So I went to Dressel's last night with a group of four other ladies.
What I Had:
Mocha Martini -- Pretty darn good. Strong.
Cosmo - yep, traditionalist, couldn't finish this because the mocha martini started setting in. It was a lot smoother (as it should be!) than some of the other restaurants and bars I've been to (Novaks I'm looking at you!)
Homemade Potato Chips - not as wowed by these as other people seem to be. Were they good? Yes. Were they great? No. Billy Goat Chips will always be my fave... They do come with malt vinegar, rarebit, and housemade ketchup... but still? Not for me.
White Chicken Chili - Oh. Wow. I was so full... but just kept wanting to finish eating it... I couldn't though. So I took it to go and wound up eating it really late last night. hahaha
Truffled Grilled Cheese - SO good and I could taste the truffle (I know that's been a complaint from others). Subtle, but there.
Service:
I always feel judged when you JUST hit the "we reserve the right to add gratuity to parties of 5 or more...." because I've found that when they do it depends on what you're wearing, who you're with, etc. Last night? Apparently this group of my friends seems like cheapskates because they added the tip in. One of my friends didn't notice this and the waitress (my friend gave her $60 for a $50 bill) didn't say anything though clearly if 20% Â (it may have been 15% added... I forget) was already added you probably wouldn't give an extra 20% on top... My friend realized when someone else at our table commented about them doing this.
Funny thing? I'm always a really good tipper - usually around 25% because I worked in the food business in high school.... It is what it is though. I still gave her more than what she pre-authorized.
Other than that? It was a good night.
I went to Dressel's twice in one weekend trip to St. Louis. That should tell you how great it was. On the first trip, we had lunch and drinks. I got the fish and chips and my boyfriend got the bahn mi plate. Both were delicious. They have a large selection of beers on tap, so of coursed we had a few while there!
We came back the next morning for brunch, and thought it was even better than the day before. I started with a homemade bloody mary, and ordered the french toast. It was delicious! Fresh Texas toast bread with real maple syrup and a side of breakfast potatoes and sausage--fabulous! My boyfriend ordered the cheese biscuits with chorizo sausage gray, and it was wonderful too! We will definitely be back on our next visit in town!
