable. Â
Food: Okay, but nothing to write home about. Â It all felt very basic, very rushed, and at times under prepped. The cerviche had too many raw apples in it, and not enough fish. Â The tacos were good, but lacked seasoning. Â The sorbet was okay, and I know its supposed to be sweet, but even the blood orange which is supposed to feature SOME tartness was decked out in sugar.
Service: Sporadic, but helpful when it did arrive.
Ambiance: All of the pictures were crooked and that drove me insane. Further more, on a chilly Feburary night, it felt like the AC was on. Until you went to the restroom, where it was absolutely bonechillingly cold.
I wouldn't go back, personally.
