(My mini story- skip this paragraph if you want the real review.)
I was driving along Rt 264 towards virginia beach to watch the fireworks. 0.5 mi. before my exit was to arrive, the ETA per GPS went from 11 min to 34 min and i began to see shiny taillights of cars backing up. I mmediately veered my car to the right ( after cheking my side view mirror ofcourse) , and took the first exit i could find before i could get trapped back in that mess! i love fireworks, but not so much. Â Anyhow, longstory short, i called up a few friends, yelped a hookah bar, prayed for the best and rolled into here.
I gotta say, i was taken aback.
Vibe: So, this place looks like a normal tapas bar on outside, nothing fancy. it has its own private lot and is immediately adjacent to Venue 112, which is also a kinda fun bar. (Side note- yelp has Venue 112 listed as the hookah bar- which is NOT. Central 111 is.) Anyhow, It  has two rooms- ones a dance floor/bar , and the room in the back was a smoking room- with the hookah and also served food and alcohol. It has a classy/trashy feel to it. It was kinda odd- the inside was pink/purple with beads all over- classy part. Trashy part- their had tv's around the minibar which kept playing this music video with people masturbating - on repeat! Im not sure what vibe they were trying to evoke, but it was definitely a conversation starter.
More important stuff-
Hoookah- They serve al fakheer(15$) and starbuzz(18$) ( 2 of my favorite brands). My problem was with the hookah itself- i dont think it was set up right- too many coals made it harsh and we had to keep adjusting it. Also, our hoses were not pulling properly, so she had to change them. Im an amateur, but my hookah at home comes out ten times better with less complications. The premium hookah ( stabuzz flavors) come with a mini appetizer platter- which is genius because we did end up ordering food because of it. But the food was GREAT. I have never had a better falafel, ever. Oh, we also got a cheese platter- it came with 3 type of cheese + apples, strawberries, crackers, YUM!
Prices- pricey. We had just been to venue 112 earlier where drinks were 5-7$. here, drinks started at 9, which is expensive and therefore i didn't get any. Blue moon was 5$ ( at venue 112 it was 3$) Â Extra hose was 2$ per person. ADD ICE to bowl was 2$ ( which is not on their menu and server did not tell me!).
Service- was awesome. Our server nina was great. She came by often to check up on us and to chit chat. Next time you go, ask for her to be your server. Shes sweet:)
My suggested plan as a smarter consumer- go to venue 112, drink it up first, then go to venue 112, smoke it up, then back to venue 112 and dance the night down. The end.
I'm writing this as on old lady who really has no business in a bar at midnight......my days of shaking my booty on a dance floor are neatly tucked away in my 20s. Â
Central 111 is sooooo not my stee-lo. Â I should have stayed home and watched Game of Thrones as originally planned. Â Now that's my idea of a great night.
This used to be one of my hangouts. Those late nights are long over but I still like to venture off for a fun night here and there. My group decided to check this place out after dinner Saturday night. The bartender I know from the Onelife Fitness happened to be working and he was chatting up the hookah lounge/bar next door.
On a whim we decided to trek over next door to smoke up some hookah. Shortly after the place got really packed and before we knew it bedtime had arrived.
I definitely miss hanging out at this place like I used to. This is where all the beautiful people go. The place isn't big enough to be a dance club. My preference is to roll in there to drink a few beers and people watch...you can add smoking a hookah to that list now. Next time I see one of their wild parties advertised I'll be sure to return!
I've been coming to Central 111 for at least 3 years now. They always have a big crowd and have beautiful dancers, cocktail waitresses, and bartenders. The drinks can be a little pricey, but they are not stingy with their liquor pouring either... ;) On most nights it's a mix of top 40 and dance music. There are a couple nights a week they only play electronic dance music. If you don't like it, go next door to their sister club, Venue 112.
My response to some of the negative reviews is:
This club attracts alot of European locals and tourists, plus lot of local models and gorgeous women (and men), so if you don't want to enjoy beautiful company and some of the best dance beats, then don't come to a club that caters to more of a Miami and NYC vibe.
As far as the food, they really have some of the best tapas I've ever had. They give out free samples during last call while the bar is closing at 2am, but they serve dinner until 3am.
Many words spring to mind when describing Central 111; disappointing, dark, disturbing and possibly dangerous. Â Given the Great Neck neighborhood, I was expecting an upscale tapas bistro but instead found a poorly designed lounge. Â Immediately after entering I thought perhaps it was a strip club given there is an elevated dance platform. Â One wonders if the place meets safety code given the amateur construction of the interior and the fabric wrapped around the halogen pendant lamps. Â Fire hazard? Â One wonders about that, as well as the gender of the baby-doll attired server. Â She (?) was actually very nice and helpful, if a bit slow in checking back with our party. Â The tapas were OK but not exciting and certainly more expensive than they should be. Â The tuna on cucumber was tasty but messy to eat and was overwhelmed by the spicy sauce in which it was covered.
I had looked forward to trying Central 111 but found it failed to meet expectations. Â This is one dive that I won't be visiting again.
Visited on 8/27/2010. Hillary met us at the front door with a friendly and professional manner. the rest of the night only got better. The food was perfectly cooked and portioned. Everything was just perfect. Hillary proved to be a very professional and accommodating server. The drinks were perfectly mixed and timely served. I would highly request this place to the hardest core of foodies. Just go during the day between Sunday and Thursday. Friday and Saturday night is another animal altogether. Not bad. Just for a 21-25 crowd. Thanks Hillary, YOU ROCK! have fun in Hawaii!
Review Source:I'd been here a couple of times within the last year and wasn't really feeling it. Â It was totally empty, the music was a cross between an elevator and a circa 1995 rave and the crowd was less than hype. Â The staff was expectedly made up of the beautiful people, but for me that wasn't nearly enough to salvage what could have been a nice hip cosmopolitan club. Â
But I went back last week and this place banged. Â We rolled up around midnight and there was a nice crowd inside but not overly crowded. Â The crowd was a nice mix of smiling but not rowdy people. Â The DJ was spinning the hits but managed to keep it from feeling like you were listening to your car radio. Hired strippers shook their junk on a pillowy stage and even some normal girls let loose. Â Best news: Â Full tapas bar sold until 3am!
Fun night, might have to go again.
I've only been to this place as a night club. It can be a fun place to hang out but definitely consider the sleaze factor. Generally, it's not my kind of place.
Fun:
There's always a crowd, even on weeknights when most other places are dead.
Swanky atmosphere (not necessarily to match the crowd).
It's easy to get a drink, and they have great martinis.
SLEAZY:
No one really dances, I mean a few drunk and horny people may be grinding by the end of the night, but if you love to dance there are better clubs for that.
The club hires girls in thongs to dance on the bar and on your table...if you call taking a couple steps and rocking side to side a few degrees dancing.
Pretty much a meat market unless you bring your own crowd.
I really couldn't make up my mind on what would be an appropriate rating because I came here for dinner on a Sunday afternoon with my Mom (yes, my Mom! Â She's been here twice before already and loved the food!) so my rating is for it as a dinner venue, not a club. Â I didn't get a chance to check it for a night out but I suspect the rating would be higher and I plan to come back another time to confirm, maybe next time I'm in town.
Upon first entry I thought two things: Â 1) Â This place is not meant to be seen with the lights on, 2) I forgot you can smoke indoors in Virginia and I'm totally grossed out by the smoke smell. Â Hasn't it been over 12 hours? Â Why does it still smell???
Decor (2/5):
It's like when you're out at a dark club and you can't believe how beautiful everyone is and then at the end of the night you go outside and you see everyone in brighter lights and........... Â YIKES! Â Some of the decorations were really interesting, like the wall painting and stuff but I didn't understand the random skinny glitter streamers here and there in the ceiling, the odd rectangle cushions attached to the walls, the cheap and poorly painted over tables that you'd find in a dive bar, etc. Â I think it probably works at night when it's dark and it's strictly a bar but when the lights are on and you're having dinner, it's not quite the same effect. Â But in the end, unless you're bringing a date or something, who cares?
Service (5/5):
Who can complain about a super cute waitress with a super cute accent? Â Angelina was her name? Â I don't know but she was super nice.
Food (4/5):
Cool Tuna - Very spicy. Â I think tuna is one of my least favorite for sashimi but this was pretty good.
Sea Scallops - The best of what we had. Â Large and sweet.
Spicy Oysters - 2nd best. Â The batter was a little thick but still very nice.
Baby Buffalo Burgers - Juicy, flavorful, and cooked to a perfect temperature.
Drinks (3.5/5):
My Favorite Martini - was pretty much the same as a good margarita w/the ice strained out and served in a martini glass. Â I like margaritas tho.
Upside Down Pineapple Cake - Very sweet but interesting. Â My Mom loved it.
When we went, they were having the martinis and wine at 1/2 off from 5-9pm. Â Although the website says that Sundays there's bogo free tapas, they don't. Â But the prices are reasonable and we were pleasantly surprised about the 1/2 drinks so we didn't mind.
Overall, the food was good and if I was planning a night out, I'd definitely go here. Â I mean, tapas til 3am???
I have been there often and I really have never had a bad time. Â I give it 4 stars, because I wish it were a little bigger! Â The food (tapas) is great. Â And the drink list is extensive. Â The decor is awesome..love it. Â Definitely a trendy place to take your girly-girl friend from out of town.
The crowd is definitely random...you have the clubbish-type, the euro-mod type and then just the regular shmoe's.
Definitely reccomend checking this place out!
Gets PACKED around 11-1130.
Central 111 has a cool vibe to it, music is different but still pumpin and their are some fine white slices in this cut!!!
Bad thing is most of the cuties in here come with a tough guy waiting somewhere to put the hands on you when you make your approach!
Drinks are good but drink as fast as possible due to the high probability of you wearing it, due to the usually large crowd and small club size.
I have such a love-hate relationship with Central. Love their food. Martinis are fab. Music is usually pretty great. But the crowd on Saturday nights can get a little bizarre. And there is no true dance floor, which can be problematic if you're trying to make your way to the bar or to the bathroom.
