Colonial Cafe

I had no idea what I was getting into when I went here, I just wanted to try a new breakfast place in Naperville.
First off: the service was great! Our waitress was perfectly sweet and the cash register girl was really nice too - she was training someone new and even though the restaurant was slammed/busy she treated her new co-worker with patience, respect and kindness - that was nice to see.
I LOVED that they leave a whole carafe of coffee on the table. The menu has some creative looking/seeming but the food is below average.  I'd compare it to Friendlys, Dennys, IHOP, etc.
It's REALLY FREAKING LOUD here - it's a kids focused place, so that explains that.
I MIGHT MAYBE go back some time to try the ice cream, maybe.

We heard they had a Friday fish fry and since we were passing by late last night after work ,we decided to give it a try.  Waitress was very friendly.  We both ordered the fish which was battered cod.  It came with fries, cole slaw and a mini cornbread loaf.  

The fries were good, the cole slaw was over dressed, and the muffin was okay.  It came with a pre-packaged honey butter that was tasty.  The real disappointment was in the fish.  It was crispy but lacked any flavor.  Needed seasoning desperately.  And though it was not an "all you can eat", it ended up being more than we could eat as it wasn't all that good.

We did not have the ice cream which seems to be the major draw here.  Possibly that experience would be a better review.

recently ate here again....it has been many years....and many restaurants since we last ate here......still good food.....can't say about service as we used carry out.....lots of variety as well.
