I had met some friends there and we sat outside. The bees were crazy.

But, went back, with a little post traumatic stress since my toe was stung, and the bees were gone.

So this is a great place for inexpensive drinks. But, if I see bees, I'll stay away.

We stayed in Corpus Christi this past weekend (we don't usually stay in CC but in Port A, so we're not really familiar with the restaurants). Our hotel had a few leaflets and one was for Brewster Street Ice House, it said it had a playground and was family-friendly so we decided to check it out. It's right next door to the Whataburger baseball field and a water park, in case you have a hard time finding it.

We were pretty shocked to see how BUSY it was, the hostess explained it was graduation day for most of CC and that's why it was so busy. We found a table close to the playground so we could keep an eye on the kiddos. The playground is absolutely fantastic. You have to take a few steps down to get into the playground, but it is ginormous and there is also a small basketball court. You can stand on the top of the stairs and watch over to make sure everything is OK. Or if you're lucky you can sit next door to the playground and watch from your seat ;) Overall, the playground is a huge reason why I recommend this restaurant.

Ordering the food was kind of strange. But, we got a number and we sat and waited for the food to be delivered to us. Everyone we dealt with was really nice. Most of the food was good, the shrimp had a strange taste to it. Both my sister and I (who had shrimp) were violently ill after dinner and into the next morning. We could only put it down to the shrimp - which is one reason why my review is only 3 stars.

The atmosphere is really fun though. This looks like a great place to come if you are a local here, a big dance floor with a live band every so often.

This place is a great place to grab some drinks before a Hooks game.  They have good concerts and have a good venue to do so.  I've seen Randy Rogers, Awolnation, Spazmatics, and even Everclear there.  Good drinks as well.  Haven't tried the food so I can't comment on that.

If you have kids, they have a play area that's closed in for them to play.

I'm a regular there and will be as long as i'm in Corpus

Another great find thanks to yelp. I'm sure all the locals know about this place, but as a visitor to Corpus you would have been hard pressed to find this awesome place in a somewhat inauspicious part of town. It is right next to the stadium so it's not the other thing going on over there.

The setup of waiting in line to order food is kind of odd and when it is busy is not very obvious as to where the line starts as it runs right along the bar. But the line moves fast and the food is very good.

It is the outside bar/venue/playground that makes this place great. Sitting out there enjoying cold beer and great music is what texas is all about and this place does it right. The service was great, always checking in on us just as we needed something.

We didn't have kids but it seemed very kid friendly with a playground and a balloon guy walking around making things for the kids.

The only odd thing was signs saying that $1 would be added to any credit card transaction and $3 would be charged for anyone under the age of 21. I understand what they are trying to do, but really? Does the $3 really make enough revenue to offset the perception that it gives?

This is such a great place to hang out, eat or go out drinking.

I often visit Brewster Street for lunch.  They've got a great special for a good price.  The fried okra is great, mashed potatoes are good and the grilled chicken is okay.  I've had better grilled chicken, but this place is obviously good enough for me to keep coming back.

I've also been to their Second Saturday Piano Sing-a-long.  If you've ever been to Pete's Piano Bar in Dallas or Austin or Howl at the Moon in San Antonio or Houston, you'll know exactly what to expect.  Its fun and a great way to blow your hard earned cash.

I haven't been to Spazmatics first friday, but I've seen the Spazmatics in Austin and San Antonio and they are always a great show.

Also, if you've got kids, they have a playground for them to be entertained while you throw back a cold one.

All in all, this is a great business for people in Corpus Christi.

We came here twice for lunch while in town.  That's how much we liked it.  Day one I got "The Cuban."  It was a monumental burger with turkey and pulled pork.  A new and amazing culinary experience for me.  Day two was the Blue Plate Special for $6.99.  It had a large Chicken fried steak and choice of two sides (mashed potato and gravy and fried okra for me).  They have a very large patio with plenty of seating and a great stage.  Live music several times a week with big name acts coming through town.  Brewster Street is a great place to come and kick back at in the evening.  I will have to do some better planning and try to catch a show next time I am in Corpus.

Went with our family for a late lunch after hitting the Aquarium.  Atmosphere was what I had expected.  They have a huge deck outside and an area for concerts.  Food was quite good.  We had fried pickle spears and mushrooms which were both very tasty and very crispy.  Got a couple Blue Plate specials which were fairly cheap, and food was good.  No complaints.  Military discount were drinks for free.

Watching Sunday night  football, then was forced to watch the Obama speach.
Every girl/waitress at this bar could care less about doing their job.
DON'T GO TO THIS BAR UNLES YOU BELIEVE IN TAKING FROM THOSE THAT WORK AND GIVING T THOSE THAt DON'T.
This is a liberal democrat bar.

The service is a little different in that you have to approach the counter and place your order, then have a seat somewhere.  Also, the bar is separate from the counter, so if you want a drink from there you'll have to pay separately (if not actually eating at the bar..if that makes sense).  That said, the place is huge.  HUGE.  Thursday nights are evidently their big live music nights..I'm not big on a crowded scene so my review is for when I usually go, which is lunchtime.  I go for one thing, and that is the blackened fish tacos.  Brewster Street has the best fish tacos I've ever had, which includes Hawaii and other places one might expect to best this Corpus establishment.

This is one of those places that has a menu with everything, which means they do a lot of things OK, but nothing great.

We tried the spicy jalapeno poppers for an appetizer.  Blah.

Since the place calls itself a smokehouse, I had to try their BBQ.  The waitress explained that they raise their own cattle.  They also make their own sauce.

I had the ribs and brisket.  Ribs were OK.  I specifically asked for moist brisket.  If what I got was their moist, then I highly recommend you specially request moist, because their regular must be pretty dry.  They bring you 3 choices of their special BBQ sauces (all 3 are equally OK).  I tried their beans and fried corn on the cob for a side, both were great.

They also bake all their own cakes, pies and breads.  Let's just say the deserts make the spot.

Not bad, but think they should have a waitress, but it was good food

I had seen ads for this place and figured we would give this place a shot. I did not realize it was right next to the Hooks Ball Park.  This place was packed with people headed out to the ballgame. There was a show that night as well. We walked in and immediately got seated. To order, you have to go to the register and they bring your food to you.  Although the line was moving relativity fast, it was totally inefficient. There was plenty of waitstaff available. They could have easily taken your order. The soda machine is also in an awkward location. You have to cut through the line in order to get a refill. Ironically, there were plenty of bars to get a drink from.

I ordered the Jumbo shrimp. I am not sure where exactly these "jumbo" shrimp came from but they were far from jumbo. The green beans were good as was the garlic mashed potatoes. The shrimp platter was a bit overpriced. I have gotten bigger shrimp at Blackbeads for half the price.

Once the ballpark crowd cleared out, the service was a tad bit better. Thanks but I will not be back. If I wanted mediocre shrimp, I would have gone to Long John Silvers.

The space is large and looks like its more of a music venue that serves food and drink than a pub. We each had grilled shrimp salads. My husband enjoyed the shrimp, I thought it was just ok and we both were quite disappointed with the "salad" part of the salad. Iceberg lettuce that was wilted, one onion ring and one cherry tomato. That's not even close to what I consider a salad. :-(

Just got back from lunch.  I ordered a Buffalo Chicken Sandwich w/ fries and it not only hit the spot, but hammered it.  I've had this a few times and it's consistently awesome.  It's just the right crispy with a medium heat wing sauce.   Fries are okay, just a step or two above average.    Note; they'll throw in a few sweat potato fries into the mix.

I've ordered the blackened tilapia before and it has the same "awesomeness".  The filet was very tender and seasoned right.  It's a missing a little Cajun seasoning, but it's still pretty good.  I got this part of the Blue Plate Lunch Special, a little pricey, but a decent value.

Overall, the place has pretty good atmosphere and great food.  Price is the only thing holding this place down from a five-star rating.   $10 for a Buffalo Chicken Sandwich and fries and no drink is a little too much.  Yeah, it's awesome, but a little unreasonable.  $7 for Burger and Fries and no drink is a bit too much.

I can't speak to any of the live music as I've always been here earlier for a mellow dinner, but I enjoy it as an "upscale ice house".  I had the shrimp tacos and ordered a second plate they were so good.

Great atmosphere,  pretty good chicken fried steak and even better chicken fried chicken.  Perfect play area for the kids, playhouse with slides and basketball court pad.  A great place to hang out and relax in the outdoor area.

This find was one of the best places we went to while on vacation in Corpus. We went on a slow Wednesday so there was ample seating and we didn't have to fight crowds. The playground and basketball court kept my six year old occupied before and after dinner.

The restaurant part has a different owner than the bar part which I found weird. There is no wait service for the food, but there is for the bar. I ordered a margarita at my table and when they brought it to me they expected payment which is just a weird vibe when you expect to get one bill for food and drinks.

The food was good, I had a burger and fries. Typical bar food with a nice blend of country music on the radio. They have a stage which probably hosts some good acts.

I would definitely go back if I'm in the area.

I went here after a day of fishing since I randomly had tickets to watch the Spazmatics from Austin here.

This bar is huge and the sold was sold out with about 800 people here. Their parking lot is small and they wanted TEN dollars to park in the dirt lot. No way. 10 bucks for Corpus??? There is plenty of parking on streets around this place....

The bar is cool. The band was good. Drinks are reasonable. e.g. 3.25 for a blue moon. Cheaper than many places. I believe that Corpus must be the most overweight city in Texas....

I came here on Thursday for dinner before the Houston Dynamo vs. Laredo Heat game at Whataburger Field. If you plan on going to Whataburger Field, this is the place to eat, since it's basically caddy corner to the huge parking lot for the stadium. I don't know when the live music starts, but there was not any live music when we were there around 5PM.

I ordered a long island iced tea at the bar, which was delicious and cheap ($6.95). The bartender was extremely friendly and patient with me, explaining the process of ordering, since it was my first time there. To order food, you stand in line, pay, and the cashier gives you a number. Someone will then bring you your food. If you want to order more beverages from the bar, you can either go back to the bar yourself or ask the wait staff, since they were constantly checking on us to see if we needed anything (but not overbearing).

The restaurant had several blue plate specials available for $5.99 (not on website menu, since changes daily). If I remember correctly, you could get your choice of chicken fried steak (which I ordered - yum!), mahi mahi tuna, or a beef entree (can't remember) along with two sides - fried okra, french fries, mashed potatoes, etc. Not bad! I also saw their classic hamburgers were pretty cheap. I believe 1/3lb was only $3.99. Their crab-stuffed jalapenos were also delicious.

The women's bathroom has more than five stalls - a miracle! This is definitely something to consider, given their closeness to the stadium when the games start.

The happy hour specials are good too - see their website.

Great and cheap food, great service. If I ever return to Corpus, this is the place!

This is one of my favorite places!  They get in some great bands!  It is family friendly too, and there is a fenced playground area.  Very relaxed atmosphere.  It has an indoor seating area as well as a very large outdoor area.  It can get very hot up around the stage during the summer, as not much wind gets through right there.  Otherwise, it gets a pretty good breeze off of the water.  It is located very near the Hooks' field and virtually under the Harbor bridge.  Just a few blocks from the ship channel.  The ticket prices are reasonable and cost just what they say - without all those added extra fees that Concrete Street adds on!   We always have a good time at Brewster's!
