It is nice having a place like Monk's in Fairmount. The beer, mussels, burgers, and frites are great as expected from the same proprietors. When it's warm, you can sit outside (max 4 people). I think it falls short of the original, but for the neighborhood, it's the best place to go for a belgian draft.
Review Source:Came to Philly to visit a friend and she recommended coming to this place. She doesn't live too far from here, so we walked and the surrounding neighborhood is cute and cozy.
We ordered a few glases of wine, 2 orders of the mussels and some pomme frites. Very simple yet amazingly delicious. Very chill place with a very large beer selection. I know my boyfriend would have loved this place because of the wide variety of beers.
Overall, great experience here and would definitely come back for a visit.
Waited for an outside table while sipping beer at the bar. Â Got to watch a feud brewing between bartender and her management. Â Not very discreet at all, and the bartender took out her frustration on the guests stating to another server, "They can all wait. Â Juts make them wait."
Outside was a different story. Â Mussels (which come in a variety of sauces) are worth the price of admission -- and the price is very fair. Â I'd go back for mussels and outdoor ambiance. Â But I'd avoid the bar.
