Was with out a doubt one of the best barbecue ribs I ever had. Served with steak fries that were amazing and cole slaw that was very good.( I am never sure if I should order cole slaw because so many times it's not so good.) This is a real treat. The steak fries have a gentle crisp on the outside and a very tender inside, Just terrific! The pork ribs were just the right balance of smoke and  barbecue sauce. My wife had "The Stacker" the best barbecue  sandwich she has tasted. It is mountain sized, with a generous portion of tender meat. I can't wait to take my daughter and try out the breakfast.

    Okay, here's the deal.
I could go on and on like some reviewers detailing all sorts of irrelevant information about themselves, their friends, family, motivation, and other literary stuff and not get to the food review until six paragraphs later.
    But, I won't.
Suffice it to say I had intentions on stopping here for two years and never managed to do it until today.
    Here is what I found.
Neighborhood location and atmosphere which in most cases would indicate a potential find for any foodie.
Unfortunately the food itself did not live up to my expectations.
First: The Pork Chop was excellent. Flavorful, juicy and done to perfection. A little salty, but that is what brings out the flavor.
Second: The Beans. I have no idea why I liked them. At first I wasn't sure. But the more I ate the more I decided there was something there that kept bringing me back. I even sopped up the gravy with my toast. That says something.
Third: The Coleslaw. Crisp enough but way too much apple juice flavor. I left most of it.
Fourth: The Chicken. I ordered dark meat hoping to gain more juice and flavor than white meat often offers. Not so much. The Chicken was dry and I had to douse it with BBQ sauce that was provided on the table.
Fifth: The ribs. They told me the ribs had cooked for 4 hours. I believe them. However, the ribs tasted more like what I might have delivered off my backyard grill before I learned what good BBQ was all about.
They were dry, crisp and burnt on the outside. Did not fall off the bone and no amount of BBQ sauce could save them.
I tried two and left the rest.
I wanted Cap's to be a find. What I did find was a BBQ place that had the trappings of good Q but failed to deliver where it counted. On the food.
I would go back just for the Pork Chop. Anything else, I would leave alone.

I've only been here once, and have tried bbq pork and beef, but neither were very great.  A bit overcooked.  Maybe I expected more based on reviews, but wasn't very impressed at all.  2 stars seems a little harsh, but "meh. I've experienced better", definitely says it.

I had driven by Cap's many times while driving down Hiawatha, but never stopped in. I wish I would have sooner. A friend was visiting from Chicago and was on a mission to take pictures of all the Peanut's statues in the Twin Cities. He found out there was a (huge) Charlie Brown at Cap's so we stopped in to get a picture and after smelling the place, decided to stay for some food.

It's a small, kind of homey place. Almost like someone just put a bunch of tables and chairs in their living room. The cooler that houses the side salads and various other things they bring to the table is right out in the dining room. And this presents the single problem I had here. I am telling you don't eat the side salad that comes out of that fridge. I saw the waitress put one back in there after serving it to someone who (apparently) didn't touch it, after that customers table cleared out. I was a little shocked she would do that considering it was out in full view of everyone. That's my only gripe.

I ordered the Stacker (roast BBQ pork) sandwich and it was huge and delicious. It was in fact so big that I started eating the excess pork that was overflowing from the bun with a fork and was full before I even took a bite of the sandwich! Lucky for me they have to go boxes. I practically got 3 meals out of that thing! My friend ordered the brisket sandwich and was pleased with that as well. We also got some mozz sticks for an appetizer and they were... mozz sticks. Nothing great. But that was an after thought and not what we were there for.

On a whim, I stopped in to Cap's Grille a couple of months ago when I had time to kill in the South Minneapolis vicinity, and ho dang, am I glad that I did!

Cap's is a cute little place by the light rail tracks, and I'd wondered about it for years.  I never made it there when I lived in the area, so when the opportunity presented itself to go for brunch, I was all over it.

Interior decor is kind of kitschy but cute - not overwhelming.  It definitely looks like a greasy spoon diner, though I guess they are known for their BBQ, and not necessarily their breakfast.  Since it was a gorgeous day, I decided to sit on the patio.  Service was ok - a gaggle of teenage girls that give the impression of this being their first summer job.  It was a bit lacking at times, but the rest of the experience more than made up for it.

The patio was bright and sunny, and I was able to sit and read during my meal for about an hour and a half without feeling like I was hogging up a table that someone else wanted.  It filled up while I was eating, but more people sat inside, so it was nice to not feel rushed.

Food.  OMG the food.  Breakfast skillets arrive at your table in a skillet.  I had the farmer breakfast option - something like two eggs, toast, bacon, potatoes, all for around eight bucks.  I've had similar breakfasts elsewhere in town that cost more and weren't as good - this was the. best. breakfast.  Bacon was perfectly crispy, eggs were light and fluffy, and the hashbrowns...I don't even like hashbrowns, and these were amazing!

A friendly gent was ringing people up at the front counter.  He asked how everyone's meal was in turn, and was genuinely interested to know how everything was.  He thanked you and asked you to come again if you had a good experience, and asked what could be done differently if you had a bad one.

Long story short, I can't wait to go back!

Great BBQ all round. I've definitely had better ribs, but these are more than sufficient. My mouth is watering thinking about their pulled pork "sandwich", Louisiana-style (coleslaw on top). Don't think about picking it up--you'll have to eat your way to the bottom bun.

They also have a picnic deal. Park on the street, grab your picnic for four ($32 I think) and walk over to Minnehaha Falls.

Great food. Friendly service. Awesome location. And the breakfast? Holy crap, it's to die for.

My only teeny tiny little complaint.... No beer. It's a barbeque joint. Seems like they'd make a killing if they served beer/wine. Just saying.

The ribs are good and the Stacker is very tasty as well (and a bargain for the amount of tender pulled pork you get - see photo). If it is weekend takeout, I usually split pork, or pork and beef, ribs and a TN style Stacker with my wife. If I'm just on a lunch jaunt from work, just the Stacker (TN style) and leftovers to take home. My friends add shredded cheddar to the Stacker for even more outrageousness. I do want to try breakfast sometime as the menu looks good.

Still trying to find a great BBQ joint in town and I was hoping Cap's Grille would be it, but unfortunately it wasn't for me. Another strike out. My pulled pork stacker was okay, but nothing special. The sauce isn't bad, but the meat didn't have enough flavor or moistness except for the very middle pieces in the pile. The coleslaw that came with it was mediocre. The baked beans were good though. My wife tried the brisket, which was really dry and had no flavor at all. On the plus side the service was great, there was no wait for a table and little wait for the food to come out even with it being busy inside. Also, for the price, the portion sizes were huge.

I've always wondered about this place, I've read the reviews but never known anyone that has actually eaten here.

When we came inside, the person at the register looked at us and said they were in a transition (time) period and that we could have a seat.  They are actually only open until 8 now and after Memorial Weekend they will be open until 9.

This place is known for their pork chops but our server has never had them.  Our server recommended the Stacker but I ordered the chicken, chops and ribs that I had no intention of eating but 1/3 of it so I asked for a to go box with my meal.    I couldn't decide on my two sides so I had our server pick and she picked the slaw and wedges  for sides.  The meal also came with Texas toast.

I wasn't big on the Texas Toast, not toasted enough.  It was slightly toasted thick bread with butter...swing and a miss.

The slaw was ok, a bit too wet for me.  The potato wedges were good but nothing "out of the box," they were potato wedges.

Now for the meat of the review :)

The Chops were very good, nice smokey flavor with a touch of BBQ.  They were nice and tender and the BBQ sauce added a little kick.  The ribs and chicken were also very good, with a wonderful "pit" smokiness taste.  There was BBQ sauce at each table (except ours) and I didn't even look for it.  About 1/2 way though our server asked if we wanted ketchup or BBQ sauce (neither the ribs nor the chicken had sauce on them) and I said "sure."  The sauce wasn't like any other I've had.  It didn't have a spicy kick like some and wasn't packed with tomato paste like others.  It had more of a vinegar taste but nothing to overpowering and tangy.

They have lots of outside seating and they are right on the light rail.

Will I be back?  You betcha!

I wish I could give this place an extra half star because of the friendliness of the owner and the service but I can not so it has to be a three star for now.

This was my first time and my friend suggested it raving about their breakfasts.  A short wait when we arrived is always a good sign.  Someone, who I assumed was the owner, was very nice and chatted with people as they came in, asking them if they lived in the area, etc. which is not seen much in today's world.  Kudos to you owner if you read this!

Once seated, we were served promptly, brought coffees and waters, and ordered.  Our food came SO fast, it was unbelievable.  I ordered Eggs Benedict and he ordered the Cajun Breakfast.  The hash browns were good, the ham was real ham, like off the bone ham and big thick pieces.  Who does that?  It was really good.  The downside----The Hollandaise sauce...I was so disappointed because this could have gone down as one of my fave eggs benedict places had the hollandaise sauce been homemade.  I like my HS light yellow, thinner, perhaps with a hint of lemon.  This was the darker, almost yellow/orange color and it was thicker.  I realize its my taste as I saw several other patrons enjoying the sauce but  for me, it was not good.

My friend also did not like the sauce at all, so much that he barely ate any of his Cajun breakfast.  He also said the side of Andouille sausage was not good but I think that he was just turned off by the whole meal in general at this point.  I am sure the sausage is probably fine.

I really want to come back and try their BBQ which smelled really yummy and I will.  The bad HS will not keep me away.  The server was prompt, efficient, and kept refills on our water and coffee;  Food was served fast and hot and I will be back to try something without HS.

I went yesterday after I just left the bookstore. I really had to use the bathroom. It's about 5:00, so I thought a light snack would do. The soup was chicken wild rice, it was pretty good and loaded with chicken. I was hoping for a clam chowder on Friday. The coleslaw is homemade, loaded with poppy seeds, not my taste. I would have gotten a fish sandwich, but they don't have it. Just broiled salmon. I was shocked that there is no fried food here. It makes sense with BBQ, right? I thought 2 items, that weren't main dishes didn't constitute a real review, so I went back today for breakfast. This menu is impressive, and the omelettes are great. I got the featured spinach omelette. It had ham in it, so I subbed mushrooms, topped with cheddar and salsa. I like a spinach omelette to feel healthy so I didn't want any salsa, but forgot to leave it off. This combo tasted great. Hash browns are the white middle type, so I saved on those carbs. You really have to hunt for non meat items, but it's not impossible.
My server, Paige was very attentive, and helpful. Servers are very young here, but take care of you good. Lent officially starts for the Orthodox on Monday, so I look forward to coming back for BBQ in April. I found the restaurant itself interesting, it's like it's just the right size for what it is. I'm really impressed with the parking lot. Lots of spaces, not tiny, and angled just right so you aren't  blocking other car doors. What I thought was this hidden gem, opened in 1988, the year I arrived in MN, and everybody knew about it but me. Grille didn't mean bar after all, duh.

Very cute little restaurant - beans and french fries are very good as sides.

I had the beef ribs one time when I ate here and they were tough and it was hard to get the  meat off the bone. The next time I ate here I had the pulled pork sandwich - which is HUGE and easily can serve as two meals. It is tasty as far as pulled pork goes. They are known for their bbq'd pork chop, which truly is amazing. Very juicy, perfectly seasoned, goes really well with their house bbq sauce.

Stick with the Pork chop if you go here - beans and fries. I see lots of people eating here for their weekend breakfasts but have not tried that yet. Next on the list!

Cap's is not amazing but it is solid and convenient.  I've found that it depends on what you get.  I like the Bootlegger brisket sandwich.  That is something that seems to be dependable every time.  The Stacker pulled-pork sandwich is a heckuva deal because it's like 8 pounds of pork but it's super sloppy and just too much food for one person, really.
The sides are pretty good: onion rings and fries are pleasant and in good quantity.  The salads are fresh and delicious.  The beans are OK but they give them to you in a little tiny bowl and it just doesn't amount to much.  The baked potatoes are good but they only serve them after 5pm, I think.
Biggest complaint: the pork ribs.  There's just not much meat on them, and what's there seems to be so cooked through that it's beyond help.  I like their sauce, but the ribs are just dry and spare.
Friendly folks and a comfortable atmosphere greet guests at Cap's.  It's a likable place and the first few times I was thrilled with this little neighborhood spot.  After a few trips the cracks appear a little bit though.  Nevertheless, stop by if you're in the area or step off the LRT and give em a try.  I hear the breakfast has merit.

I've lived near Cap's since it opened and since trying it years ago it's been a staple. You can't get better BBQ in the Twin Cities and the people are downright friendly! Great for take-out, but if you have time stop in and sit a spell. The atmosphere is just tops and you can't beat the endearingly kitschy decor!

BTW...It;s CAPP'S Grille  -Live nearby... Wafts of smoking meat (they have their own smoke-house) usuallty brings dreams and memories of their smokey creations.  Breakfast - Sat / Sund only are worth the trip.  Usually order the (award winning) smoked pork chop with breakfast - Huge portions for little $$.
Love their ribs.  Not akin to Southern BBQ, but very good.  Somewhat better than Rudolph's, but cheaper. Served with extra (very good) HOT or regular BBQ aauceWhat most draws me are the two signiture 'Stacker'sandwiches...especially "The Tennessee" !!!  Smokey pulled pork stacked HIGH on a big Kaiser bun...with scoop of coleslaw atop. M-M-M.  Always with the terric  beaked beans side!    Not a big fan of the salads...just o.k.  The great thing about this sandwich; It will allow another two meals. Be sure to split it with 2-3 others if you don't want a doggy bag.
Great location for anyone staying in DT Mpls.  Take the light-rail from DT to the 50th St rail staion... Viola'. It right there.  If seasonal, take a walk accross Hiawatha Ave for a walk around Minnehaha Falls Park.  Stunningly beautiful.  Your light rail ticket is good for travel in any direction for 2.5 hours... so one fare will get you to your meal.. AND the park, too.
Small - very casual - friendly service...  Be sure to ask about dessert coblers... Usually a few varieties.  Especially like the peach cobbler and mixed berry, too.  Ice cream melting on the hot cobbler is a no-brainer.
Sandwiches under $10 - Rib and combo meals under $15.  Huge portions / great prices.

Despite the positive reviews on Yelp, I was still pleasantly surprised by Cap's. The pork chop was juicy and very smoky, with lots of flavor. The pulled pork "stacker" sandwich is huge and also delicious. My wife and I probably could have split it. Got the chicken tenders appetizer for our preschoolers and ended up sneaking a few bites because they were delicious too.

Only drawbacks are that they don't serve alcohol, and they don't have a kids menu.

p.s. The stacker left-overs from this visit fed my wife and I, plus my parents, for lunch later.  For like $9 or whatever, that's a lot of (good) pulled pork!!!

It was father's day when I went so they were VERY busy. When my chicken and ribs finally came to the table the chicken and ribs were so tough that I couldn't even bite through it and the chicken was cold in the middle. I have never had to ask for my money back at a restaurant - ever, but I did on this occasion. To their benefit, they were very apologetic and comped the entire bill. I'm sure it was a fluke, but I'm not going there again.

Really awesome food-didn't have the best service. I did go on Mother's Day, so I wasn't in surprise that it was busy thus slower service just due to demand, but our waitress made the experience not the best. She wasn't attentive of the group of people I was with which I'm usually not one to care, but there were several tables that she was serving at that came after us and she got orders from them before us which in the process made it too late for my table to order breakfast by like 5 min which was really disappointing, cause it looked delicious and I really wanted to try it, especially because we were there with plenty of enough time to order breakfast. It just kind of soiled the whole experience-if the food wasn't so awesome, I wouldn't be returning. But the taco salad with chicken I had was excellent-by far the best quality and taste of meat I've ever had from a restaurant. Yum yum! So I will be returning-only when it's not busy.

This was the best Light Rail Lunch I've had.  My first time out, I had to get a combo to try multiple things.  I have another meal in my car now from the leftovers.

The pork chop was great, the chicken and ribs were good, the beans were pretty good, and the coleslaw was OK (thinking back, pepper would have elevated the coleslaw if I had added it).

They need to offer sweet tea, and it would be like being back in Atlanta having BBQ (if you haven't been there in a while to compare it to).

The sandwiches were what I can only call "stupid-huge".  More than a couple people had a whole sandwich left after eating their lunch for 45 minutes.  Onion rings were good (at least the one that I tasted was)

All in all, a damn fine BBQ meal.

Caps is a low-key restaurant with fantastic home-cooked meals. They are famous for their pork chops and it's east to get to from the 50th Street/Minnihaha lightrail stop. You can see it from the train!

The service is very friendly and helpful in picking out the best meal for you and your family. The food is in perfect portions to fill you up! I got a single pork chop (that's all you need if you have a decent appetite!) with seasoned fries (yummy! makes McDonald's fries seem dull!) and coleslaw. The meat is well seasoned, but there's more sauce on the table if you  need it. They also serve ribs, homemade baked beans and hot cobblers with ice cream!

It's not the swankiest place in town, but homey feeling. The food is too great to pass by!

Cap's has been great both times I've visited.  Friendly service, great food and large portions for the price.  We showed up right before closing time, which seemed early for a weekend evening, but they welcomed us and served us anyway.  We'll be back!

Best pork chops ever! And who doesn't like a well cooked piece of white meat melting in your mouth with juices gushing.  (yes.  that was totally necessary)

I was told that I couldn't leave Twin Cities without trying out this place and it was quite the experience.  A family owned business that are justifiably proud of what they put out and treat you like you're family.  Came here for breakfast but I couldn't pass up the chance to eat one of their chops.

It was cooked perfectly and wasn't too dry or too chewy.  It was a huge cut of pork basted in their delightful BBQ sauce.  I got fries and a salad for sides (both delicious and plentiful in portion size) and with two pieces of fresh toasted slices of toast.  It was amazing.

I was told that they also put their chops in their hamburgers.  Oh man,  I can only imagine.

You MUST try this place out.

Nice family run BBQ place which has a great location next to the LRT station. Like a few of the other reviewers I first came here when I didn't fancy walking to St Paul to join the long line for the Sea Salt Eatery.

The pulled pork Stacker is superb sometimes it needs a bit more seasoning but it's as good as everyone says. You must have it Tennessee style which is a dollop of slaw on top of the pork. Sounds gross but it really works, it gives your taste buds a break from the pork overload.  It''s also a steal at $8.

The rest of the menu is so-so. The ribs are a little dry and the chicken and pork chops were only OK. The sauce is a little mild for my taste but I suspect that's how their customers like it.

The customer service has always been friendly and I love the huge Charlie Brown statue and old Minnesota pictures that are scatted around the restaurant.

Not a huge BBQ fan, but Caps is great. Right off the light rail so an easy stop for out-of-towners looking for something besides the M.O.A. food courts and the downtown madness. Portions are huge, so if you're someone who shares a lot, you can save some money. Otherwise, good chance you'll go home with some leftovers (and you'll WANT the leftovers.) Service is just fine; not a big place so not hard to get someone's attention if you need to. Outdoor seating when the weather is nice and even if it's a bit hot the backside of the patio is a wall of trees on a steep hill, so perfectly shaded. Should mention breakfast, too, which was the first time we ate there. Very tasty!

Great neighborhood place for BBQ and breakfast.  It is great to have the choice and know either will be great.  Two tips I learned from my last visit:  Always order the fries with the sandwich (beans were nothing special) and try the cheeseburgers.  I will next time after the rave reviews at my table.

I've eaten here a couple of times as it's right on the Light Rail at the 50th Street Station stop (which makes it super convenient!) I've been for breakfast and lunch, and both times, I was extremely pleased.

On my most recent visit, I tried the "Stacker" - a pulled-pork masterpiece. The meat is smoked and then oven roasted for six hours and includes Caps spices and seasoning. It comes topped with Cap's BBQ sauce which was delicious (of course, I added more throughout the meal).

I decided to get my sandwich "Tennessee" style, which included a heaping mound of Caps' coleslaw. This did not sound all that great to me, but our waitress strongly encouraged it. One word: Amazing. Amazing. Amazing. Amazing. Well, you get the idea. :)

I honestly don't even remember if my meal came with anything else. The sandwich serving was so huge, I had leftovers for two additional meals. If you don't try anything else, you have to try this!

The flavorful food, large portion size and quaint atmosphere make this place a great find. Be warned though, that quaint atmosphere comes with a cost: there is oftentimes a wait to be seated at key times, though it's not too bad. We had a group of 6 at about noon and were seated within 15 minutes.

Final word: I'm adding Caps to my list of favorites, and I'm not alone; they've received a variety of awards. Just be sure to bring your appetite when you go. :)

I've just come from Caps Grill for the fourth time. On the way home I said to my husband, "I don't really need to go there again, ever." We've been twice for dinner and twice for breakfast. Caps is mediocre barbecue at best. I hate to say any of this because it's a family owned joint and you have that feel while there. Service is kind of like being at home (casual and comfortable). The food, however, just doesn't do it for me, especially at the price point. For a half rack of ribs w/ two sides it's $15. Fine if it's good, but the coleslaw has too much dressing on it, the baked beans are nothing special and they serve Texas toast instead of corn bread muffins. I gotta have corn bread with rib dinner, just saying. The ribs are just okay. They're pork ribs served dry with sauce on the table. Overall, just not that delicious.

Average at best.  The BBQ is nothing great either.  the place is clean, but the hours of operation leave a lot to be desired.  This place could be super super cool given its location next to LRT stop.  Hey, they have been in business for over 13 years, so their food is fine....nothing special, but fine.

I was working on a house with a friend of mine in the area, and we got tired of brown bagging (or, more often Super America bagging) our lunches, so we started coming here.  Conveniently located almost inside the 50th St train stop, but not a huge seating area to work with, so come before or after meal rushes.  I also love the old photos of Mpls lakes on the walls.  Service was friendly, if chatty.   Great barbecue, though.   The Stacker (Tennessee style, with the slaw on top) or the Bootlegger are totally the way to go.  However, the burgers are also excellent; I got mine with bacon, cheddar, and BBQ sauce (my old standby), and it might have been the best such specimen I've had in quite some time.  The smokiness of their sauce is such a compliment to the bacon on the burger.  Truly a gem.  It's a little further south than I normally find myself in the city, but if you're heading down Hiawatha and have some time for lunch, it's well worth it to stop in.

If you are in the neighborhood, this is a great little spot to have around. The ribs were pretty darn good. They serve them finished on the grill with the sauce on the side. Great texture, good flavor and you can walk out the door ten minutes after walking in if getting them to go. I have to agree with a previous review that the slaw had a little too much celery seed for my liking but the fries were pretty good.

I also tried the Eggs Benedict for breakfast last Saturday. Crispy english muffins, big piece of ham, I mean hanging over the edge perfectly fried to perfection real ham, eggs cooked perfectly to your choice of soft medium or hard and a thick hollandaise sauce that most will love. I like mine a little snappier, but I wasn't complaining.

It appears that they make a real effort to put out some quality home style food. I saw few other plates go by that looked pretty darn good as well.

We were craving Q (well, I was at least) and convinced some "sucker" to join me for the ride.  In an earlier review I raved about the breakfast - It's still one of my favorite weekend b'fast spots. This time it was about the ribs.

We got there around 6:30ish on a Saturday and had no problem finding a seat - part of this may have been due to it being Halloween since we noticed that the movie theater we went to earlier in the day was damn near a (pardon the weak attempt at humor) "ghost town." (get it, Halloween -- ghost town. ha!) Though, by the time we left Cap's an hour later, most tables were full. There is always a great mix of people at Cap's, though it tends to favor an older demo (I can't figure out why).

On to the food. I was all over the pork ribs, anonymous dinner partner number 1 dove into a bacon cheese burger, and we split a basket of onion rings. One side is included with the burger, two sides with the ribs.

The o'rings came up ahead of our food, I think there was misunderstanding there, but we were ok with that... I'm pretty sure that the rings are house made, and not the frozen variety, though it's getting harder to tell them apart nowadays. It doesn't really matter, they're way above the average frozen breadcrumb style onion ring.  (Tip: mix the ketchup and house BBQ sauce for a great dipping sauce)

Sucker number one's burger was cooked perfectly to order and he was quite happy with his choice. (by this point I probably shouldn't be calling him a "sucker", but he had wanted Chinese for dinner and I convinced him to go to Cap's (definitely NOT Chinese) instead, so the title remains.). Cap's is a good spot for a decent burger, please mark that off in your lucky number score card.

The ribs. hmmm. The ribs. Honestly, not bad. I remember them being better, though maybe my memory is skewed or maybe my "rib acumen" has grown over the years (along with my figure, ha!), so what used to be good to me before, I can now say, "Well y'know, they would have been better if only they would have [smoked longer | cooked at a lower heat | used a different dry rub | didn't marinate | etc.]." In this case it might be a small combination of all the aforementioned reasons. Don't get me wrong, they're good ribs. The sauce is a good, vinegary compliment, and they aren't over smoked/cooked and falling off the bone. They were as they should be, a little toothsome - sometimes more so than they should be, but they're good. Would I order them again? Yes. Would I rather go to Big Daddy's or Jack Stack in KC? God, yes. (I'm sorry, I just had a personal moment thinking about Jack Stack in Kansas City.)

To accompany my ribs I chose the coleslaw and the beans . The coleslaw is good. A little heavy on the celery seed for me, but my dinner companion, aka Sucker, liked it. You've seen me write this before, so don't be surprised to see it again -- if you want really GOOD coleslaw, go to Cecil's Deli across the river. Seriously. The beans were good too. The menu says they're house made. I say they might be a doctored up canned variety. Regardless, they weren't overly smokey, or BBQ sauced, and had a nice kick that went well with the rest of the meal.

We finished the meal with a bowl of Caps' apple cobbler. It was a good (and fitting) end to the meal. Not a "grand" dessert, but better than a generic frozen food service cake. I think it was baked in house, but the apples were the canned pie filling variety, the ice cream was probably Kemp's, and the whipped cream was Redi-Wip. For $4.50, I got exactly what I expected and liked it. Had it been $9.95, I would have been very disappointed.

The bottom line here is that Cap's is a good Q joint. Not a "great" rib joint. I wouldn't drive six hours for the ribs, but I'll definitely make the 10 minute trip again. As I said in a previous review, try Cap's smoked park chops - they really are pretty darn good. Try the ribs, they're good and different enough from some of the other rib joints in town that it will expand your rib acumen. The service is friendly and attentive. The joint is clean. They've been around 21 years. Go. Eat. Cap's.

I stopped here for lunch over the weekend and had a great experience.  I had the Caps Burger (BBQ cheese burger).  It was delicious, and came with seasoned fries that were to die for.  My friend had the brisket sandwich and was also very satisfied.

Cap's is located as a convenient location off of the light rail line and very close to Minnehaha falls.  It would be a great lunch stop if you were spending the day at the park.

So, if you are in the mood for some BBQ near the falls, give Caps a try.

BRUNCH!!!  I live very close to Caps, but have only been there a few times due to the lack of alcohol license (priorities).  My BF and I went to breakfast at Caps on a Sunday around 1pm, and I think it'll be a new mainstay in our restaurant repertoire.

I had the quarter dark meat chicken meal, my bf had the biscuits and gravy, and we shared a short stack of french toast.  YUM!!!  Everything was cooked to perfection... the BBQ sauce is tangy, but not too spicy.  The french toast came with a gigantic lump of maple butter, and the biscuits and gravy were seasoned on the spicy/peppery side, which suits Sean.

All of this plus 2 coffees for only $24.  Unheard of.

It was supposed to be a team lunch to Sea Salt by Minnehaha Falls but the wait looked like it would take us past our allotted time for lunch. So we thought...Cap's!

Located right off the light rail it was pretty easy to get to from Downtown Minneapolis and we had no wait, although it was pretty full for lunch.

I decided on the Stacker, which is the pulled pork sandwich, and their signature item. Three of my coworkers ordered the brisket sandwich, which came with fries and looked plenty good.

The Stacker was a solid sandwich with tons of meat, i would guess at least half a pound on a nice kaiser type roll. I had to add a little BBQ sauce to the middle of the sandwich which wasn't lathered on quite fully.

The service was super cool and we made it back for our meetings we needed to go to.

A great BBQ place and for $10.75 I got the huge sandwich and a Diet Pepsi. Good Stuff!

We actually went here for breakfast! I know it sounds weird to go to a bbq place first thing in the morning, but apparently it's not that unusual - we got there at 7:45 and it was mostly full! As we were leaving around an hour later, there was one group waiting for a table.

It's mostly older folks (which is the way we like it), and the waitresses seemed to know a fair number of regulars sitting around us. The breakfast is good, solid, basic breakfast fare. Even the egg-hating boy found something substantial and filling to eat and loved it, which is a breakfast miracle!

Prices were super reasonable, the location (RIGHT next to the railway station) was convienent, and the food was what breakfast food should be. You get about the right amount, there are lots of choices, and they didn't mind personalizing an order for us. The service was prompt, the dining room was lit up with morning sunshine, and there were no screaming children. A perfect place to get some greasy hangover cure. Yay!

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the Twin Cities.  I found this place while driving by one day around lunch time.  Since then I've gone there every time I'm in the area.  On any given afternoon you will find it about half packed with locals, mainly senior citizens.  They've got low prices too, for the quality of the food this place is a bargain.

This is a true barbeque joint, where the meat is slow cooked and smoked for 6-8 hours before you even get there.  They have an exclusive barbeque sauce which I taste in the baked beans as well as over the meats.  Their beef brisket is unique and very good, although I prefer Famous Dave's brisket to theirs.  But their pork chops are absolutely amazing.  They are proud of the fact that the Minneapolis Star-Tribune said they have the best pork chops in the twin cities and I agree.  The pulled pork is also very good.  I haven't had breakfast there but City Pages said they have the best breakfast in the twin cities too.

I you're ever in the area you should check it out, you won't regret it.  It's right across from Minnehaha falls and right along the light rail going from the airport into Minneapolis.
