Good place to people watch right on A1A across the street from Delray Beach. 4pm starts their happy hour with 1/2 off selected drinks and apps, so go then if you can. The spinach and artichoke fondue was probably the best I have ever had and I typically order that at every restaurant I go to. Â We also ordered the lobster po boy sandwich which was easily big enough to split. It was very tasty as well, but fried, so very heavy. Probably not the best place to eat prior to heading to the beach, but maybe a day after the beach would be better. ;-)
Review Source:Very, very disappointing! Born and raised in Boston, I was looking forward to trying this place out. The clam chowder was watery and I'll be damned if there was an actual clam in the bowl. Fried clams-c'mon. These were without question the WORST fried clams that I have ever had!! They were soggy-dripping with grease-and were certainly the furthest from fresh. The only thing that was enjoyable about this place was the Boston memorabilia that they have hanging throughout. This is a very sad representation of Boston. Stay away!!
Review Source:Keep in mind, this place is getting the extra star for location alone. Â They are really awesomely located on the main strip by Delray Beach, and it's a great place to stop in and get a drink coming from the beach.
As for the booze... it's okay. Â Your standard Florida drinks are here; you've got your pina coladas, your margs, your rum punches, your daiquiris. Â Are any of them exceptional? No, but they will pass in a pinch.
BF and I are experts in conch fritters. Â We are actually CCFEs (Certified Conch Fritter Experts), and while Boston's didn't have the worst conch fritters I've had, they definitely weren't the best. Â I loved the fact that when I bit into one, I bit into a really chewy piece of conch. YUM. Â However, there was more fritter than conch, which is something we CCFEs look out for. Â
Parking in Delray always seems to be a headache, so unless you are going to actually make a DAY of it, don't bother going to Delray just to go here. Â
Another con of Boston's... it's right next to this MTV Spring Break-esqe place. Â I don't know what that place was called, but it was an obnoxiously loud tiki bar with many orange hued people dancing to some sort of trance-y-poppy horror they apparently think is music. Â
Damn kids these days and their loud music...
Disappointing! Â Boston's has been a Delray tradition for my family and me for 10 years. Â The original owners were from outside Boston (Worcester). The first floor was decorated with all kinds of Boston paraphernalia - pro team banners, replica Green Monster, police department shoulder patches, etc. Â Bar was located so that you could sit outside and be served thru windows on covered patio or inside at bar. Â Food was decent pub food with New England additions. Â It had a great casual welcoming feel (except maybe to Yankee fans). Â
Unfortunately, theses owners sold out about 6-7 years ago (to Marriott Corp). Â The blandification of Boston's was completed 2 yrs ago when it underwent a full remodel. Â It now has the same interior charm and food quality found in a chain restaurant. Â Much of the original paraphernalia was removed - including the replica Green Monster. Â The bar was moved and Denny's-style booths were installed. Â Chowder is still decent but gone are kids meals served on frisbees. Â Fish tacos were bland and first floor menu is more limited. Â If you've never been to Boston's before it will seem unassuming but also unremarkable. Â If you've been going for a while, you, like me, will be looking for someplace new.
Went there with my Husband after our day on the beach and gotta say, NOT IMPRESSED!!! We sat outdoors, so at least we had a nice view of the ocean. Â However, the food items ordered were not up to par!! I got a fish sandwhich that was really blah! Â No flavor in it whatsoever!! And the fact I got a cheap bag of cape cod kettle chips with my sandwhich - sorta not what I was expecting! Â My husband got the blackend fish and he was not that impresssed by it. Â Oh well, you win some you lose some. Â Won't probably take another trip to this place again.
Review Source:I am only giving it 4 stars for the fact i crave whole bellied clams and they have excellent ones!
I do like getting Magic Hat on draft but the price is ridiculous.
I do not like the $5 parking now thats retarded and the ATM inside gouges you at a 3.50 fee. Just saying.. it's a bitch for someone that doesn't carry much cash and breezes in normally dressed up from a business meeting.
The pros, I like sititng across from the beach and just chilling before my long trip back home.
The cons, the rip off pricing of parking and the most recent experience of pan handlers coming up to you asking for food and cigarettes. - Annoying and a bit unnerving.
I just love coming to a place where it feels like home. Â There is nothing like watching a Patriots game amongst other Bostonians (even if they lost in the playoffs ;( Â )
Even when the place was busy, our waiter Trevor was great (although, my water could have been attended to a bit more), but otherwise he was awesome at making suggestions and was really helpful when splitting the check. Â The food is a step above pub food, but I am not going there for a 5 star meal. Â I do wish their salads had more toppings/variety. Â I hate getting a salad with barely any toppings/vegetables, but Trevor did say they would add stuff if I wanted..I just wish I didnt have to be one of those girls that had to rearrange and make her own meal instead of finding a salad on there that had exactly what I wanted. but, I will be back..love it here!~
I miss your old shack like ways. Â I miss being able to sit upstairs and have a drink while looking at the ocean. However, I understand the reasoning for revamping the place. Â I came in for lunch and was greeted/served by a very friendly bartender, Meghan. Â My veggie pita pocket with chicken was delicous. Â The combo of flavors and colors and the size of the thing really did it for me. Â They have a good menu selection overall. Â I haven't been here at night in years so I can't really comment on the atmosphere. Â Boston's is always a staple on my trips to Delray.
Review Source:I've been going to Delray for years now and Boston's was a great staple lunch / sports bar sort of shack that always made it feel like I was on vacation. My latest experience, however, has me looking for a new go-to.
I was there twice during vacation due to the outstanding beach-side location. The first time, for lunch, where I had a grilled Mahi sandwich. It wasn't bad, but certainly wasn't anything to write home about. I've been told that the blackened Mahi is better, so maybe I will give it one more shot. Regardless, it was ho-hum, but wasn't really bad.
My second experience is what sort of got under my skin. I had gone to watch Monday Night Football (yes, I know I shouldn't be football-crazy during vacay, but c'mon... I need to see the 49ers trounce the Bears) and I found the service to be either uninterested or too busy to handle our table. It is nice that the tables have their own TVs, but it took me asking twice and waiting for 20 minutes before they switched the TV to MNF. The crab cake sandwich was so-so, but the long gaps between being able to get food, order drinks, get the TV to the requested channel rubbed me the wrong way.
Anyone who regularly reads my reviews can see that 1). I don't very often put a place down, especially for service and 2). Haven't rated anything this low in a long time.
I get it: some people will read this and say "Who cares about the TV channel or if the service was slow?" My point is, I have been a server and I know the stress. I just it just didn't seem like anyone particularly cared about serving us unless we initiated the contact.
Regardless, the inside is nice, there are a TON of TVs and what seems to be a good band venue and something tells me they don't need my once or twice a year business to rely on success. I'm just saying I was disappointed and we ended up going to another bar after a sandwich, a beer, and a quarter of football.
This place is great. Right on the beach. You can't get a more perfect location. And the prices are reasonable. It also doesn't hurt that it's a Boston bar so apparently they play all the Boston games. They even had a live band on a Saturday afternoon.
The food was really good. My mom had the salmon and I had the lobster special. Two whole lobsters (they each had two claws) for $21!!!! Â It came with potatoes and corn. Great deal. Can't wait to go back. Definitely worth a day trip up to Delray!
Really miss the old Bostons and the Upper deck. The last times we visited (both upstairs and downstairs) we were really disappointed. Food and service was MUCH better before Marriott bought the place. he downstairs breakfast was wonderful, now, eh not so much, we won't be back. May give Casa Luna another try though.
Upstairs dinner was overpriced and drinks were beyond watered down. get bottled beer.
This was my first time here in a few years. I ordered the lobster Poboy and my wife ordered the lobster roll. I gave my Poboy a 10! It was delicious. Had a great taste! My wife didn't enjoy the lobster roll as much. It was good but she didn't enjoy the toasted bread it came on. We also had lobster bisque. It was delicious but lacked any lobster meat.
Review Source:I've been coming here on vacation for years, and this past time I was surprised to see they'd undergone a total renovation. The layout has been improved and the viewing experience of both TVs and bands is better, but it looks sterile now and really has lost a bit of the "shack" vibe that it had. Â Perhaps, I just miss the kitschy Boston vibe it used to have, with the crowded walls of plaques, jerseys, and general Boston memorabilia.
The food is kind of whatever. Â They bill it as having a bunch of New England-y items, but those are only so-so, and the rest of the food is standard beach restaurant fare. Â Nothing is going to blow your wig back, but you probably aren't going to have a bad meal here either. Â The menu is smaller/more focused than it used to be, and the prices have risen as well.
The beer selection is a bit lacking, but I pretty much exclusively drink Yeungling in FL, so it doesn't bother me a bit. Â All in all, it's a great spot to watch Boston sports on vacation, and if you don't mind a wait it's not a bad place to sit outside and people watch. Â If I lived here, I probably wouldn't frequent the joint though.
I like to call this the place formally known as Boston's, that is now desperately trying to be the new Clevelander. The name is the same, the ownership (Delray Beach Marriott) is not. The food is the same, you know the same mediocre beach food.
The atmosphere is slightly different but most of all, the authentic Bostonian vibe is completely gone. No more Larry Bird memorabilia. No more Jim Rice plaques. No more Bobby Orr hockey sticks or Roger Clemens pictures on the walls.
I'm not even from Boston, so I were I'd really be pissed. Not that the old Bostons was so great, let's not kid ourselves here, but at least you felt like you were in actually in a bar called Boston's and it certainly knew its role.
Much like your JB's in Deerfield, Boston's is really in competition with itself. There are no other bars on the beach and 99.9% of the people who frequent this place do it because of its view, not the food. I can assure you that.
They say change is good and I understand the business model behind it, but it doesn't mean I have to like it. This place now caters to Boca yentas that resemble Magda from Something About Marry, schelpping their shih tzu around the hot ass sun.
At night or on the weekends its a different crowd, the 30-40 something and single. Â So if you want some pricey bland beach food with a great view then maybe you'll like this place. Don't say I didn't warn you though.
I have been living here for almost 4 years and a friend of mine from out of state referred me to Boston's during my first few months of living here. It is a great spot to enjoy lunch on a sunny day by the beach as you almost can see the beach from there unless you are on the top floor which is now renamed as 50cean (50 Ocean) which is fine dining but owned by the same owner of Boston's and Sandbar.
You have the option of eating outside where it is breezy (on most days) and indoors if it gets too windy or rainy (but they do have roll-able tarp windows for those kind of days to accommodate diners to enjoy their meals without having their hair blown around their faces while they try to eat.
Boston's and 50cean has both gone under major renovations in 2011-2012 and opened April 2012. It is more spacious as the bar inside has been moved from the walls to a center bar and another on the right side. The live music stage has been moved from the near entrance to the back where there was originally an upper level dining area. The whole atmosphere is more sporty with murals of home teams of Boston, Massachusetts. Â There are more televisions and they almost cover every width of the walls, always on a sports channel- a great spot to catch a game of basketball, football, baseball or hockey- depending on the season and importance of games.
Beer is the typical selection, I am not sure if they still carry Labatt Blue, as the last time before renovations- I remember they carried it. Food is almost the same as before renovations, but they definitely have downsized the menu. Probably to lessen the variety of  food on their grocery list as they just did renovations and built a new bar next door, the Sandbar, which is an outdoor tiki bar. That's understandable.
I did have mixed feelings about the renovations, but now after visiting more than 5 times since the renovation- I am liking it more and more as there are more room seating options. They have introduced a dog-friendly option at the outer dining area which is on the sidewalk. A dog menu is provided. However, the first time I went after the renovation, I did see a dog growl at some children who were waiting in line to be seated nearby. The thought of dogs potentially attacking passerbys is kinda scary... so if you have small children, warn them beforehand not to attempt to pet any dogs that may be there despite how cute they may look.
Anyway, I brought my mother and her boyfriend there yesterday during their visit here from out of state and they seemed to really enjoy Boston's for the atmosphere and the convenience of the fact it is right next to the beach and the cozy window shopping down Atlantic Avenue.
By the way.... their clam chowder is amazing.
I'll have to admit, it can be a tourist trap for those who visit the beach and get hungry after a day's fill of sun and sand..... but it is still a wonderful place to soak a bit of local color day or night.
Plus, they do have valet parking (about $5 WITH a receipt from one of Boston's restaurants, otherwise it is $10) between Boston's and Caffe Luna Rosa. You also can park on the street of A1A (if you're lucky and carrying quarters for the meters) or park in the nearby parking meter lots (which is paid with credit cards) south of Boston's.
*Smokers are only allowed to smoke outdoors- a huge plus as I hate inhaling second hand smoke indoors.
Bostons's you had me at Puppy Patio!
That handsome chap in the photos (number 17 to be exact) is my son/puppy Burton Guster. He loves it here too!
We were out for a walk on the ave and decided to check out the Puppy Patio. They have faux grass for the pups and all of the waitresses will welcome your pooch and give him/her a chance to check out the puppy menu. Guster had a Milk Bone and Water and I had the Grouper.
I have no clue how his meal was but the grouper was delicious. The bok choy was cooked perfectly.
Our next visit I had the lobster Po Boy which was tasty as well. Nothing beats bostons because it's the best restaurant facing the beach in Delray. Solid food, great service and tasty whisky and Mojitos!
Boston's definitely lives up to the good reviews/reputation. Â Every time I go, the food is great and there's never a long wait for a table (Even on Saturday afternoons) Â The soups are amazing, as are the shrimp and lobster rolls. Â They also have good beer on tap, and Reggae night is pretty decent. Â
The only reason I didn't give this place 5 stars is because they renovated it, and, yes, it is nicer inside because of it, but it just lost that beachy kind of feeling. Â Also, due to the renovation, the seating was cut in half, and the upper level is some fancy place that no casual diner would ever fathom of eating at. Â
All in all, the best seafood for sure in the Boca/Delray area.
I realize people don't like change much, but not having had the experience of visiting the "old" Boston's means my review doesn't have any comparisons. Â I don't know what I was missing from before, as before I dined here last night, I'd only walked and driven past a gazillion times.
The outdoor seating along the sidewalk is good for people-watching, and there's a "Brady Bunch" vibe as your chair sits on artificial grass. That's kind of weird, but it is much cleaner than sitting directly on the sidewalk.
I love that Boston's is dog friendly if you sit outside, and we did see a couple of pooches enjoying their time.
The menu is pretty spendy, as this place is really about location, location, location. Â We split a sandwich on luau bread -- um, YUM! Â I can see Boston's being a great spot for tourists, right across from the beach, but as a local, it's tough to spend this much dough just for location. Overall though, service was good, the restrooms were clean, the food was good, and the location is great!
The renovations were most welcome and I personally love the new look: upstairs and downstairs. Loved eating at the bar. Famished. almost ordered an artichoke dip and spinach app and a main course but that would have gotten the bar patrons thinking I am just one of those "overeaters".
Of course, I had to make my salad a "harry met sally" drama. I ordered the Chop Salad. 86 the bacon. 86 the chicken and add grilled shrimp. Dressing on the side. Eye roll please. My bartender/server just smiled - business as usual and she was great. The salad arrived just as I ordered it and it was fantastic!!
Looking forward to their Sandbar location to open next door - an outdoor spot where I will become a "camper" and plant myself on a bar stool, drink a Modelo Especial and listen to the ocean.
congrats on such a beautiful renovation - especially that upstairs.
First time back in what seems like forever. Â It's actually been so long (over a decade) that I couldn't even remember if it was the food or the service that kept me away; Â so this visit was like a "first time" all over again.
ATMOSPHERE
It's hard to beat a beach front location (well, across the street from it anyway). Â They have tables along the sidewalk and on a covered front patio. Â The inside has a couple bars and a stage area for live entertainment. Â There's a foosball table and various sports memorabilia on the walls. Â The downstairs gives off a neighborhood sports bar vibe (known as the "Beach"), while the upstairs is more of an upscale restaurant known as 50 Ocean (under a separate Yelp listing).
OUR UNBELIEVABLE WAITRESS
Took a patio table and a waitress immediately took our drink order. Â Another waitress asked to take our drink order. Â We told her we already did, but she insists thats impossible because it's her table (of course she pitched an attitude as if we did something wrong). Â A minute later one waitress is bringing our drinks and the obnoxious waitress begins questioning and reprimanding her in front of us (could you be any less professional). Â We got stuck with grumpy (luckily she ended her tirade).
DOGS
Not only are dogs welcome on the patio and sidewalk tables but they even have a dog menu (all priced in "bones" instead of dollars).
APPETIZERS
Enjoyed a "crackling calamari" with ginger sauce; different than what I am used to but in a good way. Â Also shared a "seared ahi" but it was lackluster.
ENTREES
My dad had a "gorgonzola steak salad" which he did not want to finish because it lacked flavor (the "roasted shallot dressing" was extremely bland).
I had a full rack of ribs (tender meat and awesome bourbon molasses sauce). Â The sides were not nearly as good (french fries were okay, the slaw was different to put it nicely and the corn was severely overcooked and mushy).
BOTTOMLINE
Overall I like the place but some seasoning tips for the chef and some etiquette tips for our waitress would greatly improve Boston's on the Beach.
Im not sure if this is for Bostons lower or upper deck...but they just recently renovated this location. 3 and 1/2 stars really.
The exterior includes what a once-was patio is now a closed in dining room with Floor to ceiling glass windows and a added on patio in the back that you get a refreshing 2nd floor outdoor view of the Atlantic Ocean.
The once indoor-outdoor bar is now a circular bar with blue Onyx with a light that glows through it, blue crystal accent bar chandeliers and Blue pot-lighting under the bar give a cool hip feeling reminded me of the restaurant in the Breakers. Â
I mentioned that and the waiter told me they were adding a fish tank to the end of the bar...genius! The Bathrooms are renovated too and they remind me of a beach house cottage.
I had the Crab-Lobster CAKE...as in one..but it was delicious!! Yummers! its a 6oz deep fried very lumpy flavorful crab-lobster cake..with a veggie slaw that was amazing and ate it all.
I was disappointed that there was just one :( and I ordered the Sliders as well they came 2 beef sliders with Gorgonzola cheese and sauteed onions on a bun...they were too well-cooked for sliders, ask for medium maybe it might help?
I also ordered the Tuna Salad and it was wonderful. I asked for it rare..the tuna came prepared in thin sesame seared  covered strips atop the greens with mandarin bits and field greens the Asian dressing...it was fantastic dish.
The Drinks were great I had the Cosmo and it was perfect.
Downstairs at Bostons there's a stage for Bands and there's bricks on the walls throughout.
The food isn't as good as I remembered it before.
I had the calamari and thought it was prepared nicely just not enough flavour.
I also had the cheeseburger and found it tasted like the Griddle with some cartilage bits in there too, I was not impressed but the Fries were great.
And they had craft beers on tap as well as bottled..I had the Magic Hat...really good :)
YOU can't beat the ocean views from either place...def a must see and Eat if in Delray...enjoy
This review is for the many times I've been to Boston's before they closed for their renovation. Â
I've been coming to Boston's for years and, while my dining experiences have never been Michelin 5-star quality, they haven't been completely shitty, either.
Whenever I go, I like to sit out on the front patio watching the people and cars cruise by. From many tables, you have peekaboo views of the ocean.
The drinks are cold and good. The food isn't bad, either. One of my go-to dishes is the sampler basket of fried stuff: white fish nuggets (think they called it snapper, but I'm not buying it), shrimp, conch fritters and fries. Problem is, the last time I went (in July) it looked like my beloved sampler basket was hit by the dreaded shrink ray. Of course the price remained the same while the portion got totally smaller. On top of that, they changed the fish. It used to be large pieces of batter-dipped fish, but now the small, uniform square pieces  looked like they came out of a box with a guy wearing a yellow raincoat on it.
I've tried myriad other items from their menu, but this was always my favorite -- and now they made it smaller. Such a bummer. Let's just hope they make improvements to their menu while they're renovating.
Looking for a nice place to enjoy lunch with the bestie before she leaves on vacation.
We decided to have a bar hopping day light celebration on a Monday. We had no work for the holiday so we had to make the best of it.
First stop for the day was lunch at Boston's on the Beach- Upperdeck. The view is incredible. It is located right off of Atlantic beach. The weather was perfect. Not too hot and you could feel the breeze from the ocean.
I decided to have a Miami vice to drink. "A" turned into 5 lol. It was so delicious and refreshing that I was hooked and had to have more. We ordered appetizers and a entree to share.
We ordered:
Crispy Calamari
tossed with roasted garlic, Italian pepper rings, and zucchini chips. served with basil- marinara -$11- This was okay.. Not the best that I have tried but it was good. Something different.
Maine Lobster Tacos
Twin flour tortillas, lightly fried lobster, mango slaw, Meyer lemon creme.- $15- This was okay also. A bit hard.
The food is okay. I think the view and the drinks were the ones that earned the 4 stars for this place. Plus the great company and service. Our waiter was always attentive.
Overall I would definitely come back again to enjoy a few drinks and hangout with friends!
While staying in Boca Raton, Boston's in Delray came highly recommended as the "bar to go to." So we hopped in a taxi and headed down to Delray to check it out.
When we arr rived we noticed an upstairs and downstairs patio and as it was just after 7 thought the view from the top deck would be fantastic.
While walking up the stairs another customer said, "Watch out, there's a lot of old guys up there." I snarkily replied, "My favorite," and continued on.
Turns out it was not just old guys but it was like walking into a senior citizen home. The decor was nothing like the dark and crowded bar we passed through and instead was full of geriatrics and upscale coastal decor. My friend and I quickly retreated as we had arrived and returned to the downstairs patio.
The ocean breeze on the patio was nice, the fact that we had just missed happy hour, not so much. As everyone knows, the price of a cocktail is in the inverse of your distance from the nearest body of water. Food was resaonably priced and the menu had a lot of choices.
My friend and I split the bacon wrapped scallops for an app and had the crab cake sandwich with fries. The bacon wrapped scallops were delicious. The scallops were some of the best I've had. The crab cake was softer than a traditional crab cake, but the crab was tasty and the aioli sauce on top was just right.
Our server was friendly and even was able to recommend places near by to grab a few cocktails since their band wasn't going to be on for a few hours.
We didn't end up returning for the band since we found a few other fun bars but the food was delicious, the staff was friendly and if you're looking for a nice place with a view I'm sure upstairs is great too.
You can't beat the view! The food however is sub par. We ordered the crab dip with veggie chips and it was good. We also ordered the grilled grouper and blackened mahi-mahi....I'm pretty sure I didn't order from the kids menu, but that is exactly what we received! Arrived in front of us was this massive roll containing a puny 3 inch piece of fish! What a joke! The blackened mahi-mahi was actually 'whitened'...no seasoning whatsoever! Go for drinks & view only when friends and family are in town (locals expect too much)
+++Host was friendly+++
This is where I take my folks when they come down from up north. Food has always been pretty decent. Nothing stellar, but it's fine beach grub, burgers and fries, that sort of thing. Service is usually good but we've had a doozy of a floozy waitress who wouldn't let me use her freaking pen. Weirdo.
If you're from New England, you'll love the Boston sports references and the Boston street signs everywhere. You'll also love the fact it's on the beach. A warm beach. With water way warmer than our water....blue lips, no thank you.
It's a big joint. Lots of seating. Gets very busy. Not exactly quiet. A bit of an unruly party place. Lots of fun. Peter Griffin would like it heah.
Went here one off night with another couple for happy hour. Â Of course the beer prices were right on and they do offer a few brews from Beantown, as well as tasteful decorations that will whisk you back to Yawkey Way.
The bar is located right across the street from Delray beach and they typically have a nice live band to interrupt the boozing. Â
They only had one vegetarian option on the menu which tasted worse than the napkin I had for an appetizer, so needless to say, I won't be eating here ever again.
I will be back for their prime location, cold beers, fun loving crowd and live music though, so watch out!
HEY ALL YOU PEOPLE REVIEWING THIS PLACE AND ITS FOOD....GET WITH THE PROGRAM. THE FOOD AND SERVICE HERE SUCKS!!!! Â but who goes to Bostons for the gourmet food? Â The place is on the beach in Delray... its beautiful, the breezes at night are fabulous, and when you are sitting in front of the beach in paradise, is the quality of the food that important?..... come on !!!!
I just wish I was back in DRB so I could come here again and drink a beer outside and eat some of their shitty seafood.. and when I am done sit on the beach on one of the hundred or so lounge chairs that are there for the public,....... oh man, does life get any better?
The patio outside is pleasant, but in two visits, my food has been average both times. Service has been average at best and horrible on the second visit. Considering the prices being charged, one should receive better service than you'd find at a poorly managed BW3's. Unfortunately, that's exactly how I'd describe the server on my most recent visit.
I asked for more information about the Ahi, which is described on the menu as "Five spice encrusted tuna steak over buckwheat noodles tossed in Sichuan peppercorn sambal, with wasabi caviar." The server asked what I wanted to know. I attempted to have him describe the dish, and received no usable information. When it came, I was surprised by the presentation, as it appeared more like a tuna steak soup then the dish I had anticipated. It was still good, but not at all what I expected and the server was no help.
When the bill came, I paid for a large group. After a dismissive attitude the whole meal, the server brought the receipts, opened the bill, and said fairly loudly "The gratuity is included for groups, but I want you to notice there's a blank line here where you can add more if you're feeling generous." What?!
It was actually the perfect summation for a frustrating evening of service and average food. The view is great, though.
You pay for the location the food is okay. I ordered  crabcake sandwich and fries.  My fries came out cold but my crabcake was marginal at best.  What you are really paying for is the beach view.  On a beautiful day its really spectacular as you can see from the photo i posted.  I would stick to lunch because at night you cant see anything.
dont go expecting great service or amazing food. Just go to enjoy being outside in the Florida Sun while others in the country either freeze or are trapped indoors
After hearing that Boston's was THE place to be for Delray Beach nightlife, a group of colleagues and I decided to party there one evening. Â On that particular night, there was a Grateful Dead cover band performing much too loudly. Â The weird crowd was composed of all age ranges and many patrons were sporting festive tie-die. Â Sure, I could have gotten more into the spirit of things, but I was having problems hearing a colleague that was seated directly next to me AND who was screaming into my ear at the time. Â It was frustrating to say the least. Â The beverages were very strong, and the food options were your standard fried bar grub. Â
This was definitely a no-frills dive with all of the charm of a touristy beach hangout. Â If you are looking for a place to throw back some beers and rock out, this might be for you. Â However, if you are trying to have a conversation with friends that you have not seen in months, this is a poor option.
Boston's By the Beach.
This like most places in South Florida is not on the beach. You can't walk up with the salt water dripping off of you. Â You have to cross a busy street, after you have climbed off the beach.
There is no view except from the top deck, and the street fumes are horrendous on beautiful days because of the cruisers.
It got an extra star for being "by" the beach.
We ate breakfast here one morning while in town for a wedding. Â I was surprised at how good the food was, considering the fairly run-of-the-mill and boring appearance of the place. Â I was expecting something akin to Bennigans judging by the exterior, but our breakfast was much better than all that.
I had the Back Bay omelet, an omelet prepared with gulf shrimp and fresh lump crab meat, tomatoes, and onions. Â Over top was a nice not-too-thick, not-overbearing Hollandaise. Â The grits I chose to accompany the omelet were really well-cooked, and the toast actually came out toasted! Â I'm one who likes my toast to actually be BROWN on both sides, and restaurants never seem to serve it the way I like it, sending it out barely warmed out of the bag. Â I appreciate Boston's commitment to its toast. Â
Husband ordered the crab cake Benedict, two lump crab cakes on an English muffin with two very lovely poached eggs and the aforementioned Hollandaise. Â At first the waitress brought out a plate of regular eggs Benedict with ham; when husband pointed out he had ordered the crab Benedict, she apologized profusely and insisted she bring us both complimentary glasses of their fresh squeezed juice to atone for Bostons' mistake. Â We opted for the grapefruit and were not disappointed: it tasted just like it does when you polish off your grapefruit half and then squeeze the remaining juice straight down your gullet! Â I love that...The home fries that came with the eggs Benedict were really, really good: so golden and crisp on the outside, and so soft on the inside I almost mistook them for fried plantains.
Bostons is definitely better than you'd expect from the outside, and its excellent service and prime beachfront location with outdoor seating make it worth a visit.
One of three restaurants with a beach view in Downtown Delray. Â Unfortunately, the other two are pricey. Â So if you want to be close to the beach (or you need a mid beach drink), Boston's DOWNSTAIRS (big difference) is not too shabby. Â
EATS- great bar food, fried fish, and snacks
DRINKS- stick to beer here, most of my mixed drinks aren't so hot
EXP- great service, right on the beach, ocean views, dog friendly
DAMAGE- for the beach- great
DOWNSTAIRS
*Ok bar food/Ok fried seafood (baskets, apps, and such)
*Decent dinner menu and desserts (great key lime pie)
*I would stick to beer, their faux fancy drinks aren't too hot. Â
*Reggae night is the ONLY live music night to go (or if Amber Leigh is playing). Â Often the music is loud and off-key. Â Yikes.
*B+ Lobster Roll
*A- Fresh Fish Dinners/Sandwiches
*B+ Conch Fritters
*A+++Ocean Reef Salad (I love this salad- tuna and chicken salad over a salad with flat bread and fruit) Â Very fresh considering it's a Sports Bar.
*B Burgers
*C Raw Bar
BOSTONS UPSTAIRS (new place- maybe OK now?)
*expensive with mediocre food before
Loud crowded place to drink near the ocean. Â Food sucks and crowd is mostly out of town vacationers. Â Go a few doors down to Luna Rosa and not worry if the 22 year old surfer kid is gonna spill his sex on the beach on your shoes.
If your going to beach and need a beer it is ok. Â This is not a destination and parking sucks.
Biased NYer here. Â I hate Boston sports culture. Â Shut up and stop whining. Â
This bar still sucks though. Â We didnt get IDed on our way in, which was weird because it seems like all of Delray was carding. Â We didn't see any of our party (meeting a bunch of ppl there), so we decided to head to the Tiki Bar in the back, which both the sign out front and a waiter confirmed. Â When we got out there, not only was it EMPTY, but the chairs were stacked and the bar basically inoperational. Â We went to go back in, but surprise! the door was locked. Â Good thing the yard wasn't fenced in, and we went back around to the front.....where we got carded trying to get back in.
Once inside, we went to the bar near the stage (what is it with Delray and cover bands???) to get some beer.  The bartender pretty much ignored us, probably in favor of locals (not that we screamed NY or anything, I don't think)....When the bartender asked the guy next to us what he wanted, he said to take my bf first, because he had been waiting a while.  The bartender said "Yeah, whatever, I have things to do", or something like that....then got  to us 5 min after that.  WTF?
The cover band was AWFUL except for the very-talented bass player, and the dance floor was mobbed with "Golden Girls" acting 21 - grinding, shrieking, and slamming shots. Â Very disturbing.
Avoid. Â Just......avoid.
