I'm a connoisseur of the BLT. Â Wait, no, I'm not. Â I'm just a huge fan of it and I haven't had that many different ones, and I usually just make my own. Â Sometimes I've had various club, B _ _, and other bacon sandwiches, and always wonder what's missing.
Turns out the missing ingredient is shrimp. Â
I was walking down Wells St. a little while ago wondering where I to get a sandwich on the way to my office. Â This doorway next to Old Town Brasserie had a banner in the window and a couple of tables outside, so I stopped in. Â They've got a nice choice of salads, sandwiches, quiche, prepared food and pastries, in a tiny little deli. Â
They offer a  Shrimp BLT sandwich, I ordered.  My biggest complaint with most sandwiches, and in theory a big part of the reason for the popularity of the panini, is that they're too thick.  As if every sandwich maker is on a quest to provide the most food for the lowest price... there need to be balance, and if you can't comfortably wrap your mouth around a sandwich, why not just order a meal? Back to the sandwich- nice big shrimp sliced lengthwise (this takes skill!), thin sliced avocado, perfectly toasted thinly sliced whole wheat bread, the right amount of mayo, and of course really good crispy bacon.
