For a little local flair, I highly recommend this place! Â We heard there is live music during dinner, but we stopped in for lunch while traveling through New Cumberland. Â The food is outstanding, and plenty of it, and the atmosphere is entertaining and comfortable. Â The waitstaff is friendly and attentive, and the menu is extensive. Â Glad we stopped here on our visit to the area.
Review Source:I like to go to Coakley's if I'm in the area or for a special occasion. Â It is more what I imagine a true Irish pub to be, a non-pretentious neighborhood watering hole in an Irish community. I don't go to the bar and tend to forget it is there because they do a good job of separating the restaurant and bar divided by space. (I often go with a recovering alcoholic who does not like to be near the bar atmosphere.) Â However, if you are only two people, they tend to seat you in the entry section which is somewhat "dinerish" in that it is narrow and has a bit of a cramped feel. They do have other areas, which are not easily seen if you are immediately seated that open up into larger space, including a cozy fireplace for cool winter nights.
I find the food a bit pricey and overall bland and not worth the money, which is why I don't go often. I don't mind paying op dollar for a top dollar meal, but not for something I can make just as well - or better - at home. But when I go, I know what I am getting - Large prime rib, medium rare, baked potato - over cooked, with extra calories and cholesterol! I think next time I go I may try the fried brie because of one of the yelp reviews.
Fun spot.
This is a classic Irish bar that seconds as a restaurant, sports bar, lounge and live music venue. There are lots of different rooms: A front section that is reminiscent of a diner, a sports bar area, a small venue for live music, a larger basement venue for more live music, and a back patio area, just to name a few. Coakley's also boasts a great beer selection with 31 different beers on tap! Â The food here is above average and decently priced. Â I ordered the Fried Brie and shared it with a friend. Â It. Was. Delicious. Omg, gooey cheesy inside, crispy fried outside, lightly drizzled with cranberry sauce and served over red-leaf lettuce. The service was friendly, and the atmosphere was lively. Â Some portions of the restaurant/bar seemed a bit cramped, but that might be secondary to the fact that it's an old building. Â
I was lucky enough to come here last night to see Jamie Vessels perform an acoustic set for the Millenium Music Conference. Â It was kind of a small intimate setting (could have used more seating in the front area) but the music was wonderful and the company was great! Â Just the place (and event) for a low-key but awesome Saturday night with friends :)
Bland! My family went tonight for the first time, I don't think we'll be back. The wings were bland, the old bay shrimp was soft and didn't look like a full lb. In fact the next day we bought a pound of steamed shrimp at the supermarket and it was larger and better! The scallops were good, the crab pretzel was ok: dry pretzel and too much sauce too little crab. My chicken potpie was ok, the puff pastry was great but the inside was bland and too wet. 4 ordered the prime rib medium well and they came out less than med. to overcooked. The chicken fingers were also bland and tasted somewhat gamey. The bangers n mash were decent and so were the crabcakes Overall, this place needs a remodel and a new cook.
Review Source:Good looking diner with Irish accents throughout the building.  Ordered the grilled cheese and tomato lunch special for  6.75.  It came with a Chili bowl that was good, although I've yet to taste a bad chili in cold environments during the winter season.  Not much to be said about the grilled cheese on rye as it's very simple.  The meal was a good deal for the price, just be careful about the blue bottle of water on the table, six bucks if you open it.
Review Source:This is my local pub and I really enjoy it. The food is really good and they have been very accompdating with my vegitarian eating habits. They have made veggie versions of gyros and Rubens for me, two things I really enjoyed years ago when I ate meat. It has been so nice to have those foods back again! The ceasar salad is amazing, especially with salmon!! Perfection. Jim (Slegde) is an amazing bartender and will take good care of you and provide you with some verbal entertainment. Funny guy.
Review Source:Went to an Irish Pub; wanted to try Irish food. Â My wife had Shepard's Pie which was beef stew with mashed potatoes on top and baked. She liked it enough to bring the leftovers home. Â I had Bangers and Mash; I have no idea what that is supposed to be like so they could have served hot dogs and mashed potatoes with gravy. Â Oh wait, I think they did. Â Service was great. Â Good selection of beers. Â Dining room was separate from the bar area.
Review Source:Go for the beer or for the specials. Â St Patty's day is also a rager!
I like the food here, but most of it seems expensive. Â The salads, wings, sliders, and fries are all good. Â The baked potato soup is also good. Â It's a very nice, very large establishment. Â There are SOOO many seating areas. Â I can think of 4 or 5 separate seating areas to eat, the game room, and a smoking bar. Â Lots of bathrooms, and separate smoking and non-smoking areas. Â Trivia night is a blast. Â I've been coming here for years for dinner, events, dates, football games, to play games, and for trivia both during the week and on weekends. Â I recommend it. Â
The beer selection is probably the best in New Cumberland. Â The service is also exemplary!
There are a few entrances to this restaurant. There is a bar area and a dining area. It is a neat place to be in.
We were greeted by a friendly waiter and we ordered draft beers. There was a decent selection and we chose a raspberry beer and the angry orchard. We were happy with our choices.
The menu has a good amount of dinner items to choose from. We ordered the irish nachoes which we would skip next time. They consisted of thick cut potatoes, like thick potato chips, cheap tasting nacho cheese, cheaper tasting japelinos, and other forgettable toppings. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't really tasty.
The waiter gave the prices for the specials which was nice.
We ordered the grilled seafood dinner and an irish chicken plate. The chicken wasn't too bad but the size of the chicken breast was very small for the price. My wife ordered fries but would have ordered a salad instead if it was on the menu. We heard another table order it.
The seafood dinner consisted of somewhat dry swordfish, scallops that were very good and shrimp that were good also.
I had mashed potatoes for a side and i really liked that.
We didn't want dessert so we paid the check and left.
The staff is very friendly but i think that they may do that to compensate for the lackluster dinners.
I would come back and try some of the sanwiches as i think these would be much better than the dinner entrees.
A coworker and I were on our way to a job site in Western PA last night and were starting to get hungry around Harrisburg. We got off at the Harrisburg West Exit and after the construction throwing TomTom for a loop we found ourselves in New Cumberland.
A quick check of what was near by showed limited options, with Coakley's being one of them. As we drove past we saw a sign that Coakley's has the Best Prime Rib in Harrisburg or something along those lines. Being the steak fiend I am, I was sold.
We went in and grabbed a table. I order the Prime Rib, as was quickly shot down by the waitress that they were sold out. Umm OK ... it's 7:30 on a Monday in a 1/2 empty restaurant and they're out of the menu item they're advertising on the street. Whatever. Quick scan of the menu and the Braised Beef Ribs look appealing so I order that. 10 minutes later the waitress returns and they're out of that too. Seriously, I mean that's just ridiculous. I look at the menu again and figure they've gotta have the Smothered Chicken ... it's a chicken breast with some vegetables and cheese. Thankfully they were actually about to pull that off.
For my rating Coakley's is getting 2 stars ... it would've been 1 but the Smothered Chicken ended up being pretty decent.
We stopped in for lunch toady, and it was great! You know those franchises that try to look like a neighborhood restaurant but fail miserably. Stop going there and go to this actual neighborhood restaurant. Coakley's has many unique and interesting things on there menu. My wife had the "Pittsburgh Pretzel Sandwich" and I had the "Rachel". their menu is on their website "Yins" should take a look. And for you football fans, Coakley's is Steeler's country.
Review Source:A very big bar with numerous little rooms, it's not a bad environment to drink and have some fun. I had a few drinks at a reasonable price and enjoy the company of some people I had just met. I had a burger and they cooked it fast and it was good. This place does what it does well. I didn't find anything particularly over the top or extraordinary but it was good.
Review Source:The Honey BBQ wings are good, although not consistent. Â Some days I have come here and was served plump moist wings covered in sauce. Others they were very tiny and almost dry. When they are served well, they taste excellent. They have some good pretzel sandwiches and I highly recommend one of them that you don't even need to order by name. Just say to the server "I'd like the heart attack on a plate please" Their beer selection is good, and they have a good amount of TV's to watch the game on in the back room. One of the few places left that you can still smoke indoors.
Review Source:If you're looking for a good, relaxed atmosphere and nothing fancy (mixed drinks and martinis are probably not a good idea), absolutely go to Coakley's.  I go here all the time with my wife.  They have  a ample space/seating, plenty of TVs, and video trivia.  What more could you want?  There are 2 sections: a bar and a restaurant.  I don't go to the restaurant, but the bar is great.  You can get great food there inexpensively (Menu Loophole: the Homestead Club is a Reuben with fries on it, but is cheaper than the Reuben.  Sweet.).  They do allow smoking in the bar which kinda sucks, but it's one of the few places that still feels like bar.  Also try the crab pretzel, it's the best around.
Review Source:When we lived nearby, we came here almost every day (hey, we were in our early twenties). Â Good brews, cheaps wings late at night, and fun bar games. Â Their dart board is addictive to use. Â Nice atmosphere here. Â On St. Patty's day they have a wild party that starts in early afternoon and keeps on going. Â Wall to wall people, jello shots, free beer buttons...the works.
Review Source:This is a really neat Irish pub and restaurant in New Cumberland with a number of different rooms to enjoy a brew or dine. The food that I tried from here was pretty average, and the beer selection is also nothing special. I will say that the inside is rather unique, and is usually packed on drinking nights. There is a louder bar section and a quieter dining room, every inch of the place is saturated with anything and everything Irish.
Review Source:While I was home for Thanksgiving, my three younger sisters decided that we all needed to go out now that we were all of legal drinking age. Â Since one of them lives near this bar and no one was really up for a big night out on 2nd St, we hit up Coakley's. Â Being the total snob that I am (I am the sister that left PA and headed out to Cali), I had my hesitations. Â
However, I was really pleasantly surprised. Â They had some of my favorite beers on tap (you can't find Magic Hat #9 in California), served up some pretty good mixed drinks, and the place had a good atmosphere. Â The bar tenders were even really friendly without being skeezy. Â They had three separate areas in which you could sit... the bar area, a more dining room area, and a game room. Â Major points for the darts actually being in a location where not once did I come close to killing someone. Â And, of course, you can't forget the fact that they are an official Steelers bar, complete with a signed letter from Bill Cowher to prove it.
