Went here for lunch today. It's OK...not great. The Caesar salad was very good but the clam chowder had very little clams in it. The entrees are pricey.......$18 for steak tips?? Really?? The drinks were good and service was good. If I am in the area I'd stop back but it's not worth a special trip.

I like this and consider it a gem. One of the best hamburgers I have found in greater Boston. Casual atmosphere, modest menu done well. 10 cent wings on Sunday. Lots of great TVs. Perfect for burgers sports and beer. Four stars for doing what they do well.

Another case of redeeming a Groupon Coupon which would have been better spent on a meal at home.

Clam Chowder was terrible. The 1st thought that came to my mind was that it tasted exactly like Campbell's or Progesso's clam chowder. One spoonful and I was done.

I got the fisherman's platter.
- The fish was OK. Nothing worth a special drive to Quincy for
- Scallops were decent.
- Clams and squid were overbreaded, greasy and cold.
I (king of all plate cleaners) only ate 1/2 my meal.

The only highlight of the meal were the rolls as they were toasted and crunchy.
Other than that, I can think of anything good to say about the meal.

What is it with Groupons and mediocre meals?
BTW - The Fish & Chips modeled for their Groupon add looks nothing at all like the Fish & Chips my partner was servered at dinner...

There are much better options out there for your money.

I will spare them posting this to my facebook page

Had dinner recently on a Saturday night. Clam chowder served hot and excellent, shrimp caesar and Greek salad with steak tips excellent. A little pricey for the atmosphere as it was a little loud but service was very good. We will return and recommend if you are in Marina Bay.

Sunday nite in May: Fishermans Platter and a Chantey Burger w/sweet onions. Simple food. We are here on a coolish night in May so there were no lines. Ate here on a groupon so I have to say it was a good deal. We're hoping to try out the place in warmer months. The service an cleanliness were acceptable.

This place is always out of steamers. ALWAYS. It's one of the only things I come here for an they are always out....wouldn't you just start ordering more??

It's just run very poorly. Sometimes when you call here you have to try for over an hour before you actually get someone to pick up the phone. We also have tried to come early and they often don't open when they are supposed to and, depending on which staff member you ask, they have different opening times--and it often varies from what is posted. It could be so good...I just wish it was run better.

The man-friend and I came here after discovering a "groupon-now" deal for $15 for $30. We used it on a Sunday, early afternoon on a gorgeous (and hot!) day. We don't frequent Marina Bay because most of the food we've had is overpriced and not that great but with a deal, we were willing to give it a shot.

I knew that the Chantey wasn't on the water and that sitting outside was going to mean a parking lot view but we went for it anyway. We had our choice of tables as the place was pretty much empty but I think given the weather most people were opting for the outside dining at Captain Fishbones, Siros or that other place I can't remember the name since it changed.

The bartender was also out waitress which meant she had to leave the bar (and the patrons sitting there) and come outside to attend to us but she was actually very attentive and checked in with us several times and never left us waiting for her return.

We started with the coconut shrimp appetizer and were pleased with it. It was definitely good (I've had lots of coconut shrimp - if it's on a menu, I usually order it) even in comparison to coconut shrimp I've had in coastal Florida. It was a bit overdone maybe... the shrimp wasn't tough or anything but that fried coating was ALMOST too crispy in spots (perhaps it wasn't plucked out of the fryer quickly enough - maybe they had the bartender/waitress/hostess on fry-girl duties too? - if so, she gets a pass). But like I said, it was good.

We split the fisherman's platter and doubled up on slaw instead of getting french fries. Completely aware that this was not by any means a "healthier option" but knew that we were going to be in fried-food overload with the platter. The platter was definitely large... there was calamari, shrimp, fried fish (probably haddock or cod), clam strips and 2 fried scallops. That was my only disappointment, 2 scallops? I get it, they aren't cheap and they were good and probably the platter is usually ordered by one person but only 2? Bummer. The shrimp and clam strips were probably my favorite but it was all good and while mayo-heavy, the slaw was good as well.

I ordered a coke and our bill came in at just over 30 dollars... the prices charged were actually cheaper than the menu prices. No complaints there!

Though I can't say I'd be back anytime soon - they really do seem to care about the patrons there (opposed to some of the other places I've been in MB) who really just want to hustle you out of the waterfront tables faster than you can eat your shrimp cocktail and pre-frozen salmon portion.

(Add: I just upped my star count because that bartender/waitress/hostess/busboy/fry-girl really worked her butt off and was super friendly to boot!)

We came here for lunch on a cloudy Sunday afternoon in March. The menu is small, but has a solid selection of your standard seaside restaurant delicacies.
A waitress/bartender kept us happy w/ a good amount of alcohol in our bloody marys and friendly conversation. She was also really flexible w/ our ordering and was happy to check about allergy issues.
My fried clam roll was your standard awesome fried clam roll--nothing fancy or showy about it, just some chewy delectable fried shellfish on a bun, w/ a side of fries and some tartar sauce. My wife loved her baked haddock.
If you like playing KENO, you'll love this place.
Overall our great experience here was mostly related to the unusually good service and the seaside ambience.

OK - so I recently posted how much I love the Chantey? I do -- BUT, am disturbed to know the owner brings his dog to the restaurant. I saw it there with him and it was walking on one of the tables. This is extremely unsanitary and I'm quite sure against the law.

I love the Chantey and usually always get the fish & chips. Huge portions and good prices

On a busy summer night, this place had no lines as opposed to the restaurants literally on the "waterfront" at the marina with a view.

Taking that into account, it's a pretty solid value for the money. Having an appreciation for fried foods and cold beer, this place fits the bill.

I had the fried Seafood platter and everything was quite delicious. More than enough portion size for one person. They do have sweet potatoe fries on the menu, and I should have made a request to swap them out for the regular fries.

Salad with steak tips looked pretty fresh, and tasted good as well. As other reviews mentioned they did have a DJ. Not sure exactly what he was playing, but bar wasn't too rowdy for a Thursday evening.

One of the guys at FBC recommended this place to us as a good casual restaurant for a quick bite. It certainly is a shanty, but that's not necessarily a bad thing!

The restaurant is small and has floor to ceiling windows looking out to a small patio and the parking lot -- it would be better if it looked the opposite way out to the harbor, but oh well. It is extremely casual, like hop of the boat in your cutoffs and Sperry's casual.

But the food was good. I had the fish and chips, which was two large haddock filets breaded and fried, served with golden, crispy French fries, cole slaw and tartar sauce. I am really picky about my tartar sauce, and I asked for extra here because it was good.

My two dining companions both ordered the buffalo chicken app with a side of spicy fries. Warning: The spicy fries are REALLY spicy. They were good, but I don't think I could have ate more than a dozen of them.

There is beer on tap... a beer... Sam Summer. We were all ok with that though. The service is a tad slow, but friendly.

Overall, this was the perfect place for dinner after a botched boat trip to watch the thunderstorm roar by.

They have 2-for-1 appetizers before 6:00pm, and we had a http://restaurant.com gift certificate for $25, requiring us to spend $35. That turned out to be rather difficult, and the two of us ended up with like six plates of calamari, fourteen crab cakes, seventy chicken wings, etc. The food is decent, but for the price we were very pleased. If you happen to be at Marina Bay certainly drop by. It's a nice relaxed environment with flat-screen tv's and pleasant waitstaff.

Lunch yesterday in the gloom and drizzle, it was quite cozy. Food was great and they gave a large portion. I just had the fish sandwich and it was about twice the size of the roll. Friend had the fish and chips and it was 2 large pieces over a mound o fries. Nice, fresh cod, decent price and the bartender was a sweetie. I will go back.

Just an everyday seafood shack type of place.

Food was OK, nothing special.

I had the seafood platter and it was a fair portion.
The whole clams where the small belly variety.
It is much better than captain fishbones, not that that says much.
Of course Captain Fishbones has the view.
The view here is of the parking lot since it is just off the boardwalk, so again nothing special.

We were there for late lunch so the music was awful.
Bruce Springsteen, John Cougar and Frank Sinatra on random repeat it seemed.

The service was as good as it could be. There was only a bartender to work the bar and the tables so she did the best she could IMO.

They had no draft beer, and you could not sit outside for food until May for some reason. Not a big deal but odd.

Overall if I was at Marina Bay and wanted seafood I would pick this place.
The food is as good or better than the other options.
If I wanted to enjoy the view while I eat then I would pick on of the other spots.

Hidden gem! Great food and staff!

The Chantey is the only bar at the Marina that does it a bit differently. The Staff is attentive, upbeat and over all great to hang with. It's has the lowest meathead/douche level per capita and everyone is for the most part pretty chill.

The music is more eclectic than other places, if I wanted to hear top 40 throwaway garbage I'd sit in my living room and listen to 94.5. They have a proper reggae Night on Sundays with some great guest DJ's as well as great live entertainment, rotating DJ's, trivia and karaoke throughout the week. The menu is fresh and consists of high end seafood joint fare, double lobsters are pretty cheap too!

When you get sick of taking out a loan to have a few drinks with friends do your self a favor and find your way over to the Chantey for a nice price and some cool people, you will not be disappointed!

I've been here after work on Thursdays. The drinks and food are great. They host a trivia contest on Thursdays that's a lot of fun. The staff is friendly.
