a girlfriend of mine raved about this restaurant but a different location (downtown) so we swung by after a girls night out trip to the movies. we (along w/another random couple) waited for a table for a good while til a none too happy irritated stick up her butt must've woke up on the wrong side of the bed server/hostess/employee (whatever her title was) decided to motioned us to follow her w/her finger - assuming she wasnt much in the mood to ask if we've been there before.

finally sat down in a booth w/plenty of elbow room, we waited for another 10 mins til our server approached us for drinks.  another none too happy server who forced a smile on her face (considering it was only 5pm on a slow saturday night - bengals vs houston on the big screen tvs).  we started w/spinach & artichokes dip - eeeh i've had better, though their warm pita bread was pretty tasty i will admit.  i ordered the crab cakes ($14.99) served over wild rice.  what a mistake it was!!!!!! NEVER ever EVER go to a brewery & order a supposed 'authentic' seafood dish.  my pt of view is if you're going to list an entree on the menu (especially crab cakes), can it at least taste like it, rather it tasting like the oil that the crabs were deep fried in??!!!!!! YUCK yuck yuck!!! server came back, too pleasant this time, asking how it was.  i made a 'i'm not sure this will agree w/me in 20 mins' kinda face, she insisted it was HER fav! uuuh huuuuuh. trying to man-up for what i ordered & should finish my meal, after 3 bites from the crab cakes & my iced tea needed to be refilled - i knew it was time for me to send it back to the kitchen & order something else..........

my friend ordered a spinach burger w/GARLIC fries.  i grabbed a few of her garlic fries & they were DEEEEELIIICIOOOOOUS!!!!!!!! yuuuum!  the garlic wasnt powering at all!! finally for desert: bourbon pudding cake. YUUUUUM.

in the end this was a restaurant i tried out and i dont think iiiiiii'll come back..............weeeeell maybe for the garlic fries BUT not so much the crab cakes.

I've always had a great dining experience at BBC and love the impressive beer selection. I also must applaud BBC for outstanding service - my last visit was for a late night meal, which I mistakenly decided to grab during Casktoberfest. The crowd outside was daunting, but my starvation set my stubbornness in motion and I was going to eat nowhere else. We were seated immediately and our server was quite attentive and quick, considering the hordes of beer enthusiasts and drunkards that were present.

On my most recent visit, I ordered Kentucky Proud Steak Burger served "South of the Border" style (blackened and with chipotle jack, salsa verde, guacamole, and jalapenos). If you do not have a penchant for all things spicy and the desire to set your mouth aflame, I would not recommend this option. I was highly pleased with the burn, however, and the accompanying brews to calm the fire. The boyfriend went for the tamer Fish Platter and was also quite satisfied.

I usually opt for the seasonal Bourbon Barrel and am a very happy customer.

Best beer in the bluegrass!!!  Best burger in Louisville!  All the food is great.  Have been a proud Warthog for over a decade.

Catch one of the several random, food carts that set up outside in the evenings.  You'll find some wicked good and pretty unique food.

They've got a really diverse menu so this place would be fitting for a large group with varied tastes where everyone is looking for accommodating seating, something edible and a good time.

I was excited to try the beertails I read about from other reviewers and chow down on a succulent KY proud burger. My friend ordered their wheat beer and I tried the Summer Shandy beertail made with the same wheat beer plus lemonade and peach sweet tea vodka. I was expecting the beertail to come in a normal pint size since it was $6.50, but no--it was a half pint. The two extra bucks were clearly spent for the novelty factor of it. That's something I'm fine with doing at some places--I did set out to try a beertail after all--but I wasn't expecting it from a down to earth spot like BBC.

Other notable tidbits from my experience:
-my friend thought the carrots, lima beans, and veggies that came with his bourbon peach pork chop tasted like they had been frrozen
-they serve their beer cheese cold
-I broke a personal record and ate the bison burger for three meals

Overall, it was hard to shake away the feeling that I was not in fact eating at a chain restaurant because of the numerous TVs, oversized booths, and humongous size of the restaurant in general.

This place clearly has a following. With shelves of beer steins in numbered slots dotting the perimeter of the walls enclosing the bar room and a ring of regulars seated around their watering hole, I can safely bet its the beer that keeps everyone coming back. That, not the beertail, is why I'll go back.

I have drove by here several times and never stopped. I have visited the one downtown several times for lunch. I had a friend in town that likes craft beer so I decided to take her there.  We sat at the bar. I asked the bartender what she recommended and she just seem to blurt out whatever. then we quickly learned that if were not a regular there with a 32 oz beer stein then you weren't getting much attention from the 3 bartenders.

We ordered the nachos and were disappointed. The chicken wasn't even seasoned and the pico de gallo was scarce.

I will say that the brew was good. What we got of it anyway. Thats the only reason its getting 3 stars.

Went there with a the relatives so had 2 small children and two teens in tow. Was excited to have some great locally brewed beer but was slightly disappointed at the flight offerings. The IPA was very light and not very IPA-ish.  The porter had some depth and was enjoyable though.

Ordered the brisket sandwich which was tasteful but the french roll it was served on left something to be desired. It was soft like a hamburger bun. I would have ordered the pulled pork but an not a fan of mayo based slaw which I feel hides the taste of the pork.

I see their beers in the local stores here but really think they should step up their game at the restaurant if they're going to be called a brew pub. The craft beer game has changed and those that travel and seek out such establishments expect great things.

I would have given two stars but the kids were a little out of control so that probably took away from my experience a little.

I love BBC! They have amazing food, which you wouldn't expect from a brewpub.  So come here for lunch or dinner, it's worth it!  Also a nice bar to come to at night, they have a great patio and large bar inside.  The service here is always top notch and no one takes themselves too seriously.  The drinks are good and reasonably prices, I don't drink beer so I can't comment on that (I hear it's good though!).  They close earlier than the other bars in St Matthews and aren't really known for their bar scene, so if you actually want to talk to the people you're with or just take a break from screaming stop in here.

Great Burgers n Fries and all kinds of beer you want! Little pricey for burger but good! If you want a beer there are many different kinds to chose from. The sports guy who wants to eat and watch the game its great also.

As someone that samples brew pubs in many cities, I was very unimpressed with the beers. Tried the Pale Ale, Wheat, Belgian Ale and the Porter. Only the Belgian was noteworthy, the others were a waste of time. This was my third visit in a year and if anything, the brews have taken a step backwards.

The food (chili and wort hog wings) were very good.

I love this place.  In fact, my wedding rehearsal dinner was here and my 28th birthday party, too.  My favorite is the spinach burger with regular fries (I've never had the urge to try the garlic ones) with one of their tasty brews.  Their fish, either the sandwich or filet with fries is also outstanding.  We'll go to other of their locations sometimes, but this is our standby.  Skip the bread pudding though...it's only mediocre.

This place was absolutely kickin' on a Saturday night. I think given that the Bengals game was just finishing up, there was a lot people in the house for that. And I do think it would be a good place to watch a game--numerous TVs, game audio on, they even have the audio playing in the bathrooms so you don't miss anything. Pretty cool.

Their beer menu consisted of pretty much BBC's offerings that you can find in any liquor store with maybe two or three others. I stuck with their Wheat beer and was quite pleased. My husband had the APA and the coffee stout, which also went over well--good versions of those particular beer styles.

The menu was right up my alley. Good bar food. And I was impressed that they had so many vegetarian options so we know we can bring vegetarian friends in the future. For apps we tried the pretzel with mustard and the spinach artichoke dip. The pretzel was piping hot but good--my only suggestion is maybe also including a beer cheese option for dipping. The spinach dip was delicious, cheesy goodness, but we needed more pita, which the server did bring... However, by the time we go the extra pita, the dip had kinda hardened. Whoops!

I got the Buffalo Chicken sandwich for dinner and was quite happy with it. I was impressed that it actually was pretty spicy--most places that have "buffalo" sandwiches end up being quite mild. This one had me pleasantly surprised that they didn't wimp out on the flavor! I just wish the bun would have held up to the pleasantly messy sandwich! My husband enjoyed his pulled pork. He was impressed that it actually had some meat chunks, not just the stringy shredded pieces of meat. It seemed like it may have been hand pulled. The barbecue sauce made with their Dark Star Porter was a hit as well!

And, yes, we went all out and got dessert as well. You could have rolled me out of there when I was done. My first experience with Derby Pie was a keeper. It was covered with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and drizzled chocolate fudge and caramel. I was in love.

I had an enjoyable experience at BBC and will definitely be back. The only reason I did not give BBC 5 stars is that their beer selection didn't overly impress me--it was good but not great. Maybe a little too mainstream for a craft brewery. But I definitely liked it!

Simply my favorite place in Louisville to get a good, classic burger. There are often many ways to screw up a burger with too much condiments and whatnot, but BBC gets it right every single time. The fact that they use Kentucky Bluegrass fed cattle is even better. Keeping things local and having the local farm system thriving is what keeps Louisville weird.

What I also loved about this place is the level of commitment from the staff. This past summer I was on a special diet for health reasons and I could not have any food with iodized salts or anything containing iodine. When you look it up and see how complicated it is, you will know how much of a blessing BBC was for me. I spoke with the kitchen and management and they were extremely accommodating with me and assured me that they only used Kosher salts and that if there was anything else in my meal that used anything other than such salts, they would make me aware of it and I could change it. Thank you management.

The food though is top notch bar and grill food. The atmosphere is fun and inviting and you can watch the game from any angle in the restaurant. This is a place my wife and I keep on our list of consistent places to go and we often cheer when we know we will be enjoying a BBC meal.

    Keeping Louisville Weird!

Honestly? 2 Stars for the Beer. I think my fiance said it best: "does bud light select have too much flavor for you? We have the beer for you!" Its true - watery watery beer. We were not impressed, I'm very sorry to say.

Three to four stars for the food/service, though. Our waiter was very nice and accommodating - he even turned the fan off for me despite my recognition that the restaurant was not cold, I was just unreasonably cold. It was certainly appreciated though. Food was pretty basic, but enjoyable. We had a fun time having a few drinks (mixing their watery beer with bourbon made it much more enjoyable!) and hung out for awhile.

Overall, I wouldn't really recommend it for beer lovers - but if you are looking for a relaxing hangout with friends, I'm sure its fine (I'm also sure there are better places for that as well).

We stopped at the BBC last month while visiting friends in Louisville, and I can't really recommend the place to anyone.   It was loud and full of families which made it hard to talk with our friends.  On top of that, the food was substandard.  I ordered the Buffalo Chicken Salad - which was okay, but nothing great.  My husband had the Cajun Shrimp and Grits - which contained not only shrimp but crawfish.  The crawfish flavor was overwhelming on the dish and was baked in the grits.  None of the dish was exactly Cajun and there wasn't much spice at all to it.

I think if you're going to have a beer only then BBC fits the bill, but if you're hoping to have a good meal, I would go elsewhere.

My co-worker and I are wandering around on foot downtown on a Saturday night, trying to find a place to eat. Of course, we didn't have a reservation. BBC wins for the shortest wait (only 20 minutes!) - well, Magnolia Cafe had tons of empty tables, but do a search for them on Yelp and you'll know why we skipped them.

This is a pretty cool place. I love that they have cocktails made with beer - and if I liked beer, I might actually give one of them a try, because they look good, in theory. But I usually find that, no matter how interesting a beer sounds, I never like it. My co-worker also didn't like beer, so we went without.

I ordered the BBQ sandwich with garlic fries. The BBQ sauce they used was pretty good - it had a nice kick to it! The garlic fries were good as well - lots of chunks of garlic, which always makes me happy.

Extra points for the servers being cool with the fact that we took one of their beeper things and went for a long walk around downtown. Apparently, our walk was sliiiiightly longer than our wait (oops), but they were fine with it once we got back, and our table was still available.

I like beer.  A lot.  Wait, let me rephrase that.  "I love beer, I DO, I DO I DOOoooOOOooo" (in my best Kel impression.. y'kno.. Nickelodeon in the 90's? Anyone?)

Anyhow, a good beer is one of my favorite things ever.  My two absolute favs are #1 Guinness & #2 Newcastle and EVERY Sam Adams follow those.  So  we had some time to kill before my most amazing haircut at Todd Bauer Hair @ Blades,  my sister suggested we have some fries and a beer.  So, hearing that sweet word I was game.

Inside we sat at a booth and they have a glass wall showing the brewing apparatus.  I have no idea what that would be called, so bear with me on that.  Either way we had a really adorable server asked us what we wanted and we chatted about the beers.  I ordered one that was comparable to my beloved Guinness, unfortunately he came back very apologetic telling me they had run out.  Eek.  It was 6:30 - Happy Hour and they ran out?  Ok, so I ordered the brown nut ale (Newcastlesque).

It was deeeeelishhhh .. LOVED it!  We had our garlic fries (sure healthy fare, I know) and he was amazing at upselling the menu and getting us to order a fresh pretzel.  Now I don't like those very much, but this one was out of this world!  Piggy me couldn't stop eating it.

All in all I got to my hair appointment buzzed and full.  I still need to get a "Beer is Food" tee shirt.  If only they made one that says "Beer is Breakfast"!!

One of more lackluster brewpubs I've been too. Beer was unremarkable and hard to finish. I ordered the Rueben. I totally enjoyed how whoever prepared the sandwich decided that instead of toasting another damn slice of bread they would just put the totally burnt piece facing down so I wouldn't notice until i had a mouthful of carbon. I mean, they could have at least scraped it off with a knife...not that hard. Their housemade chips are also pretty sucky.

BBC St. Matthews is a wonderful place to drink, eat and be merry.  Over the last few years, BBC has stepped up their game immensely in the brewing department, and is putting out great and interesting brews on a regular basis.  The menu changes as well, and although they got rid of some of my favorites, the new items are fun and many oldies are still there too (can I offer you a fish sandwich?).  This is a brew pub with HIGH quality beers and great food.  The staff is super nice, and usually on point (I frequent this establishment and have NEVER had a major issue with service).  I think BBC had gotten a bad rap in the past, but I have recently reawakened many to this wonderful establishment.  Warthogs away!

I WANT to like BBC. I do. But I've tried them twice now and they still haven't gotten their sh...ummm...STUFF together enough to garner a positive review.

The atmosphere is open with hardwood and beer momentos scattered on the walls. A good place to hang out with a friend and enjoy a beer. Except for that last time during lunch hour rush, when something (one?) exploded in one of the bathrooms up front and all I could smell was industrial-strength cleaner.

The menu LOOKS fabulous. I can tell you from experience that the salmon burger is nothing special, and the rotisserie chicken is undercooked (even though 2 separate servers insisted to me that pink & bloody were perfectly fine - it was 'supposed' to look like that. Mmmmhmmm.)

And don't even get me started on their service, any bit of crowd quickly overwhelms this staff.

The positives: Their beer selection is good (thank their lucky stars). Their BBC brews aren't my thing, but luckily they've got enough local options that I'm confident I can find something interesting from the beer list. And their local marketing is fabulous, causing me to give them a second chance after the first "meh" go-round.

End of the day: BBC east end is an option when Molly Malone's is too full for comfort and you don't feel like traveling further down Frankfort. But don't expect to be thrilled. Drink more, it will help.

I don't drink beer. I was taken here with friends, and I was happy there was a full liquor license. My cocktails were great.

As for the food I tried, the menu is sectioned off to mark items that are meat free. I really wish they had put a notation for dairy free, as well. I ordered a spinach dip, and it came with an inch of cheese. No where in the description did it say anything about cheese, so this was upsetting.

Other than that, fun pub grub place. Could be extremely loud, however, so come here for the fun and not the deep conversation.

I have a solid place in my heart for the BBC.  Especially the BBC in St. Mathews.  This Louisville centric microbrewery started at this location and was my introduction to craft beer.  I love that their bar is more of a centerpiece than just cornered off against a wall.  I love all the polished wood that makes the place feel more... homey

You can sit in a booth and see the tanks used to brew all the beer for the restaurant.  Or you can sit outside and enjoy the breeze while having a pint.  There are some brews that stay on year round (I'd suggest the APA or Bourbon Barrel Stout) and a handful of rotating seasonal brews.  BBC is not a gimmick,  it is an award winning microbrewery.  If you love beer you owe it to yourself to give them a visit.

So why four stars?  Well... the food is good but not amazing.  They had a cuban press sandwich I loved but it has since been cut.  And Louisville does have a strong following of beer snobbery.  With so many choices my five star rating is reserved for the NABC.

But by all means you should visit BBC, Cumberland Brews, and a NABC establishment (just over the bridge) to make up your own mind.

I moved from Louisville about 10 years ago and BBC was a place I have missed.   So it was with great disappointment that I came back for a visit, arranged a table of 10 to visit with some old friends only to then have a really bad experience.

The food was fine and the table service was actually quite good but what earns BBC the one star was this.   Our table was set up on the East side of the dining room right along the raised stage area.   Based on the fact that there were some toys there, I assume it is BBC's position that it is OK to let kids run free, throw things, scream and yell and otherwise ruin what should have been a pleasant, casual dining experience.  The kids were throwing a rubber ball up against the wall and it landed on our table 2-3 times.   They were loud and stomping on the stage.   I have two kids myself and it absolutely appals and baffles me that parents would allow their kids to act as the multiple 3-8 year olds did last Friday at BBC.    But I equally blame BBC for seemingly allowing and even encouraging it.

If I wanted this I would have gone to Chuckie Cheese.   I may be drinking a Bud there, but at least I would know what I was getting into.

    Tsk Tsk BBC Management.

The place to go for microbrews.  Even coming here once every couple of weeks they will have a new interesting beer to try.  They have a great APA, coffee stout, and wheat.  The bartenders definitely can help you out as well depending on what you like in a beer.

The food is also pretty good with standard bar fare along with a few items that you wouldn't usually find on a bar menu.

The beer is the star at BBC, the fact that the food is pretty good is just a bonus.  Definitely a great spot for happy hour or anytime when a nice cold beer is begging to be a part of your day.

After recently moving here from Chicago, I cannot believe more people haven't reviewed this place. It has already become on of our favorite spots. Why? Let me tell you:
    1. The first time there, I got a great picture of a large man in a kilt picking his wedgie.
    2. It's the first place I ordered a Hot Brown, and still love it.
    3. Another night we happened upon their release of Absinthe for the first time.
    4. The Raspberry Mead is so smooth, you could go through 10 glasses before you realize it
    5. We can always get a table with minimal wait, even if parking is a little tough.

Also, they have a club for you to try all the beers and get your own glass mug to use when you visit. The wait staff is hit or miss. If you get one of the 2 bad waitresses, please know there at 20 other friendly ones.

There's nothing fancy or out of the ordinary here, but it's just a great beer and sandwich/burger place. Everything is well flavored, well made, and straightforward. I am still working to try a new beer each time I go... so far the summer wheat is my favorite. The Kentucky bison burger is great, as is the smoked turkey club. The fries are good as well.

We took my parents and kid sister here after they helped us move in to the new apartment. Everyone was exhausted and hungry and this satisfied. I find myself going back here when I want a casual meal with a great cold beer. I've heard Cumberland Brews is better beer wise, but I haven't gotten there yet. BBC is good enough for me!

I also haven't gone at night, but it's right by Brendan's which I do frequent and it always seems to have a good crowd so they must be doing something right.
