This is by far my favorite lunch spot in the city. I look for any excuse I can to go there. I typically alternate between the California and Beets and Goat Cheese salads. With a sprinkling of the three varieties of salt always available on the table and a little bread and butter, these salads make the perfect meal.
I branched out on my last trip and tried the vegetarian focaccia with a side of beets. Each bite melted in my mouth.
I've tried no less than four of the desserts and I don't think you could go wrong with any of them. Pair those with a pot of French press coffee and you'll be in heaven.
Ghyslain has become one of my favorite NULU lunch spots for two reasons. One, it offers ample parking (rescuing me from the embarrassment of a bad parallell parking job). Two, they have counter service so I don't feel bad taking up someone's table when I type away on my laptop for a couple hours after I finish my meal (although they only have one plug in the entire place). Ghsylain is the perfect combination of a cafe and a restaurant.
I really enjoy their chicken pot pie and the Italian baguette which is an open faced baguette served with chicken, pesto, basil, mozzarella, and tomato  (although I think $11 or $12 for these items is a little steep). They also serve a multitude of delicious desserts and pastries. If you love chocolate mousse, I highly recommend trying to Trois Chocolat. It's killer. As far as beverages are concerned, as a barista, it puts me off a little that they serve espresso drinks but do not have a real espresso machine. So if you're craving coffee, I suggest ordering the French Press coffee instead of a latte or cappuccino.
Regardless, I love the variety that Ghyslain offers its customers. From breakfast, lunch, and dessert options to wine, coffee, and sodas, this place really is great for a multitude of different occasions.
One word... Gelato!
WOW WOW WOW!
Note - Sunday Mornings aren't terribly busy if you need a trendy spot to do a casual brunch with your sweetie... Our order got lost in the shuffle (which happens) and the owner and/or manager was kind enough to comp our gelato on our way out.
Its okay if a restaurant makes a mistake as long as they do what they can to make up for it. I am not the type to complain in order to get free stuff.
I appreciated the service and the food, as always is delicious!
Go eat there!!!
