Great ambiance, amazing drinks, delicious food!  It's run by the creative Chef Antonia, so you shouldn't expect less.  And it's not THAT loud.  If you're looking for a quiet, romantic setting with classical music playing in the background, this is not goinng to be your cup of tea!

They dont take reservations--a 45-minute to an hour wait on a weekend night is average.  After 9:30, you can expect it to be PACKED.

They have a really good selection of fun mixed drinks.  I had the strawberry jalapeno hot and bothered, and it was really unusual and yummy :)

We had 4 of the entrees to share.  Definitely tiny, tapas-style.  Each bite is super flavorful, and you can really see the work that went into crafting the menu.  If you are starving and looking for a place to fill you up on the cheap, again, probably not the best choice for you.

You'll have a great time sampling the fun dinner and drink options here!

One hour wait when I walk in at 8:45?  No resos accepted?

Food is great, but draft beer selection is limited.

    *insert incredibly loud music here*

This place is, for the most part, awesome.  Personally, I really have to be in the mood to go to a place like this.  I've never been a fan of a place where I have to shout to my date to be heard.... but the ambiance (outside of the extra loud music), food, and service make up for that part.

The food and drinks are reasonably priced and the crowd seems to be the young & trendy professional genre.  Also the space is well decorated, and the lights are set low to give it that hipster/romantic/mysterious vibe.

I would say this is a great place to go to get drinks and get you pumped for the main event (whatever your main event is - bachelorette party?  Yes.  Birthday celebration?  Definitely.  Baby shower?  Mmm... maybe not.)

The food was delicious and the drinks were fantastic.  I highly recommend the Hot and Bothered, like many people already have.

My bestie and I decided to have a 10pm late dinner on a Saturday at Black Market. We pulled up to a restaurant that had a motorcyle sign, that hides this "black market" spot.  We realized we came to the right spot when we saw the valet sign read, "Black Market Restaurant".  Valet was $3.00, if my memory serves me right. Street parking on Ventura is a pain.  Walked up and got checked for our IDs which the door man was very pleasant.  We walked in and it was a trendy young crowd packed in the spot.  The host greeted us and was seated right away.  If you do not like loud places, this is not a place for you.  I was screaming at the top of my lungs discussing with my bestie what to order.  As servers walked by with other peoples dishes, we noticed they were small plates.  We ended up ordering quail deviled eggs-super deelish, but not enough; fried cauliflower w/ an aoli-could not stop eating these; pork shank ragu w/ pasta-tasted like regular pasta I could make at home; mussels-had a sweet flavor to the broth and the mussells were super tiny; and last we had for dessert the Nutter Butter item-very sweet and a huge portion.  The staff was very attentive and they all assisted when we needed something.

Overall, great dining experience, but not sure if I would come back to place as a preferred restaurant for dinner.  This place is most likely to be a hang out with girlfriends for me.

    Great place. Great crowd.
Parking can be difficult if your there too late. Overall atmosphere is good.

It is neither surprising nor astonishing that a restaurant in LA is more likely to be about appearance rather than substance, but Black Market takes it to the next level.
My subjective opinion would be unprofessional and it would be deemed spiteful, so I shall be very methodical and proceed to simply inventory my experience. There are no reservations, waiting for a table is the only option (no gripe, it is a good sign after all), there is the customary immaculate white Porsche parked right at the door with the customary exotic-black-clad-skinny-unshaven-character leaning against it and the customary procession of implausibly high heeled young women. It is LA, unremarkable. Once seated, the din becomes somewhat frustrating, but no great feat of human endeavor was ever accomplished in a restaurant, so one bears resigned.
The bill of fare  is a masterpiece of paint-by-number culinary effort; every cliché, trope and  synecdoche that could be associated with food and its lore is mimicry on a plate or rather a wooden cutting board. No original thoughts were conjured in the making of Black Market menu.
The food is adequately executed. The desserts are ill conceived. There is no service to speak of, yet you do receive what has been ordered at one point or another. The dining room is so dimly lit that you would not be aware that you just had a long conversation with Chewbacca and enjoyed it. Black Market is for someone who could not care less about dining, but he is more interested  in the illusion of dining in an urban environment. I guess some people would call it fun.

This has definitely become our favorite spot.  The lounge-like, cave-like atmosphere makes you feel like it's a fun night out.  What makes us come back again and again is the food.  We love the chef's creations.  The small portions are great because you can order a few dishes.  The knudi (sp?) reminds me of what I ate as a little girl -- how sentimental!  Love it.

Okay, last time I reviewed Black Market, I was a bit harsh.  But our last visit redeemed this little gastro pub.  The food at both of our visits were great, but the first time, the service was absolutely shameful.  On our second visit (we only gave it a second chance because the food was so good), service was much better.  Granted, it was much earlier, and not nearly as crowded, but I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt on this one.

Black Market really has above average food, served small plate style.  On this visit, we had the shishito peppers, the korean wings, the kale salad, the fried squash blossoms, and the pork cheek with polenta.  Every dish was delicious, and the wings, squash blossoms, and pork cheek were all unusual enough to really be stand out dishes.

So Black Market is 1 for 2 in my book, but with food this good, I'll be back for round 3.

Bruschetta is the best in the whole fucking country. Beyond delicious I have never tasted a medley of flavors that worked so well together.

I wish I could give them 4 stars. I do. The vibe is 4-5 stars, the staff is 4-5 stars, conceptually, the menu is 4-5 stars, the drinks are 4-5 stars. I have been a few times. I love it. However, I was completely appalled at what the chef let come out of the kitchen last night.

so the red hot and bothered drink is so damn good! if you like sweet and super spicy, this is your drink! the inception viogner is overly sweet, the beers we had were all good, nothing great. the ahi appetizer I did not care for, the fish was fresh, the capers nice but I did not care for the olives in with raw fish; not terrible though. What stopped our meal were the mussels. I *love* mussels. These were beautifully prepared in a nice (shallot?) garlic fennel base that was, by it's self delicious, but the mussels never should have left the kitchen. They were the size of flies and looked similar. decrepit exhausted, tired little things. I have never seen such things, starving we searched through them for something decent and found one tiny normal shaped mussel. really inappropriate for any chef to let that go out of the kitchen.

I have been a few times and always kind of disappointed in the food, which conceptually, is great, but in practice, I have never had anything here that made a particularly positive impression. LOVE THE DRINKS AND VIBE THOUGH. Great place for a drink and maybe on e appetizer before dinner elsewhere.

Super, super great and attentive staff. The food is delicious but I hope the small plate trend will be over soon. 1 slider for $9 is just crazy!  The desserts are awesome! We tried the deep fried fluffer nutter and the hot chocolate pudding. The fluffer nutter was the perfect mix of marshmallow, peanut butter, banana gooey goodness and the hot chocolate pudding was the perfect mix of spicy and chocolate. Drinks were delicious and priced like every other trendy spot right now.

My best advice if you're watching your budget, go for drinks + appetizers or drinks + dessert. Go after already having a real meal so you won't be tempted to try every tasty thing on the menu.

Omg all the food I had was amazing but the most heavenly amazing plates I had in my life were the Ricotta gnudi and the Nutella ice cream. Cocktails were okay. But I will definitely come back for some more foodgasms with friends.

Interesting establishment. Came here for a friend's birthday gathering and I was immediately impressed by the dark wood flooring and industrial looking fans, and the open kitchen plan. My part of the group arrived later than everyone else, but our waiter arrived immediately to help get us up to speed. Great service. +1 star.

I love interesting alcoholic beverages. A normal margarita works for me, but if I can try something different that I can't make for myself at home, then I'm all for it. The Punch for One was smooth and the Red Hot & Bothered was great, very spicy. Interesting drinks. + 1 star.

Food. Now, I LOVE food. I will try almost anything. I appreciate a place with reasonable prices and reasonable portions. I felt that Black Market had neither. We ordered some Korean spiced chicken wings which were very tasty, and were very $11. Also, ordered the short rib on brioche which was ant portioned, for $9. Still hungry. Didn't know what half the ingredients in the food or drink were. I get it, Black Market. You're cooler than the average small plates place. Minus -1 star.

Dessert. I don't have much of a sweet tooth, but every now and then the dessert menu really tickles me. This place has a deep fried fluffernutter sandwich with bananas and it was just as good as it sounds. Also had an order of Thin Mint ice cream which was a game changer. Next time I come here, it will just be for desserts. Awesome dessert game, y'all. Plus +2 stars.

I had eaten a late lunch but met my friends at Black Market after work last week for some drinks and food. LIke I said, I had eaten already but that sure didn't stop me from enjoying dessert with them. Seriously one of the best desserts I have ever had! The deep fried fluffer-nutter... absolutely AMAZINNNGGGGGG! Fried peanut butter, marshmallows and bananas in a big round, cube thingy that is out of this world amazing!
A very unique, dark decor that has a dungeon-like feeling but in a good way, if that makes sense. Very tasty, unique cocktails with large cubes of ice that I absolutely adore. This place has unique swag to say the least. I don't use that word often but this is certainly a good time to!

    Those that know...know.
And if you don't, I almost don't want to tell you about this place because it will ruin the coolness.
SUPER friendly staff from the second we walked in. Our waiter, an adorable and polite gentleman from Arkansas was attentive and gave me a "vegan" menu with everything I could eat or how it could be modified.
Couldn't decide on a drink and he said "go with your gut!" So I ordered the Punch for One (but I could have enjoyed 2 or 3).
Semi-open kitchen, fun to watch the food being prepared.
Only gets 4 stars because we were shouting (the walls, brick ceiling, and concrete floor don't offer much for sound absorption). AND it's on the worst spot of Ventura blvd. for parking so Valet is pretty much your only option.

OH and the menu options change daily. Pretty cool dinner roulette.

Amazing cocktails, delicious food..  YUM!.  The only knock on this place is that it's always crowded so you end up having to yell back and forth with your dinner partner..   But the food quality certainly makes up for it..

Nice vibe!  Great food!  Reasonable prices.

Been here twice and both times I've been happy with the food.  2nd visit the service was spotty (yet the place was far less busy) hence the 4 stars.

Love the sliders, brussel sprouts, oxtail ragu, potato chips.

We had an amazing time & Antonia was in the kitchen. We love top chef!

First, ambiance was wonderful. Gastropub like, so very busy, but fun atmosphere.

The drinks were amazing. My boyfriend is a whiskey drinker so definitely would recommend whiskey, guns, & metal, if you're the manhattan type. I got the drink with egg white, gin, apry, and orgeat, which is called the Acropolis. Sounds out there but this drink was amazing. I had to get 2!

Dinner is small plates, sharing style. The chips were great to start with as well as the appetizers with the burrata & shishito peppers. Would highly recommend the shrimp, if your down to get your hands dirty. Very delicious!

Had a great dinner! Quality food, reasonably priced

Not sure how to review this place. So I think 3 stars is appropriate.

I am one of those that walks by this place almost daily and didn't know it was here. I had to put the address in my phone and "walk closer to the dot" before I realized, duh, I am here. The valet guys are cute in helping lead the way as well, waving at people who are walking by and pause with a confused look on their face and spin in circles.

The drinks= delicious. Pricey, yes. That has me hesitating to have more and come back often.

Food= good, but really small portions and expensive for what you get. You do leave hungry, even after ordering multiple items. We had the chicken wings (delicious) chicken mole (good, very saucy) and the dill potato chips. I love dill and chips, so that alone will have me coming back. Small portion again, if you are a chip lover like me, you will embarrassingly want to place another order, or order two immediately.

Having said all that, this is a great one drink and app stop along the way. Speaking of, hey where's those dill potato chips?  :)

This place is awesome! The ambience is definitely hipster, but I'm willing to put up with it for the delicious food and amazing drinks.

We've been there twice now, both times with a group of friends so we were able to sample a majority of the menu, including:

-mussels (the broth is so good you'll want a spoon for the rest!)
-brown butter gnudi (my favorite! Holy crap this stuff is good!)
-ricotta cream (perfect combo of sweet and savory)
-short rib slider (everything about this is perfect)
-fluffer nutter (bananas. Peanut butter. Marshmallow fluff. Deep fried. Need I say more?)

This is a great spot to have a great Saturday night out with friends. The service has always been great here. However do not come expecting a quick 30 min dinner. Sit down, order a drink, relax and enjoy!

Another gastropub, huh? Yippity doo, just what the Valley needed . .but there's something different about this spot: Could it be the hangar-like vaulted ceilings and minimalist stylish layout WITHOUT communal tables and faux brick? The focus on liquor in lieu of microbrews? The fact that it's reminiscent of a New York spot, devoid of a sign and super easy to miss, especially on a generic row on East Ventura Blvd? Or is it just that the food is actually insanely good? How about all of the above.

Black Market is a fun, if a bit pricey, upscale place for drinks & great small plates in Studio City. The bartenders - nee, mixologists - take their time in mixing up the house special cocktails, but they do a damn fine job whether it's the Basil Ray, Punch for One, or a Gimlet. The service is a tad slow, but if you're at Black Market - it's likely to socialize, so once you have your drink in hand, you'll hardly notice. Especially if you're there to eat. Granted, small plates have become the norm and can be a bit frustrating - especially as the portions are very small here; enough to feed one or MAYBE two people (not four, as was in our party last night). That said, the food is excellent, amongst the finest in all of Los Angeles, at least amongst gastropubs not named Gjelina,

The deviled quail eggs are a photogenic, cute dish that provides the perfect start to the meal and introduction to Black Market. The brussels sprouts are divine - I've never had them like this - completely shredded sprouts with almonds that provide the perfect crunch & awesome saltiness offset by the sweet/sour of grape. Topped with pecorino, these were insane. The Kurobuta pork cheek, creamed polenta mushrooms, pickled shallots was a bit rich, but also delicious. The BBQ shortrib was surprisingly served on a brioche roll with raisin fennel, arugula & confit tomato - again, a very small portion, but otherwise wonderful. Also very unique were the kimchi chicken wings, providing the perfect amount of spice and uniqueness to what would otherwise be a typical dish. We finished with the spicy pudding, which was a complete revelation - the creamy depth of the pudding itself would have been amazing, but topped with a spiked whipped topping, the meal ended on such a complex note that we wanted to order more, simply to see what else this Chef could create.

Again, the price was a bit high - we spent $304, but that did include 16 drinks - but you truly get what you pay for at Black Market Liquor Bar.

Overall: 2.85, though I'm rating 3*. If I ever go back I hope to have a better experience.

It is quite frustrating to give this place such a low overall mark. I love something about a hidden place that appears like a grotto with confusing markings of a motorcycle company and no awning or window signage. Black Market, could have survived as a Speakeasy, but alas prohibition is over. Yet that doesn't stop me from loving decor inspired by that or the wine caves of France or Italy. Does it appear as though I was torn? I hope so, because I was...

    Location/Space: 4/5*
Initial entry to this location was confusing as I stated earlier (i.e. hidden signage, but it was expected). My beautiful gastropub/wine bar/eatery-closing companion was lost in the alley behind the location and it didn't help that they were resurfacing Ventura Blvd. Though, that's no fault of Black Market's. So while I waited, I perused the menu in the extremely dim light (aided significantly by my cell phone, but that seems ridiculous not to be able to see your menu). The area, across from Laurel Tavern, beside Jumpin' Java and Lala is well traveled and very popular. I liked the interior accents (beside the booths which are uncomfortably cramped because of a bizarrely large leg and support). The ceiling fan(s) are the old external motor and belt driven ones, which I tend to like.

Drinks: 3.5/5*: The list looked impressive for mixed drinks, wines, and beer. Though, when you got down to it, the mixed drink specialties were the only thing that looked interesting. I ordered the Red Hot and Bothered, which seemed interesting and consisted of a jalapeno-infused vodka, strawberry, blood orange, agave, and ginger beer. The proportions seemed a littjulienned le heavy on the blood orange and ginger beer. The spice of the jalapeno was noticeable, but it was the ginger that appeared overpowering. I prefer my drinks to act with complexity but to work together. I'm not sure this drink did that. So, I moved on to wine, when I could (after my tongue regained some senses, not that the drink was really that spicy, just too disparate in spice, sweet, bitter, & acid). The wine selection was about as good as Wood & Vine, which to me is a real let down. But I felt I needed standard after that drink. The Central Coast Pinot that my partner got was adequate, but not special. I tried the Syrah/grenache from Luberon (think hills near Avignon, Arles, etc)... It had the name dauvergne, so I immediately gravitated to it, but was seriously disappointed.

Service: 1/5... Initial service by the hostess was quick and noted the apparent lack of tables. So I sat near the front window and stared outside. Usually I don't rate for service, but it's necessary here. The night began well enough with a blond waitress who was clear that they were out of the Crab po' boy and another item on the menu. Fine. After she left us, no one would come to our table for hours. We had to grab a relatively quick moving male waiter to order dessert and wine. However, he was less that happy to respond to us. Frankly it appeared that we were bothering him. It made eating here extremely uncomfortable.

Food/Dessert Menu: 4/5: The variety of little plates was great.

4/5: The beet salad was really unique. It had a complex flavor but, one that was well balanced. Slices of mandarin oranges, tarragon, ricotta (light and reasonable choice), hazelnuts (yummy warm addition), & vanilla really paired nicely with other delicate seasoning.

4/5: The Brussels Sprouts were also very nice with a good char, but well julienned made for a nice pairing with the beet salad. The nuts in particular (almonds) seemed to give more earthy texture with the pecorino.

3.5/5 The Date cake (on the menu for the toffee pudding) was a date pudding that reminded me of my mother's persimmon pudding. The flavor was somewhat subdued in the cake and the toffee sauce below was very flavorful. On the whole, not very interesting, but since I love dates, it was a little disappointing.

Conclusion: I will most likely never return here. The draw of the food was not adequate to overpower the mediocre beverages and the awful service. It was times like this that I felt, maybe I'd like the beet salad to-go, or basically anywhere but here.

It would be cool if eateries didn't think they were so cool-for-school that they didn't need to have a phone that actually dials INTO the establishment. I just wanted some late night desserts on a Friday, after drinking - too early for bed, night. Called them so the pick up would run smooth and got an inflated message saying someone will call me back w/in 24 hrs.
Let's not get too high on our horsey, you're still making food for people to EAT not giving birth to the newest cool. It wouldn't kill your image to have some human answer the phone number you give on your site.
I can't stand snooty hipster wanna-fleas, it makes me lose my appetite.

Decisions Decisions - we were going to meet up for drinks and couldn't decide if we were going to meet at Covell in Los Feliz or Black Market Liquor, well Black Market is closer to my place and it was a school night ;) so Black Market it was! I've had it bookmarked longer than I've had Covell but I'm onto their strategy now - be so nondescript that even with navigation I can't find the damn place and have me circling around the block half a dozen times to further work up my interest in Liquor. I needed a damn drink by the time I stepped through the door! I really liked the decor of this place, almost felt like a very busy, very loud wine cave and I love wine caves, quiet, cool wine caves.

It was really the service that made the place unpleasurable. When we first arrived around 930P every table was taken and we snagged a round up near the front window. Our server was attentive, but we needed a little time to look over the menu since it was our first time here. She was helpful but after placing our order she disappeared - perhaps her shift was over, not sure but that's when things got crappy.

We ordered the Red Hot and Bothered (jalapeno-infused vodka, strawberry, blood orange, agave, ginger beer) which was a bit too spicy for me. I love spicy but not in a cocktail. Those of you who do, may really like this drink. It wasn't bad, just different.

I had a Pinot from Paso Robles that I wasn't overly impressed with. Perhaps, I'm liking Cabs more than Pinot lately.

We shared the shaved brussels sprouts (with almonds, grapes and pecorino). I love brussel sprouts so I did enjoy these but in no way do they stack up to Cleo's or Pizzeria Mozza's (which are two of my fav).

The roasted baby beet salad (with mandarin oranges tarragon, ricotta, hazelnut vanilla) was our fav! This was a very light delightful dish.

The warm sweet date cake was also really yummy for dessert, sitting atop toffee sauce - yumm!

They were out of the Crab Po Boy - if I return it will be to try this and grab a beer. We weren't really hungry so we didn't try many selections from the menu, although it looked great. The kitchen closed fairly early and the vibe from the other server just completely through the place off. If you are open until 2A but go around treating the place as if you close at 11P it's not welcoming, comforting or relaxing in anyway.

If you are running a Liquor bar, you don't stop offering customers drinks unless they are completely shit faced and haven't given you their wallet or some cash to call them a cab with. You don't not offer additional drinks after one round, and you don't bring the check 90 minutes before closing time when guest haven't asked for it, unless of course you are running a place just for fun and have no concerns with sales but one would think you'd still want customers to enjoy their time there.

All in all, we should have gone to Covell we were thinking and while we have been in the business of closing places down, when there were a few tables left we made a cautious effort to get up and leave so we weren't closing down a place we didn't care for.

Maybe we hit this place on the wrong night, with the wrong staff, at the wrong time (when the kitchen had run out of several menu items) but nothing about it screamed 5 star for us.

    Valet parking is $4

Great food, great vibe, good drinks. Parking is in short supply and I'm impatient, so it's nice to have the option of a valet. Try to get there early, as the later it gets the more impossible it becomes to score a table.

Can we say "AWE-SUMBALINA"? How about "AMAZE-BALLZ"? Ok.... how about "jolly good"?

I LOVE venturing into new areas out of my normal comfort zone. Today was dinner in the Valley at one of the hippest gastropubs I've been to in ages. Chic ambiance, delish tapas-style menu, sexy liquor list, gorgeous staff (both male and female), and best of all.... a sinfully sexy crowd without nearly as much pretentious bull as Beverly Hills.

Saw Ashton Kucher leaving the place, and HEY... NO PAPARAZZI!!! Gotta love that.

Had an amazing array of deviled quail eggs (SERIOUSLY good.... and I don't even like deviled eggs), kale salad, tender rib slider, beet salad, trout toast.... omg good! I am DEFINITELY coming back here again. GREAT casual first-date place, and the staff, who are ridiculously hot, constantly check in on you, so you not only enjoy looking at them (and drooling), but also appreciate the service. No formal stuffiness at all.

    Winnah!

Somewhat non-descript from the outside (was this an old motorcycle shop based on outside sign?), the inside is much larger than  expected.  On a Thursday night, it was packed, but you can get a table in about 10-15 minutes.  The drinks are classy - lots of rum based elixirs and I understand the menu changes.  We ordered 5 plates between two people and I thought it was plenty of food.  You must try the Brussel sprouts and the spicy Korean chicken wings.  The kimchi wings are the best thing I have eaten in a while.

Service is really friendly.   Eclectic crowd, different ages.  A little loud, but fun.

This has to my favorite gastropub in the Valley, and that's saying a lot.

Originally, I was planning on meeting friends at Laurel Tavern (another great place), but it was suggested that we check out Black Market Liquor. So glad we did.

First off, rather than paying for valet parking, I found parking in the back alley. The rest of my friends did the same.

Walking in, I was immediately pleased with the classic vintage decor, which is very popular with gastropubs nowadays.

We got there about 5:30. It was somewhat empty (good for us!) but got really busy about two hours later, so plan accordingly!

Our server was very friendly, informative, and attentive, thus making our experience enjoyable. Besides our server, we had several servers stop by to check up on us. Impressive!

I ordered the Red Hot and Bothered cocktail. The combination of the jalapeno-infused vodka, ginger, strawberry, and blood orange, made for a delightfully spicy and refreshing drink! It is their signature drink, after all. And I can understand why. Later, I ordered the Abita strawberry pale ale, also very refreshing. :)

To eat, we went crazy and ordered several tapas-style items: the dill potato chips with the aioli sauce (they were made in house and I couldn't stop eating them), Brussels sprouts (it seems that every gastropub has 'em--these were very tasty), the fried cauliflower (reminded me almost of calimari), spicy Korean chicken wings (Genius! Really succulent and reminded me of the Vietnamese fish sauce wings at Pok Pok in Portland,OR!), the charred Spanish baby octopus (very fresh tasting, and reminded me of the kind I had in Barcelona a few years back), AND we had the burrata (yum!)!  Every single item we ordered was filled with flavor. This was classy gastropub grub.

Now, if that wasn't enough, we ordered TWO desserts! We had the deep fried fluffer-nutter (the name is really fun to say, and even more fun to eat!) and the salted caramel pie--both oozing with delectable goodness! So dangerous, calorie wise, but oh, so good! This was an all-out gluttony fest!

Definitely a satisfying experience. I'll be back, hopefully soon!

Another overrated spot in Studio City.  If anything, just come here for the drinks and to be seen on the scene.  It gets super crowded after 7p, so be prepared to wait if you're looking for a table on a Friday night.

A and I came in for food and drinks on a Friday night, but we arrived around 6:15p so there was no wait.  Our waitress was very nice and promptly took our orders.

    Drinks:  Strong, flavorful, recommended.
    Basil Ray $12
    Red Hot and Bothered $12
Natura Sparkling Water for 2 @ .10 cents (SERIOUSLY?)

Food:  Aside from the mussels, everything else is forgettable.
Brussels Sprouts $9 - nothing special
Mussels $16 - MUST order.  Some of the greatest mussels I've had in a while.  I was practically drinking the sauce.
Oxtail Ragu $14 - this was just plain awful.  The pasta was NOT al dente - in fact, it could've used another 4 minutes in the pot.  Not sure how they got away with serving this one.
Fluffernutter $9 w/ nutella ice cream $4 - expensive, indulgent, greasy - but still awesome.  Everyone will be staring at you in disbelief.  "You ordered THAT after the meal we just watched you down?"

Ambiance:  Starts out dark, quiet, and cozy.  As it gets crowded, you realize that you have multiple dinner companions -- the people sitting on your left and your right can hear every word you say.

Parking:  Studio City, so...pain in the...  There is valet in the little alley adjacent to the restaurant itself.

Love love love love love this damn place! Whenever my gf and I want to splurge a little this is always where we both want to go. The beer selection is admirable. The cocktails are tasty. And the food is to die for.

I can't say enough good things about this place. Definitely my favorite restaurant for the moment!

One of our favorite places around our hood!  Food here is delicious.  Keep in mind that the theme is small plates.  So you will need to order quite a bit to be full.  Great drinks too.

    OUR FAVORITES:
    - Fried cauliflower w/lemon aioli
    - Ahi tuna
    - Deep fried fluffer-nutter, peanut butter marshmallow, fresh bananas

DRINK:  Very good drinks.  My favorite is the Red Hot and Bothered (jalapeño-infused vodka, strawberry, blood orange, agave, ginger beer)

CONS:  This place gets packed Friday / Saturday night.  Expect to wait at the bar (standing) for a bit.  Also, parking is horrendous on ventura blvd so we always have to valet.

I have to say, perhaps I'm biased, living in Studio City, but... I LOVE this place. I'm always blown away by how yummy everything is. LA isn't always the best of the best when it comes to food combing and sauce pairing, but every sauce is incredible here and every combination works with so much harmony I cant get enough. Probably just wish everything was larger its that's good!

I saw other reviews of people not being so happy with it, so it made me think about why that might be. The winner of top chef runs the kitchen and the both times I have gone here she was there, looking over every dish and working hard in the kitchen.

In any case, I love the decor, the feel, the booths, feeling as though you're back in time, almost like you're in a vintage wine cellar.

Yum Yum I'm going back for the chips with the incredible aoli. Also you must try the calamari, the muscles, the kale salad, and the quail deviled eggs! YUMMO!

I swear I wrote a review for this place.... I have only come here 474832923 times.

Anyway, the word is out.  This place is the happening spot in the valley for the hipster, bohemian, chic, sexy or whatever trendsetter you are.

The food is really quite an experience on its own.  With the menu changing every day depending on what they get fresh, the food is anything but ordinary.  The foods are rich, flavorful, and creative.  The plates are small and you can easily eat 2 or three on your own.

The drinks are also anything but ordinary.  With house-infused spirits and fresh ingredients, it's easy to please any type of drinker here.

The place gets very packed very early on so be prepared to wait for a table or find room at the bar.  I believe they take reservations so I would highly recommend on doing that.

Valet in front makes it that more more appealing.  Kinda like you are in the city...

This is, by far, my favorite Studio City bar. They have amazing drinks. They are very knowledgeable about their craft. The selection of alcoholic beverages can be overwhelming sometimes but the bartenders make it easy. Aside from that, the food is great. My usual go-to are the mussels. I swear I order at least 2 bowls at every visit. The slider is also good. Yes, I said "slider" singular. It only comes with one. If you're hungry, order two. The people are friendly and not as rowdy as some of the other bars. The staff is friendly, from the hostess to the bartenders. They know how to make you feel welcome.

The prices are a little bit more than your usual dive, but then again it's well worth it. If you like good specialty drinks and great eats. This place will hit the spot. Try to get here early. It gets packed.

Loved this place! They have amazing cocktails and super friendly bar tenders/waiters. We have had Kale as our server twice and he's just awesome.
The food is ridiculous. Some of the pairings I was questioning but I went with it anyways and it was totally worth the risk. The short ribs were melt in your mouth good.
Great pick for foodies and a fun meet up with friends.

I've always been a proud valley gurl, but now I'm rocking a pimp lean all the way to Black Liquor Market!
Ventura Blvd is a tough place.  So many places seem to come and go.  They don't know their target demographic or they try too hard to be Hollywood.  This place is on the cooler side of the spectrum, but its a quiet cool.  Not trying too hard.  Just a little place with exposed brick, good music, $4 valet, good appetizers and AMAZING drinks (& the staff is easy on the eyes).  Its on the pricer side (drinks range $12-14) and the appetizers are small and go from $5-20.  I recommend the dill chips to nibble and the meatballs if you want a little more.  The short rib is a slider -- a tiny 2 bite slider, so be warned.  Service has been good every time I've been here and the vibe is always fun, grown up, classy fun.  So VALLEY PEEPS:  Let's keep it this way!

I'm probably going to get a lot of hate for this review since everyone seems to be raving about this place. Oh well...bring it!

I was very mildly impressed. Yes the pork sliders were delish. Yes it's a trendy lil spot in the Valley. Yes they have a pretty unique drink menu. Will I go back to Black Market? Eh, probably not.

I love the concept of small bites, but come on LA! I've traveled throughout Spain and munched in some of the cutest cafes, trendiest restaurants, and authentic gypsy caves with REAL tapas...all decently priced. So how is it I end up on Ventura Blvd and feel ass-raped by the prices at Black Market?! If 3 people are going to dine for 80+ bucks not including tip, we shouldn't leave hungry. And if I am leaving hungry, then I would expect the bill to be no more than $30 max.

Maybe I'm old or cheap or not trendy enough, but this place is not a justifiable way to spend my money (in my opinion). If you decide to go to Black Market just know what you're getting yourself into.
