We love the Clam Tavern so decided to give the Broadway a try so we stopped in rather early (after 5:30) on a Friday night. I expected a typical bar crowd for a Friday night but the place was empty except for two guys at the small bar. Although empty, it was still pretty noisy from the multiple TVs at the bar. A young waitress came over shortly and told us the specials and took our drink orders. Be warned: their tap selection is very limited. She was not very attentive so we decided against an appetizer because I didn't want it arriving at the same time as our food.
My wife ordered a bacon cheeseburger, medium rare, and I ordered a special, southern style fried chicken breast over their jalapeno waffle with a side of cajun rice and waffle fries.
Shortly after ordering the restaurant suddenly got very busy (and NOISY). It appeared that there was only three waitresses with one acting as bartender. I only mention that because our waitress eventually brought our order out and never returned until we were finished. I wish she had because my wifes burger was over-cooked but we thought it was the kitchen's fault. Frankly, my fried chicken over the waffle was unimpressive. The waitress said it was boneless chicken breast so I assumed it would be a whole breast but it was four finger-like pieces of chicken. They were on the large size but, being from a southern family, they were in no way southern style. I expected something better for $16.99 and was very, very disappointed. KFC is a better value and better chicken in my opinion. The sweet potato waffle fries were good but the cajun rice was another bland disappointment. My wife reported that the burger had no real flavor and she barely ate half because it was overcooked. There was an upcharger for fries instead of chips with the burger.
Bottom line: we will not be returning. There are much better sports bars with better, cheaper food in the area. For $31 plus tip (one draft Coors Light and water included) I can get much better value. Oh yeah - after we got home I noticed that at the bottom of the receipt was marked "medium well" so it wasn't the kitchens fault after all. We should have known since she did not write down our order. I feel foolish for tipping her as much as I did. Lesson learned...
I can't believe this place wasn't even on the Yelp map! Then again, restaurants in Clifton Heights rarely do. Typically this area is not really known for great food but Broadway is a hidden gem that is totally worth visiting. Right next to The Clam Tavern, which is not only another great restaurant but its sister restaurant, Broadway is a sports bar and restaurant that offers quality food, especially their seafood items. Let's just say I've been here twice in one week and the waitress recognized me so quickly that she said "We have some specials that you probably already know about." The decor itself it really nice, especially for a sports bar and for being where it is, that you will forget that you're in Clifton Heights! Our waitress was friendly and efficient, checking with us several times to make sure we were doing OK. The first time I ordered a crab cake sandwich with cucumber wasabi sauce which was one of the best things I've tasted in a while, along with a side of chips that they make themselves (thick cut and perfectly crispy). The second time I got the western grilled chicken cutlet sandwich with bacon and cheese which was also very tasty. My friend got the Thanksgiving Roll Sandwich that had turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce with a side of sweet potato waffle fries. They also had a shaker of cinnamon sugar for those fries which was pretty sweet. Drinks are quite reasonable; my friend got a dram of Dewers for $4.50 and Coors bottles are $2 during Phillies games. I already convinced a couple friends of mine to go there and they were equally as impressed; they plan on making it their regular lunch spot. If you're ever in the area and need a good, affordable place to grab a bite, this is your go to!
