Poor people in Louisville eat a ton of fried chicken and hot dogs. At least I assume this is the case, since these places are everywhere. And yes, it's probably killing them. And me.
But I dig Red's. Five reasons.
One, they go out of their way to dress the dog in *class*. If you're gonna do dogs, do it right. They have Chicago dogs; beef dogs with sauerkraut, tomato, and spicy mustard; turkey dogs with mustard & bleu cheese; turkey dogs with jalapenos, sour cream, mustard & relish, etc. The vegetarian baked beans are delish. They serve a house-made slaw. They also have brownies and cobbler and fried cheese if you're not killing yourself fast enough.
Two, they serve a Julep Hills Ice Cold Lemonade Slush. This beverage is glorious and minty and has saved my life on a couple of really hot days this summer. I want to retire to this Julep Hills place.
Three, the menu says: "Barbecue Chicken Sandwich Topped w/creamy cole slaw (Delicious)". That is an exact quote.
Four, it's in an old Fotomat building. It's like getting food from a taco truck without wheels.
Five, every time I get my order, they tell me, "Thank you for eating local!" If I'm consuming cheap nitrates, it should definitely be *local* nitrates.
