Charlie & Barney's Bar & Grill

I give it a 5*....in spirit.

I am a huge cheeseburger fan, and am always on the hunt for a quality burger. Charlie and Barney's, surprisingly, is one of the better burgers in town.

I can't say there's anything special about it, big size which is nice, but other than it's size the only thing that really separates it from the others is that it is really, really tasty.

It's just a really good tasting burger, and I find some peace in the simplistic aestheticism of that statement.

The ambiance, I get the theme, think "Cheers," but it could use a little updating and the bar area is more of a "locals only" type place to drink. Probably not the best place for a night on the town, but I think C and B's closes up shop early anyway.

But if you're in the downtown area and looking for a place to get in and get out, but still have a good meal, I would 100% recommend the burger at this place.

DISCLAIMER: Never had the chili. Heard they have a cool chili bar, too, but haven't tried it.

I do this for you, not me.

Positives:  huge cheeseburger grilled (this is 1/2 pound easy).  GREAT taste.

Negative: do we need 1/2 pound burger for lunch?
Negative: why do they include greasy, overcooked fries with a 1/2 pound burger?

Positive: huge ripe tomato slices, sweet large onion slices.

Negative: vile vat of mayo
Negative: no mustard or ketchup dispensers.  Only packets. I tore open 30 between the burger and fries.  ridiculous
Negative: cocktail napkins only - I used 30 of these to eat my lunch and yet my hands never felt clean.
My table was dense with empty condiment packets and tiny dirty napkins.  How ridiculous!

Haven't tried the chili yet.  My lunch companion had it on his burger and did not like it.

C&B's has, in my humble opinion, the best cheeseburger in Indianapolis.  The ratio of beef to cheese to buttered bun is perfect.  Even better, their burgers are made-to-order and always hot and fresh!  I know this isn't the fanciest place around, but it is one of my go-to's...for sure!!!
