Alright, I'm downgrading this place appropriately, as much as I wanted to like it.
I tried to use my KGB deal last week after work. Â When we showed up, the kitchen was closed because "the cook had something else to do". Â OK?? Â Aren't you a restaurant?
I called today to see if they were serving food. Â An angry sounding man picked up the phone with a "HELLO.". Â I asked if they were open today and he said no. Â I asked if they would be open tomorrow, and he said "I don't think so." Â Then, after a slight pause, he said "I don't think we are open this season", and hung up on me.
Get your shit together, dude. Â Either you have a restaurant, or you don't. Â And don't be a dick to your customers. Â Considering my first time here was really on the shitty side, I've given this place too many tries.
Guess who won't be back next "season"...THIS girl!
Hi. My fiancee and I went here on Monday with a KGB Deal voucher ($8 for $20). We sat outside on a beautiful day next to the river. The menu is pretty limited -- but the food was decent, albeit somewhat small portions (Cuban Pork Sandwich and BLT Sandwich). The young waitress, though kind, had difficulty communicating (English may be her second language), The service was just okay.  We ordered lemonade to begin (no iced tea available!) for a pricey $3. Beware, that they'll automatically add 18% tip to the full cost of the meal  after giving them one of these vouchers with your check. This is not KGB's policy for them to do this. Upset, I spoke with the guy at the counter and he says that many folks using these vouchers tip on the Reduced total...and they they make no money on these deals.  I Always tip on the full amount. I found it rather audacious to assume this tip without telling us in advance. So, I would hesitate to recommend this place without a "voucher/deal" in hand.
Review Source:I worked at the Chicago Riverwalk Cafe this past Wednesday and never went back. I walked out after the first day. As the previous yelper mentioned, this should tell you all something. Branko, the owner, is probably the worst boss anyone could ever wish for. Full of himself, he commandeers everyone around. Â Even more, he yells at his employees, curses them out, calls them names and really infringes upon one's individual human worth. I personally got called an idiot and told to go home after we had a table leave because no one attended to them, and that after he specifically advised me not to take any more table. O yes, he does not have a system for table assignments to individual servers, so that makes everything thus much more complicated.
In addition to that, only 2 or 3 servers speak fluent English - the others are random Eastern European girls on their first weeks in America. The food is really nothing special, even though I appreciate the hard work of the cooks. Overall, I think it is a sad waste of a beautiful location. I Â cannot help but wonder how Branko pulls off such awful service in such a wonderful setting.
I would definitely not recommend this to anyone.
