Did I stuff my face? Yes.
Did I regret how much I stuffed my face? Yes.
Was the service okay? Ehh....sufficient.
Was the food good? Decent. I've had far worse, although I've had much better.
$10 lunch buffet?? YES!!!!!
Thank goodness I had a guide to get me there - coming on the pedway from Prudential Plaza required bottled water, GPS tracking, a small stove and sleeping bags, but we made it.
Meh... Not even passable. Would not eat here again. There are a bunch of better Indian restaurants around.
I ordered delivery - an hour and 15 mins later the food arrives. I had the Malai Kofta and Paneer Makhani. They are supposed to have different bases but not here. Tasted the same with the only difference being the Kofta vs Paneer. On top of that, it was even a little sour and overpriced. The Garlic Naan was good and huge!
As I said above - Never Again
Good food, HORRIBLE customer service. I'll start by recounting the incident that made me decide to never order take-out from them again:
I put in an order via Eat24. I ordered paneer makhani and asked if they could add vegetables, a samosa chaat and naan. My order showed up without the samosa chaat. The only reason I ordered from Khyber Pass instead of Mughal India was because I wanted samosa chaat. I called them and they literally accused me of lying. They said that wasn't on my order and I never ordered it. I told them I had the receipt in my hand and I was reading off the receipt. Then he said it was only a few dollars and it wasn't a big deal. He did not offer to send me the samosa chaat I had ordered, he didn't offer me a refund, he didn't apologize. I said I ordered my samosa chaat and I wanted it. He groaned, turned to someone and said "she said she ordered a samosa chaat and she still wants it." He told me to send the driver back, which is insane. The driver works for a delivery company and he fulfills the orders the company tells him to handle - he wasn't going to drive back to the restaurant and do another delivery free of charge because the restaurant messed up.
I also told them that the paneer makhani had no vegetables and if they couldn't do that, they should let me know or not have an option to customize items when ordering. I have ordered paneer makhani and asked for it to essentially be vegetable makhani at many Indian places before and it has NEVER been a problem. As I was explaining this, the jerk at Khyber Pass felt it necessary to correct my pronunciation of "makhani" everytime I said it. I wasn't ordering, where it'd be reasonable for them to say it back - I was explaining what was wrong with my order as we were both looking at the receipt. Everytime I said makhani, which must've been like 3 times, he felt the need to interrupt and correct me. Like, seriously? He also said, very slow to me like I was an idiot, "Paneer makhani doesn't have vegetables in it." To which I said, "I know that. Which is why I specifically asked for vegetables in it." I may not speak Indian, be Indian or have been to India, but Indian is my favorite food and I have eaten at dozens of Indian restaurants in my lifetime. The way this guy insulted my intelligence because he wanted to get himself out of not reading my order correctly is not something I've experienced at any restaurant in my lifetime before.
In the end, I knew I was not getting that samosa chaat back. The driver wasn't going back to the restaurant to essentially handle a free delivery and the restaurant made it very clear they had absolutely no interest in fixing the situation. Thankfully, Eat24's customer service is much better - they offered me a refund credit.
/end story. As for the food, the samosa chaat is delicious. I ordered it for pickup to my office once and it's like the other samosa chaats I've had, which is to say it was average, but samosa chaat is the most delicious food in the history of the world, so by default average = great. I wish other downtown Indian places would put samosa chaat on their menu so I can just never go to Khyber Pass ever again. Their other dishes were pretty average. I went to the lunch buffet with a group from work and it was pretty decent. Entree prices are a little higher than comparable restaurants, but within the same range. I just have no desire to ever go there again.
