I had never done any swing dancing before and I showed up at 8pm for the beginners class and stayed until the last dance. The instructors are really great and during the social dance I got to learn more steps from the better dancers and try out what I had just learned. I'm telling all my friends about it!
Review Source:I attended the last two Breezy Knees dances in Belmont Shores (Long Beach) -- this past First Saturday and last night (Monday), both great events, nice turnout of dancers, beginner to advanced, .... I just had a wonderful time.
There are four principals in this enterprise: Alice, Mary, Andrew and Conrad. Alice Pye and Conrad were my two (almost-) first teachers. At 8pm they have lessons at two levels: beginner and intermediate. I, of course, always opt for the beginner class because then I get to meet the new students, they are more at my skill level and I like dancing with beginners, after all, I am only a beginner, too, perhaps an advanced-beginner, but still ..... With beginners I get to practice new steps and improvisations without any fear of making mistakes, then I get to help them, which I enjoy, ... Then, there is nothing like seeing the smile of a lady experiencing her first swing in a fast-turn dance step. Swing dancers have big smiles when they are having fun, even bigger when major mistakes are made.
I love breezy knees! I have only been here once, but man was it fun. The location is wonderful--it's really close to the beach--and the ballroom itself is small but not overcrowded. The instructors and fellow dancers are all very nice and positive people and I never got the vibe that people were better than others. All levels of dancer will enjoy dancing here on Mondays nights!
Review Source:Breezy Knees is the bomb! It is a super laid back environment that cultivates a perfect environment for everyone at all levels! People are friendly and the music is rockin! or swingin' Â ;)
Beginners can hide in the crowd (but who wants to do that?) OR feel bold enough to ask one of the advanced instructors for a dance (they are just that approachable).
More experienced dancers have the freedom to experiment new moves and be inspired by the other dancers and awesome music! Bottom line, people are there because they are passionate about dancing!
Also, its cheap and has free parking....which is a HUGE plus!
Come check it out so we can dance!
As a novice to not just lindihop, but dance in general, I can't stress how much I enjoy going to Breezy Knees. I am learning how to dance to swing music through easy-to-follow and fun lessons, led by friendly and encouraging instructors. You can tell that the people who run and maintain Breezy Knees are very passionate about what they do and their passion is infective.
The lessons are great, as is the dance itself, in which both skilled swingers and those learning, like myself, mix it up. A great place to learn, have fun and let loose.
I've danced at almost every place there is to swing dance in the greater Los Angeles area, and Breezy Knees is by far among the best in the business!
My favorite thing about Breezy Knees is that the teachers have a very fun, unique style of teaching that you won't find at other places. Â They really go out of their way to get everyone dancing immediately, and make sure everyone is comfortable and understands what they're doing. Â I've never seen teachers this selfless! Â You can really tell they love what they do. Â If you take a class here, you'll not only be able to dance by the end of your first lesson, you'll have FUN doing it!
The location is great as others have mentioned. Â It's a short walk from a ton of restaurants/bars/fun stuff to do, and also a few steps away from the beach (this would be a perfect date night guys, HINT HINT!) Â Plus, FREE PARKING in the beach parking lot across the street!
The prices are among the cheapest I've seen too, and they offer monthly passes so you can save even more. Â So awesome! Â Everyone can afford to come here.
Breezy Knees is awesome, anyone even remotely interested in swing, or any other type of dance should check it out. Â You don't need a partner either, so feel free to come alone and make a ton of new friends! Â
Make sure to check out the dance they offer every 4th Saturday of the month at the same place too!
Had an absolute blast! This was my first lesson of any kind of dance. Everyone was very welcoming. The lesson I took with Mary and Juan was very informative and super fun. They really took time to explain each step and helped us if we had any questions. The dance part started after the lessons. It was a really smooth transition. We got to pick partners and dance with whomever we wanted to. Everyone was really nice and willing to dance. Also, the music was fantastic! I will definitely take the lesson and go to the dance again.
Review Source:Whether you're a local lindy hop dancer who hasn't made it out yet, or an out of towner looking for a place to swing out on a Monday night, you need to hit up Breezy Knees.
My favorite thing about this venue is the music selection: it's always very diverse and never seems to repeat itself. The house DJs and the guest DJs they bring out have superb taste.
The floor has always been a consistently perfect amount of slidey-ness.
The classes before the dance always cast a wide net and feature fun and whimsical moves that are easily added into your social dancing tool belt.
New dancers: This is a great place to get your feet wet and start swing dancing. Most new folks I've talked to have gotten a really positive and encouraging vibe from the experienced dancers that frequent this venue - that's why they keep coming back!
And jeez it's only $5!
See you next Monday!!!
*Tip: You don't need to park on the street: the parking lot across from the venue is free at night!
Great wooden floor, sweet neighbourhood, plenty of free parking, people who share the love of their dance, and kick-ass swingin jazz of the 30s and 40s all in one, more of this is needed everywhere and they are committed to sharing in an authentic way without snobbery or a grab at ur wallet, these people just love lindyhop and believe everyone deserves to feel the exhilaration of what it means to swing the $&"/ out at least once in their lives. Do it
Review Source:I love this place! It's such a great place be!
The instructors are always well prepared but are also flexible depending on what the average abilities of the students are. This means that the group classes feel like a private lesson because the instructors are so focused and dedicated to helping each individual achieve their own personal goals in dancing.
The venue is really fun because it's very relaxed feeling. The people that dance here aren't into cliques or showing off, they are just into having the best possible time every Monday night! And they want you to come along with them! This is a perfect atmosphere for beginners!
The place is also across the street from the beach, and so close to all the fun things to do in Belmont Shore. I like to make a day out of it when I come. I'll go to the beach, then maybe do some shopping on 2nd St, then have some dinner, hit up a bar (or two) and grab a drink before coming out and dancing! This would be an amazing place to plan a date around!
The great thing about 2nd St and most businesses in Belmont Shore is that they are locally owned so you know you're supporting real American people and real American families, instead of pouring more money into the pockets of some fat cat CEO.
Anyway, come out and dance!
Breezy Knees is such a great Lindy Hop venue. Definitely my favorite. I'm there every Monday and it never fails to be super fun. Classes are great - the instructors are really helpful and approachable. I feel like I always benefit a ton when I take them. There are both beginner and intermediate/advanced lessons.
The dance (after classes) is awesome. The music is always on point, and the folks who dance here are friendly, fun and genuinely psyched to be dancing with you.
Free parking across the street at the beach parking lot after 6 pm. Short walk to 2nd street where there's lots of places to eat/drink/be merry.
Breezy Knees is my favorite place to dance in Southern California. They always provide the best music and the dancers are all so fun to be around. Â The location is right across the street from the ocean and just down the street from tons of bars/restaurants. I come out to Breezy Knees every Monday to start my week off right.
