FireFresh BBQ

This is not a bad place to eat. It's just that when you grew up an hour from Memphis it is difficult to get excited about anything but exceptional barbecue. I mainly stick to the pulled pork sandwich (because you don't order a ribeye at McDonald's), and if it isn't swimming in sauce I can't stomach it. The beans are actually pretty good, and the fries are even better.

First time to visit FireFresh BBQ, and it was packed when our group arrived at 12:00. My initial thought was the place must be pretty good if it's this crowded. Granted, it's in downtown Louisville and the place was full of business folks on their lunch break (me included). I ordered the Code 3 Value Meal--pulled chicken sandwich with 1 side (I had baked beans) and a drink for $6.49. The beans were really good.  The soft drink quenched my thirst. The sauce selections on the table were nice to have, everything from Sweet BBQ to Hazmat. The chicken--yeah, it was pulled alright, just not sure from where! Rather dry with not much flavor. Definitely a local place to try, I may go get something other than pulled chicken and perhaps my opinion will change. The cashier was awfully cute!  1/2 star for that!

Nice to have a no-frills locally-owned BBQ joint downtown. Nothing I've tried has really impressed, but it's a decent lunch with quick service. I do get the sense that they've put more effort into the flavor of the four different sauces available at every table than seasoning the various meat options. I thought the chicken was nice and tender, the ribs nothing special, and the brisket downright bland. I wouldn't go out of my way, but if you're downtown FireFresh offers a fine break from the sandwich and pizza joints.
