So tasty! I want more! So my bf and I got lazy one night and wanted to order in! We were craving Chinese, and found this place through yelp of course :) I got the Mongolian beef and vegetable fried fried...and omg it was so good! It was so flavorful. I highly recommend the fried rice, it's a must. The best part is that it came piping hot! And it was delivered so I was very impressed.
Pricey! Yes it's a bit expensive, but so worth it. My dish was 15 and the fried rice was 3 bucks. We weren't aware it came with white rice already though. So if you order your plate, you will get rice.
Overall, fast delivery, tasty, and well be ordering again soon I'm sure .
I've eaten here a few times and I love that they stay open late for dinner. I've been satisfied with their dishes and one that stands out is their Chinese Chicken Salad that I try to make at home but could never get it that good. The waiter was good to us every time I went there (I think it was always the same male waiter too). There was one eggplant with chicken on top that I did not care for. Other than that, I'd recommend it.
Review Source:I like this place for delivery! I especially like their one person size of veggie fried rice for $3! I order it without egg and it's like 2 meals for me!
Also, I've been known to ask them for "extra" vegetables in things like vegetable fried rice or veggie chow mien and they always cooperate. This makes me happy. :)
Yummy Yummy Yummy!!!
This is not true concept because it provides average kinds of food for their customers.
Flavor was good and the price is pretty good but it sometimes seems pricy. They have available parking space and the inside is enough good for enjoyment.
Service was faster and friendly and praiseworthy.
I am not giving Chi Dynasty one star because of the food. This is my neighborhood place, and when I don't feel like going down to Chinatown, it's a great alternative. Â But here's the reason for this rating on this day: Â I broke my leg this week, and after 4 days of not really eating, figuring out how to manage, I finally started to feel better and decided to splurge and order in.
I was punted to an online delivery service (Eat24), which charges $4 to deliver, as does the restaurant, if you call them directly. You order your food, and then click accompaniments and special requests. I wrote: I have a broken leg. I requested plates and utensils and napkins, as trekking to the kitchen right now is a major commitment.
Doorbell rings. I think, Finally, after 4 days, a hot meal. Â The guy delivers, I schlep to the door slowly, take the package, head to the couch -- no napkins, no plates, no utensils. Â I call Chi Dynasty -- guys, what part of "i have a broken leg" did not compute with my request?
Guy who answers the phone says they only do accompaniments at lunch. I say, well, how about a head's up phone call about that, or how about you break your rule given the circumstances? Phone guy could have cared less.
I ask to speak to the manager. He says, we do that but you have to make the request (oh I see, it's my fault). I say, I did. He says, yeah, well, sorry about that, we can bring them now. I say no thanks, as it would still be quicker for me to hop into the kitchen (carrying all that stuff was a challenge given the leg issue). Â
Point I am trying to make here is -- how about paying some attention to details, Chi Dynasty and Eat24? This is what you do -- deliver food -- so how about taking a little care for the $7 extra I forked over, between delivery charge and tip, to actually fill the order?
Jonathan, the wonderful owner, would not be happy about this kind of service, which has always meant something to him. Maybe the expansion has something to do with the disregard?
No more delivery. Will wait 6 weeks till I drive to figure out if I will go back again, given the attitude.
I heard of this restaurant from a few doctors and nurses at work, who order from Chi Dynasty all the time. The Chinese Chicken Salad is delicisous and as an appetiser it's big enough for 2 people. Unlike some Chinese restaurants, Chi Dynasty has a very nice "casual-date" ambiance: muted lights, nice tablewear.
The menu is very comprehensive and servers are very prompt, attentive and courteous. Â I love this place for both eating in and takeout.
So, I almost never eat Chinese food when I go out.. probably because I get enough of it at home. But, I finally tried this place after avoiding it for almost 2 years. Though it looks dark and dingy outside, the inside is not your typical Chinese restaurant. Modern, full bar, attentive waiters that do speak English well. This can easily be a date place or for small groups. The place was 3/4 full on a weeknight.
Prices may seem overpriced, but the quality of food was rather good.
1. Chinese Chicken Salad- LARGE for an appetizer which can easily be split between 2 people. I loved the ginger dressing..I just got tired of chewing lettuce. $8
2. Seafood Heaven- Good mix of vegetables with plenty of seafood..though I don't remember eating the supposed lobster. ~$17?
3. Brown Rice $1 per serving.
We had enough for leftovers for 1 person next day.
I swore off giving bad reviews but it''s nothing personal against the restaurant - I just don't want other people to have high or medium-sized expectations. This was a bad experience. We ordered take-out and I really disliked my food - heavy on the celery flavors, cold pancake wraps for the veggie peking dish I ordered which was itself cold and greasy, and the mushroom dish was too bland. I mean like so dull I couldn't even like it with soy sauce. Â I asked for Chinese mustard and it wasn't in the bag. My husband got Kung Pao Chicken. I thought the chicken was really low par. I ended up not eating anything we bought and having bread and cheese for dinner. My husband thought it was "fine" and had a stomach ache the rest of the night.
Review Source:After a Christmas day movie in Hollywood my wife and I wanted to go for Chinese. We decided on Chi Dynasty because it was close to our location. What a mistake!
Granted it was 4 o'clock on Christmas afternoon, and the Hollywood location was very busy, but standing at the front door waiting for at least 20 minutes just to have our presence acknowledged so we could put our name on a list, is completely unacceptable. We finally looked at each other, said "F***k this and moved on to their Studio City location.
Think, we'll stick to Studio City in the future, much closer to home.
They have big screen TVs, a full bar, and A/C! Â Located just a few doors down from Ye Rustic Inn, you'll find Chi Dynasty. Â The bartender pours a very strong Peachtini and Asian Pear Mojito. Â The decor is lush and red. Â The service is great. Â They are open between lunch and dinner.
Review Source:BEWARE
There's a delivery "surcharge" here.
If you ask the restaurant, the surcharge goes to the driver.
If you ask the driver, the surcharge goes to the restaurant.
SO ...
a) You can either tip less, and get a dirty look from the driver.
b) Or tip normally and basically "tip twice."
YO!
Just be NORMAL: let us tip, and skip the weird fees, okay?
AAAAAHHHH this place is so finger licking good!!!!
Went on a double date here with my sis and our BF's and i love the vibe from this restaurant. Best Chinese food ever, ordered three plates with a side of rice for all of us of course. Ordered Orange Chicken flavor *DRULE*, Kung Pao Chicken, And finally another beef dish with nuts on it (sorry forgot the name) now that was spicy good.
Flavors were so good i swear i came out still wanting more. The prices are pretty good but it can get pretty pricey, and they have plenty of parking space here. Since i came here on a Thursday early dinner it wasn't too full but i would imagine this place to be packed during the weekends. Well Make sure you get reservations and i noticed that this place is very family coordinated so this place is good for a huge group of people.
Happy eating!!!
I drove up and down Hillhurst about 20 times now since I've moved to LA 2 months ago .. well.. for Froyo and Thai Town. Â Anyway, one unfortunate night I decided to come here for Chinese. After we sat down, an unidentified (non-asian) man came to greet us. Â
me: "What's your restaurant's specialty?" Â
waiter: Â "no no this is dinner time - no specials" Â I repeated myself one more time
waiter: Â "uh, special tea, uh we have oolong tea......and......."
(he just went off on the tea they've got to offer) Â I GAVE UP, my boyfriend was like "she meant to say what's really good here - the food" Â and this man got the nerves to list us about 12 things on the menu, just pointed at every damn thing. Â We shooed him off and we decided to order the usual. Â
-Sizzling Beef
-Kung Pao Chicken
-Noodles stir fried with shrimp
sounds decent right? Â Like we can't go wrong? Â ehHH!!!! Â
the noodles fried for too long, partially black so it made the whole dish smell burnt AND tasteless (just like other reviews said)
Kung Pao Chicken - I enjoyed this one. Â
Sizzing Beef - nice presentation, tasteless once again.
Have you ever felt stupid spending more money on shitty food?
this is one of them - what a disappointment.
I will stick to Chinese in San Gabriel and Rosemead from now.
Ordered Dynasty Chicken which had a star beside it to signify "spicy". It was to be served in a curry sauce. Another friend ordered the same and we were EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED. The dish was the most bland Chinese Food I have ever had. Even the "nasty chinese" on Glendale Blvd in Silver Lake is better.
Did have a taste of the Orange Beef and it was slightly better.
My first visit and I won't be going back.
WHOA, can't believe I never wrote a review for the CHI!
Ok, so I live on the Eastside and Chinese food seems either a trek to Chinatown, or I usually head here. I've read a lot of negative comments for this place but I haven't experience a bad time here. If you order delivery, I could see the problem but seriously the best way to eat the food from a place you want to review is to ORDER IT AT THE RESTAURANT.
I always opt for their Hot & Sour soup, the Aromatic Shrimp, the Kung Pao chicken is pretty good, the Mongolian Beef is pretty good, The Sizzling Rice soup is good, The Walnut shrimp is ok, isn't my favorite, I do love their Fried Rice, and I could go on about their sides as well. I'm not looking for a true authentic Chinese meal since I live in Los Feliz/Silverlake, and if I wanted that I'd go to Monterey Park. For what I got in my hood, this is pretty tasty.
Also: They updated their bar menu and they have LOTS of Tiki drinks now! The Mai Tai has always been a staple of this location but to be fair they are VERY strong. Eat first then have a cocktail!
I am definitely a fan and I do enjoy my little spot.
Over priced, crappy American Chinese food..
Yuck.... there is cilantro allover their Chinese Chicken salad, wasnt edible to me...
I'm not a fan, I've tryed it twice and thats enough!!
If I'm desperate I'd rather order from one of the bad cheaper Chinese deliveries in the area, rather than pay too much for this tasteless garbage...even though I know I'll be disappointed, atleast I'll have a fatter wallet...
I used to live off of Hillhurst and went frequently dating back to the old location. Everything I've had is excellent, but I specifically wanted to write this review becuase of the Sesame Chicken.
Im pissed that they make it SO GOOD, because now every time I eat Chinese food in New York, Im just reminded about how far I live from Chi Dynasty. Whenever I visit LA, I have to get my fix.
I've been patronizing Chi Dynasty for over 10 years. In the last 18 months, I have become a more regular customer (once a month or so), but had not been there in a couple of months. Â
Something has changed. Â I come to this conclusion based on my experience there this week, and on the Yelp ratings which have plummeted since early last month.
First of all, the bartender, waiters, and manager were not the same as I remember from many past visits. Â Perhaps coincidental.
Secondly, the food seemed of noticeably lower quality. Â The entrees were oily, a bit bland, and lacking in a diversity of ingredients and spices. Â To be fair, the wonton soup was very good as usual, and the drinks were generous and reasonably priced.
Thirdly, the service was lacking--a significant deterioration from my past experiences. Â The waiter was pleasant, but completely clueless as to the menu. Â The entrees were delivered at significantly different times. Â When the waiter sheepishly told me that they would not honor my http://Restaurant.com certificate, I protested. Â
The waiter summoned the manager to our table. Â Rather than acting courteously and in a conciliatory manner, he came across as the "muscle," with a bit of bullying and a "tough luck" attitude. Â After a rather lengthy and uncomfortable, but civil, discussion (in part, about the consequences of not honoring a coupon that was validly purchased just last month), he sent a new bill with the discount, but without saying a word. Â
Refusal to honor a certificate is just a very poor way to conduct business. Â It is probably illegal. Â Chi Dynasty gets something for offering the certificates on http://Restaurant.com; I paid money for a certificate; and there is no expiration on the certificate (which cannot legally expire in California). Â Therefore, I expect the restaurant to honor their side of a contract.
Unfortunate. Â This used to be my "go to" local Chinese restaurant that I had recommended highly to friends. Â Not again.
Just ... not good.
I really had high hopes for this place, especially after someone told me their mapo tofu was similar to P.F. Chang's (which I know isn't the the best, but I still love it). They were wrong. The food was just mediocre, and they charge you a bunch for delivery, on top of extra for rice. Meh. The food tasted like peanut oil and that's it--no flavor or spice whatsoever. We ordered mapto tofu, the veggie lettuce wraps, and the homestyle tofu--all bland, oily, and flavorless. Really disappointed.
Still on my search for good LA Chinese. :(
Very expensive Americanized Chinese food.
It could be that the Chinese food in Boston is better, but there's a buttload of MSG in everything.
I wasn't blown away, but the ambiance was pretty fancy and relaxing....people dressed a bit up-scale...and the servers were polite, even though my party literally smelled like ass (we just came back from hiking).
my cravings for chinese food are like the lochness monster- hidden under the surface and rarely seen. however, when they come out it's like world war 3. I. MUST. HAVE. NOW!!!
chinese food in silver lake is nearly as rare. there is chi dynasty and point dume, as far as i can tell. point dume is near my friend's house and looks really sketchy whereas chi dynasty has this fancy website so that's how i chose. so sue me.
we ordered the following for delivery:
sesame white fish- too soggy. they need to let it crisp up before putting the lid on that captures all the steam. ok tasting the day after.
schezwan eggplant- yummy and better than we hoped for.
veggie beijing duck- we had to try this because it sounded so weird, and it was the surprise hit! although i suggest eating this all right away because after it sat awhile it wasn't as good.
veggie lo mein- kinda bland, but ok.
veggie dumplings- i ordered them fried, they came steamed. still good but i would have liked them how i asked for them.
there was a huge thing of white rice included which was nice.
it took over an hour which sucked but when a place is busy i can understand. prices are steep. all the above was 60 bucks before tip, which considering there is only one dish with any meat in it is a bit ridiculous. however the portions were decent and it subdued my chinese monster craving from within, so i am sure we will try it again the next time the beast surfaces.
I cannot NOT give them 5 stars.
I was recently very sick with some horrible hairball-bronchitis-lose-my-voice-and-want-to-die illness and the only thing that made me happy was the SIZZLING RICE SOUP from Chi Dynasty.
Went back when I got better for even more soup and to enjoy a MaiTai.
If I crave this place so much...it's 5 STARS in my book!
Oh, and as always, I LOVE the service!
Chi Dynasty wants to be The Palace so bad.... wait.... they were, way back when. That's right. I forgot. To me, Chi Dynasty is sort of like Chinese Food's red-headed bastard stepchild.
I just sampled about 8 different dishes, including fried rice, combination chow mein, kung pao shrimp, some sort of pork with bell peppers, beef and broccoli, and a few chicken and veggie dishes. It was mediocre. Like Panda Express during the dinner rush. The food was hot and fresh, but not as great as I anticipated.
Nice try, guys. No cigar.
Really great service, heavily upgraded interior, attentive service, delicious food, and not too expensive. Â About as good as Chinese food gets in LA outside the SGV.
The cold peanut noodles were good, although we asked for them without chicken, and they brought it with chicken. Â We sent it back, and still found pieces of chicken in it, which was a bummer and the only real flaw in the meal. Â It was a little soupy as well, but still tasty.
The drinks are cheap, and their wine list is actually halfway decent for a Chinese place. Â Cocktails are good, not amazing, but good, big and strong. Â Some stunning values in wine if you're going for bottles, too - some stuff only marked up like 50%, which is pretty insane.
Mains were really good. Â I got the mooshu (sp?) veggies which were delicious, and their hoi-sin is a little on the spicy side which was a pleasant surprise. Â The braised green beans were great - perfect texture, great seasoning, insane portion.
Great meal, and I know we'll be back. Â The mai tai's tasted like orange jice with rum in it, but hell it was still tasty.
I am totally in love with the interior of the new Chi Dynasty location.
*orders mai tai*
I hated the fact that they lost their lease on the old place.
*sips*
I also hated the fact that the building owners tried to steal both their name and their business, and loved the fact that Chi Dynasty said, "Oh, no You dit ent!" in a court of law.
*sips deeply through straw*
The new location is hands-down better than the old one. The decor is new and more modern yet still Asian in feel. Â I love the full service bar, bigger and with a better tv. Â Love the women's bathroom. Everyone must try this, even the men. Do it. DOOOO Â it!
*swallows last gulp and tilts to the right a little*
The menu is exactly the same.
*orders two to split between 3 people because 1 more by myself would make me, er, drunk*
Having said that, I am not a fan of Chinese food. I find it mysterious and sometimes troubling.
*splits drinks, spills some on table, licks off*
There are some things on the menu I love and am definitely happy eating. Â The chicken lettuce wraps. NOM!
*sips deeply and disperses 3 oz of rum throughout massive glass, shares shitface grin with all at table*
I love and always will love the Chinese long beans with chili flakes and chili oil. Spicy recognizable goodness.
*slurps up last of cocktail, goes to bathroom, runs gently into wall, burps*
I also like any scallop of shrimp dish where the shellfish arrives unencrusted with breading, crispy crap or swimming in cornflour.
*orders 1 more for 3 people because it's just a LITTLE more*
I ADORE the Chinese chicken salad, and order it anytime we are not eating family style. I hate family style. I want to order what I want to eat, I want to eat it and not feel pressured to eat something I don't feel like eating because someone ate all my Chinese chicken salad. However, when in Rome with 10 of your friends, eat like a Roman.
*sips at last mai tai, is drunk, kisses dining companion to my right*
