During my tenure of coming to this Chipotle, I've noticed two different shifts of workers. Make no mistake, there is an A-Team who, when working together, make the best burrito bowls ever. They are more generous with their ingredients and simply know what the burrito bowl should stand for.
The B-squad is good, but could take a lesso or two from the dream team. When I walk in and see them, I must curb my expectations. However I've never had a bad experience.
Tip these employees for working hard. You will know when you get the A-team.
Let me preface this review by saying I really love Chipotle when I'm looking for a quick bite but what I have to say is in regards to this particular location. Whenever I go to a Chipotle, I always get an order of three steak tacos with the same combination of toppings. I love my regular order and always know what it's going to taste like.
While eating at this location, however, I noticed the tacos were very sloppy and drenched in salsa / marinade, something that usually doesn't happen at other Chipotles. "Oh well, it's still good," I thought.
Wrong.
After leaving and walking a few blocks, I noticed my stomach was becoming upset and I was starting to have abdominal pains. Knowing something was odd, I rushed to my destination to find relief. Luckily I made it before any accidents occurred but without getting too graphic, know I spent a fair amount of my evening in the bathroom in pain waiting for the food to finally pass.
I wish I could say I knew why this happened or that it was unique to me but I can say with certainty that it was the food that made me ill here. I will not be returning to this location.
I would say this location is tied with the one at Logan and Elston for the best in Chicago! Â The staff is super friendly (they'll even give you the wee little bags of chips for free if you're short a few at the end of your bowl) and they GET that proportions matter when crafting the perfect burrito. Â They have plenty of seating, clean, friendly....and the metered parking right outside sucks but there's always free space to park across the street on a cross street...residential...quiet...safe. Â This is also one of the cheapest places to eat in all of Wicker Park...being that it's one of the few chains in the area. Â If you're hungry for a burrito by the best chain this side of the Mason Dixon...check out this location :)
Review Source:I agree with other reviewers - this Chipotle serves the SMALLEST amount of portions out of any Chipotle I've ever been to, and it's consistent (I've foolishly been here several times because of the location). Â It's absolutely pathetic! There are much better places to stop on Damen...
Review Source:Pretty standard Chipotle on both my visits so far (I say so far because I'm a sucker for Chipotle and eat it once a week minimum).
The staff was nice enough and my wait was short.
Only bummers are they do seem to not be as heavy handed in the portions as other Chipotles but its not a big deal to me as I still end up properly full.
Only complaint is the person running the cash register had to be found both times I went and it really put a bump in the road for me getting in and out quick.
Overall not a big deal but still an inconvenience.
I shall continue to go here regularly I'm sure.
Yes, I am reviewing Chipotle. Why, you might ask? Its because I continually tell myself to stop coming here, yet I find myself irresistably drawn back. They are obviously doing something right. Plus they are right down the street from me.
At this location, its very clean and the employees are friendly. There is usually a line, but they keep things moving quickly. As to the comments about the portions being too small, last time I went, my burrito weighed 1 lb 7 ounces on my kitchen scale. Whoever finishes that and is still hungry has a serious problem. Serious.
My only complaint is that they close so early! 11pm just doesn't cut it on the weekends. I'm still hungry when I get home from the bars, darnit.
I'm a sucker for Chipotle, I don't know what it is. I think they lace their cilantro rice with crack, maybe that's it. This one also just happens to be down the street from me.
Whenever I go here, this one is usually pretty empty and the staff always piles on the goods. No complaints here!
I love Chipotle. I go there when I want something delicious and quick, where the employees work efficiently with consistence in their product and a smile on their face.
This chipotle on damen, however, is the WORST chipotle I have ever experienced. Not only did I have to wait 15 minutes because they didn't have any steak cooked, the employee that was serving me made me go to the back of the 10 person line after the steak was cooked, and reorder. The "quesadilla" with onions an peppers that I ordered, was a smushed up tortilla with a glob of cheese in the center, no onions or peppers. It literally looked like they filled and wrapped this sad quesadilla in cheese, pressed it, then put it on the floor and stomped on it repeatedly. They didn't bother to cut it into three pieces either.
I am sad/ annoyed to say that I experienced such a mess of an establishment. As a loyal chipotle customer I know that their service and food is so much better than this. I am embarrassed for the woman that helped me, and her manager that hired and trained her.
Chipotle is one of the only fast food restaurants where I don't feel guilty eating. I know the food comes from good sources and I don't feel absolutely disgusting when I finish my meal. I feel full and happy!
Atlhough all Chipotles feel the same, I like this location the best because I won a FREE dinner for 4 from them this week. Chipotle is good. But free Chipotle is better!
Also, you can put your order in online and it will be ready when you come to pick it up! You get to bypass the line and just go straight to the register. I felt like I was getting VIP service although anyone can do it.
Sometimes I get that craving for authentic non-authentic Mexican food. Â I know that I should want the good stuff and lord knows I'm all about high-qual burritos, but put me in front of a Chipotle and I'll order any day. Â I know what I'm in for and it's satisfying. Â Sue me. Â But seriously don't. Â I'm paycheck to paycheck right now, and I can't afford another lawsuit. Â I know what you're thinking, "What do you mean ANOTHER lawsuit?" Â Let's just say I'm not allowed within 50 feet of a candy store anymore. Â Don't ask why.
This particular location has some cons. Â The parking situation is non-existent. Â If you head here during prime hours for your craving, you can expect to get creative with your vehicle (unless of course you're riding a donkey, in which case the street is pretty donkey-friendly.)
The staff lacks a positive, customer-focused attitude. Â I've been to some pretty exceptional Chipotles in my day and this one doesn't stack up. Â They take your order and move you out of the way for the next person. Â I guess from a business standpoint that makes sense (I did graduate from business school), but I also realize that return customers aren't born, they're made.
Other than that this place is A-OK. Â They satisfy the craving in a timely fashion and I'm not afraid to go back. Â In fact, I'm not really afraid of anything except spiders, the dark, tomatoes, Harry Potter books, the mailman, flying, people with beards, and shag carpeting. Â Other than that nothing.
We just finished watching the special features of the movie Food, Inc. and they showed a real feel-good Nightline piece http://www.youtube.com/w… where the founder of Chipotle was with Joel Saladin, this super cool visionary farmer who lets all his animals roam in natural environments and doesn't use antibiotics in feed, etc. I swear Joel Saladin is one of my heroes, just from watching the movie Food Inc.
So we decided we need to go back to eating more at Chipotle, since Chipotle buys all of it's pork and chicken and a lot of its beef from super ethical farmers like Joel Saladin, and literally from Joel Saladin too. Â Yay Chipotle! Â Oh, and according to the Nightline piece McDonalds is no longer part owner of Chipotle. Â They were not in the beginning, then owned lots of shares for 7 yrs, but in 2006 they sold their shares.
Normally I love Chipotle. Â It's the only "fast food" restaurant chain that I regularly eat. Â But this is the worst Chipotle location I have ever been to. Â The last 3 times I've been there, it has been awful. Â The people behind the counter don't listen to my order, once he put sour cream on the burrito when I didn't ask for it - and tried to stop him when I saw him reaching for it - but it had to be remade. Â The last 2 I burritos I had from this location have been so watery and leaky that the taste is altered and it's really difficult/messy to eat. Â And the chips always taste stale.
I wonder if this is where all the trainees start? Â Or just bad management at this location? Â
Sigh. Â Despite the leaky burritos and unattentive staff I will be back. Â It's the closest Chipotle to my house so if I want my fix then I have to put up with it. Â
Shame on you Chipotle, all the other locations I've been to are consistently good - what happened with this one?
I LOVE Chipotle!! I like going to this particular location because the staff is SO friendly! They are always smiling and treat the customers very well.
I usually stick to the same thing when I go here, but the other day, I decided to try steak instead of my usual chicken. Â It was delicious. Â I love that all the ingredients here are so fresh. Â I will be a loyal customer and continue to go back here.
They were way too damn corporate at this location. I have never ever ever been charged for a side of salsa and here they were like, "oh, just so you know, that'll be 80 cents".
Oh, just so you know, if I'm spending over $6 for a burrito I can afford that.
Plus bc I don't get beans I asked for a extra cheese, and they barely put any on, then I asked, "can I get a little more"? and they're like "we can build it". ??????
Whatever. Get the pole outta yo' butt.
This is one of the cleanest and inviting Chipotle restaurants I have been to. It is in a really nice part of Bucktown with easy street parking right in front. The food is really good and they do not skimp and pile up the food (especially guacamole) on the burrito bols!
Everything was prepared quickly and I had my food within 3 minutes of walking in. Great meal, great service and a clean environment...can't ask for much more!
My favorite Chipotle in town. Â Always fast and good and they don't skimp on the meat like they do downtown. Â It's also like a half dollar cheaper, which is a nice bonus. Â It makes it under $7 with tax. Â
Keep making the chips and grilling the beef, and I'll keep returning (at least until I'm too fat to walk a few blocks, in which case do you deliver?)
Also, to "Jose G":
You're missing the point. Â Chipotle doesn't pass itself off as a taqueria. Â If you don't like it, don't go. Â Sometimes I feel like eating American-ized burritos with pinto beans, corn salsa and white rice. Â I can't get that at an "authentic" place.
So perhaps your review shouldn't be based so much on the type of restaurant you prefer,, but more-so on the way that a particular business executes what it claims.
If I want a fresh-baked chocolate chip cookie, I'm not going to give a supermarket one star because they sell Oreos. Â Get it together mi amigo! Â You're Yelping up the wrong tree.
Chicken burrito bowl. Â Add the fajita veggies. Â Get both the corn salsa and the fresh tomato salsa. Â Say yes to the cheese, sour cream, AND the guacamole. Â Douse that shit in the green Tabasco AKA the world's finest hot sauce. Â You'd be a goddamn fool to not enjoy this meal. Â Shit tastes so good you forget about how awful you are for supporting an evil corporation such as this one.
Review Source:Obviously Chipotle is not authentic Mexican food. Â We all know that. But I roll my eyes at those who complain about how corporate Chipotle is, how it's owned by McDonald's (it's NOT), blah blah blah. Â If I want authentic Mexican food, I go to a Mexican restaurant. Â But this review is about Chipotle...
They use naturally-raised chicken, beef, and Niman Ranch pork. Â The marinades are flavorful. Â Their salsas are fresh. Â They have amazing guacamole. Â They even have beer and margaritas. Â What more do you want, people?!
Ditch the burrito. Â Flour tortillas are bland and gummy.
I usually get a burrito bowl, with the cilantro rice on the bottom, fajitas, a combo of meats (either chicken + steak or carnitas + barbacoa), all the salsas (tomatillo, corn, hot, and tomatoes), sour cream, cheese, and guacamole. Â Yeah, guac is extra, but it's worth it. Â A squeeze of lime on top. Â Good stuff. Â
Sustainable, organic fast food. Â The QUALITY Â of the ingredients really shines through.
Now, we all know i lost my mother to a band of Mexican rogues while attempting to cross the Rio some while ago, so the thought of a Mexican joint without Mexicans is, in theory, less painful for me to grab lunch at.
In theory.
Unfortunately, the bland, odorless and weighty ball of carbohydrates foisted on me was somehow more offensive to my delicate sensibilities than my dearest mother's frantic cries for help. Â I can at least assume she now leads a good blue-collar life as a drug mule.
These smirking gringos with their blindingly white rice and complete lack of cilantro or ethnic sensitivity do not comfort me the way bloody revenge against the banditos might. Â They don't comfort me at all, truth to tell. Â They kind of freak me out.
While i admire the fact i was in and out of that line in about 2.2 minutes, the huge ball of tasteless pap i had to mechanically grind between my molars sapped any enjoyment from the experience.
There are literally thousands of actual, dangerous dens of authentic Mexican shenanigans and foodstuffs in any given square block of this city (except where things get awfully Polish). Â They're guaranteed to be cheaper and smell like actual food. Â Sexy, delicious, south-of-the-border food with appropriate spices and herbs and whatnot. Â
So what if you're kidnapped and sold into slavery or knifed in the face and left for dead. Â Nothing beats an enormous wet burrito swimming in its own freakish juices. Â Nothing.
Reward totally trumps risk in this instance. Â Fuck Chipotle. Â Get thee to a taqueria.
... that second star is just for the incredible speed with which i was served. Â The food is still terrible.
We all know this is a chain. We all know that it's not authentic Mexican food. But we also know it's delicious. And, p.s. for those of you who think McDonald's is still involved with this place -- it's not. They divested their stake in the company as of last year.
I boycotted Chipotle for many years but finally broke down and had some of their barbacoa soft tacos. Goddamn they're good. And, when you're looking for something cheap and consistent -- this is the place to go. THIS SPECIFIC location is pretty good. I've been to a few others in the city and during the rush they just throw everything together, resulting in the meat and ingredients often outside of the tortilla (I get the tacos) or very little meat, etc. But this one is good. Consistently. YES!
Jeez, Â I can't believe I just reviewed Chipotle.
Shame on you for even considering Chipotle in a town with such amazing and frequent taquerias. There's nary a Chipotle in Chicago that isn't very close by some amazing, cheap and quick taquerias, with much more filling burritos and far more savory tacos that aren't all flour dough and no content. Honestly, gente, what were you thinking?
And this is coming from someone broke all my life. Kill this market for that McDonalds-manufactured burritofication, choose your local taquerias!
If I want Mexican food, I'll go to a Mexican restaurant.
If I want a Chipotle burrito (or soft tacos), I go to Chipotle. Â And the guac? Â Probably the best guac that's not homemade. Â It's a tad expensive, but I don't care. Â And it's a chain. Â BUT, they do have a community-based approach to business with locally-grown produce.
And it's delicious. Â The Damen Chipotle is typically pretty quick and friendly, which is always appreciated.
Plus, they give burritos away for free a lot! Â I wrapped a piece of foil around my head and arms on Halloween and walked away with a free burrito!
This location is my favorite to stop in for a nice filled up burrito bowl. They are always friendly here, and I noticed that they don't get that backed up in the line. (Which is nice if you are going during peak times for lunch & dinner) They always have a full-staff that say, "Hi! How are you today?" I love that.
The pork here is better than the Clybourn location. So are the limes. They aren't hard...Anyways, it is a good place to get fast lunch that tastes fresh. And they always have the front windows open if it is nice. Eating your Mexican dish while reading a book at the bar with windows open on a nice day is priceless. So check em out. Don't be afraid if they are owned by McDonald's. It is NO WHERE near the same. :)
I was hesitant to go to Chipotle at first... they were "fast food", owned by McDonalds, Â and I love mexican, but recently i broke down. Â it's like practically in my kitchen it's so close. Â I love the salad. Â MMMMMmm. Â the chicken, as others have pointed out, is like crack. Â i love the corn salsa, and the red kind. Â It makes me feel like i'm tricked into eating vegetables, and i don't even realize it. Â i am only giving it four stars, because i tried to buy a beer the last time i was there, and was told that they could only sell it to people going to eat there.... Â bummer, a dos equis just looked so good-
Review Source:Yeah, it's a chain, and no, it's not particularly authentic, but it's fast, it's clean, it's close to my house, it's a good value, it uses natural/organic ingredients and it's environmentally friendly. Â Oh and it tastes pretty damn good. Â Love the corn salsa. Â
Plus and this might peg me as old but I like most of the bands on their little paper liner thingies.
I don't usually put in reviews for chain restaurants, but this one I has really good service. Â Good service is hard to find. Â I had to park with my hazards on since parking is always packed along the street. Â I was kind of in a hurry, but I didn't show it. Â The guy putting my order in to go asked what I wanted, and I answer my usual burrito bowl (which is everything but the tortilla in a bowl). Â He put the rice in, but when I asked for chicken he told me I'd have to wait for about 3 minutes, which I said was fine. Â When I was finished adding in the other requested ingredients, he said that I didn't have to pay since I had to wait and that my order was on him. Â How is that for service?!
Review Source:I love CHIPOTLE!!!! Â they have the best burritos! Â They are huge and you create your own. Â choose between chicken, steak, or veggie and if you don't like burritos they have tacos as well. Â the atmosphere doesn't really give you that mexican restaurant vibe but more of a modern urban feel. Â This place is a must eat and it is a chain so there is no excuss not to go!
