My friend and I decided to try this out for a late dinner. Knowing that it would be crowded on a Saturday night and noticing that they take reservations with OpenTable, I made a reservation to hopefully expedite our dinner when we got there. When we arrived, there was no host around or anything. I approached a waitress who tried to direct me back outside, only to realize there was no one outside. So now my friend and I are standing in the doorway of this restaurant with two waiters who are trying to figure out where to seat us and some random hostess showed up to help us. Here's the problem I had: when I told the hostess I had reservations, without asking me or any information or looking anything up, immediately she shut me down saying they had NO reservations for the rest of the night. Then she ran off to "find her manager" who we never actually saw. Aaaaaand we're still standing in the doorway. I didn't appreciate the attitude. I wasn't trying to be difficult and I wasn't demanding of anything. I just stated I had a reservation and she made it seem like I was asking to rent out the whole place for the evening.
Finally the two waiters from before sat us a a table that was pretty much in the doorway that we had been standing in. Everyone working there seemed to be running around and it was a bit chaotic. We were supposed to have one waiter but he never came by. Another waitress kept coming by to check on THAT waiter. So she ended up taking our order instead. But our waitress was nice and attentive. Drinks were good, I had the One Love, which was presently tart. I also had the veggie patties, which were okay. A bit over seasoned in the spices. All I could taste was the seasoning and not the actual veggies inside. My friend realllllly like her curry chicken dish though.
I think this place has a cool vibe and could be fun for having a drink and listening to the live music later at night or some decent food for an earlier dinner. Overall the whole evening was a bit chaotic and I don't think it was the place for me. Maybe the waitstaff was having an off night or maybe I just went at the wrong time.
Almost felt like we were in the Caribbean for a brief moment. Great Bob Marley Memorabilia ! Very inexpensive happy hour with $3 beers and $5 appetizers. Try the jerk chicken wings, they are really tasty. They have a live reggae band that plays at 9pm and they were really good. Too bad there wasn't more people there to listen. Very cool spot and a refreshing break from the rush of the parks.
Review Source:WOW WOW WOW, so bad... I was so excited to go here, as me and the wife had been to Jamaica before, love Bob Marley, and love Jerk seasoning. We sat at the bar, and the restaurant was about 3 quarters full, but they seemed to be pretty well staffed and handling the crowd pretty well.
We had a male bartender approach us very quickly, which we appreciated, but as we had never been to the Bob Marley restaurant before, we had no idea what we wanted as we wanted to look at the menu and drink menu first.
Telling the first bartender we needed a moment was the first mistake we made. He never checked back, and about 10-15 minutes later, a female bartender who we had not previously seen came and greeted us. The wife and myself look young, so she carded us a second time, as the other bartender already had, but being in the bar business a long time myself, I have no problem with that.
After asking a question or two about the drinks and menu to which the bartender seemed annoyed, we ordered specialty frozen drinks, and an entree to split (which I know sounds cheap, but we were just going to split an appetizer, but the Jerk Chicken smelled so good, I decided to go with the entree size) Sitting at the bar I didnt think this was a big deal, but again the bartender seemed put off. Maybe not spending enough money?? I figured two 9.00 dollar drinks and a 13-14 dollar entree wasnt bad though for two people?
Anyway, fast forward 15 minutes, the food comes out, and its very forgettable. The best thing I can really say about it was there was a lot of it. Kind of a commercialized take on Jamaican BBQ, but honestly my expectations were not sky high as it was just a random Universal City Walk restaurant.
But heres the worst part. We ate and finished our drinks (which were pretty much empty when our food arrived in the first place. The female bartender disappeared, and I actually saw her leave the restaurant with her purse and jacket. Assuming to be on some kind of break, even though I NEVER had breaks in all the years I worked in restaurants. The male bartender never checked on us either, not to see if we wanted more drinks, not to see if we liked the food... nothing.
Exactly 30 minutes after she left with purse and jacket, she returned, by that point we had literally sat with empty plate and glasses in front of us for about 20 of those 30 minutes. She eventually made her way back behind the bar, and down to us, where I had my credit card sitting out, at that point for about 10 minutes. She politely and with a smile asked, "would you like your check?", to which I mustered a smile in return and said, "yes please, very much so".
I still tipped her 18 percent, which is the ABSOLUTE lowest amount I tip. Im not sure either bartender was even remotely aware of how neglected me and the wife were, and as an ex service employee, Im not one to complain as I dont want anyone to ever lose there job over a bad day.
Unfortunately for Bob Marley ATTF we did not return once while on vacation, and we never will again. Furthermore, this ended any thoughts of eating at any of the restaurants on the City Walk campus. There were too many other better and more affordable places in Orlando where we at least were acknowledged as existing.
Such a terrible experience.
