Blast off to chicken deliciousness!
Great grilled chicken is served speedily at this Loop lunch spot. Â $4.75 after tax gets you a quarter dark with a side and pita. Â Get the rice, skip the mashed potatoes and corn on the cob. Â The BBQ sauce is better than the salsa but both are unnecessary since the chicken is so nicely dressed as is.
Definitely check it out.
I made the mistake of calling this restaurant "Chicken Universe" and I was corrected by one of my co-workers, who is a loyal patron. Basically I am saying this place has a following. I've eaten there a few times since then and I'm happily riding the band wagon. This place is healthy and always hits hits the spot. It's fast and I have to admit I get extra and take it home with me some nights to add to a salad. Definitely a staple for the working stiffs in the Loop! :)
Review Source:My buddy and I ate at Chicken Planet today after we passed on a nearby restaurant due to the very long line there. We stopped by about noon, so the Planet soon became crowded too, though the line seems to move very quickly. There is not a lot of seating in the very pedestrian-looking interior, so coming here at peak time may prove to be a tight squeeze if eating here. There was a fellow taking orders while you are in line, which is an efficient system as you then pay at the counter after you place your order. A few minutes later they call out your number, and then it's time to eat. My friend has had the chicken roll here before, so I went along for the ride. It's a chicken pita sandwich with a decent portion of chicken stacked upon some lettuce, tomato, onion and mayo. For a measly 24 cents more (or at least that's the number I thought I read) you can add on a fountain pop, so that's a no-brainer. I might have to try a full-blown meal here next time.
Review Source:This strikes me as a food joint that is nice for the people who work in the area, but really isn't worth going out of your way for. It's the place that you default go to when you've been to all your favorite places already that week.
It's not bad by any means! The chicken was cooked well, but it did't really inspire me to greatness. It could use something like a dry rub or at least an hour of marination.
I've had the chicken wrap which is slices of chicken (you can choose white or dark meat) inside a pita with a perfunctory slapping of lettuce, tomato and red onion inside. The pita is surprisingly good. Pleasantly chewy and fluffy at the same time. The chicken, again is rather bland.
They have a green salsa that you can put on, but it was quite watery and really didn't add more than a vague spice. It helped, but not a lot.
This is not to say I wouldn't go back. It's a pretty healthy option overall and it's fast and cheap.
Now to find Foie Gras Planet ...
Daddy likes some chicken...and that is all chicken planet has. Literally, the only thing you can get at this spot is freaking CHICKEN. For less than 10 bucks, you get an absurd amount of slamming chicken with a side of mashed potatoes. You can't beat it.
The place is really small and it gets pretty hot and smokey inside, so I would suggest grabbing your chicken platter to go. I really can't say much more about this place...except it's got some good chicken. Boom!
After reviewing "Pollito's" for yelp, the other less adept poultry pusher in the loop, I decided it was time to show my planetary pride for the land I call home, that being "Chicken Planet".
Typical order: 1/2 chicken white, with any one of the sides and two pitas please.
In the battle of chicken, "Chicken Planet" crushes the opposition. If not for their lack of proficiency with their sides, I would have given them a five-star rating and slept soundly at night. The mashed potatoes are dry and the rice rather bland. Â Additionally, the BBQ sauce is "meh" and the salsa is just a run-of-the-mill verde sauce from any mexican taqueria. Â Luckily, the mighty chicken can stand alone. Â
Despite these shortcomings, I am happy to have a visa to visit the "Chicken Planet".
**Bonus tip - order the extra pita with the half chicken, it's a delicious reward for a nominal cost .
Bottom line: Scrumptious and juicy chicken and especially delectable pita at suburb prices. Â Make this your go to destination when you have a hankering for grilled C-H-I-C-K-E-N.
This place is great, there is a reason there is always a line out the door. Â I always go with the quarter chicken (white meat), side of mashed potatoes, 1/2 a pita and a drink for $5.50. Â Cant beat that! Â Owner is really nice too. Â He remembered me from old location and made sure to say hi. Â I have also been told the chicken wrap is good, but havent tried. Â Check it out
Review Source:What's not to like about a place that's called Chicken Planet?  For $5 dollars you get a huge piece of chicken, one side, and a drink.  Everyone in my office was raving about  it all week.  I took the two block walk and was impressed.  The chicken was fall off the bone good.  The potato salad was average, but they give you a piece of pita to scoop it with.  I'm grading Chicken Planet for the overall experience.  The staff was friendly, the service was extremely fast, and I was full after the meal. Â
You're probably asking if this chicken is healthy - NO! Â it's a bit greasy, but it's damn delicious. Â If you're on diet, they have diet coke. Â Chicken Planet has found it's niche with quick service and a decent amount of food for the price. Â I'll will be visiting this establishment again. Â If you're in the loop for lunch, I would suggest giving them a try.
Great chicken at a great price! For $6.50 with tax I get a half chicken, side of mashed potatoes, side of pita bread and a drink! Now, you can't beat that with a stick! Service is quick. Â I tempted to try the chicken roll which many folks get, but I can't lure myself away from the half chicken meal. Â The portion size is hefty! You can choose between barbecue sauce and hot sauce, although the hot sauce is not really hot. Â Overall, nice lunch spot in the loop.
Review Source:ugh, i love these places that specialize in one thing and make it fcuking fantastic. yes, this is some fantastic chicken.
so simple, so delicious (and so cheap). you have one option - chicken. ok maybe a couple - dark, white, quarter, half, whole, etc. i went for the quarter dark with corn on the cob. the meal also came with a side of pita bread, which was phenomenal!! the chicken is SO juicy...so don't forget a stack of napkins when you leave.
the place is probably the size of a master bedroom, half of it taken up by grills topped with hundreds of chickens. SO COOL. your best bet it to take it to go.
this would have been an easy 5-star spot, but the hot sauce threw me off...you can't have chicken without some good hot sauce, right? here it resembled gravy..so i was a little confused. it looked foamy and goopy..? uh, well i tried it anyways haha. and yep, wasn't good. had a little kick to it, but tasted..not like hot sauce. i don't know, don't ask me. stick with the bbq sauce here. word on the street is that they've had salsa too? ehh, must have been a bad day for sauces on my visit.
I love this place for lunch! Â I can get a quarter dark meat chicken with a side of mashed potatoes and gravy for less than $5. Â I have been to the original Jackson location a million times, but alas, it closed and has relocated to this new spot on Van Buren, with the same great food and staff, just a little bit fresher and cleaner space. Â I always take it to go, but there are a few tables available to sit down after ordering.
Their charbroiled chicken is always juicy (both dark meat and white meat) and perfectly cooked. Â You can order a quarter (white or dark), half (White, dark or mixed) or a whole chicken. Â It is served with a side and pita bread. Â Their sides are all pretty good - my favorites are the mashed potatoes with gravy or the coleslaw. Â The mashed potatoes taste fresh and the brown gravy is pretty standard - I am a fan of this rather plain side dish. Â The coleslaw is also a wonderful side dish - it has a little bit of creaminess but not too much and has the right texture of shredded cabbage. Â
I have never ordered the Chicken Roll, but I see a lot of other patrons order this and it seems to be hugely popular (it looks kind of like a gyro with chicken instead of lamb). Â
Overall, the food is fresh and cheap; the service is fast and friendly. If you are in the loop looking for an alternative to traditional fast food, this is your spot. Â Check it out, yo!
Not sure what all the buzz is about, the chicken was on order with the ambiance of the restaurant, meh. Â I had the half chicken meal and it was just OK. Â The portions were on the smallish side and fairly dry. Reading all the reviews about it being juicy chicken, made it seem that much dryer. Â I chose corn on the cob as my side and it was over cooked. The condiments (BBQ sauce and Salsa) were average, my advice is to stay with the salsa, at least it has a little bite. Â I don't think i will be heading back, even though i pass by everyday, there are much better places to get grilled chicken.
Review Source:I'd never been to the original Jackson location, but I'd heard good things, and was happy to see it move closer to home/work.
The price is very good for what you get. A bunch of so-juicy-it's-messy chicken, a side (still trying to figure out which is the best), some pita (surprisingly good for something thrown in as a side) and sauce. Always ask for both sauces...their slightly spicy BBQ and their salsa which I think leans more toward gazpacho, which is great since I love that stuff.
And less than $.50 for a drink? You won't find that anywhere in the loop. Godlike. Â I'll be back soon with co-workers in tow.
Just like the other Chicken Planet, only they do not seem to carry the salsa; your choice is between BBQ sauce and hot sauce. Boo.
Chicken is just the same. Tender, juicy, tasty. I wish they'd give more than two small wedges of pita with the 1/4 chicken meal, but I'm sure my waistline is happier without.
Staff here is super quick - I was in and out in under 5 minutes at lunchtime.
Chicken Planet is one of my favorite work place lunch spots, which has opened another location, closer to work. Â That makes me a happy camper! Â Food is as good as the Jackson location where I usually order a half chicken, with a side of their very tasty rice. Â They still have that great salsa or BBQ sauce accompaniment that comes with your order...which I always get the salsa. Â Service was okay for their first day open, a little slower, but is as expected for a grand opening.
In summary, good food, good service, good prices.
