Not your average sub sandwich menu, lots of rich traditional Italian meats and some I've never heard of like capocollo and mortadella.  I stuck with something I sorta knew, turkey pastrami.

The meat and cheese were cut to order for my sandwich.  I went with a 6", which was plenty for me.  They also have an 8".  But compared to other sub shops like Subway, it's a small 6".   What Conte Di Savoia lacks in girth, it makes up in meaty flavor.

The turkey pastrami takes my favorite deli meat to a whole 'nother level; a nice flavorful peppery rind, thin sliced but still juicy, piled on a fresh and soft but tough crusted bread.  There was some cheese, lettuce, tomato and a little mayo in there too that just enhanced the rich flavors of the meat.

4 stars, strictly based on food...Conte Di Savoia has much better flavor in their subs without having to add all kinds of special/secret sauces that prematurely leak out while your trying to eat.  This appears to be a case where size doesn't matter because the flavor is so big.

*Most 6" subs are around $4.50, 8" subs are about $5.25...depending on which meat you choose.

I usually don't go out and buy a sandwich since it's so easy for me to make myself at home, but Conte makes delish sandwiches that I can't replicate. My favorite is the Italian sub. Sub way, Jim John's and even Potbellies need to take some lessons from these sandwich makers. My only knock is that the sandwiches aren't big enough for my belly so I have to order 2.

Fresh sandwiches and great service!   I love the soups, and they are always good about letting me know the soups when I ask, despite how annoying I probably am about always asking.

Good food, helpful ladies working behind the counter, and the prices are extremely reasonable for how much food you actually get. It looks a little bare bones inside and kind of feels more like a deli than a sandwich shop, but I think that's all part of the charm.

Nuff Zedd. Soup is probably the only item I would get, BUT, they always run out so I just stopped trying!

    Hello, FOOD SNOB here.
Living in Northwest Indiana and working in Gary In. its hard to find a good Pannini Sandwich.   Well with the help of Yelp and a business venture into the city, this is where I stopped.

A Pannini with Grilled Eggplant, Artichoke and Roasted Peppers has got to be good.  And it was.  This place lives up to its tradition.    And a taste of my friends Italian Sub.  I would go back anytime.

They had 4 differnt kinds of Soups.  They did not taste homemade but my chicken and dumpling did hit the spot.

I also liked the variety of upscale soft drinks and most of all the choice of Potatoe Chips.  Thats right, like Salt & Vinigar, Blue Cheese, and Buffaloe wing flavor along with some others.

Not a huge sub eater, I often moan about the lack of variety of options in the Tri-Taylor area.  But Conte's won out.

Conte's chicken salad is a win in my book.  I'm a chicken salad snob and usually don't like anyone's chicken salad other than my Mom's (and mine--but of course, I got my recipe from her.)  I was pleasantly surprised to see that they [Conte's] made their chicken salad VERY similar to mine.

    Their panini(s) are also delish.
The lines can be a little crazy during lunchtime.  But service is usually fairly speedy.

Ditto my review for the original Conte Di Savoia, two words: Italian Sub!

A nice italian deli, will fix up a nice sandwich for you.  There is usally a long line here for lunch which is a good sign.  The bread they use here is good.  There is a nice variety of meats available here, which does well to distinguish this place among its many sub shop, neighbors and competitors.  Place feels more like a little deli that makes sandwiches than a sandwich shop, if that makes any sense.

This deli didn't do it for me. The first thing that struck me was that they had perdue brand meats in the display counter. the prosciutto sandwich i got just wasn't that good. super soggy and there were mustard smears on the bread from another sandwich.  the bread wasn't anywhere near the best spots in town. upsides. the prices are good and my boss said her roasted vegetable soup was incredible so i would go back for that. overall though, i would go back to graziano's, vinnie's, bari or fontano for their subs and continue my search for other joints.

I love everything about this place. The subs are awesome & the bread is nice & soft. Not like the rock hard bread at Bari subs.

Picture this: your child's been arrested (probably charged with disorderly conduct for freaking out at the Rockwell Grill), so you have to go down to juvenile court. You're sitting in court, listening to the prosecutor wax poetic on the atrocities committed by little junior upon the fair citizens of Chicago. Then it hits you, "Boy, I could really go for a sandwich."

Does the following scenario apply to you? Well fear not, there is an amazing deli right across the street! It's called Conte di Savoia, and they make the meanest Italian sub this side of the Atlantic ocean. Sandwiches come in the 6 or 8 inch variety, and I believe the Italian was nominated as one of the best Italian subs in the city (citation needed). For the record, I've also consumed the turkey as well as the meatball sub, although I try to refrain from eating the meatball too often, unless I want to do an angioplasty doctor search on Yelp.

Not only are the sandwiches top notch, but they create some tasty soups, too. While not quite as good as my beloved Soupbox, they still are quite impressive, and vary every day. My favorites are the chicken and wild rice, Italian chili, and chicken and dumplings. Add a vast array of bottled beverages, and you have yourself a hearty meal to satisfy even the most sophisticated palate.

However, a bit of advice: if you enjoy soup as much as I do, I would recommend arriving before noon. From the noon to one o'clock hour, there is inevitably a woman in line who decides to order 75 gallons of soup for her entire office, thus leaving chronic lunch procrastinators such as myself soupless and thus, quite sad.

This is the little brother of the main restaurant further east on Taylor Street but both places make the best subs in the area.  They use great tasting, hearty fresh bread and top notch italian meats.  My faves are the proscuitto sub which comes with fresh mozzerella and the italian sub.

At my job we get Italian subs caterred from here fairly regularly.  They are great and come in almost all meat varieties as well as vegetarian.  Its a great place for the individual as well.  Its a great, freshly cut, sandwich place as well as stocking other Italian foods.
