I love Chipotle, but I don't like this location.
As others have said, they usually skimp on ingredients. I don't understand. None of the other Chipotles are so stingy with their toppings.
Too bad they'll probably get away with it without changing anything since they're in a college town. :(
Chipotle is chipotle is chipotle. But this place only gets 3 stars because they're not very generous with the ingredients.
I had a burrito bowl, and it wasn't overflowing with ingredients like I'm used to with the Chipotle's back at home.
My friend got a burrito and it looked so skinny. Like a starving burrito. Made me sad.
I ADORE Chipotle in general and have been a fan of this location for a long time, but in the past 6 months this one has gone downhill. Â It's not that clean and the staff is very un-Chipotle like. Â I don't want beams or rice on my bowl so I ask for extra vegetables. Â You would think I was asking for truffles or something.
Maybe they have new management or something, but they're really not the same and I have drastically cut my Chipotle trips. Â Try the one on Skokie Blvd instead.
Worst Chipotle on the planet!! Avoid at all costs. The staff is rude and if you're a vegetarian, forget it. They will try to pass on giving you anythign to eat at all. Every time I've gone here I've had to ask them at least eight times to give me some vegetables, so they top it with shitty glances and a bad attitude.
You'll lose your appetite.
If you want to go to a good Chipotle, the one in Piper's Alley at North and Wells (in Chicago) has a phenomenal staff!!
CHIPOTLE IS AMAZING!!!
1) Get a burrito--anything else and you're missing out.
2) Fill burrito with rice and beans and meat and fajitas and guac and cheese and lettuce and sour cream and all four kinds of salsa.
3) Shove burrito into your face-hole until it has disappeared and you feel happy, satisfied, and awesome.
4) Wash it down with chips, a drink, a Corona, and another burrito!
5) Repeat tomorrow.
I love Chipotle and this place is pretty much the same as all the other ones I've been too. It's also the only place downtown that provides decent Tex Mex kind of food (the only other place is Taco Bell which is no competition at all). I usually get a burrito bowl to go, and I have no complaints about them! The portions are huge and make sense for the prices. The only drawback is the long lines during lunch hours and weekends (and that's usually when I get it to go because there's nowhere to sit).
Review Source:i'm generally not into reviewing chains, since they're generic, and people generally know what they have to offer, but this Chipotle is in the ideal location...good ol' Evanston has no quality Mexican or Tex Mex. 2 thumbs up for a chain!
Heck, even when I'm back in SF and there's a plethora of great Mexican food, I still crave Chipotle at times.
This location consistently hires brain dead servers who screw up orders, need to be told twice what to do, and serve to you as if everyone wants mountains of sour cream and only three slices of bell-peppers.
I frequent three locations regularly, this one and two in the Loop. Â The Evanston location is always, ALWAYS run by morons.
Just today I asked for a chicken fajita bowl, the girl begins by asking for my rice preference. Â I say brown, she serves me white. Â Next, she skips the veggies and goes right to the meat, so I ask for fajita and she gives me a little baby scoop. Â Then, we move onto server #2 at the salsas, and I ask for a scoop and a half of corn. Â I get a half a scoop before she shoves it to the next girl and works on someone else's order.
It's this kind of ridiculousness that is really aggravating when ordering because you have to watch them, and this isn't a difficult task. Â I think the servers just don't give a crap. Â Not to mention, it's really obvious when the ones that are morbidly obese pile on the fattening ingredients and barely give you any of the healthy stuff.
This is the only location in Evanston that I know of, and I only get a 5 minute break for lunch, so I just go in here knowing I have to be vigilant or else I could end up with a completely different order than what I asked for.
I think most Chipotles are the same. Not that authentic, but fresh and fast. Not that cheap but they're big so I always end up saving half for the next meal (reheats pretty well). This location gets pretty busy around lunch so try to get there early if you can.
FYI, if you get the vegetarian burrito, the guacamole is free. Otherwise, if you get chicken/pork/beef you pay something like $1.80 extra. And the pinto beans are not vegetarian.
chipotle is about the same no matter where you go, and its usually great. I love the salads, and all of the meats are really good. My favorite is the chicken and carnitas (shredded pork). The pico de gallo, and corn salsas are my favorite on it! I love how they have the nutrition info out now, and also brown rice! This location can get busy at lunchtime but they usually keep the line moving fast, and are good at handling the crowds.
Review Source:Two just-ok tacos with the smallest possible amount of filling, plus a plastic cup of canned margarita mix for $15? Â A burrito filled mostly with rice which you invariably spill all over yourself as you eat? Â Ummm, no thank you.
It's possible I was served my no-filling tacos by the manager or owner, who was trying to save his costs by shorting me. Â They have a nice assortment of filling options, but that doesn't really matter if you only get three crumbs of meat on a taco. Â I do see a number of other reviews here that talk about generous portions, which is perplexing. Â Or else the guy making my tacos just didn't like me. Â I don't need to know the answer to that, I'll just walk past this place the next time.
I used to order huge burritos from local Mexican restaurants in order to get authentic burritos.
Even though burritos at Chipotle are not as good as the local places, I do like their steak burritos with guacamole and black beans.
I don't think I've ever ordered anything else on their menu other than that.
Go to the Chipotle in Skokie if it's not too much of a hassle-food is way better. Chipotle has been a family favorite for years but the Evanston location can't seem to get it right. Their chips is oily and the guacamole always tastes odd, I assume it's because the avocadoes they use are not ripe enough; the cilantro rice has a weird aftertaste as well. The Skokie Chipotle seems to be better at maintaining the same friendly staff (I recognize employees from 5-6 years ago) and it makes all the difference!
Review Source:Years ago I frequented this institution on weekly basis while attending a nearby college after realizing that dorm food really does suck. People try to warn you, but you really don't understand what they mean until you're sitting in a community bathroom for half an hour wishing they had installed handlebars to help you get everything out.
Now that I've moved away and been to other Chipotle restaurants all across the country, I'd have to say that this is the most efficient Chipotle on the planet. The consistently fast service even with lines out the door puts other locations to shame.
It's true that this isn't authentic Mexican food, but that doesn't mean it's not delicious.
Chipotle has the best website ever. Â Seriously, check it out. Â I am often ordering for a group of people. Â Chipotle makes it easy with the following options: 1. you can chose to invite people, via email, to add to your order, 2. you can list people by name and individually build their order, 3. it saves all this information for easy future ordering. Â When you get to Chipotle you skip the line, and everyone's food is labeled with their name on it. Â
The Evanston Chipotle is great. Â My order is always ready within 10 minutes, and they have never made a mistake.
They also have a cute outdoor seating area.
Chipotle is one of those places that everyone seams to like, so I also tried it. And as often, I was very disappointed.
Poorly constructed, unstable, overpriced burritos tastes like McDonald's version of what good Mexican food should be.
Even Taco Bells bean burritos are better - for a fraction of the price. And even the interior and atmosphere at Taco Belle is less worse.
This Chipotle is great - they get it right every time. I have ordered from here directly and I have also done online ordering - both have been positive experiences.
It gets very crowded here but that isn't Chipotle's fault. I actually had a group of students inform my table that we looked to be done eating so could we be on our way so they could have a table. So just beware that people can be pushy when school is in session, but otherwise this is a great option for lunch in Evanston.
I love Chipotle, and this one is as good as the others.
Quick, efficient service. Even when there is a long line, you hardly ever wait. I mostly get it to-go, since it can be hard to find a seat. They have outdoor seating in the (very few) warm months.
It can get a little loud in here, which can make ordering a little hard. (I said HALF a scoop of hot salsa, I fruitlessly repeat after an entire scoop of hot salsa is put in my bol, knowing that I will need a few bottles of water to quench my mouth when consumed!) But they are always willing to accommodate requests - when they are heard.
My standard: Bol with extra rice, no beans, chicken, 1/2 scoop hot salsa, cheese and sour cream.
I love their iphone ordering app as well. I can order and pay from my desk and convince a coworker to go pick it up in the freezing cold!
I love Chipotle, love, love, love it... but my stress level always goes up a notch or two when visiting one on my lunch break. Beans? NO! NO BEANS! Get that scoop out of my burrito bowl before I freak out. And quit dripping the steak juice over the chicken pieces. If I wanted steak juice in my chicken, I'd ask for it. Besides these 2 normal Chipotle-happenings I've come to expect, this specific Chipotle has great service, they're always fast, and even if there's a line out the door (not uncommon for this location), you'll be in and out in under 10 minutes. I do wish they had more seating, this is why a summer visit is ideal... extra outdoor seating. They're always willing to give me an extra scoop of rice, and they're heavy-handed on the delicious guacamole. These are qualities I can appreciate.
Review Source:Delicious if you can get a seat.
This Chipotle meets all the high standards that the chain has set for its franchises, and the employees smile while doing so. Â It admittedly is very, very busy (a victim of a great location and rapid fans among the Northwestern crowd) but the quality of the burritos, tacos, and other delicious items you'll get here will leave you with a happy, (very) full stomach.
Highly recommend this branch without any reservations about items, but be very aware of what time you're planning on going, as rush hours will necessitate a take out!
I'm already a big fan of Chipotle, so I'm a little biased.
This particular location doesn't seem to offer anything additional (or less) than what you get from every other Chipotle. But in case you've never been to any Chipotle, here's what you get:
1. A ton of tasty food
2. Quick service (even when there are long lines)
3. Cheap price overall
They offer tacos, burritos, bowls, and salads. Some locations have beer as well (this one does). I prefer the barbacoa burrito, which is more than enough to fill you up over lunch.
This evaluation is based ONLY on the performance of this particular location. I LOVE Chipotle. I typically eat there once a week near my office. But this one in Evanston -- surprisingly was not so good when I "patroned their establishment".
Now if the place was crazy crowded and they were in a hurry putting things together, then I would understand. But although the dining room was full, there was no one in line when I entered.
What did I order that was sub-par to a typical Chipotle dining experience? A steak burrito bol with black beans, fresh tomato, sour cream and lettuce.
I think the problem was the "foundation" of the bol -- the lime cilantro rice, it did not have that lime cilantro flavor that I love and usually ask extra helpings for.
Or perhaps they were just having an off day. Maybe because they are the only one in Evanston they feel they don't have to do as well. Maybe they figure since most of their customers are students at Northwestern they won't be able to tell the difference between a good burrito bol or a bad one when its offered under $10 bucks.
Maybe I'll just stick to the Chipotle near my office then.
I like this location because it's lively. The line can be long at time, but this place runs like a well oiled machined. When I ask for extra lettuce, I don't get looked at the wrong way. Thanks! What's wrong with asking for extra lettuce... I like the filler, okay! When I asked for less rice, you didn't give me a look. Thank you Chipotle Evanston.
Review Source:I know, Chipotle is not authentic Mexican food, and it's certainly not healthy. Usually, I like authentic and I always like healthy. But Chipotle is good enough to render these criteria unimportant, at least when I feel my stomach can take it. The service is great here, and it's always bustling. Oh, and did I mention the food? It's uhhhh-mazing.
Review Source:I love Chipotle, but can only eat it every once in awhile - maybe once a quarter. Maybe it's because I'm still nauseous thinking about the time my friend dared my to eat two burritos in one sitting and I did (although mad props to Chipotle because it didn't make me sick! I just felt disgusting and didn't eat for the next 24 hours, but I digress.)
I've never been to this location, but we ordered from them for a work meeting last week. For 25 people, they managed to get 24 of the orders correct - the only order that was slightly off was they gave someone a burrito bol instead of a burrito.
I had a vegetarian fajita burrito bol. Usually I get the chicken burrito or bol, but since i had to work a 7-hour shift after the meeting and I work at a job where I have to do a lot of physical activity, I didn't want to feel weighed down after eating a football-sized burrito. The bol was delicious - the peppers were great, the beans were great, the rice was great, and they piled on the toppings I asked for. However, I think they changed their hot salsa recipe, or this location is different from the other ones I go to, because it was like freaking fire in my mouth! And I was still recovering from a bad head cold at the time, so I was appreciative of the spiciness for clearing out my sinuses, but I could barely take it. I can only imagine if I wasn't sick and didn't have piles of sour cream to tone it down.
We also got a few orders of chips and guac. Their guacamole was great and their chips were super salty (but not too salty). Some of the chips tasted like they had pure lime juice on them, and others had no lime flavoring at all. I'm not really sure what that was about.
Overall it was a great lunch (and free - thank you corporate America), but I won't be back for a long time - I just can't handle that much Chipotle in my life.
LOVE!LOVE!LOVE IT!
good enviorment, the place is always packed, in a good way.....ya know, rush effect? well, if u don't then whatever. no harm, no foul.
it's so funny, ever since I went there for the first time ( I was about 12) and i've gotten the SAME thing since! I've never had anything altered with my usual chipotle experience. but that's the fun of it!!!!!
I feel that rising food costs had resulted in disappointingly small burritos at other Chipotles in the city. Not here though. Maybe it is the large numbers of hungry college kids and football players that come in here constantly. Sometimes the manager walks around and asks if everything is alright and the rest of the staff are really nice too! During lunch and dinner rush the place gets really packed with few places to sit, so my husband and I like to go get afternoon burritos followed by a matinee at the movie theater. Try eating the burrito bowl with chips and please don't be that jerk who has to remind their friends about how bad Chipotle is for you, or how many calories is in a burrito. Do we look like we care? I'll meet your starving ass at the Whole Foods salad bar later.
Review Source:I love Chipolte. Â This location is as consistent as any other locations I've been to. Â I think consistency is what makes Chipolte so good. Â I'm in and out of the place in less than 5 minutes. Â I usually get the Bowl with Chicken and black beans. Â The corn salsa is my favorite. Â It adds some spice but also a bit of sweet. Â They can overdo it on the sour cream so I always ask for easy sour cream. Â I love the rice. Â It's easy to make at home - rice, butter, cilantro, salt and lime!
Review Source:have you ever tried the chipotle calorie calculator?
<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.chipotlefan.com%2Findex.php%3Fid%3Dnutrition_calculator&s=adfe7f21ea0cbb36d59a0206911193f7bc1d5436b68140ab5f9d657f6a8aeca1" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.chipotlefan.c…</a>
interesting that a burrito has more cal than a McDonald's meal, and we beat up on fast food places all the time.
Skipping the tortilla saves you ~300 cal
Better than normal Chipotle's in a few ways.
1) Line went faster than normal, but not sloppily faster in terms of messy food prep.
2) Staff was friendly and fluent in English.
3) Dining area was clean and self-serve drink station didn't have that disturbing sticky look that McDonald's drink stations always have.
4) Cute Northwestern boys to look at. And, at 30K at year for education, these boys aren't po' either!
Chipotle is a decent Mexican food option - not as authentic as those mom and pop places down in the city, but tasty enough. Â Prices however are less to be desired.
This location's staff is pretty friendly and efficient - a nice place to stop by for lunch if you're craving some chain food Mexican food (at least, it's a healthier and tastier alternative to Taco Bell) Â I like it because if I'm low carbing it, I just get their burrito bol or fajita burrito bol minus the rice.
3.5 stars for this decent fast-food restaurant where you actually get to eat a substantial amount of veggies. It works like Subway; you go down the aisle placing your order step-by-step.
First you place your order from the following choices: burrito, fajita burrito, burrito bol (no tortilla, just rice), tacos or salad. Next, the meat: chicken, steak, carnitas or barbacoa. The vegetarian option comes with black beans. The chicken and pork are naturally raised with no antibotics, no hormones. Then the salsa: roasted chili-corn, tomatillo-green chili, tomatillo-red chili (spicy), or fresh tomato (mild). Finally the extras: chips, salsa and guacamole. For drinks, they have margarita, beer, soda, water...
In sum, the quality is certainly passable for the price, but I find the meat, especially barbacoa and even the chicken, to be way too salty... Not a healthy choice if you're concerned about your sodium intake.
Chipotle is NOT real mexican food. Â If you don't have a real mexican restaurant close by, it serves well as a substitute. Â
That said, my wife likes Chipotle quite a bit. Â For me, there's nothing like the real thing and I would pick up a burrito from El Famous before going Chipotle.
If I could marry Chipotle, I would. Back home before Chipotle's popped up everywhere, my girlfriends and I would drive 15-30 minutes to taste the Chipotle - which - hey, is far for high school suburbanites.
The chips, so good. And the chicken softshell tacos with a Snapple...so good. I'm not as big of a fan of the burrito - but since it's just about 2 meals, it's great for college students. Good veggie options - plus, you can have a side of guacamole for free if you go vegetarian. Thanks Chipotle.
Sometimes their pepper and onion mix is overdone or cold.
