Having now been to what is probably my tenth concert there and this time with my son I have to take issue with much of what has been said.

Yes, its a a small venue. Be prepared for getting up close and personal with the band. I saw Grace Potter here in 2011 and it was a fair greater experience than when I saw her at the Fillmore in 2012. High heels and all Grace was leaning over the crowd in a manner that is rarely done any more. That's typical as most bands respond well to the crowd interaction.

It will get crowded and you will at some point have to get through the crowd. You will stand as there is no where to sit. People around you will probably be dancing. It is loud but the sound is actually generally good. It is not smoky as they enforce the no smoking rule for the most part. I have always found the staff including security to be very pleasant. I've met the manager Greg and he is always making sure that everything is as perfect as possible.

I drink cider and beer there and the prices are reasonable at $6 and $8 dollars at least to me. Ticket prices are reasonable except for the usual Ticketmaster extortion so get there early and buy tickets directly. I'm a guy and the guy's bathroom is kept clean. There can be a line and there are extra bathrooms there that are sometimes opened.

It's not perfect but what is? Its a 80 mile round trip for me since I live in Miami but I thank Buddah that we have the Culture Room. And yes my son enjoyed the show last night (Papadosio).

Thank GOODNESS I didn't let past reviews worry me because I had one of the BEST nights of my LIFE at the Culture Room. I saw Sevendust here on Memorial day 2013, and it was out of this world.

The venue is nothing fancy... that said, this is a GREAT place to get up close and personal to the band you're seeing.

True- the acoustics aren't the best, but this is a legit place to see a show. If you make it to the front row, get ready to feel the heat and have some sweat dripping on you from the band members. They are RIGHT IN YOUR FACE the entire time.

Fair warning, be prepared to get pushed around a bit and to smell some smoke. Also, there is no place to sit, so be prepared to stand. It is a bit warm inside, but that is to be expected. I didn't drink, so I can't comment on the price of the beverages. Bathrooms were surprisingly clean.

Without a doubt, I WILL return to this venue.... truly an amazing place to catch a show and have a more intimate concert experience.

Very cool place! I like the set-up; huge stage, big area next to the bars to listen to the band and a nice outdoor area with chairs and tables. Fun times!

I was pleasantly surprised of how much I enjoyed this venue. It is small, but the atmosphere when watching a performance is very intimate. The bartender was attentive and the beers were moderately priced. I'd definitely come back for another show!

After reading some of the really horrible reviews, I have to say I was extremely relieved when I arrived. Yes, it is small but they were running the ac in the entire place. Yes, the bathrooms are a little rough, but I've seen a lot worse at other concert venues- they do have attendants, so take a dollar with you. And yes, the drinks are ridiculously overpriced...a domestic is 6 and an import is 8. Also, do not expect to sit- if you want that kind of venue, this is not for you.

I'd definitely go back. Again, it's really small- but that just means it's an amazing place to see a band. Another plus, when we pulled in to the parking lot (in a strip mall, confusing) there was a guy directing people to open parking spaces- nice!

Awful! $8 bottles of beer with grumpy bar tenders, smoke filled and so over crowded that we left after what we think was 2 songs. Save your time and money and don't visit this gross venue! Buy a DVD or see your band at a different place.

I saw Dr. Dog here recently and the show was great. Get better beer selections and maybe I will see more bands here. That and I can't stand the cigarette smoking... I really wish it would just be banned from everywhere...

Let me start by saying: be prepared to come into an up close, in your face, smoky, crowded concert setting. If you are looking for a concert in the park with lots of space -- don't go to a show here. However, if you are looking for a TRUE concert experience, then by all means go!

I saw Ani DiFranco here and even though it was my first time seeing her, it was the best concert that I have ever been to. We were very close to the stage. We had some time to buy a few drinks before she started (it is pricey so maybe bar hop around the area before you come in) and we stood the entire time. I wouldn't have had it any other way. If you needed a break there was a small sitting area out in the lobby, but I would suggest getting right into the action.

This concert wasn't just a concert; it was an experience. I would love to go back and I urge you to see one of your favorite artists here too!

HORRENDOUSLY rude and disrespectful staff. I walked up, ticket in hand. Some rogue concertgoer tried to enter sans ticket, and although the confrontation was relatively minor, the guy scanning tickets took it pretty hard judging by his communication with me following....I was walking in because he'd already scanned my ticket, then he rudely orders me to come back so he can scan it. I told him I showed him my ID & he scanned it twice already. His response? "Is it REALLY that f***ing hard to take it out again?!" To which I replied, "Is it really that f***ing hard to remember that you scanned it twice?!" AWFUL. As was the purse-invader "bouncer"....it's a shame. Had other good experiences here but this one ruined it for me for good.

I recently saw Dr. Dog at Culture Room and had a great time. It is a small, intimate club-style music venue. You feel like you're close to the band no matter where you are in the stage area. I will concur that if you end up at the back of the crowd ~5 feet in front of the bar, you'll find yourself squeezed by the multitudes crossing the crowd to access the restroom during the show, even if it seemed like you had space before the first song. However, there's usually plenty of space closer up, if you arrive by the end of the opening act you can easily find a spot. If you skated in just in time for the headliner, well, then you get what you deserve.

The sound is good for a small venue, if a bit loud (as should be expected - bring ear plugs if you're sensitive to this). The crowd and the staff were friendly. Good beer selection, bars in several locations throughout venue.

Echoing the sentiments of other reviewers, a lot of the negative commentary on this venue confuses me. There are things you should come to expect at a small venue, rock show. If you are upset by people bumping into you, then you are probably one of those people who carry an enormous purse and stand motionless in the middle of the crowd, obviously unfamiliar with 95% of songs being played. Rest assured the people around you find your demeanor more annoying than you do theirs. So maybe just grab a cocktail, shed a layer, jump up and down, shout at the top of your lungs, and enjoy the moment.

After my third show here, I believe it's time for a review!
Great venue - it's very small, though, so let's say "cozy".

Here's my tips on how to enjoy your evening at Culture Room:

Arrive early for the show. If your show is at 8pm, arrive at 7pm or shortly thereafter. Why? People start lining up an hour before the show and when it comes time for the doors to open, you don't want to be in the back of the line... (more on that below.)

If you're like me and you dislike being squished between sweaty people, note the first tip and ARRIVE EARLY because there is standing room upstairs that overlooks the stage on the right. You have to be near the front of the line in order to even think about grabbing a space upstairs, though. It's a great view, air-conditioned (actually super chilly when I arrived!) and roughly 15 people can comfortably stand up there.

They offer snacks, drinks and booze - all of which I have not tried.

NO SMOKING inside of the venue, which I scream "THANK YOU!!" because cigarette smoke is obnoxious and disgusting. I'm very glad it's outside only.

Bathrooms are TINY - I say that with emphasis.

The concerts I've seen weren't calm or chill, they were heavy metal and rap/rave groups. I've been on the main floor, sucked into a massive pit'o'death, shoved up against the back wall and everything in between - it's a small venue.

Security is ON THEIR GAME, so do not play with them. When above the venue, I was able to watch how security hunted and booted particular people in the pit below. They're not joking around - you will not be able to get back into the venue for your show.

Last tip: It's loud in there (as intimate places are) so if you don't want to damage your hearing, or at least deafen the sound a bit, bring earplugs or stuff tissue paper in your ears. My ears were ringing for 2 days after my last show.

I didn't mean for this review to turn into a novel, but hey, sometimes good tips are worth reading.

Venues like these are a dying breed. In reading some of the negative reviews, I'm confused because being in a small, intimate rock club, it is inevitable that you will be cramped, might have to pay for over priced drinks, might be standing behind someone holding their cell phone up the whole time, may not feel comfortable using the restrooms, and you may even step in something not worth mentioning again, but think of why you went there in the first place...to see an awesome band! Take it all in and enjoy...or wait until this band plays at a colliseum.

Great small concert venue, I'm newish to south Florida and was happy to find this place. I just wish more bands would play here, but that's just South Florida for you. Cheap drinks and a good little bar in the same parking lot to hit before or after the show.

Awful. Just Awful.

I saw Doug Stanhope here and although he put on a great show, the Culture room is an absolute crap hole.

Where to begin. It's dirty, the restrooms could not possibly support the multitudes they allow in. I find it hard to believe they haven't been cited by the fire marshall. Reading some of the other reviews, I would hardly consider $6-7 beers 'cheap' but the real disaster is their 'standing room only' policy.

I have no problem with this in theory, first come, first served. I don't mind arriving at a sports bar an hour early for an event to get a decent seat at the bar/table. Not at the Culture Room! You want a good seat? Step right up and wait in line for an hour in their dingy parking lot with the other 'patrons'.

I'm not 22 anymore, I don't wait in parking lots and I don't fight with drunken scumbags for three inches of bar space to see second rate acts.

I'm at the Culture Room as I write this, and can't enjoy the show because they sell too many tickets. Between the long drive, cigarette smoke, and lack of room to breathe, it just doesn't seem worth coming back. Bands that are popular enough need to just play at The Fillmore, because this place is very unpleasant.

PS: In the outside area near the bar it smells like mildew and mold. Who knows what we could be breathing in.

I've been coming to Culture Room since the venue opened and it has only gotten worse over the years.

First, this place isn't a dive it's a dump. It has all the potential and no one is making the effort. The bathrooms are small and no place for a lady. Just look up at the ceiling. There are "house lights" but they don't work because no one changes the lightbulbs. I'm sure if they did turn those lights on that several bulbs would explode instantly.

Second, this place is over priced for a dump. The ticket fee was reasonable for my event at only $15. The drinks here were ridiculous. I don't drink alcohol and follow a sober lifestyle. I ordered a cranberry juice, just cranberry juice. It cost $4 for maybe 4 oz. and it came from an unmarked bottle that was probably once used for alcohol. I paid the ridiculous $4 fee and then walked away. When I went to sip my drink it tasted nothing like cranberry juice. It was probably 80% water and 20% cranberry juice at best.

Third, the sound quality really depends on the act. I really feel Culture Room is best for hard rock to heavy metal. Every time I have seen an electronica act here the sound is bad. Too much bass and you can barely hear the vocals.

Fourth, be prepared to sweat even if you stand still and stay hydrated. This venue does not run its a/c and does not even have the proper a/c system to keep the place ventilated.

Fifth, don't expect to get any help if you are in trouble. A girl passed out last night at the Washed Out concert and security ignored it. A guy in the crowd ran and told the bartender and the bartender did not care. Strangers in the crowd helped the girl get to proper ventilation so she could get cooled down and wake up. Really unprofessional and clearly Culture Room must not know about liability and lawsuits.

Lastly, my friend got a bag of Cheetos from this place and it was the only stale bag of Cheetos known to man. How can Cheetos go stale? They are made completely of artificial components!

Sooo many amazing memories at this venue. I have seen some of my favorite musical artists here (Rainer Maria, The Format, Saul Williams) and I've even gotten the chance to meet many of them and hang out after the show. There's an semi open courtyard in the front with a bar and inside the stage is reallyyyy high up (makes for a nice neck ache the next day) but you can see the musicians from anywhere in the venue. There's also a nice upper level where you can get a birds eye view of the show. Like a lot of other yelpers have said, the parking situation kind of sucks, but if you get there early its not that terrible.

My favorite part of Culture Room is playing spot the sound guy, he is the coolest looking dude around and there are soo many pictures I have from here with him just lurkin in the background.

This place has the small intimate feel you hope for in a musical space, but absolutely cannot find in South Florida. Decently priced drinks and an interesting list of bands make this place a great find. The bands they book are all over the place in regards to genres and the sound is great. The upstairs bar area is cool but the sound up there is shit so stay on the floor. Parking sucks if you get there late, but who cares.

My first experience here was downright miserable. We were stuck in the downstairs area, crowded by obnoxious teenagers (one of whom tried to pick a fight with my boyfriend, despite being half his size) for hours before Matt & Kim finally took the stage. We couldn't take it anymore and left half way through their set after suffering through 4 or 5 bad or bland opening bands.

Last night we saw Brett Dennen from the balcony with a more mature, chiller crowd. Much improved. Now that I've experienced a show from the balcony, I don't ever want to go back downstairs. The only bad thing about this perch is the foggy smoke clouds of death that rise up from below. Seriously, Florida, why do you still allow smoking in clubs, bars and music venues?! Take a hint from California!

The tickets said the show was supposed to start at 8 so we arrived at 7:45. Doors didn't open til 8 and then it was another 45 minutes before an opening band took the stage (at least it was only one this time). There were still some tickets available at the door, but those of us who bought them ahead of time from ticketmaster, got to go in first. It's a small venue so it has always filled up during my few experiences.

I think your experience really depends on where you are, what the crowd is like and who is performing.

TIP: The parking lot is really small so we usually end up parking across the street at Target.

There are many Rock Bands in this planet, but only a few will be remember as unique.... Apocalyptica is one of the few privilege ones in my opinion. Apocalyptica It's like hidden in classical music, but it's very powerful and strong, that what's make them so interesting and unique.

I attended to last night presentation at The Culture Room and it was great. never been there before and didn't know what to expect at firts. It's such a small a cozy place that made me feel that I was in a VIP or private presentation. The view is perfect from almost every corner and the sound is awsome, loud and strong. It was crowded with fans and we all definitely had a really good time.

I got a flyer with the upcoming presentations.... and will be there again on April 10th for Accept. This is such a perfect place to enjoy all your favorite bands.

There have been some truly amazing shows at this venue. It's smaller than Revolution, but undoubtedly will bring in a packed crowd because of this. Nothing better than being able to stand upright without even trying! The drinks are surprisingly inexpensive, all things considered, and they have a few tables near the bar where you can relax before the band(s) you want to see come on. Not much elsewhere to sit, but most people find the floor just inside the entrance quite acceptable. The people that come here are incredibly nice for the most part, which is surprising considering the genre of a lot of the music played here, stereotypes, blah blah blah. Someone once sought me out after a band played and apologized for punching me in the nose five minutes prior!

Definitely don't hesitate to come here if you see that a band you like is playing! And don't park across the street, on the SE corner, no matter how bad parking might be --- you WILL get towed.

Culture room is awesome because it's a small venue and you can see the stage perfectly from wherever you're standing. There is even an upper balcony with a bar, and two other bars on the first floor. They had a variety of beer which was cool for $5 .

Finding it may be tricky, just know that it is across a Target and a Wendy's. Also, parking is freeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Culture Room, I love the fact that you are a small venue that showcases the talents of obscure acts and some better known acts.
I have had the pleasure of seeing Cat Power and Amos Lee a few feet before me almost catching sweat and spit and they sing their hearts out. Nothing compares to what I witnessed last night.
I will forgive all of the rude twenty somethings that pushed and shoved their way through your swelling crowds as if it was a Ministry mosh pit @ Lollapalooza in 92. I will forgive the rude security guards that bullied their way through the crowds like riot police in the LA riots of, well, every year. For the mere fact that I believe Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros to be one of the most beautiful, awe inspiring and riveting shows I have ever witnessed.
Let's begin by proclaiming my love for hippies. Dreaded dirty sexy tousled hair, compassion for all things of the earth, free-lovin partying types, non sensible speech, glazed over eyes that shine like stars in the night....sigh.
Hippies, you are my heroes.
Alexander Ebert, you are the messiah that the Jews have been awaiting. You definitely have similar hair.
Alexander, As I say the name wild animals roam, rainbows appear and Angels shed cotton candy tears.
He was the center piece in an ensemble of 11. Jade Castrinos was pretty amazing but Alexander was divine.
Let me just say that he appeared in what I believe to be the same outfit that he wore at Coachella earlier this year. Ahhhh hippies, they are always so consistent with their ensembles so you can spot them right away and give them hugs, hold hands and dance around in circles.
Some of their more familiar jams were played like 40 Day Dream, Janglin and Home but the real masterpiece was the encore, Brother. It was sublime. Like a sweet serenade laced with a mild hallucinogen.
Alexander jumped into the crowd twice to dance along and sing along his people.
The surreal moment come when he ascended from the stage for the second time and asked everyone to sit down whilst he sang. EVERYONE sat down and he sang Brother. It was quiet and all listened as intently as if what he was preaching was the word of God or your definition thereof.
At this time the rest of the band wasn't even around except for a guitar player and a tambourine man.
After the song he stuck around and hugged everyone and spoke to all whom wanted a word.
He was magical, mystical and moving.
Legend has it that after breaking up with a girlfriend, moving out of his house and leaving a twelve step program to live in a more honest reaction of the moment Alexander began working on a book. It was about a messianic figure named Edward Sharpe that was sent down to Earth to kinda heal and save mankind...but he kept getting distracted by girls and falling in love.
It sounds like an autobiography to me.
Whatever kool aid you're pourin', I'm drinking.

I gave it a 5 because I LOVE smaller concert venues that are big enough to draw established acts but intimate enough to feel like you are in the middle of the VIP section of a larger concert. I had an awesome time. The place is very cool, but it did have some flaws.

Buy tickets in advance! I called the box office several times on day of show and nobody answered. That night, they made all people w/o tix (and will call) wait on an obnoxiously long line until people with a tickets were situated. Even those with tickets were stuck waiting around an hour to get in. They could be better organized. Never had a problem getting a quick drink expect for one gap of time between main acts, no surprise. Beers are a bit pricey but not over the top - about 6 or 7 bucks. They sell bottled beers but pour them into plastic cups (looks like a house party). No re-entry. Bathrooms were scarce but decent with soap and t.p. throughout the night - not bad for 3 stalls for ladies in a sold out show, without restroom attendant.

Overall, I'd go again but recommend to others to go with a relaxed attitude, tickets in hand and comfy shoes :) I'm happy we have Culture Room!

Culture room is one of the only venues in South Florida where they do a Meet & Greet where you can meet the artists, take pictures and get autographs after the show.

Free parking which is a plus!!

The stage is fairly big with good sound. They have 3 bars. One next to meet & greet, another by the stage and the third upstairs. The prices are fair and what they averagely cost.

The staff is nice and the venue itself is in a good area. They have great artists like Motion City Soundtrack, Fun., The Hush Sound, Envy on the Coast, etc.

No matter where you stand you get a good view of the band ( unless you're really, really short lol), and so is the 2nd floor.

It doesn't get hot at all, and is very comfortable, which is great because it can get pretty hot in shows. In the meet & greet area there is table and chairs to sit and relax. In between shows they have a big screen to play music and videos to pass the time of each band setting up.

Overall, Culture Room is the best venue and very deserving of the 5 stars!

Saw Perpetual Groove play here last month and given the absolutely fantastic nature of the concert I've come to one decision: Culture Room exists in an alternate universe and when cops drive by they see a regular 7/11... or something.

Seriously tho - all kidding aside - this place is really cool and I hope it never changes. Hippies were everywhere, music was good, bars were easy to access, bathrooms were available, there's an outside section with seating if it got too hot inside, the stage was super close and easy to squirm up to, and everyone was super friendly with space.

The prices weren't horrible, and the parking wasn't terrible. I guess we got there just in time because I got a front row spot and so did my friends. If anything my only gripe is the line - but hey, it was P Groove. What was I to expect...?

Anyway - I hope Culture Room is there to stay and that whatever alternate reality it exists in is one I'm allowed to continue visiting. Good times were had!

Came to see Brandi Carlile here this past weekend and was pleasantly surprised. I had envisioned this place to be a smoky, no room to breathe kind of a place but to my surprise, it was actually quite spacious and no smoking was allowed!

To see your favorite not so famous chanteuse or up and coming band, this venue is perfect. It's intimate enough that you have a great view no matter what part of the floor you are at. Also, the sound here is pretty decent as well. The place definitely hasn't been updated since the 80's, which you can tell by the decor and the overall look of the building itself.

I went here last month for a concert, when I first got near the venue my friend said we were going to park In a Target parking lot across the street.... WTF... I saw the venue which is in a shopping plaza and again thought WTF. When we got inside though I was surprised with what a good job this place did with the limited space. It gets super packed but they manage to run 3 bars at once during the shows, there is also an upper-side balcony/bar. The sound system here is pretty good and they also have cameras running during the show and projected behind the band which gave a cool effect.

This place is the epitomy of a dive bar with great music. Its two story location, is tucked away in a plaza, with busy parking lot, especially on friday nights.

But the bonus is, you are SUPER Close to the performers. if your on the second floor, you can be right above the stage, and see the sweat dripping off their heads. Its Awesome.

great place for newly discovered bands, I saw: Lifehouse and Matt Nathonson here. and local bands play here as well.

cheap strong drinks, great sound, and great music, and cheap entrance price and/or Concert tickets on http://ticketmaster.com. The doorman can sometimes be a dick, it is always hot in there , one bar is cash the other credit, its small, bathrooms are nasty! so why did it get 4 stars? Well they have a great track record with the bands they book. I have been to some truly legendary shows with Queens of the stone age, The Killers, Citizen Cope, Rooney and so on. That is where the small size comes in handy with these great bands, it feels really intimate like you're watching the bands before they blew up into the mainstream. p.s. the doorman isn't really a dick, just doing his job.I suppose.

Confession: I am a music junkie. I mean I start to get the shakes if I don't hear live and get my hands on a new band every few weeks. It's bad, but I digress, I'm here about Culture Room, right?

We get good, live music so rarely here in Miami that if anything comes to town, I'm all over it. This is a great place that is getting some really good, off the mainstream line of sight, bands to play. It has a nice feel for live music and gives you that intimate feel of a good concert. Great beer selection (I also go weak in the knees for any place that sells PBR) at decent prices.

Only complaint is the restrooms are on the far side and you have to squeeze in front of the sound booth (which is generally lined with folks) to get to the restrooms. Other than that, great spot---recently saw Brett Dennen and Citizen Cope here.

HATE to come out on a sour note, because the Culture Room is an awesome place to listen to decent talent without having people trample you on a drunken show of enthusiasm, but the fact that they are only equipped to accept credit cards in some places can be disorienting in the middle of a concert. Just went to see Erin McCarley and I wanted to purchase the artist's CD with a credit card, only to find out that they don't accept CC's on show souvenirs. That's fine, except that two feet over they DO accept CC's for drinks? But in the OTHER bar they don't? But in the one upstairs they MIGHT? You can see why a newcomer in the middle of a loud concert might be a little frustrated by this. Add to that they charged my credit card tab with, like, 150 bucks for like, TWO BEERS, and you can see what a sweet person I am for not giving them one angry star ;-)

The Culture Room has the misfortune of being located in South Florida where cool bands rarely ever, so it's mostly questionable local acts and 1990s throwbacks. Is Tonic still together?

It's a cool venue, though.

I have one thing to say about this Ft. Lauderdale gem. They must have the best booking agent ever. This joint never lacks the most amazing bands coming to South Florida. If you're in the mood to listen to some indie bands or bands you haven't heard in ages, then they are probably playing live in the Culture Room. Miami has never had a solid place to host great bands that can't fill a venue (well Studio A, but they never kept a solid booking schedule and are now closing). That is why we drive up to Ft. Lauderdale. It is a small venue with lots of character. So if you don't want to go to a stadium to see a band then come here and you'll find a place where the music is always stellar and the crowd is always eclectic.

Since I'm not from Ft. Lauderdale, I really can't complain about this place. I f'ing loved it! I loved the layout especially...where you get the indoor/outdoor flare from one place. Perhaps that's just a south Florida thing. People in Chicago would die for that...well, not in January. Once again, I had booked a band to play here and the owner was especially friendly. I liked him and I liked the club. Kudos Ft.L...I'll be baaaack ! ;)

I love this place. Like to hear hippie bands here that you don't get to see elsewhere. You can always park across the street at the big shopping mall (Target) and then you're fine. It gets crowded when they have good acts, very diverse line up so check them out regularly and support live music! You can go outside for a breather if it gets too hot in the small room.

Small dive type bar to see local and small national acts. Parking could be better there and it doesn't help that its on the corner of a Major Intersection.
