Go large (w/your beer) or go elsewhere!
This is easily one of the more convenient places to stop in between pts A & B when there's some time to spare.
Speak up if you're in need of help or don't like what you're tasting and they're sure to make things right.
And they're game to cater events as well as handle larger groups. No puns implied.
Drink too much or act drunk and you'll be denied.
not a place to go for ufc. a few buddies and i went for he sole purpose of watching ufc. we walked in and it was a total biker bar vibe. i counted 12 bikes outaide. Â they sat us next to the stage while a band was performing. Â couldnt hear a word of commentating. (Management please put closed caption for events when bands/dj's are playing) . the food was average. i had the tri tip sandwich. i probably would have enjoyed it more if it wasnt as fatty. the service was the best thing about the place. im sorry i forgot your name but it was a brunette with tats on her shoulders. her service was awesome. i drink alot of water and was filled before i even asked. thank you.
after the fights they had a super young dj who i dont think was of age. anyway he had a dope music selection but dude didnt mix he just slammed one song into another. as a fellow dj PLEASE MIX!!. i mean wild for the night then hypnotize? dude there is a difference of 29 bpm. Anywho i would probably come back if i was in the neighborhood and wanted a drink on the way home.
Came by on a Sunday and we really surprised!
Food took a while to come out but it was amazing. My buddy got their nachos which were HUGE and covered with cheese and chicken! I had to help him finish them off because they were so big. I got the carnitas tacos which great, their hot sauce/salsa was just enough bite to give it some kick but not overpower the taco. With happy hour prices the bill for my buddy and I came out to $23 for four beers and two entrees.
I was also surprised because they had live music. There was a band name Monkey Finger that plays every happy hour. They play mostly classic rock covers but they were great. I would go back just to have a beer and listen.
As far as the sports goes, they have like 9-10 flat screens all over the restaurant with a bunch of different sports on. I saw a few other people ask the bartender  to change the channel to another game which I thought was kinda cool that the place was so accommodating. I hate being at a sports lounge and every game is on but the one you want to see! :) On top of that they have a HD projector which produces a picture that is like 15 feel tall onto one of the walls. It is pretty awesome to watch a game on a 15 foot screen!
I am defiantly going back to watch games there or hanging out on a Sunday for the live music. If you plan on getting their nachos bring a friend. Oh yeah, the scenery is bad either if you know what I mean ;)
Came here tonight with my husband and two boys. Kid friendly place, one tip.... Bring your appetite! We came in with the groupon for 4 ppl. The kids were passed out after the appetizers from a food coma. I think it was the owner or cook that came by to ask how everything was (big plus!). Yes, the food may take some time, but it's worth it, you can tell its freshly made! The tri tip sandwich is to die for! The carne Asada tacos, amazing! Even had a sauce that came with it, reminded me of cancun! All in all would definitely come back again!
Review Source:This review is about 2 special events I attended here.
SERVICE WAS NOT READY FOR PRIME TIME!!!!! Â And let's face it, good service makes or breaks an experience.
By the numbers:
15 minutes for EACH of us to receive our INDIVIDUAL DRINK orders. One was a bottle of pear cider! Mine was a Guinness. One was a water!!!!
30+ to receive our food. A neighboring table waited 15 minutes before a server visited their table and then another 45 minutes for the food. (No exaggeration. We were watching a hockey game.)
Practically had to slide tackle our server (Francine?) to get her attention. Â She didn't even stop back and say, "Our kitchen is backed up, it'll be a little longer than usual." Then again, she could've made a killing on adult beverage refills, but was MISSING!
Making matters worse... the owner was sitting at a table behind us entertaining his buddies. They didn't have to wait for service. The owner was popping up every five minutes and refilling their beverages from the bar.
When I finally went to ask the folks who were running the event where I could write to implore the organization to choose another location for the event, the manager suddenly flew into action (We're in the middle of the second period, so we've been there for about 90 minutes at this point. Â In other places, we're on our second or third beverage. Here, we're nursing the first because there's no guarantee the server will be back ... EVER!)
This paragon of service looked at me and asked: What can I do for you?
I responded: "How about getting my table our drinks and food in under 20 minutes? We've been waiting  15 for drinks and 30 for food.
He STUPIDLY said, "Stop yelling at me and calm down. How can I help you?"
First, there was a hockey game being watched by a roomful of rabid fans. It's called projecting, not yelling. Â
Second, I was perfectly calm. Â I wonder if this routine is reserved for female patrons.
Third, I just told you want the issue was. Were you even listening? If you were doing your job, I wouldn't have to. You'd have been walking around the place, recognizing your servers were MIA, your boss was not helping your cause, and that you needed to head to the kitchen to see where the hold up started? Â Rookie!
In a previous visit, we were treated rudely by this guy, too. He split our birthday party group when there were numerous other options.
I've sent a letter to the organization explaining why this place should be excluded from the rotation. They KNEW this event was on the books for MONTHS. They could've staffed up for it. Â I've had other friends from other tables tell me that if the event is held here again, they will not be going. They experienced the same horrific service.
Food: Quality is good. Typical bar fare. I've had better... SIGNIFICANTLY BETTER. Certainly not good enough to wait 30 - 45 minutes.
Smokers' Lounge: The smokers lounge is directly outside the bar, so if there's wind, all you smell is cigarette smoke!
EVENT: If PUCK DROPS at 5 p.m. Have it tuned to the station at 4:55 p.m. Not 2 minutes into the first! Also, if we're there to watch HOCKEY, why are other sports on? Â WHY? Your WHOLE establishment is FILLED with hockey fans ready to drop $50 each.
Had it not been a special event, we would have walked out and invested our entertainment dollars elsewhere. Â Adding insult to injury, they had the GALL to include the tip on our bills!!!!
The owner should be embarrassed, but then again, he seems to be oblivious to the needs of his paying customers.
Hold your events elsewhere!!!!
Met some friends here for some drinks. I got there about an hour and a half after they did. They had already ordered their food upon getting there. When I arrived they still had not received their food (over an hour wait) and I didn't see a waitress for at least 20 minutes. The guy who came around to bring us our food was very apologetic and offered us a round of free drinks. I have to praise them for at least trying to compensate with that, but it doesn't change the fact that we went to this bar and paid a good amount of money for food that came out cold and didn't come out for a VERY LONG TIME. I noticed that they were very under staffer for how many people were there. I am hoping they can figure out their staffing (especially when a sports game is on) so that they can better serve their customers.
Review Source:Great Place to come when theres a groupon special! $17 for 1 appetizer, and 2 entree. Thats a pretty awesome deal
Dive Bar atmosphere. Sports games are always on, which is awesome. Great place to come for great food, good deals, and a great time. There are alot of regulars that comes here often.
The Burger is DE-LISH! Yo momma Nachos is fantastic, tri-tip is perfection! no complaints in the food dept. Very generous portions! Everything on the menu, you have to try at least once! The food itself i would give it a 4 Star!
The only thing that this bar lacks is an attentive waitress. Had to wait awhile for refills on drinks, and more order on the foods. Would i come back here again? Heck Yeah, for the food and deals, a definite MUST!
Just your average, typical sports lounge that offers a full stock bar. They have about 12 different beers on tap and served in a mug or by the pitcher. Lots of TVs throughout, ideally for viewing any sport programming. Â Â
The buffalo wings were just standard frozen wings that were warmed up and tossed in buffalo sauce. They were served warm at room temperate which was hard to take down.
The meat lovers and BBQ chicken flatbread pizza was a hit. Thin crispy crust with flavorful toppings that married well. I loved the rosemary herb on the meat lovers pizza. I would defiantly have the pizza again, but do pass on the wings.
Stopped by on tuesday night for the first time and i had a blast. The ambiance is amazing definitely a place to go to watch sporting events at. Plenty of tvs and awesome food. The carne asada tacos were delicious and they had a great deal on beer for only 2$.
Had great customer service and entertainment from our lovely bartender Jess and loved the fact that the owner was there making sure everyone was having a good time.
all in all i will definitely be coming back.
nachos are amazing and huge =) portions are great.. huge flat screen TVs..i wasn't here to drink beer but it seems like a good place for it...the guy said they play all games and ufc here for free and don't charge a cover which is nice.. the burgers looked great..i enjoyed it and will return =)
Review Source:Pros: Great Food and pretty large portions. Very accomadating for kids.
The chef and owner walk around and make sure everyone is happy. Talked to them for a good 30 mins like they were old friends. Very Friendly.
Con: our waitress' shift was over before we left, but never introduced a new one to us.
Luckily the busboy and chef was more than willing to help us with refills and our orders.
Enjoyed the place and definatly will be back more often.
The little things like the the owner greeting us makes a big difference to me.
The Good
This is not your father's sports bar. Good beer selection. Food was pretty good. Service was slow.
The Bad
Service was slow. Hard to flag someone down. Our food came out really really late. If we weren't watching and pleasantly distracted by the game, I think we would have been unhappy.
Deserving of a 3 Star, but Dave (the owner) and his passion deserves a half star that rounds it up. Hopefully they are better next time we drop by.
This place used to be called the Office, I think... Â It was a place before that I probably wouldn't enter. Â The new owner came in and really made this a cool place. Â Where else can you pay $2 to try to "catch" a Maine Lobster in a tank (like those machines where the claw goes down to get a stuffy) and then they'll cook it for you if you catch it!
I had the Mexican salad and was actually surprised (in a great way) that the chicken that was on it was fresh and just then grilled. Â My husband had the BBQ chicken pizza and it was really good - nice, soft, fresh dough. Â The sauce had the perfect taste. Â The only thing I would say on the pizza is get rid of the white onion and have it be red onion.
The wings were OK. Nothing to really write home about, but the sauce was pretty good. Â
What will keep me coming back is two things... Â
1. Everything they cook there is FRESH. Â The only thing they freeze is the french fries. Â
Even the mahi mahi they bring in is filleted right there. Â
2. The owner stopped by our table to find out how we liked everything and he talked to us for about 10 minutes. Â He even offered to take us on tour of his kitchen - that means, in my mind, he's not hiding a thing! Â It was totally clean. Â
I was impressed.
I could go on about the food and other stuff that I have had there, but I won't! Â All in all, it's a great place. Â He even does groupon and living social deals, which I bought, too. Â
Check it out, I don't think you'll be disappointed!
Ok, I was looking for a place to kill some time and watch the Thursday night NFL and Lakers game. Â I saw the positive YELP reviews and the location was right. Â I was impressed upon pulling up, the exterior was fresh and in a good area (by Santa Ana standards).
The service was very good and efficient. Â The happy hour $3 dollar beers were also a plus. Â The food was of good quality, but prices were high by happy hour standards. Â $6 for 2 chicken strips, although they were high quality, but 2 orders 12 bucks (4 strips) at HH is a bit much for me.
So why 2*. Â Ok, this is supposed to be "Sports Lounge," the main screen in the place is a circa 1985 projection TV that has a burned out picture tube. Â It was basically a black and white TV. Â The other screens were mostly 20 to 25 inches and difficult to view from a distance. Â Just not good for a sports bar. Â I also had to ask to get the Lakers game put on, I'm not even a Lakers fan but it is highly unusual for a Lakers game not to be on a big screen in a Southern California sports bar.
So that all being said, Â great place to drink $3 domestics at HH. Â Just eat before you go on a night when there are no games. Â Or maybe organize a throwback night, wear your old school jerseys and check out a game in black & white on an 80s projection screen!
I went with a group just the other day. I live just down the way and I had never heard of this establishment before, so I was curious to see how it turned out. They have a good variety of beers on tap. We ordered from the appetizers. The pull-pork sliders were awesome! I wish their fries were a little better. The best dish was the nachos. It's a great neighborhood sports bar there is several flat screens and a projector. I recommend it when you want to avoid crowds/chaos and enjoy a game or two with friends.
Review Source:I purchased a Groupon for this lovely little sports bar and what a good deal indeed! The food was delicious and satisfying, reasonable prices, good location and lots of tv's.
This place would have gotten a 4 star if the waitresses would have been more attentive. I shouldn't be waiting around for appetizers and my pitcher of beer! This a sports bar dammit! Food and drinks should be plentiful!
Either way, I'll be heading back for the relaxed casual environment.
We were looking for a local pizza place and stumbled in here.  I could  definately come back here.  Great TV set up for watching sports.  We shared a pizza however, there was a long wait for the food.  I'd give it one more chance just for the wonderful sports viewing.
I originally was here in September so hopefully the food wait has improved.
We went in after work on a Group-on and we'll definately be back! Â Its close to where we work - at the Back to Natives Nursery at Santiago Park... Â
The SERVICE WAS AWESOME! Â As soon as our drinks were half empty our amazing server was back to see if we needed more.
The food was yummy. Â Very fresh. Â We had the nachos and the rosemary chicken, which we would highly recommend.
So nice to find a local place where the prices are fair, the people friendly and the food & drinks are great.
Lousy service. I came in with my softball team after our game last night to watch the Laker game. The waitress took everyone's drink order, (mine second, a glass of water) and then skipped my food order (as well as my buddy's) She brought water for everyone except me and I told her that she missed our food order. She told me she'd be right back (she had 2 waters on her tray that she brought to another table that came in AFTER we did) She came back and dropped the water off over my shoulder. Had I turned around, it would have spilled on me! I finally got to order food (just potato skins. I could have told her and she would have remembered) I then waited while everyone else at the table received and finished eating their food. I continued to wait and wait for about 25 minutes. Nothing. One of the guys at my table asked where my food was, and I was told it would be a few more minutes. I told them to send it back, that I was done waiting and was going to leave. I didn't receive an apology for any of her mistakes and just walked out. I will NEVER come back and believe me, will not endorse this place. I don't want to waste my time on crappy service, mediocre food (my buddy took my skins to go for me. I took a bite and they weren't tasty. Not horrible, I mean they tasted better than the service I received, if that means anything) and a flickering big screen. It's opening night and your big screen (covered a wall) was freezing up and flickering every 30 seconds or so. Very annoying and difficult to watch. Do yourself a favor and don't go here. Oggi's down in Tustin is a much better experience, as is Buffalo Wild Wings.
Review Source:We have been here now about 10 times, and always have a great time and great service.
For the food, the hamburgers are really juicy and good! Believe it or not I ordered the Gyro and it was one of the best I have had (and I am Greek) the pita was very fresh, the sauce was perfect, and the meat was thinly sliced and grilled perfectly! The Mac and Cheese is pretty creamy and good. The tacos 2 for $3 on Tuesdays are small but mighty. They have homemade salsa for chips and  the tacos which is good. I don't recommend the nachos though. The pizza is "homemade" tasting and fresh, but not loaded with anything on top. (still good though) The tri tip sammie is pretty good and has been ordered a few times.
Tuesday nights they have a DJ, Taco deals, and Bud light and Tecate specials!!
The chef is really nice, he comes out and talks with everyone!!!
Service is good, bartenders are good and cute =)
Much better then the food and service at OC Sports grill thats for sure!! Go see for yourself, it will be worth the visit.
I finally got a chance to try Breakaway for lunch. Â I am very happy to report that the Breakaway is a HUGE improvement over the Office. Â The decor is similar - sports bar / pub dark wood - but the place looks and smells much fresher. Â I think opening the blinds probably helped bring in some sanitizing sunshine.
The bartender was very nice and welcoming. Â I asked if she worked at the Office. Â She said she did not, however, there are a couple of bartenders that are transfers. Â I hope they are happier now that there is new management. Â The Office staff always seemed angry or depressed. Â The bartender today was very friendly and seemed happy to be there. Â The importance of the attitude and demeanor of servers can never be overrated.
Since I was here for lunch, I ordered iced tea and the tri tip sammie no bun. Â When I said I just wanted the meat from the sammie, the bartender asked if I wanted a lettuce wrap. Â I opted for the lettuce wrap, but there was no way I could pick up the sandwich to eat it. Â I cut it up and basically had a steak salad. Â The meal came with a side salad that I mixed in with the steak, lettuce, tomato, and grilled onion. Â I got a house made Italian dressing on the side. Â All in all, the food was decent if not overwhelming. Â Portion size was okay.
The ingredients were fresh. Â The bartender told me they get orders in two or three times a week and would rather run out of something than have food sitting around. Â I would rather hear they receive food orders daily but at least it seems they are trying to practice good food management.
I am already a fan of the Breakaway because it is such an improvement over the Office. Â I hope this is a successful business because it is near home and work, and I can always use a place to catch a game or have a decent lunch.
Yay i'm un-banned!!
Went to the new revamped Breakaway Sports lounge for the Anderson Silva UFC fight. Â I can't say enough how much better Dave George the new owner has made this place since the office went under! There's a new sherif in town!
So for the fight I made a reservation for 4 people, no cover fee at the door, totally awesome! Â At one point another table had taken 3 of our chairs when we went out for a smoke break, we told Dave and he handled it immediately. Â We ordered a bunch of pitchers and shared a plate of nachos, all good! Â They held a free raffle for a bunch of Tito Ortiz shwag, my buddy Yoddy at our table actually won! Â Tito sucks and is a total American flag waving dousce but still, it's fun to win free stuff.
I had a better time that night at breakaway than I EVER did at The Office! Â My only beef was that right after the final fight happened they turn the dance music up to 150% and I thought my ear drums were going to explode haha Wth
A random mid-week Bootleggers beer pairing dinner brought Bonofide, my bro, Jefferson and me to Breakaway recently, and although I believe that four stars may be overly generous for an everyday visit, the great pains the staff and management took to make this first beer dinner an awesome experience definitely earns them that magnanimous fourth Yay!
It's a freaking sports bar. Come on. Dark wooden furniture, flat panel TVs, a big bar, and what have you. Our dinner was served in a small side room sans A/C, so it was a bit stuffy but they tried their best to air out the space. Our servers were extremely efficient and the chef de cuisine and owners were kindly gracing our presence throughout the evening, so that was super fun -- made it feel more intimate and welcoming than the usual.
For a first-timers event, things went fairly smoothly. My only points to mention:
-- I respect the hell out of the chef for his efforts, but... every single course lacked basic seasoning. You need salt, my man. Particularly at a BEER dinner located at a BAR.
-- Timing is EVERYTHING at a beer pairing. You need to make sure that if you're gonna pour generously as you did, beer comes out first and foremost immediately.
-- It's super important to remind servers that a beer dinner doesn't function the same way as a normal service. Practice practice practice!
-- I understand that this is a sports bar with a limited selection of cuisine, but there has to be a little bit more of a connection between the food and the beer.
Thank you again to the staff and management of Breakaway, and to the reps from Bootleggers, for making a fantastic evening for all, and we are definitely looking forward to more great things from you all!
Server was really nice but made a terrible mistake with my check. I checked my bank statement at night and noticed that I was charged TWICE. $40.64 and $16.64 when my bill only came out to be $13.87 because we used an amazon local voucher. When I called the store, I asked the manager why this happened and he said it was "human error. everybody makes mistakes." Okay cool, if only I can use that excuse for nursing when it comes to patients.. not. He was giving me an attitude as if I were bothering HIM.
I give it one star solely because the server was nice, other than that, I regret going here. We purchased a $10 voucher, paid $13.87 which I closed it down to $18.00 including tip. $28 down the drain.. wish I could have used it somewhere else.
Food was bland. Nothing special. Might as well go to Buffalo Wild Wings.
Its the local bar. Use to be "the office" I was glad to see it change. Use to be very local orientated and not too welcoming. However, I live across the street so I can just walk there get tossed and wall home.
I checked it out on grand opening and the manger/owner was so busy hitting or hooking up with a girl that he didn't even notice the ONE bartender in the weeds. She was so busy making drinks, taking orders and running food for the bar and floor.
I'm a bartender from ny so I cut her some slack. One person can only do so much. But the guy in charge did nothing to help.
I want this place to be good but only time will tell. Food and drinks were the same as before. Its bar food, nothing great and nothing too bad. Drinks are cheap and the customer seem to be a lil younger and welcoming now with the new owner.
I'll be back. Its too damn convenient not to.
2.5 stars
i got the OC weekly deal (i think they have some living social deal going on now too), thought that we'd give this place a try.... when we pulled up in the parking lot, i think i was scared. the area and outside of the restaurant just looked... ghetto? the plaza right next to it looks newly renovated though.
anyways, they have TVs all around and it's indeed a good sports bar.. i think the majority of the patrons are guys... it's fun to cheer with (or against) other sports fan! food is better than i thought - the salsa that comes with the chips (or tacos) is spicy and addictive! go for taco Tuesdays, 2 yummy tacos for just $3!
This place is a great sports bar. Went here recently for the Clippers/Grizzly game and the whole place was energetic. Lots of regulars and staff is friendly/good looking. Didn't try the food but the beers were huge and under $6 (I think it was a 24oz stella)
DJ in the back towards the end of the night, lots of tvs, overall a great place to hang out if you are in the surrounding area.
