Having now been to what is probably my tenth concert there and this time with my son I have to take issue with much of what has been said.
Yes, its a a small venue. Â Be prepared for getting up close and personal with the band. Â I saw Grace Potter here in 2011 and it was a fair greater experience than when I saw her at the Fillmore in 2012. Â High heels and all Grace was leaning over the crowd in a manner that is rarely done any more. Â That's typical as most bands respond well to the crowd interaction.
It will get crowded and you will at some point have to get through the crowd. Â You will stand as there is no where to sit. Â People around you will probably be dancing. Â It is loud but the sound is actually generally good. Â It is not smoky as they enforce the no smoking rule for the most part. Â I have always found the staff including security to be very pleasant. Â I've met the manager Greg and he is always making sure that everything is as perfect as possible. Â
I drink cider and beer there and the prices are reasonable at $6 and $8 dollars at least to me. Â Ticket prices are reasonable except for the usual Ticketmaster extortion so get there early and buy tickets directly. Â I'm a guy and the guy's bathroom is kept clean. Â There can be a line and there are extra bathrooms there that are sometimes opened.
It's not perfect but what is? Â Its a 80 mile round trip for me since I live in Miami but I thank Buddah that we have the Culture Room. And yes my son enjoyed the show last night (Papadosio).
Thank GOODNESS I didn't let past reviews worry me because I had one of the BEST nights of my LIFE at the Culture Room. I saw Sevendust here on Memorial day 2013, and it was out of this world.
The venue is nothing fancy... that said, this is a GREAT place to get up close and personal to the band you're seeing.
True- the acoustics aren't the best, but this is a legit place to see a show. If you make it to the front row, get ready to feel the heat and have some sweat dripping on you from the band members. They are RIGHT IN YOUR FACE the entire time.
Fair warning, be prepared to get pushed around a bit and to smell some smoke. Also, there is no place to sit, so be prepared to stand. It is a bit warm inside, but that is to be expected. I didn't drink, so I can't comment on the price of the beverages. Bathrooms were surprisingly clean.
Without a doubt, I WILL return to this venue.... truly an amazing place to catch a show and have a more intimate concert experience.
