  Since BGR was busy I decided to drive behind the Old Keene Mill Shopping Center to Boardwalk Fresh Burgers and Fries.  Unlike BGR the week night crowd was slim to none here.  Ordered a double meat patty with all the toppings and cheese along with the boardwalk fries.  
  
  When my order was ready I immediately noticed the comparison to Five Guys as the burger was wrapped up with foil and had a similar size.  But that's where the comparison stopped as the taste resembled your typical backyard burger grilled at home.  The fries were soft with a few crispy fried goodies blended in the mix.  
  
  I have to give it up to Boardwalk for providing 10% of their daily sales to a charitable organization and offering 20% discount to military folks!
  
  Service was fast and friendly.  The cashier reminded me to keep my receipt and save $4 during my next visit.  So with this instant savings I'll definitely be back to try their funnel cake.

  I think people who like 5 guys have never had an In-N-Out burger!  That being said I was pleased with everything but the burgers here!  The chili or gravy for the fries and the fries alone would have me back.  The burgers are better at BGR, if they combined It would be the perfect burger place!

  It is really more of a 4 star meal but they get extra credit for having veggie black bean burgers that are more than some garden urgent stuff. Great fries. Nice shakes. The veggie burger was great, not as good as The Counter, but an asset to the areas vegitarians.

  Food is ok, burger is ok, but almost all bun.  Service is slow, although polite.  In general, for the prices they charge it isn't a good value.  I am in the shopping center often on Friday and Saturday nights and it is usually empty.  Pretty good indicator.  Save the money and walk around the corner to BGR or down the street to Five Guys.

  West Springfield was a restaurant no-man's land for years so I try to support new restaurants that are coming into the area. I had high hopes for Boardwalk Fries that were dashed yesterday when I went in there to pick something up for dinner.  I was waiting to get somebody's attention at the front counter (it was Sunday and a bit slow). The two managers dawdling at the front counter weren't paying me any mind but when a woman came in the door behind me to pick up an order, I was told to move aside for her and both managers got very animated and tried to help her. Considering I had been in there a couple of times previously, it was obvious they no longer want me as a customer and I am taking my business elsewhere.

  The comparison is inevitable, so let's get it out of the way: Boardwalk isn't quite Five Guys, yet.  But they're pretty dang close, and for a smaller chain that hasn't taken over Northern Virginia yet, that's something to write about.
  
  Boardwalk is probably my favorite "better burger" chain of the last year or two.  It's clean, even spartan, inside, with standard-issue tables and chairs and a nearly warm yellow glow.  Enter the line (these are fast-casual restaurants), pick your patties and toppings, and before long, lunch will be served.
  
  Two of my favorite things about Boardwalk are the fries (they're stiffer than Five Guys fries, and dip well) as well as the fact you can get milkshakes made to order here.  Two nice touches that differentiate this chain from the competition.
  
  At any rate, give it a try and see what you think.  If you close your eyes while you eat, you'll almost feel like you're at the beach.  (Not really -- but I've never associated sun and sand with good eating, anyway, so there's no room to be picky!)

  Loved the fries. Guess that's what they're known for. The burger was fine. As others have said, similar to 5 Guys although for me, I give 5 Guys the nod.

  Their burgers are pretty good.  Almost on a par with 5 Five Guys.  Store was generally clean.  Tables wobbled like crazy.  
  DO NOT order the salad unless you want rotten lettuce.  Not brown, rotten.  I should have known better than to order a salad at a burger joint.  :)
