Will and company have put together a fantastic, straight forward menu. Â They're using locally sourced, fresh ingredients. Â A big plus for me is that they make their own pickles and bake their own bread. Â In fact, everything in this place is home made. Â Coffee is made to order, one cup at a time. Â They're using Ipsento's beans and doing a fine job representing.
It can be a tight squeeze as it's small space. Â But, that hasn't stopped all five of my family venturing there for a healthy lunch on Sunday afternoon. Â That's also part of the draw. Â It's an intimate feel.
Other notes:
Fantastic cookies. Â Amazing french toast. Â Chicken pot pie. Â House made sodas. Â Music via vinyl.
Well done, Will. Â Can't wait til your open year 'round!
The following reviews are from my seven year old and five year old sons.
"I like Flipside because I really like the grilled cheese dipped in the tomato sauce soup."
"I like the grilled cheese. Â I liked the cider. Â I like the tomato...(daddy, what's that tomato stuff called again? -- soup) soup."
From the moment we walked into this little 10-seat diner, we loved it ~ with it's friendly faces and interesting small menu on the chalkboard. Â The choices are limited in a good way, because they take great care with everything. Â I enjoyed a perfectly brewed cup of tea followed by a well balanced and delicious composed beet salad - the ingredients at the right temperature for maximum flavor. Â My husband had the buttermilk biscuit breakfast sandwich with scrambled eggs and housemade sausage which he loved as did most of the other guests we observed. Â I had the "green" hash with brussel sprouts, zucchini and potatoes along with two perfect sunny side eggs.
To end the meal, we tried the brown butter/brown sugar cookie. Â What a delight! Â A perfect cookie texture with flavor reminiscent of caramel.
We enjoyed talking to Alfredo, a transplanted New Orleanian whose roots show up in some of the menu items. Â We are looking forward to what is next for this great food team
