It's easy to overlook El Corralito among the other Lawrence Ave. taquerias, but take a look at their menu and see that nearly half of it is devoted to freshly squeezed juices, licuados, and agua frescas. Â I'm sure that in the summer, this is a great place to go for their drinks. Â The rest of their menu is pretty basic - tacos, tortas, sopes, gorditas, etc., as well as breakfast and dinner items.
For lunch, I ordered a chorizo & potato huarache. Â A huarache is an oblong-shaped fresh masa dough, either griddled or fried, and topped with your choice of ingredients. Â My huarache was griddled, which made it more of a "knife and fork" type of meal. Â It was topped with pinto beans, chorizo, potatoes, tomatillo salsa, queso fresco, onion, and cilantro. Â The chorizo was delicious, not at all greasy, with bits of chile flakes throughout. Â
I also ordered a granola licuado, which was surprisingly good. Â It wasn't thick like a milkshake, but had the flavor and consistency of horchata. Â I tasted almond, cinnamon, and milk. Â A refreshing sweet drink that went well with the spicy huarache. Â There are a few other menu items that I want to try (like the mollejas quesadilla), so I'll update my review later on.
