Went here this weekend. Got there earlyish. Had great service and food was not delayed in any way.  I'm vegetarian, hubby is not.  I had chole bhatura which was fantastic and served w fried bread. Veg samosas were a little different in that it wasn't completely mashed inside. He had chili chicken masala And loved every bite.  I had Paneer makhani. Next time I will ask for a little more spice.  Table condiments were delicious.  When we left it at about 6:30pm, place was completely filled.

We ordered the dinner buffet. The fried pakoras didn't taste fresh, the butter chicken gravy was too bland. Navratan Korma gravy was tasty but the vegetables tasted like they were defrosted and microwaved before being cooked. The seating area is very clean and service was prompt - they serve fresh Naans at the table even when you order the buffet.

Overall the buffet was overpriced and not that tasty.

The lunch buffet is a very good value compared to Madras Cafe.

Oh, Bombay Cafe, I love you so. With your rich red curtains and whimsical divider walls, it's breathtaking from the moment I walk in.

I tried the Tandoori Pesh-Kush, Goat Curry, Lamb Naan, Garlic Naan. I love dipping naan into curry. Yum-my!

I come here for the dinner buffets served Wednesdays and Sundays, and always leave barely able to breath, the food is that good...

Buffet includes fresh naan that the waiter will bring to your table, service is usually fairly attentive (especially for a buffet)

I usually load up on the Chicken Tikka Masala, but most of the other dishes are excellent too... spice is turned waayyy down, which might turn off some of the more hardcore Indian diners (I am sure regular dinner can be as spicy as you like)..

This review is for the Dinner buffet that is only served on Sundays and Wednesdays.
I have yet to eat a regular meal here yet.

As far as Indian buffets go, it's one of the better if not best one I've had in a long time. Sort of reminds me back when India House's buffet didn't suck before they moved to their current location.
If you're new to Indian food, or have never tried it, I suggest coming here first to see what it's all about as the buffet style service allows you to sample what you might be otherwise too scared to try. I suggest the Chicken Tika Masala which is usually on the menu

Pretty much everything that is offered here is great, except for maybe the fried pakora stuff at the beginning which is warm at best, but I've never been to one that had it hot and fresh in the first place so I won't hold it against them!

The only other sort of negative thing I can say is that the spice level is certainly toned down quite a bit, which I can understand since it IS a buffet and not everyone can handle the searing pain of a good a vindaloo.
Fortunately, the lack of spiciness does not take away from the quality and flavor of the food. The Chicken Tika Masala is especially flavorful here.

Yes, it's a bit of a drive to get to, but it's probably one of the few places to get a good Indian fix and lots of it!

Overpriced, mediocre restaurant in a run-down neighborhood. For what they charge, they should at least give you a choice of how spicy you want your food. I think they have big batches of the stuff already made up in the back, so if you want mild curry you're out of luck. I had the eggplant and it tasted of onions and overwhelming spice. I couldn't really taste the eggplant. Their rice was tasteless as well. I've been to many Indian restaurants and enjoyed them all - this was the first place that disappointed me. The atmosphere was depressing as well - not one but TWO televisions, and the sound of cell phones ringing and children running unattended. I definitely will not be back.

Another first this eve....  Review will follow....  :)

[Post-Dining Experience]  This ain't fancy-schmancy by any means.  A relatively nondescript frontage, just on the Oakland Park side of the North Fork River bordering Wilton Manors.  This definitely is not the higher-end east side, as this west end locale is a bit on the grungy side, right off busy Oakland Park Blvd. and Andrews.  Still, though, it's in a typical area where an affordable Indian cuisine joint would typically tend to roost.  Walking into Bombay Cafe, the interior is cave-like with nary any outside light peering in from beneath heavily draped windows -- red velvet, floor-to-ceiling, no less.  Really, the only natural lighting comes from the glass front door.  That's it.  Naturally, after taking a seat next to a draped window, I took a peek behind....  I suppose there's a reason for all the coverings, as the view was an un-pretty urban sight.  The place was fairly busy, I suppose, for an early Saturday evening, with a mix of native/ethnic folks, as well as some Wilton Manors' types.  (I'm part of the latter.)  A culturally and socially diverse grouping.  (Definitely seeing native Indians there is a good sign as to the authenticity of the food, I think theoretically.)  All the staff, as far as I could see, were men:  from cook, to bartender, to waiters.  (Must be a cultural thing -- maybe.)  Anyway, our front door guy (and seater) allowed us to choose a table, and (once seated, naturally) requisitely inquired of us our drink choices.  After ordering a couple of Indian imported beers, another gent brought us a basket of thinly folded crackers, along with a platter of four condiments:  a tamarind sauce, a green mint and chili sauce (which reminded me of Thai pik-tom), a pickled lime and curry spread, and a pickled red onion topping.  All condiments, along with the thin and crispy, tortilla-sized crackers, were superb in their respective rich flavors.  The basket was empty in no time, with plenty of condiments left for our meals.  (As an FYI:  For this review, I am merely reviewing the foods that I ate and not critiquing any of the cooking styles or preparations, as I have only had Indian cuisine once before in my lifetime.)  We started with a Samosa appetizer, which were small triangular pies stuffed with potatoes and peas.  By itself, it was merely fresh and very good; topped with the various condiments, it elevated the "pastries" to savory and spicy pillows of delight.  For my entree, I ordered a vegetable dish (Palak Paneer -- excuse the misspelling), which was a blended, thick cream spinach-type dish, dotted with cheese curds (much like extra firm tofu, but tastier).  This small-looking bowl of a meal was served with a hearty helping of an Indian-style white rice.  Initially, I thought the meal was awfully small for the $14.95 price tag; however, it turns out I had a full meal of leftovers to take home when all was said and done.  The Paneer was absolutely terrific in flavor!  By itself, the consistency took some getting used to; incorporated with the white rice, it was smashing!  And with more of the variety of toppings aforementioned, the whole shebang was a meal of nirvana!  At the end of a delicious and exotic meal -- which I couldn't muster the room to finish -- I asked one of the wait gents to pack it up for me to-go.  When he returned the package (along with a large helping of fresh, hot rice, to boot!), as he was about to remove the platter of condiments away, I asked if it was okay for me to get those to-go, as well.  No problem, he said.  He returned with four fully-filled containers -- as opposed to merely the remaining portions that he originally removed -- of condiments to take home.  Now, how gracious and accommodating is that?!  I was told that Wednesdays and Sundays are buffet days, where, I presume, there's an array of Indian goodies to sample.  Will definitely be back for more on buffet day or any other day...!  :D  (P.S.  I forgot to mention that I had also ordered a side of herbed Na'an bread, which also turned out to be a great accompaniment to the Paneer.  I'm hungry just thinking of that meal....)

Came for the dinner buffet.  $15 for a large buffet, which is the same price as getting a regular order of whatever (I'm partial to Chicken Tikka Masala myself).  The naan is brought fresh to your table, and the items on the buffet turn around quickly.  The aforementioned tikka masala was my favorite thing on the buffet, but they also had cilantro potatoes that were really good.

This is the best "bang for your buck" Indian I know of.  Definitely a good place to take someone who you are trying to introduce Indian food to, since they provide a wide variety of foods for a reasonable price.

Getting out of the car I was surrounded by the wonderful smells of spice.  For dinner I ordered the fish tikka masala and khurmi naan.  The fish tikka was loaded with firm, perfectly cooked fish covered in a sweet-sour red curry.  The naan was loaded with garlic, tomatoes and chilies and was the perfect paring with the fish tikka.  The wait staff was very friendly ans attentive and explained the menu items with patience since this was only the second time I have been to a traditional Indian restaurant and I had a lot of questions.  I will be back often.

When you first walk in the whole place smells amazing. The food is awesome. My friend that was with us had never had Indian before and now she is in love with it. You can choose how spicy you want it. They also have a buffet. The whole wheat bead stuffed with mashed potatoes is so good, try it!

The service isn't very good tho. We had to wave down the waiter for everything.

The best lunch buffet in Broward, hands down. The na'an bread is always cooked fresh for you table and it's always nice and quiet. Anytime I'm working around the area I try to stop in for lunch.

First off this place is filthy- I soo never want to see the kitchen! BUT the lunch buffet was awesome!! They had curry goat (my fav) and just a great selection of other dishes!! The food was great! Service umm kinda non existent, they just give you a pitcher of water and your on your own. The naan was superb! If you go shut your eyes upon entering the parking lot and restaurant and you will be fine!!!

Decided to try this place based on the high Yelp rating, and the food was pretty good. To start with, it is an interesting location, right off a major intersection, and nothing spectacular from the outside. The first impression on going in was a horrific odor from the right, where the restrooms were. It didn't seem to be either restroom, but there was a really bad smell, unfortunately. I brought it to the attention of the staff, but they didn't seem particularly bothered about it.

Then on to the food... We tried Chicken Korma, Lamb Madras and Kasmiri naan. The pre-dinner papadams were old and had no crispiness,  but the madras sauce was rich and creamy, and the lamb seemed to be high quality. The chicken in the korma wasn't quite as good, certainly some grissly chunks, and the sauce was a little more watery than ideal. That said, none of it was terrible, in fact everything was pretty good - including the service - and the naan was particularly good. There are places closer to me, and I'm not sure this is worth a long drive, but assuming they can get rid of whatever is causing the stench in the restroom area, it's worth dropping in if you're nearby and in need of a curry.

I don't get here enough!  A staff member convinced me to order from the buffet even though I was a to-go order.  Awesome suggestion!  I was able to pick a nice selection of chicken marsala, a chick pea (chana) dish, and spinach (saag) veggie dish.  It came with a nice piece of naan and they also provided me a small to-go cup for soup.

The food was fantastic, and there was plenty to share when I got back to the office.  :)

I love Indian food and this little gem in Wilton Manors is one of the best places around. Authentic, affordable and delicious. If you've never had Indian food try going on Wednesday when they do their buffet so you can try (almost) everything on their menu and decide what you like. On any other day, pretty much anything you order will be a good portion size and tasty to the last bite. Even their desserts are amazing. After several visits, this has now become my go-to when I crave Indian.

Hit-n-Miss! Went to this place after reading all the raving reviews on Yelp and Google. Ambience is typical. Not the best. Food was okay. I ordered a Vegetarian Thali ($20.95) which typically includes 2 entrees, rice, roti/nan and Dal Soup.
First all the Positives - Nan was fresh and good. the 2 entrees were delicious and good.
Negatives - Rice was dry and some portions of it were not well cooked. Dal Soup was way too watery. Papad was cold and old and was not well roasted.

If there was a better place I would go there. But if you have NO choice, this place wont kill you.

I really hate doing this but I have to downgrade my original review.  The last few visits haven't gone well.  Twice now in the past couple of months after eating there I've woken up with stomach cramps that lasted through the next day.  It would be easy to write it off to something else but the last time it effected the other 3 people that dined with me.

Also in other reviews mentioned is the amount of grizzle and bone fragments in the chicken.  I understand maybe a bite or two but it has only gotten worse.

If I go again I will stick to the vegetarian dishes.

This was the first 5 star Indian Restaurant in my vicinity, and I got REALLY excited about it when I looked at the Menu and saw that they offered Curried Goat. Honestly, I've never seen restaurant in America put Goat on the menu, so I thought to myself that must really be authentic if that's they can pull that off. So we went.

I must mention that I don't really think that - exteriorly - this is the nicest of places. And seeing as how I was taking a date, I wasn't too keen about the buffet set-up. But, we got the menus and ordered a la cart, which was daunting in variety (as is, of course, any Indian restaurant's menu).

Anyway, we ordered the Lamb Vindaloo, Curried Goat, and the Garlic Naan. All of it was savory and, for once, I was able to really distinguish between the spices that were incorporated in the curries. For someone who has become accustomed to mostly bland American food, this was one of more hedonistic meals. SO GOOD.

Not to mention the order of garlic Naan was about a block-and-a-half long. It was an ENORMOUS order. All for $30.

I will absolutely be back again!!

I have been here twice so far - once for dinner and just this afternoon for their lunch buffet. I was pleased with my dinner experience but was absolutely BLOWN  away by the lunch buffet!

They have a wonderful variety of dishes at the buffet - 2  kinds of soup, lots of veggie dishes: veg pakora, dal, aloo gobi, saag paneer, keema, etc., 2 meat dishes - chicken and goat curries plus all the authentic Indian accompaniments: raita, mint chutney, tamarind and achar.

But it doesn't stop there! After returning to our table with our heaping plates from the buffet line, we were pleasantly greeted with a sizzling plate of chicken tikka and fresh, hot naan from the kitchen on our table! Everything was so delicious. I ate myself into a food coma and couldn't have been happier than a piggy at a slop-fest! But even that didn't stop me from going back to the buffet for dessert. There were two choices - gulab jamun  and kheer. I had to get the kheer since it is my fave and it was amazing!

I had to write this review immediately after my hubby rolled me out of the restaurant! :)

Dinner last night at Bombay was indeed a pleasure.

We have tried most of the region's Indian restaurants, ordering pretty much the same dishes for a basis of comparison: Sag Paneer, Keema Mataram, and Tikka Masala. All are accompanied by naan and raita. I occasionally order anchari pickles, much to my wife's disgust...

At Bombay, all were delicious and freshly prepared, though the Tikka Masala had a "instant barbecue smoke" flavor, which for us was a turn-off.

The Garlic Naan was served fresh from the Tandoori oven, and was awesome. We swooned when the server set the generous basket on our already crowded table.

Service was uneven. We were occasionally ignored, and after our food was ordered, it came almost before we could draw our next breath!

The environment was dark, and standard Indian red. Some areas appeared threadbare, but overall the restaurant appeared clean.

We agree with other reviewers in that take-away might be a better choice.

I have been here over a dozen times, but only for the lunch buffet.  It is a good deal for lunch.  You get the full buffet spanning maybe 7-9 dishes, including two dessert options.  In addition, they provide nan and chicken tandori at the table.

The buffet does not change much, but the stand out item to me is the chicken tikka masala.  I also like the carrot pudding.   And I like the pickled onion, when combined with the nan.  While the chicken tandori looks good, I have found it too dry for my liking, but I find this is the case with this dish at most restaurants.  It is a hard dish to perfect.

I am a fan, but if you visit too much, you can grow tired of the same buffet items.

I am a fan of this place. Bottom-line I have eaten Indian food all over the nation and this place is good, fairly authentic, and actually ETHNIC in Ft Lauds which is a freaking miracle unless you are talking cuban or Italian.

I have found (on multiple sampling occasions)  that sticking to the tried and true is better at this joint. Daal, Palek Paneer, chicken tikka masala, and garlic naan are crowd pleasers.

The service could be better. Men standing around looking at tables from the bar leave a little more to be desired.

    Take-out is my favorite option.

SIDE NOTE: If you think that the food is bland you can go to the Indian mart next door and get your own ingredients and try your hand at Indian cuisine. Then you will gain an appreciation for how complex most of the dishes are.

For some reason, I was always averse to trying Indian food. A few weeks ago, my girlfriend showed up with an Indian feast for dinner and I've been thanking her ever since.

Bombay Café is my new favorite take-out joint. (They do have a dining room--but we just always happen to get the food to-go). So far, I've had the Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Rogan Josh and the Chicken Channa with Jasmine Rice. All have been super tasty and true to their spice-level (went with the medium-I'm a wimp!). Our order is always ready in less than 15 minutes.

I also heard that on Wednesday nights, they have a special buffet serving over 25 different dishes for $14.95 per person. Today is Wednesday, I just might check that out!

Showed up on Thanksgiving night.  So while we were happy to find the place open, it was quite empty. Not sure if that was due to the food or the night.
Food was not very exciting in both taste and presentation.

I am surprised to see the 4 star rating.

Three stars for now.  But a very potential 4-5 star place for me.

First things first. This was a split second decision.  We had been at meetings running through lunchtime just up the street from Bombay Cafe and were STARVING.  Indian food was farthest from my mind but someone mentioned passing it on the way to the office so we decided to shoot in and have a look.

It was lunch buffet.. but 25 minutes before the end.  Buffet is served until 3p.m.   No hope of getting fresh food at this stage but shoot for $9.95 all you can eat who the heck cares right?  Besides.  If you got the sauce who needs the meat and Indian food is all about the sauces.  I wish I could replicate them at home.

Like Vanessa mentioned, the staff are very friendly and helpful.  The decor while a little bit old and tired looking through the day will not be noticed that much in the evening.  The place is clean and the plates, silverware and set up were in top shape.

While we went to the buffet, the waiter was setting up our table with a pitcher full of iced water.  As soon as we sat down he delivered a basket of super hot and fresh buttered naan bread. I love naan bread.  This was really good and made fresh.

Next thing was a tray of sizzling tandoori chicken legs which was totally unexpected and they were really good! and not dried out like I have had here in South Florida.

I had a little of everything and really nothing stood out as being spectacular, more than likely because of the speed dining we did and that together with the lateness of the day and then again, buffet food is not made spicy the way I like my indians ;)  But there was a big selection which apparently changes daily.  Surprisingly for me, my husband's favorite was mine also.  I don't have the Indian name of the dish but it was a creamy spinach with mushrooms.  It was awesome.

For sure a place to return to to try their a la carte menu.  Great staff, great complexity of flavours in the food.  Nothing bad to say other than come early to get the fresh food.

Looking forward to going back to try some of their menu items.

I have visited this restaurant on  two wednesday evening when they serve their special buffet for dinner. And I have come to a conclusion that this is probably the best indian buffet that you can get in the Ft. Lauderdale area. When we walked in at 8 pm the place was packed - which i consider a very good sign for any ethnic restaurant.

The food was just perfect! Every curry in the buffet was differant and each one had a distinct flavor. The fried appetisers on the buffet was perfectly crunchy and the vegeterian manchurian flavored with the whole red chilli peppers was the best thing in the buffet! ( this was real spicy) The Chicken tikka masala was creamy with a very distinct smoky flavor to it. Nan bread was served on the table and it was piping hot with butter dripping out of it!!!!
Service was warm and friendly. I have not eaten on a regular night so won't comment too much on the service.
But definitely, If you are a fan of Indian food or you are someone who wants to try Indian food for the first time make sure you come to Bombay Cafe on wednesday nights. This Buffet is just too good to be missed!!!

Probably the Best Indian food you are likely to get!...................in Florida.

I consider myself a bit of a curry expert, being British, having just travelled in India, and eating/cooking Indian food several times a week. Up till now, FL and especially Fort Lauderdale had been a bit of a black hole for Indian food. I try all the restaurants but always end up disappointed, and have been settling for Udipi Cafe on N. University Drive.......until I found Bombay Cafe.

Ordered several meat and vegetable curries. All were excellent. The nan breads, are large and made in a tandoor oven.

Definitely, the best Indian in Fort Lauderdale, and probably FL.

    Highs
    - Very reasonable price
    - choice of dinner between menu-based order or buffet -- on a wednesday evening
    - flavours, in food, were well balanced

    Lows
    - buffet food was kept 'warm' using light bulbs which resulted in it being dried out
    - three tables were joined to make a makeshift bed, with a pillow, and a small TV, towards the end of seating area!!!!!
    - restrooms were very dirty and reeked of bad stench

I have been here many times for the lunch buffet and the quality of the food is consistently good.

At  under $10 it is a bargain for what you get. Freshly cooked Naan and sizzling Tandoori Chicken are brought to your table, while you select from the appetizers, main course dishes and desserts offered at the buffet.  Various types of pakoras are usually offered.  There is always a chicken and lamb dish, along with a bunch of vegetable items and curries.  There is usually two different types of desserts---if possible try the Kheer (rice pudding), it is delicious!

    Spicy and delicious!

We live in Miami Beach so don't get up to Ft. Lauderdale for dinner too often but when we do, I use it as an excuse to try a restaurant I've not been to before.  Hubby and I attended a killer sarod and sitar concert put on by the association of Performing Arts of India and thought that a late night supper of an authentic curry would be a fitting end to a fine evening.

I had seen a few reviews of Bombay cafe on another site and the three from 2009 complained of really bad service.  I came to Yelp and found more recent reviews that made the food sound great!

We were not disappointed.  We were at the restaurant on Sat. night after 9pm.  There were a few tables, it was not too busy.

As soon as we sat down, we were offered free poppadom and four accompaniments that were delicious:  tamarind, mint chutney, carrot and green mango pickle with lemon and an onion chutney.  This was free and there was a good half cup of each.

I usually order lamb vindaloo cuz i like spicy and asked our waiter what he recommended.  He said that any dish could be made mild, medium or spicy and it was up to me.  I chose the Chicken Chili Marsala, a dish I've not seen before and ordered it medium hot.

Husband got the Chicken Mekhani (butter chicken) garlic naan and an order of veggie samosa.

The samosas came out very quickly, the flavors were authentic, I even bit into a coriander seed, very nice.  The dough was perfect and flaky.  The samosas went great with the tamarind sauce and the mint chutney.

Our entrees came out pretty quick too and were delicious.  The heat on my dish was perfect.  Spicy but not so much that it blew my head off and I couldn't eat it.   It had fresh green chili as well as fresh ginger to add to the heat of the dish.  I've eaten Indian food in many cities and this was very good Indian food!  It wasn't bland and "Americanized", it was flavorful and tasted home made, just like it should.  Husband's butter chicken was spicy but also slightly sweet and a bit smoky too.  We got a cooling side order of raita that was made with cilantro and carrots, perfect for my chili chicken.  The portions were nice too, enough for both of us to eat and enough to still take home.

The waiter was helpful and attentive and when we requested containers to pack up the rest, he didn't hesitate and whisked it all off to the kitchen instead of me doing it myself.  When I got home, I found he had given me extra raita!

Our bill was about $50 and included three Kingfisher beers so the prices were reasonable and portions generous.  I'd also like to add that the rice came with the curry.  Many Indian places just gouge you and charge you for the rice on top of everything else.

My only one tiny complaint was the naan was not the thick and chewy naan I'm used to but was a bit lighter in texture.  That's it!  We both loved the food here and would make the effort to go back up there, it was that good!

On a Sunday afternoon after craving something different my boyfriend and I ended up at Bombay Cafe.

Very friendly staff was here to help us as first timers. The Food was good. The complementary Tandoori chicken and hot Nan were excellent. Also their complementary fruit punch was very tasty. The Gulab Jamun (sp?) were interesting, yet pretty good. Price of the lunch buffet was $10.95. Overall, a great Indian lunch time buffet.

Although this place is out of the way from where I live, after last night's meal I will gladly make the trek to enjoy their food. First, the service was wonderful. Our waiter was extremely kind and offered to bring out more rice if we needed it (surprisingly we didn't given that my bf usually inhales it). The prices for their food is incredibly reasonable which is a huge plus.

I ordered the Chicken Madras and it was heaven in a bowl. We also ordered the Cheese Pakoras, which I liked - but the bf wasn't too much a fan of. Although we went here for dinner, I am definitely returning to try out their lunch buffet.

I just went to the lunch buffet today.  It rates among the best Indian buffets that I have been to - in any city.  The tandoori chicken was very moist - and, they bring it to the table!  Good food, good service.

I would have given it 5 stars, but the interior is a bit drab.

    I will be going back!
