La Tapenade

Its in an airport. If there's one thing you don't expect in an airport it's quality food.
However, La Tapenade is about 40 steps above crappy, greasy fast food dollar menus that comfortingly beckon at every turn.

I'm sitting in the Minneapolis/St Paul airport chowin' down on a greek wrap I picked up a few minutes ago. Fresh cucumber, peppers, a whole slew of other veggies, feta - really a breath of fresh air. La Tapenade is a total counter service place but their offerings are pretty impressive - from caprese salad to mozz/mortadella/proscuitto/basil on ciabatta & beyond, all made to order.

As I'm in between flights (and hungryyyyy), I'm so happy to find an option beyond fast food and mushy premade wraps in plastic containers.

This airport place had all sorts of potential-- certainly looked way more appetizing than the Burger King next door.  It's not all for show.  There are some redeeming touches, such as a bunch of crunchy, cold red grapes on the side.  It's always nice to eat fresh fruit on the road.  However, the prosciutto mozzarella sandwich, which had such great potential failed pretty miserably.  This sandwich highlighted the fact that more is not always better.  In this case, a super thinly sliced piece of prosciutto would have served the sandwich far better.  Instead, the thick piece of prosciutto both dominated the mozzarella and became hard to chew-- the result?  I had to eat the prosciutto, the mozzarella, and the bread all separately.  To make things worse, there was a cloyingly sweet dressing, which also spilled onto the grapes, which annoyed me a little.  For $10, it's nice to eat some premium ingredients, but it still wasn't a great experience.
