in town on business this week, and I never tried Dish in my previous visit.
I had the honey bourbon burger, cooked medium - perfect- my buddy had the hot brown. Good service. my cup of tea, (a rarity for me, but I have a sore throat), was refilled with hot water. Good service. Good variety. Nice atmosphere. I am looking forward to trying breakfast there this week.

This was one of our stops on the Urban Bourbon Tour.

    Rounding down from 3.5 Stars.

The wait staff were all friendly and accommodating. We didn't order any food and just ordered drinks.

    Bathroom resembled a gas station.

Four stars for food, three stars for service.

The menu has a pretty good mix of delicious looking breakfast options (including the always underrated chicken and waffles), sandwiches, burger, and platters. The last page of the menu also has about 60 different types of bourbon that they serve, from a 2 dollar shot to a 24 dollar shot. Only appropriate for the birth state of bourbon.

The waitress we had, however, could only be called grumpy. She was trying to hold it together for us, but she seemed irritated from the moment we first saw her. And on a not-too-busy Saturday I really can't see why. To her credit, however, she DID make an effort to rework our order so that we combined extras sides into a thing that saved us a few bucks. Even if not, though, I'd eat there again happily, if only to have the pleasure of overhearing a conversation between two jogging suit clad mimosas drinking ladies on one side of us and a first date between college freshmen on the other side.

I can't believe it has taken me so long to try this place, but Louisville is one of the top foodie cities in America and there are so many choices. We had 5 people, a bottle of good wine, three appetizers, a few wines by the glass and entrees and our tab was 120.00. The ménage a trios dip was huge and amazing. Best pimento I have ever tasted, great Benedictine and hummus. The Reuben Egg Rolls were just to die for. One diner raved about her burger, I loved my fish sandwich, and the fried chicken was the bomb and SO  reasonable! Wow, can't wait to return, the menu is great. Quite possibly the best bang for the buck in the entire city!

Love this place! The burgers are to die for, can't miss with the fried chicken but the breakfast has me hooked! Good Bloody Mary, try the Steak n Eggs. The hubs is a regular as he works downtown. He had a bad experience one time that was made right by the owner and then some! I enjoy spending my money where it is appreciated and Dish is one of those places!

We are visiting from California.  We have eaten breakfast here for the last two days at about 9 AM and 10:30 AM.  The service was excellent.  The staff was friendly.  The food was delicious.  We received the order in a timely fashion. We have tried the Truman breakfast, the veggie omelet with cheese grits, and the eggs benedict.  The Truman breakfast comes with a shot of bourbon.  We enjoyed all the dishes.  We highly recommend this place.  The only reason I did not give this 5 starts is because I've not had lunch or dinner menu.  For breakfast it is 5 stars.

To put this into context we travel every month to various parts of the country including San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York City, Kansas City, Tucson, and St. Louis to name a few of the places.  I'm comparing this restaurant to all these visits.

I also visited another restaurant Ghyslain in this town and gave a review of this place.

Met a few friends for Sunday brunch and had a very pleasant experience. Very few people in the restaurant at 11:30am, so the service was fast and friendly.

Everything on the menu looks delicious. I was particularly intrigued by the basic President "Truman's Breakfast" with a shot of bourbon on the side. Three of us decided to split the Skillet Baked Eggs Hot Brown and the Huevos Rancheros. Both were cooked properly, but neither were as savory as I had expected. Adding some Cholula hot sauce helped, as well as on the Veggie Omelette that the fourth in our party ordered for himself. (Look for the photo I posted of all three dishes.)

While I wouldn't describe the food as amazing here, it's one of the best lower-priced restaurants in the downtown area and I would not hesitate to eat here again.

Grrrrrreat happy hour specials daily between 4-7pm. Delicious bourbon flavored anything. Just try it!

I can only love having a great restaurant that's nearby and has the most amazing happy hour I've been to in a long time.

$8 bourbon and a burger.  Not only does it roll off the tongue, it's delicious.  Upon my third visit to this happy hourly place I tried the $3 wine at the bar to accompany the work I was going to do on my laptop using their free wifii.  Unfortunately, the signal was too weak to be used from the bar, but the bartender gets extra points for plugging my computer in for me from the other side of the bar as I'm in desperate need of a laptop battery.

Allowing me to continue my frugal ways was a great start.  The establishment is always clean and they have OPTIONS.  Try the bourbon bbq dipping sauce with the fries.  I usually get a burger with some kind of buffalo topping if I can and sometimes substitute the red meat for chicken.  I have luckily "gotten away" with this $8 decision in the past and hope I can keep it up.

The outdoor patio is great when the weather cooperates and I've allowed my favorite furry friend to accompany me to this AWESOME pup friendly establishment on two occasions already.  They even brought her a little snack with the water bowl.  +2 stars.

We've never had to wait long for an indoor or an outdoor table and they really let you sit where you like.  We've also tried the desserts.  I can never finish them alone for their sheer SIZE- but they are worth every caloric bite.

Dish on Market is a gem for saving in the downtown dining area.  A favorite I will return to often and unpredictably- great hours.

Sunday brunch, kind of quiet downtown, and the homeless guy outside wasn't appetizing.  I got their brunch special bourbon bread pudding french toast--meh.  My husband got the fried egg BLT.  It wasn't a pretzel croissant, it was just a regular croissant.  He likes the egg runny, but it was fully cooked.  He also had the black bean soup which was good.

This was by far and away the best deal we found in the city! Prices on the food was fantastic, $4.75 for a large breakfast, and the food was pretty tasty. The service was one of the more attentive we experienced in a city of poor service, and they were pretty friendly. They do put onions on everything, which made my husband sad but all in all we enjoyed it and would go back.

Discovered Dish on Market during a family trip to Louisville.  Our goal was to enjoy a Friday night dinner in a place the kids could feel they'd had a Louisville night out without doing the 4th Street Live-thing.  Dish delivered!

We arrived around 6pm and were quickly seated at an upstairs table where we could view the main bar.  Separated dining areas with long tables make bringing kids-who-know-how-to-dine-in-public a breeze.

We enjoyed both live musicians - unintrusive ambience. The brick walls and wrought iron, the creative bourbon menu, offer a local, down-to-earth feel.  The location on Market Street keeps Dish from feeling like a slick, meat market spot while being a well-lit 4 block walk from as far as the Springhill Suites on Jefferson.

Having visited many city downtowns, we were thrilled with the reasonable prices on both food and drink. Kids loved their burgers and fries.  Kid's menu chicken strips are tender.  The side salad I chose instead of fries was a pleasant surprise:  mixed greens, sliced egg, vinaigrette dressing... not a flat bowl of iceberg.

My Hot Brown Burger was juicy and just the right amount of smoky with a slice of grilled turkey, bacon, and mornay sauce.  And before you wail "three slabs o meat?!", I assure you the turkey and bacon are in perfect proportion to the burger and not as overwhelming as it may sound.  Our entire table raved over these burgers.

Mind-boggling low drink specials include $2 Benchmark Bourbon, $3 Wines, and $2 Falls City local craft beer.  The Whiskey Sours are great and so was the service from both our server and the manager.

Be sure to note the Breakfast Buffet is only on weekends and has a small local following - heard the Pecan French Toast is awesome.

Very disappointing, grubby, run-down, shabby restaurant.  Tried to eat here twice, but was ignored by the staff when I came in/wanted to be seated.

It's tough to find places that are open to eat in in Louisville (especially on the weekend - go figure), which is why I visited twice, but I decided I'd take my cash elsewhere to a restaurant who really wanted my business.

I eat here for lunch about once a month.  This is a good lunch place - they serve breakfast all day, good selection of sandwiches, fries are very good, etc.  I've had the fried chicken and waffles (very good, but you have to be in the mood), grilled chicken sandwiches, and a burger.  I haven't been disappointed yet.

In addition, this place is on the Urban Bourbon Trail and usually has a pretty good bourbon special ($2.50 for a decent bourbon).

I was in Louisville on business and was looking for some breakfast options other than the overpriced hotel buffet. This place was nearby, so I tried it. I wasn't disappointed. I've read other Yelpers' posts about bad service and inconsistent food, so I must have caught them on a good day. I went with just a basic breakfast, scrambled eggs, bacon, home fries and a biscuit. First, the plain buttermilk biscuit with butter was good enough to prompt me to order a side of biscuits and gravy. The scrambled eggs were cooked perfectly, the bacon was crisp and not too fatty and the home fries were well spiced and had a good crust to them from the flat top. Everything I had was right on, and the waitress was prompt and attentive. I'd definitely eat here again next time I'm in Louisville.

Interesting little place.  We stopped in around 10:30 on a Saturday night to grab some late late dinner and a couple of drinks.  It was nearly dead; there were only a handful of people at the bar.  Despite that, the food wasn't bad and the prices were very reasonable.  It took a bit to get our food but it may have just seemed that way because I was pretty hungry.  The mixed drinks we ordered we made with care and tasted fantastic.  The menu is surprisingly large and you can order off the breakfast menu any old time!  I had the spicy black bean veggie burger with fries.  While good and huge, it was pretty messy and the fries were a little limp and greasy.  My boyfriend had some type of BBQ shrimp that covered several pieces of french bread.  Both dishes were around $9 for a ton of food, which seems to be about the average meal price.  We also had mint juleps and a drink called Run For the Roses (champagne and St. Germain) and didn't spend much more than $30.  Overall, a good value for the money.

When Dish is good it is great but when it is bad it is really bad and unfortunatly I have learned that Dish's biggest downfall is its inconsistency.  Yes, there are times when I go to Dish on a Sunday morning, saunter directly to a booth with no wait, receive attentive service, and am served delicious food.  However, there are also times when the line is out the door and they still aren't seating people at every table.  There are also times when the pancakes are so dense that they are nearly inedible.  There are times when even after we are sat it takes the waitress nearly half an hour to acknowledge our presence and a full hour to bring us our food.  If only I could count on a five star experience every time I would continue to come back week after week without any qualms.  Or if only I knew that Dish would always be horrible I would cross them off of my list of breakfast options and always go elsewhere.  But no, instead they alternate between being that amazing place I'm always searching for and being the worst dining experience I've ever had.  So I come when the food is amazing, come again and am disappointed, wait a while until I forget the disappointment then come again and am pleased, and the cycle continues.  Oh Dish.. can't you please get it right every time.. or just flop once and for all?

I have been a faithful customer of dish since they opened.  I stuck by them figuring every new restaurant has some kinks to work out. They should have them worked out by now but they don't.  The food, when cooked properly allbeit rarely, is delicious and is what keeps me coming back.  But the rapidly changing menu is more confusing than ever and the servers are terrible.  I have been in the restaurant with only one other customer and it has taken over an hour to get a burger; my coworkers won't eat there because it took two hours to order breakfast; I have had servers completely mess up my order and not even apologize, bartenders not know how to make drinks on THEIR menu. I finally had it this morning, called to place a to-go order 4 times with no answer, get to the restaurant within 10 minutes and only 3 customers there. The server was freaking out at her work load.  So I place my order and she argues with me over what I KNOW I want to order. Biscuts & gravy, scrambled eggs, toast and fruit. Not hard. Sure enough it comes out wrong.  My biscuts and gravy order is only half, my toast isn't toasted, and my scrambled eggs are overcooked.  How you mess up toast I have no idea.

This place is great, they delivery to the downtown hotels, have great prices, good food and reasonable delivery times.

The salads are great and the cole slaw is top shelf.  I know cole slaw is highly personalized, but I liked this one.  Worth a try for sure.

The fish tacos are nice, three for $9, good pricing and well filled with plenty of fish.

Changing my rating, the last several deliveries have shown that they constantly forget items.  Dressing, sauce, something.  Getting old, dropping my rating to 2 stars.  Delivery has gotten MUCH slower as well.

Restaurant looked and had the feel of a small bar. I ordered breakfast. Waffle and eggs. They were both overcooked.  The waffles were dry and crunchy. Eggs fried too hard and browned.

The food was just okay, but our overall service made the whole experience terrible! Our server was really bad, she got our order confused when she put the food down, she never came back to ask if our food was okay and thank god there was silverware at the table behind us because we didn't have any and she never came back. My friend wanted a refill of her tea and she never got it because the waitress never came back, in fact we had to go to the hostess stand to get our check and pay. We asked for a manager, there were. I apologies no nothing. Our waitress finally appeared at he stand and we were able to pay but again no apology nothing. We will not be returning and I'll be surprised if they stay open another year with all the great restaurants we have downtown. The service here is not good. Don't go!

I didn't get the hipster feel from this place, but we went on a Saturday afternoon. Actually I would never have guessed this was a hipster place had the bartender not recommended Hammerheads to someone out of town, which is about as hipster as this town gets. So on to the review. I knew the menu looked interesting but due to lower reviews I figured something was up. The menu has some unique items that sound amazing  plus the drink menu is separated by time of day which was a nice touch. We had the biscuit and gray, bread pudding french toast, and eggs hot brown.  A ton of things I would like to try but I felt these would give us the big picture. Gravy was good, biscuit was over cooked and dried out so maybe 2/5. French toast had extremely high expectations. The flavor was very interesting , but seemed way to dense. Bread pudding IMO should be lighter than that and had it actually been hot it may be way better than what we got. Eggs hot brown may be the best idea I had never thought of before today. It had all the ingredients and some of the flavor it needed, but fell short on quality. I would have liked thick pieces of turkey and big slice of tomato.....basically great idea not executed like it should have been. Price is not bad less than $25 for two, but we both left saying the same thing. I bet if Wild Eggs made those same dishes they would have been amazing and definitely worth going back. I did find it interesting they are open late friday and saturday, and for late night food I would actually put them way up on the list. I would return to try the rest of the menu items I find interesting, but only for late night dining.

Had a great experience eating here for dinner tonight. Because of the location, which I think mainly caters to a lunchtime crowd, there were not many patrons in the restaurant tonight. I always like a crowd, so that iis the only (slightly) negative thing I could say about dish.

Some of the other reviewers have mentioned poor service, but our server Antoine was very attentive and brought our drinks out immediately. Our wine (a six dollar pinot noir) did leave a little to be desired, but I thought it was fine. Of course my moms beer was perfect.

I got the fried chicken and requested white meat only, and while sometimes restaurants will not let you do that, it was no problem tonight. The fried chicken was excellent - hot, moist, and flavorful. My mom loved the fish tacos and my dad loved the hot brown.

I can't wait to go back for brunch, lunch, or breakfast. For food and service, I highly recommend. For a weekday dinner, if you are looking for a crowd, this is probably not the best place to go downtown, but if you want amazing comfort food, this is one of the best spots in Louisville.

Terrible!  We were in town for a conference of about 8,000 which apparently took the entire staff of this restaurant by surprise.  We were in the restaurant for 1 hour and 15 minutes to get breakfast and ended up being late for our first session.  At the end of an excruciating 5 more minutes ordeal the manager came over and apologized for it "taking a little longer than normal".  There was no offer to comp anything and the whole establishment seemed completely confused that people wanted to eat breakfast there that morning.

If you walk into this restaurant and see a line do yourself a favor and turn around and walk out.  Unacceptable!

The food that I tried was pretty good. I had lunch with a party of 4 and the 3 order of fries were pathetic. I was truely blown away that our waitress would even serve it to us. Needless to say, she provided several excuses about the quality of food.

I would give the place another shot even though the service was non-commital. I think the food is good enough to give it another chance.

Dish is the type of place I really love because it seems to perfectly cater to my needs on a regular basis. First off, the downtown location is great. It's convenient, but just enough off the beaten path that it doesn't attract a lot of attention. Which is the next great point: this place is never crowded. Come here for brunch, dinner, weekends, whenever, there is never a wait. And finally, the biggest selling point is this place is ridiculously cheap.

It is almost comical to me that on our last visit here, the total bill for my wife and I for dinner was $18.55. That included two iced teas at $1 each. Prefer something harder with dinner? No problem, cocktails are actually pretty solid and around $6 and beers are cheap too, with Falls City normally $2.50, I believe and often on special for $2.

I love this place so much that I would like to give it five stars but unfortunately there are just some inconsistencies. As I mentioned above, this place is usually pretty empty. However, on my last visit, for a Saturday night dinner, the place was actually near capacity and really struggled. My party was not in a rush, so it was no big deal, but definitely not quick or very attentive service.

I've probably eaten here or ordered from here for late night work sessions around six times now and the food is definitely consistently very good. Some dishes are more successful than others but I definitely enjoy the Market Street Burger and the Elena Ruth sandwich. If you are going here, I would just have a good time, enjoy the basement-bottom pricing and set your expectations accordingly, considering the great experience you are getting for the price.

For me, Dish fills the perfect niche and I would not want it to change too much because it is now currently my best standby option. It is always there for me and will always be a great option if I am not in the mood to try any new places. If you haven't been yet, give it a try; it is likely it will find its way into your normal rotation as well.

The burger was bland but the fancy diner-esque feel and prices weren't shabby at all. The service was very slow and a couple who sat down 10 - 12 min after we got there got their fish and chips before we did. I thought that was odd since fish takes longer to cook. I was also not impressed with the fries. They weren't a full sized fry and I ended up having to eat them with a fork. I'm going to eat here one more time and see if I can get a better experience because I really enjoyed the atmosphere. if not then you will be seeing me writing another review with an even lower rating.

Dish is really a quality place to eat downtown. They have a great breakfast (which we frequently have delivered), a wide selection of bakery items, and excellent burgers. The value cannot be overstated. You can get a burger/sandwich here for less than you'd pay at Subway. Another bonus is that the owners are actively involved in the business offering a personal touch. The kitchen staff is adventurous and will make just about anything you request.

This is a great spot to hit downtown - conveniently located on Market and it is cheap and quick. $6.25 for a pretty damn good sandwich and chips - that is what you're going to spend at Arby's. Even more at Panera! I can't speak to the wide array of sandwiches as of yet, since I tend to go back to the old faithful Elena Ruth with turkey, strawberry jam, swiss, and cream cheese. YUM! It isn't too sweet, the cream cheese and jam are added with caution, but they add a nice, unique flavor to the sammich.  Not a big fan of the chips, but I'm not really a chip person. They are the homemade ones and others seemed to love them. I like the french fries better :)

I do like the atmosphere too. While it is set up to where if you are taking a work lunch and need in and out they can take care of you, there are also plenty of corners and tables and balconies where if you want to chill out and talk and catch up that is perfectly fine as well - that is the way I roll!

They did it.  I've been a fan of Dish since i started working downtown, but have seen the kitchen struggling along with an "I think I can" attitude, and a "You might want to reschedule your afternoon appointments" outcome.  Tiny kitchen plus full house often meant unpleasantness that led our lunch crew to seek out bluer horizons.  But we wanted to go back - after all the food is excellent.  I was promised changes were coming, but I held out hope as to what that meant.  We decided to try it to day, and were jumping up and down.

My personal favorite dish here is the salmon hash - but try a salad and discover that they succeed in keeping the greens decadent...the cobb salad especially is something you don't want to tell your weight lost counselor about.

Burgers are thick and juicy - and almost everything on the menu that I'm able to try is superb.  The menu's big for such a small place - but each day they succeed in executing the menu deliciously.

This is a lunch place - sure - and you'll find it full at lunchtime most days.  But try Dish as your dinner or after-work drinks place - and find yet another treat.  Cheap drinks form one of the best happy hours around town - along with a creative menu that builds on the lunch menu, and adds steaks with choices too many to begin to mention...or consider eating.

I stopped at Dish for breakfast and was pleasantly surprised. My server recommended the Steak and Eggs and Bread Pudding French Toast, so I got both because I couldn't resist how good she made them sound (also because I cant pass on anything with bread pudding). The steak was tender and juicy and the hash casserole was a fantastic addition. The french toast was a sweet cap to my morning and I'm sure my friend was thankful that I ordered too much food because she enjoyed it as well.

I returned a few days later at night to have dinner before a show at Actor's Theater and ordered the Fish and Chips and I loved it (dont forget to ask for vinegar!). The plate was fully loaded with a big scrumptious piece of Cod, cole slaw, and crispy fries. A satisfying amount of food at a reasonable price. Ill definitely be back.

Overall a bad experience. My friend ordered a "market burger," and what came out was a plain hamburger without even cheese. Just lettuce and tomato on the side. I ordered a Caesar salad, and it was the worst one I've ever had. I don't think it can even be classified as a Caesar  given what it tasted and looked like. We should have gotten breakfast- it looked pretty good. But, we probably would have ended up with just plain waffles, no syrup or anything.

It was ok.  Definitely a step up from when it was Delta.  I was not a fan of the lack of variety.  I never felt like I had reasonable choice.  Seems like a lot of fried stuff and the salads are a little overpriced.

I went here for brunch and tried the chicken and waffles. The chicken was great--lightly breaded and freshly made. The waffles were a little dry but went well with the chicken. It was my first time trying this combination and I loved the salty and sweet contrast between the syrup and buffalo like sauce. Service was good and prices were very reasonable.

Whhhhaaaaat? You did not know Dish did dinner?! To be honest neither did I. What I will tell you is I have never waited to be sat even on a busy brunch morning.

This place is very cash reasonable feel with a level up from diner status. While mostly every thing is fried (my 3 star status for variety) the restaurant does offer a great deal of Burger and Bourbon for $10.

I got the steak 11 ways with Barn Trio and realized I could trade down for a little chicken, this will make me feel less guilty about the dessert I am going to order.
This place is a can't miss for a week day night!

Slow service.  Crummy music, but at least it's not too loud.  Greek salad needs more pita bread.  Next time, I'll ask for it, if I have to go back.

Oil and vinegar dressing is poor, like Subway.  Next time, I'll ask for something else.

    Good: low prices.

I'm sure I'll be back here because of the proximity to our apartment, and the wide variety and low prices on the menu. However, I had to give it only 3 stars because I ordered the eggs benedict, and one of my poached eggs was completely cooked through (hard yolk) and the other was undercooked (i touched it with my fork and it exploded yolk and uncooked white). Everyone else I was with really enjoyed there food, and the menu has a lot of options. And the eggs benedict were actually good, but cooking eggs incorrectly (and to such opposite extremes!) will only give it three stars for now.

Great food for the price point and the staff is friendly.  I tried a Cuban melt with jam and it was actually very good. The chips were also good; but i think I would substitute for something else next time. I just feel that unless the chips are homemade, I could buy a bag of chips from a grocery store.

They appeared to have limited seating outside, but with all of the rain that Louisville is getting, sitting inside would probably be the better option. The interior has a Irish pub ambiance. The bar/restaurant is very long and narrow with the bar on one side and booths on the other. The place is kept in very pristine condition and I found the bar to be very comfortable. They also have plenty of flat screens to watch sports, if that is your thing.

If you are touring downtown Louisville and need a quick bite to eat at a price that won't break your budget, I would recommend getting one street off the main drag and stopping in at the Dish on Market.

I know that I will be swinging by here the next time I am in Louisville.

A great downtown spot for a casual, quick business lunch or post-work cocktails with friends or co-workers.  Food is definitely above-average for the price point, and service is attentive and unobtrusive.  A handful of breakfast items are available throughout the day, and weekends feature a very affordable and filling brunch menu.  Drink specials for Happy Hour daily.
