Context: Thursday afternoon around 2:30pm with about 6 existing diners seated and already eating.

This is really a follow-up to a non-posted previous experience.  Since it is fresh in my mind I will say the Pollo here today surpassed expectation.  I remember the chicken being decent but today it hit a note with me and strutted itself around the coupe.  The recipe for flavor is a bit different than the other well known spots and I would dare to say that all the flavor on these birds resides in the skin.  Be sure to cut each bite so you get some of the crispy flavor packed skin with the juicy chicken inside.  Without the skin the chicken was overly moist (good thing) but was not seasoned in the least.  The skin is texture walked that fine line between perfect and over done and stayed on the right side of the fence....crunch, hmmmm, crunch, hmmmm with each bite.

Quickie Tippy: Time your visit so you're not standing in a line out the door.

I seemed to have hit this spot at the right time (after lunch rush but before dinner) and I fairly confident my experience may have been different during a peak hour. The inside of the establishment is small and holds, i'm guessing, 25 seats for customers.  It's easy to see how the time of day at The Chicken Place could weigh heavily on your experience. Don't expect the Ritz Carlton ambiance or even a Ruby Tuesday's but if you can deal with a small roadside dive you'll make it fine with their decor and setup.

The sauces here could be worked and improved in my opinion.  Their 'yellow' sauce looks like a 'orange/pink' sauce and the main take back I got was it was almost pure liquid. I literally poured the remained of one of my dipping cups into the other and it was as fast as a waterfall.  I didn't really mind it though as I came for the chicken and their chicken arose to the occasion.

Just ate here a few minutes ago,

I usually go to Edy's across the street but I thought I would give this place a try.
The rumor is that the owner of this place and the owner of Edy's across the street were once married, but when they split up they opened competing restaurants.
This place is pretty spartan, not as clean as Edy's and most of the employees are women.  Edy's definitely has a women's touch, and most of the employees are men, I think the rumor is true.

Anyway, the chicken is solid as far as Peruvian chicken is concerned.  Compared to Edy's the the ingredients are just a tiny bit lower quality.  The salad for example looks old, they should just cut their costs and not serve it at all.  Another thing they cheap out on is the yellow sauce, it's watered way down.  On top of that they are really stingy with it.

If you find yourself here, just focus on the chicken.  It's salty, juicy, and falls right off the bone.

If you have a choice head over to Edy's it's a bit pricier, but worth it.  Even the cassava fries are better there.

    Logistics:

Beware, park only in the spaces allotted to the restaurant, my friend had his car towed after a spotter saw him park by the Chili's across the lot.

I ate here for the first time and thought everything was delicious!!! Love love love their chicken!    Best Peruvian chicken spot in the area.

Chicken is good. Rice and salad fair. Yucca fries are terrible.

One of my go-to places for peruvian chicken for the past 2-3 years.  No-frills, solid food.  The SIDE salad, like most places, is one that basically comes out of a bag, but it's pretty much just an add-on.  A co-worker used to get the chicken salad all the time and it looked really good.  Love the green sauce (is a little spicy for most, but still never spicy enough for me).  I've never been disappointed by the chicken and the yucca and fries are solid as well.  Chicken is moist on the inside and crispy, flavorful outside.  Parking can be a problem, but service is usually really fast.

Great, great Peruvian chicken.  Very juicy with crispy skin.  Just don't go there for the ambiance.  The place doesn't have a lot of seating, and the service area is usually packed with people standing around waiting for their carryout orders.  But if you're looking for a quick lunch or a great takeout dinner, you can't go wrong.

Your average and reliable peruvian chicken place.  Not the best but definitely not the worst.

i was hungry and read that they had good chicken from yelp so wanted to give it a try.

the place was crowded at the time, and when i started eating my chicken felt something crunchy.  when i spit it out, found a pebble in my napkin.  when i brought it up to the front desk, they did replace it, but were kind of rude, and not apologetic about it.

that will be the last time i ever eat here, thank you very much...

This is a solid choice for Peruvian chicken and I think it is on par, if not better, than El Pollo Rico. The chicken here is a bit crisper and more flavorful. Also, the yucca fries are awesome. The salad is just okay, but in my head, it makes this meal just slightly healthier.
The service is usually quick and also allows me to practice my Spanish numbers since they call out the numbers in a bilingual fashion.
Parking can be an issue at times and the dining area by the door seems to be too cold or too hot. Just come here and enjoy the chicken and call it a day.

If you are of the opinion that Edy's down the street somehow serves better chicken than this place, I need to talk to you. I am writing a scifi novel, and you are clearly from an alternate dimension where the Nazis won World War II and Limp Bizkit is a world famous and extremely talented band - I say this, because there is no way we are residing in the same reality.

The service here is fast - much faster than other chicken places near bye. The price is more than reasonable, and they accept other forms of payment than just cash. (Imagine that! In the 21st century, a business that accepts credit cards! Cresting on the wave of the future, for sure.) The yucca fries are good, and the chicken is excellent. I have yet to have it cold or dried out - which is more than I can say for most other places.

I will agree that the white sauce here is a little less flavorful than some of the other places, but I am not a fan to begin with. I always use the green stuff - and it's good here. Parking can be rough; the spaces you may need to get a running start before you get into any of them, and you will have to be careful as you back up - you may end up in a busy thoroughfare.

    Highly recommend, I will return.

For lunch, I usually get the salad bar from Giant, but when I want something warm with my veggies, I stop here to grab some grub.  It's definitely a no frills place, but the food comes quickly, the chicken is moist, the green sauce is deliciously salty, and the white sauce is sweet and creamy.  Plus, they take credit cards which is awesome since I rarely have cash on me.  One thing that stinks about their location is that parking is tough during the lunch rush, but I've had good parking karma there so far (knock on wood).

Since I forgot that Edy's only takes cash (boooooo!), I had to think of a Plan B.  Looked on Yelp and headed less than half a mile to The Chicken Place which does take cards.  Such high ratings yet I don't understand why.  The Peruvian chicken was unflavorful, not like Super Chicken or El Pollo Rico.  The fries were okay and the white sauce was watery, comparable to the Miracle Whip of white sauces for Peruvian Chicken.  Disappointment....

I always get the chicken and rice with the sauce, sooo yummy. The two gripes I have, sometimes they mess up the orders so check your take out before you go. And the parking sucks.

    Good for a cheap-ish chicken + yucca + salad dinner...HOWEVER...

Bottled drinks including soda/iced tea are overpriced. Yellow sauce is much more watered down than when I first started coming here. Chicken is sometimes hit or miss, but usually juicy and flavorful. Yucca fries are delicious if you get them fresh, but can be dry and stale. Service is always fast. Parking is always available.

Chicken is alright, very tender but not a whole lot of flavor.  The yucca is always stale and pale somewhat.  The yellow sauce is watery and void of much flavor.  But I can see why other people are enthralled with it.  It's just not for me... I like Super Pollo in Lincolnia

DOES ANYONE KNOW what the name of the yellow and green sauce are that they provide with the salad and rice?

Not as good as el pollo rico. Satisfying but personally I prefer el pollo rico --- the green sauce they provide is much more tasty, ok about 100% more tasty. Also want better chicken but don't wanna drive to el pollo rico ...then head across the street to eddy's...they get 5 stars for their chicken also.

"Best Peruvian chicken place, period", "best chicken EVER", REALLY PEOPLE?

I'm now convinced that the owners friends and families are involved in Yelp ratings.

I have been going to these places for nearly 20 years, starting with Pollo Rico in Wheaton MD.  The best thing about these chicken places is the low cost, great food and the famous white/yellow sauce (jalapeno mayo).

The Chicken Place didn't have any of that.  I got a 1/2 chicken, some salad (A.K.A lettuce) and dried up Yuca's for almost $10.

Last time I checked, chicken is one of the least expensive things in the meat department.  The chicken was average and not even really seasoned.  And the worst part, and the main reason I will not go back is the famous jalapeno mayo.  It was the same thing as the crappy yellow sweet salad dressing.  That's the only reason I like these places, the sauce.

You are better off going a block down the street to Eddy's.  Much cleaner, bigger and exactly what you expect from these chicken places.

Friends and family, stop writing bogus reviews on Yelp.

Yuca fries were like styrofoam, and the seasoning on the chicken doesn't taste like it's marinated at all. Service wasn't great, either. Would it kill them to have a sign that says "order here" and "pick up here" or something like that? Then when you order, you get to watch people standing around while your food simply could have been put on the plate so that you could eat.

El mejor pollo a la brasa en Virginia!
This is the best Peruvian chicken in Virginia.  It tastes just like I remember from growing up in Peru. The food is inexpensive.  You can choose french fries, yucca fries or rice as a side.   If you get the steak, the sirloin is tender and cooked for you just as you ask for it.

I give it a solid four.  I think the high praise of this place is due to its location.  They have a great location with great parking.  Location, location, location.

The joint itself is pretty small (seating for 20 at most?).  The parking around it is plentiful.  All the spots are labeled for chili's customers only, but I don't think they care if you park in those spots.

Service was quick enough - they are continuously making the chicken.  It was reasonably priced (one $!).  Although, it is the same price as Boston Market.  They offer choice of one of three sides with the chicken (which comes as 1/4 white, 1/2 or whole), rice, fries and yuca.  I never heard of yuca so I got that.  Turns out yuca is nothing more than "actual" potato fries.  Seems like they just took a potato, sliced it up in 4 diagonals the full length of the potato and fried them - i.e. a larger version of steak fries.  I would have preferred the rice.

Drink selection is broad, with choices of bottled american sodas and iced teas and some hispanic sodas and such.  I saw a hispanic woman grab this orange colored soda called "Rio Grande", I looked at the ingredients and they pretty much matched Coca Cola 1:1 (except for Caramel for coloring), and I figured "hey, if the ingredients are the same, they must taste the same...24 oz Rio Grande vs 20 oz Coke for the same price!"   WRONG.  Rio Grande tasted like an orange cream soda!

So by now I have tried three Peruvian Chicken places: The Chicken Palace, Edy's and Las Brasas (on Four Mile Run Drive next to the DMV).  My personal favorite is Las Brasas.  First, the portions were much better (more bang for the buck), second, the chicken came right off the bone much easier than the other two places, and third Las Brasas felt more of a family owned joint than did the other two.  This is not to say The Chicken Palace and Edy's aren't good, I just think Las Brasas is better.  Take it for what it's worth...

Despite it being packed, my food came out quickly and exactly the way I wanted it, and they had Diet Inca Kola. Crispy skin, not super oily.

I recommend doing takeout since its small inside and theres often a buttload of squealing children.

Happened to be in the Washington DC area on business and as this was my second trip within three weeks from Texas... decided to give yet another Peruvian Pollo Palace a whirl. Last time I was in town I hit El Pollo Rico, which was awesome. Now for the bad news...

The Chicken Palace couldn't even carry El Pollo Rico's napkins. This "place" is inferior in every way. The chicken is not as good, the customer service is The Suck... and their prices are downright retarded.

A whole chicken is almost $15 and a quarter chicken with two sad sides is pushing $8. Attempted to place my order with first one, then two, and finally a third girl who all knew no English. When I say NONE it's totally NADA! Finally the owner who looks to be Indian popped out of the back and took my request.

Forget this spot and roll on El Pollo Rico or Super Pollo close enough in the general area.

My Peruvian mom brought me here when I was a young boy, and I continue to frequent this outstanding chicken place on at least a biweekly basis.

If you want true Peruvian "pollo a la brasa", don't hesitate to grab lunch or dinner here.  Satisfaction guaranteed.  I've never taken guests that weren't impressed.

When I described this place to a friend, they kept asking what the name was.  I kept replying, the chicken place, and they kept asking, yes, what is the name of the chicken place.  We got it sorted out.

I've been eating their chicken for a while now and they never disappoint.  The chicken is never dry, always fresh off the rotisserie, moist, and flavored nicely without being overpowering.  Fantastic example of good Peruvian chicken in a sea of options in NoVA.

Last time I went, I thought I'd try something new so I went for the NY steak.  Yes, they do have fillets and steaks here!  However, very disappointing.  Tough, flavorless, and not really a nice cut either.  If you must order steak here, get it medium rare or rare, cause it's overcooked at medium.  And if you have a choice, get the chicken or go down the parking lot to Chili's, you'll have more luck there.  Other than that, stick to the chicken.

Price-wise, decent deal as whole Peruvian chickens go.   Whole chicken with 2 sides for $13-$14 isn't bad.  They also offer wraps, sandwiches made from chicken at around 4-6 bucks a piece with sides.   Something else that people don't know is that they have these boiled corn that's completely different from any corn you've ever had.  Fantastic stuff there.  It looks mutated and disfigured but you'll never have had corn like this before.  Try it!

The sitting arrangement is pretty tight.  This feels like a take out setting with few seats to eat at.  I had to share a row of tables with some random people which was okay because you know they're here for the same thing, damn good pollo baby!

If you want a fancy plate or silverware made out of metal, then take it home.  They cater well to that need.  They'll have your order ready in 5 minutes flat without breaking a sweat, except for Juan in the back behind the burners.  Whatever his name is, keep turning those chickens cause they be good homes!  (Sorry, I don't know why I was talking like that there.  Must be the chicken.)

Yum! The chicken is very good especially with the green sauce. The other sauce is ok, but I preferred the green sauce which has tad bit of spice to it.  You have a choice of getting a half, 1/4 or whole chicken. There are other options as well such as a chicken sandwich or grilled steak.  I got the 1/4 with legs and thighs which comes with salad and I got a side of fries. The sauce adds a nice kick to the chicken - otherwise it's just broiled chicken.  You could get yucca fries or another side (can't remember the others) as well. It also comes with a green salad. My cousin who took me here suggested I get Inca cola and it's ok - too sweet of a soda for me.

Don't let the appearance and name fool you. Though it's a small literally whole in the wall joint - the food is good and cheap.

The Chicken Place is a solid four stars!

If you're in the mood for good, cheap, rotisserie chicken, this is your place.  There isn't much dine-in space available, just a few tables, but it looked like a lot of people were getting it to go.  They have tons of chickens roasting over their two giant stoves behind the counter, so the turnover must be ridiculously high.

We got a half chicken with rice plus another side of rice, and it was a perfect amount of food for two people.  Just under $10 for dinner for two, can't complain!  Make sure to get extra white and green (if you like spicy) sauce, they're delicious and the mini-shot of sauce they give isn't nearly enough!

Good chicken, fairly quick service, ok price.

With the no frills name like "the chicken place" and its shack-like appearance, I was hoping for a dirt cheap meal that's not McDonalds.  But it is about what you would expect to pay for lunch, ~$6 for 1/4 chicken with a side, no drink.

The chicken was soft, moist, and tasty.  You can see them roasting over coals right behind the counter.  Instead of the fries I opted for the plantans (sweet, not the fried type, but good).

The meal also comes with a side salad which I did not include because it was gross.  Just some shreded lettue with some house dressing.

Colonel Sanders eats this on the low with yucca fries and extra white sauce.

I stumbled upon this sandwich when I was 12. It was in my friend's refrigerator - her mother's cold, half eaten, few day old leftover and it was still beyond words. It will fall apart and make a giant mess, but just roll around in it, its fine.

    3.5 stars

The chicken was good.  Meat was moist and tender(thats what she said!...err wait) and the skin was crispy like peking duck.  however, some edges seemed like they were "too close" to the fire, and were dried and crusty.  very minimal, but nonetheless noted.  The white sauce was very good as well.

Comparing this to Wild Chicken, i was dissapointed by the yucca fries.  They were a tad dry, and poorly cut.  There seemed to be yucca "veins" in some of my fries that I peeled off.

I didn't realize this until later, but they had a nice assortmet of sodas(inca, sangria) which I definitely want to try if i ever go back.

Not bad. This is only my 2nd experience with Peruvian Chicken and I'm hooked. I can't say this place was better than El Pollo Ranchero in Alexandria, but it certainly is much closer for me and not bad at all. The rub they use for the chicken is noticeably different but still delicious.

This place was packed during lunch, but I was in and out in about 5 minutes with my take-out. Chicken is cooked in a large rotisserie oven. Meat was tasty and full of cumin-y goodness. The side of rice was just okay.

Bottomline: Good, but instead of getting the 1/4 chicken for (~$6) spend the extra $2 and get a 1/2 chicken (~$8) and pack the leftovers.

Slowly but surely, I'm hitting up all the big players in the Peruvian chicken league.  It's a feat many have aspired to do, and probably one that many have accomplished.  Ah well, to hell with originality.

I ordered up a whole chicken.  It's my standard for judgment.  The chicken comes with 2 salads and a side.  I usually go with fried yuca if they have it.  The chicken was good and the skin was crispy, however was a little on the salty side.  The salad was ok.  The yuca wasn't as crispy as I would have liked.  So far, the best yuca is at Super Pollo.  My main complaint was with the sauces.  The white sauce and the salad dressing were too watery.  Normally, I dunk my chicken in the stuff to the point where I'm borderline drinking the stuff, but this I did not want to drink.  The green sauce had a good kick to it.

If you come to this place, I recommend learning your numbers in Spanish.  I suck at numbers in every language, but was able to hear doscientos dos when it was called.  It didn't stop someone else from trying to jack my food.  Sorry, too slow grasshopper.  The parking lot is pretty limited as well.  You can tempt fate by parking in the Chili's lot.  I guess they deserve positive points for accepting credit cards.

Honestly, I might give this place another chance in the future, but I didn't find anything special in this land with a plethora of chicken places.  Si el guapo, I would say there is a plethora.

Let me start this review by disclosing that I am not a chicken person. When I was little, I refused to eat chicken for two years. My constant DC companion can't get enough of Peruvian chicken, Popeyes, and Chicken Out, but I inevitably plead for other options. However, this is the story of the Chicken Place, and this story has a different ending.

As you walk into the Chicken Place, you will be dazzled by the sight of dozens of chickens roasting on skewers in the charcoal oven behind the counter. Their crispy brown skins, and the white and dark meat underneath, make for the most delicious Peruvian chicken I have ever savored.

This is a bustling place where the tables are set in rows and strangers and families rub elbows while devouring chicken, yucca, and salad with a traditional cream dressing and a spicy, spicy green dressing made with cucumbers and garlic. My companion chose a 1/2 chicken with yucca, while I opted for the Mediterranean chicken wrap. While delicious with its feta cheese, I discovered that it is an act of blasphemy to order the wrap, which covers up the chicken's delicate flavors. If it could, I'm pretty sure the chicken would peck my hand off for doing that!!

I was completely satiated by the Chicken Place's divine chicken. And the tres leches cake in a cup, while potentially strange, may push me over the edge next time. Highly recommended.

I love Peruvian chicken, but I almost never get to eat it because I live in Boston where we don't have Peruvian chicken. We have Peruvian RESTAURANTS, but when I ask for a roasted chicken sandwich with onions and cheese and a side of yucca fries, they look at me like I'm nuts.

Anyway, this place actually used to be Edy's many years ago, before Edy's moved into their much larger place down the street. There must have been something awesome in this small building, though, because the great food stayed here.

Try the chicken sandwich here. Also, the yucca fries are worth killing for. Enjoy them with the creamy mayo or the green hot sauce. Either way you're in for a good time. Top it all off with a cold Inca Cola (the only soda in the world that tastes exactly like bubble gum) and you're golden.

I love, love, love this Peruvian chicken place, "The Chicken Place."  It's always packed at lunch (completely managable, though).  You can get 1/4, 1/2 or a whole chicken.  They come w/side salad and standard cream and spicy, green sauces.  Other options available, but I just haven't gotten myself to try them.

Personally, I may go for the yucca.  No, I go for the chicken.  Oh, I'm just not sure.

A no-frills Peruvian rotisserie chicken place.  As a first-timer of the Pervian chicken experience, my trip here can be summed up into one word: DELISH!!  The chicken is moist and flavorful with it's crispy well-salted and seasoned skin.  Being a girl watching her figure I had to refrain from devouring every piece of skin from my half chicken.

The chicken comes with both a cream-based and green chili dipping sauces and includes a side salad and your choice of rice, fries, or fried yucca.  Definitely go for the fried yucca - it adds to the Peruvian experience.  As for beverages, check out their fridges and pick from their wide selection of Inca Cola and other unique Latin American beverages.

This place made me fall in love with the wonderful goodness that is Peruvian chicken.  I'm drooling just thinking about it.
