Stopped in here based in the great reviews, and I was not disappointed!  5 of us had burgers, chicken sandwiches, and grilled cheese. All were excellent and served with great fries and dipping sauce:). Can't wait to be back in Philadephia and check out more of their beers. That have an awesome selection, but I was driving last time.

If you like Belgian-style ale and craft beer and live within driving distance of downtown Philly, I am sure you know of this place. And if you don't, I recommend that you find out. Their beer menu looks like a phone book, so make sure you have a way of getting home that doesn't involve driving (train, cab, pregnant wife). Seating is limited, so Thursday-Friday night expect to stand for a while, but its worth the wait.

One of my Philly faves, we always stop in for a meal and a brew...they usually have at least one work of art on tap, and there is an excellent bottle menu. Seating can seem tight with a short bar downstairs and another 10 seater upstairs, with some tightly packed small tables crammed in between the doors, but the intimacy can be enjoyed as much as endured...especially as the food is top notch.

One of my last meals on earth would be the moules dijon (w/ extra bread) and Beneluxx (insert trademark) Belgian Frietjes from Eulogy. I simply die!

Moules - fresh and plump. Dijon sauce is dotted thick with mustard seeds with good tang yet balanced with cream. If you share, you'll fight over the rest of the sauce. If you eat the sauce all by yourself you could possibly end up with a tummy ache (in a happy way).

Frietjes - best fries I've had in Philly! If you're into steak fries, you're into these.

Do I need to mention the beer selection? As if you didn't already know. Milk Stout from Left Hand Brewing Co. and an interesting Chestnut brew from Italy that I've always been curious about trying (can't get over the $16 price tag).

How did I end up here?  Well, on a beach trip to fire island, we were all discussing the best cheeseburger we've ever had.  Two people in the room, neither of whom lives within 100 miles of philadelphia, named eulogy.  If that didn't pique my interest enough, the words "Belgian tavern" strike a beer-soaked chord with me.

So upon my return, I called up a friend in philly, and we picked a date for dinner.

My burger-pilgrimage involved a two (or more?) hour trip on various trains, but eventually I arrived, met my friend, and off we went.  Possibly the longest I've ever travelled for such a simple food item.  It's in a nice neighborhood, and the place itself has a great vibe.  We were seated upstairs, and presented with a beautiful beer list containing a mix of rare old favorites and a few close friends, and most importantly, exciting new things to try.  So I started off happy.  After some beer and snacks, I ordered this cheeseburger, and I will say it was one of the better burgers I've had at any pub.  Juicy and delicious.  Doesn't quite match park tavern (see -that- review), but it's close enough that if you're in philly already I'd wager it's your best choice.

So, five stars for a place to which I can make a two-plus-hour each way pilgrimage and be happy that I did.  And once again, my compliments on the tap list.

This is where is the song 99 bottles of beer on the wall comes from. In this case they're draft beers and there's more than 99 possibly. This place was great! Went on a weeknight and tried a few new-to-me beers. Also had the grilled cheese w bacon and some mussels which I was surprisingly a fan of. If you're looking for something specific and just want to chill Eulogy is the place. If they don't have it no place in the city does. Beer list is a little overwhelming for sure. Maybe not the place you take your non-adventurous coors light drinking friend.

Amazing beer selection, especially if you enjoy Belgian beers.  Dark and dingy but in a fun way, if that's possible.  Staff very friendly and helpful.  Mussels are delicious and so was the burger.  Loved the beer-geek atmosphere and will definitely recommend to those who travel to Philly.

It was Beer Week in Philly so my gf and I wanted some good food and craft beers (well, she wanted the beer). We went to Eulogy because their beer list is CRAZY long. She got a few beers off of their Beer Week menu which made her very happy :) She loves a good sour ale. I had my usually, Diet Coke which surprisingly tasted the same as it does when it's NOT beer week. Weird. Anyway, I ordered the Rib eye steak which was really big, and pretty good. They serve it atop a pile of mashed potatoes that have some carrots mixed in with them. They were ok, but sort of taste like they may be just sitting around waiting for an order and heated up. Defininetly not made to order. The steak, was really good so I wasn't really complaining too much. My gf got the meatball appetizer and she liked it very much. I would absolutely go back here again. It was a little small, but the other patrons were cool and respectful of the small space. FYI, the parking on the block of Chestnut Street stops after a certain time at night, maybe 7pm? There are signs posted, so pay attention. The Philadelphia Parking Authority trolls around and WILL hit you up if you park there after the posted time.

Eulogy is old city (old school) all the way.  The beer list is extensive and almost overwhelming.  There is nothing you will want that they don't carry.  This merits 4 stars.  What killed the 4th star, however, were the frittes: huge cut fries more akin to what you'd find in a Fuddruckers. really? Come on guys.  Otherwise, this hipster bar is a wonderful place to hang out, meet people and enjoy really good beer.  3 almost 4 stars.  I was especially impressed when they found me a bottle of scaldis noel upon request, out of season no less. Kudos to the bar keep!

I've never been a huge fan of Old City, but from time to time I make the trip to Eulogy. The beer selection is fantastic, the atmosphere is dark yet inviting.  The staff is knowledgable about the beers, and the fries with the dipping sauces are addictive. I would highly recommend this bar if you choose to venture into Old City and want quality without the douchebagery.

My friend Anne and I discovered this place by total accident! We had been walking around the city all day, site seeing ,and I was pretty beat. I just wanted to sit down, charge my phone and have a cold beer. We had seen a few places but I had walked by this one and noticed it was dark (out of the sun / cooler temp) and there was a little table vacant inside, right by the wall (aka near an outlet). Score! I grabbed the table and started to charge my phone. It just so happens, this place had a HUGELY extensive beer list. Again, SCORE! I really like good beer. I'm not a Miller Lite / Bud Lite kinda girl. I'm more a Delirium Tremens girl and/or other cool, funky and flavorful beers. This place had a bunch of cool beers. We just told the server to bring us something interesting! We really liked the vibe here. It was like a "regular" neighborhood bar, away from all the tourists. Even though we ourselves are from Chicago, sometimes you just want to chill with the locals and escape all the craziness. This place had a chill vibe and I liked the kinda gothic / moody decor. Cool place.

It's super dark and dingy, but what it lacks in ambiance, it makes up for in beer...400 (or maybe more?) beers, in fact.  It's actually ridiculously hard to choose, but the wait staff is fairly knowledgeable and will do their best to point you to a beer you would like.

The mussels are also to die for.  There are six choices of sauce (dijon is definitely the best) and you can get either a pound or two pounds for a reasonable price.  You can also get a ridiculously large plate of fries (with a sauce of your choice) to share for $5.

I'm not a huge beer guy, but the waiter recommended an awesome Belgian beer.

Also, the Mussels were incredible. I recommend the Dijon mussels.

The atmosphere is old school, rustic, and authentic.

When I see Belgian and Beer in the same sentence, I become uncontrollably excited. It could have something to do with nostalgia, Belgian-style beers being the first alcohol I ever liked, or it could have to with some fun albeit wild nights I spent in Brussels and Bruges, trying all the local flavor. I've been to that Belgian beer mecca, Delirium, and was filled with half-recalled memories at the sight of a little 'Delirium' sign buzzing in the corner of the bar at Eulogy

Eulogy does most everything well. Their happy hour special is a good deal, but nothing too exciting unfortunately: $3.50 drafts of Stella, Hoegaarden, and Palm, all great selections but nothing you haven't had before. If you look past the specials, their bottle and draft list are both nauseatingly extensive (the happy kind of nauseous). Their sandwich menu looked good, so I plan on going back for a meal one of these days. I will say, however, that the entree selections was only mildly appealing (Belgian Fish n' Chips, for example, isn't something I'm eager to drop ten or fifteen bucks on).

Eulogy is a top 5 Philadelphia happy hour, in my opinion, simply because I like all 3 of their special drafts. The service is brisk, perhaps a little too brisk, but I understand it's a popular haunt with a horde of regulars, which is certainly a tax on the overworked staff who get a fair amount of exercise running up and down the stairs to and from the second floor dining area. I'll definitely be back.

If you like beer, you like this place.  They have everything imaginable.  I also like how they have a beer list and make fun of bud lite on it.  The atmosphere is dark and very cozy.  I feel like it matches the personality of any beer fan.  I have been here multiple times, but never eaten there.  The food I see come out, never really looks good.  Again, I can't comment on that because I've never tried it.

Also, Dave the bartender is awesome.  He's super friendly, funny, and knows more about beer then any human should.  He will guide you in the direction you're looking for.  So if you aren't a beer expert, you'll never be made to feel dumb.

Charming, dimly lit European watering hole that happens to have a great menu. My boyfriend had the fish and chips, which were solid, but nothing to yelp about. I had the seared duck in raspberry beer reduction sauce, which was reminiscent of an entree found in a "finer" establishment whose main focus isn't beer. A great surprise. As everyone else says, the beer is good, but I always think food is more important. I'm sure my boyfriend would give the place 3 stars after his lackluster fish and chips, but I really liked my duck.

4 stars for beer, 2 stars for food.
Obviously the (bottled) beer list here is awesome.  Hands-down, awesome.
The draft list? There isn't one.  There was a small sign on the wall with a list of beers on tap - no descriptions, no prices.
I got the veggie burger, which comes with a side salad.  First off, by definition, I think "salad" implies lettuce and some toppings.   This "salad" was merely a pile of lettuce.  Nothing else.  I'm serious - no vegetables on top.  Not even a tomato.  Nothing.
My veggie burger was bland and doughy on the inside.  It tasted like unseasoned potato.  Imagine biting into a baked potato that has no salt, pepper, butter, etc.  That's the only thing I can liken this veggie burger to.  It had to have been added to the menu as an afterthought - like "oh shit, we have nothing for vegetarians... what can we throw together?".
I really wanted to like Eulogy because I love beer and I love Old City.
Maybe I'll come back for beer.  Definitely never for food.

Happy Hour 5pm - 7pm Every Day.  Like France is to cheese, Belgium is to beer and it's right here at Eulogy Belgian Tavern in Old City where 300 international and domestic craft brewed bottle beer, along with 21 draught beers is served everyday with a menu that delivers award winning Belgian & American Foods. Seating is first come first serve, but you can get a reservation online, but may be limited.  I enjoyed the Sierra Nevada Ovila Golden, because I have a bit of a devilish personality.  I also like that some of the proceeds of this Ale goes toward the historic Santa Maria de Ovila chapter house on the grounds of the Abbey of New Clairvaux.  To be a part of preserving history while enjoying a delicious abbey ale is a plus.  Either way it's a win-win for everyone. I was torn between rating this restaurant two and three stars. The atmosphere and service were really "meh," we ate upstairs at a small cramped dark table. There is no decor to speak of and the place seemed dirty/divey.

The beer selection is above average, with a whole menu full of bottle choices and a selection of beers on draft. However, unlike most of the other craft/Belgian beer places, they don't have a listing of what is currently on tap with a description of beer styles and alcohol content. There was an incomplete list of drafts on the glass mirror but it only listed beer names so you are left to having to ask the server about each of the beers, To her credit, our server did describe the beers when asked and even offered us samples to try. But it would have been nice to have this info all printed up or just available on a blackboard, and would have saved time as well as our server having to run up and downstairs with samples for us.

As to food, my husband's burger came out practically raw though it was ordered medium. The mussels in mustard sauce were very good. The fries are ok but nothing to write home about.

All in all, I don't think this is a restaurant I will return to.

If you cannot find a beer you like on the menu then you will never find one you like. The menu offers a huge selection. I wanted a dark beer and I tried the Evolution Prelude Black, not bad I like this. Then I gave the Bells Kalamazoo a try and it was very good. Everyone in the group sample a few different a enjoyed them. Did not eat here but the food smelled good going by. Overall downstairs sit at the bar and drink with a few tables for eating at. Upstairs had another bar. Nice atmosphere good time.

Beer.  Lots and lots of beer.
If you can't find it at Eulogy you'll have a hard time finding it in Philly.
My only complaint is the space. It's tiny but it sort of adds to it's appeal in a way too.
If you are a beer fanatic, you have to try this place.

I found some really great new beers here, and learned about some regional ones too!

Firstly - I discovered Fruli here - which is a strawberry beer from Germany. After browsing through their extensive beer selection, I went on a fruit beer binge and tried a bunch of different ones. It was so much fun and a great experience. The Fruli beer even comes in a Fruli glass! How cool!!

I came here on a Saturday night and we were able to be seated quickly - in a small booth by the door on the first floor. It was cold (February), but we had a good time, and felt lucky to have a nice place to chat and drink lots of different beers all in peace!

Downstairs is bar-ordering, and I think the upstairs is table service. It's not mega-crowded, and the beers are really wonderful. It's more divey looking (dark, not "modern high end" decor) but is really friendly and nice!

Stop by after dinner, or come for food. I didn't get to try any food but next time I'll be sure to!

I'm giving Eulogy a 4 for the atmosphere and beer. This place has a great beer selection for all of you craft-beer lovers out there, a sizable draft list and bottle selection so they have a little something for everyone.

The food is pretty pricey...My jaw almost hit the floor when we saw our bill and my boyfriend's sub-par Fish and Chips were $16! He was not too impressed with his, but we both thought my burger was pretty good...and at $8.99, the price was a little easier to stomach!. It was a Best of Philly winner and it is a great sandwich with "secret spices" that really give it a different flavor than any other burger I've had. I couldn't hone in on the exact spices, but the flavor was almost lamb-like. If you're a picky eater going for a boring, "regular" burger, stay away from this one. This is a very unique burger, so have an open-mind if you decide to go for it.

I'd think about giving Eulogy another try because the rest of the menu looked pretty impressive and the beer selection is top-notch.

Each time I have been here has been pretty late in the night (1 am - close).  It tends to thin out by then, which is helpful considering the size of the place.

My experience has been bartenders that are a bit curt, but not rude per se.  The beer list is humongous, and can take some time to get through.  The bartenders are knowledgable.  Unless you are looking for something specific it may be better to ask for a recommendation.

I really enjoy going to Eulogy for beers and bites. Came here for Valentines Day with my boo. We shared a cheese board, frites, two types of mussels the beer and a type with a cheesy broth. Everything we ate was awesome.

Beer list is great, they offer more common microbrews as well as super rare beers. My one complaint about Eulogy is that the staff is always a bit rude. I have been here multiple times and the staff tends to be disorganized and at times hostile.

Eulogy has been an occasional stop in Old City on my nights out and I am very happy with my experiences there overall. Only one caveat: this place is more expensive than a usual bar in the area because of the import choices, so beware that this is not a cheap way to go on a Friday or Saturday night.

That being said, I love Eulogy (even as it breaks my bank). The entire place is cozy and dark and exactly the way I expect a bar to look. The bartenders are extremely knowledgeable about the beer (which is impressive because there is so much to choose), though they can be slightly snooty.

Beers: loads of Belgians, Belgians galore. Comparable to Monk's Cafe's beer Bible in the sense that an overwhelmingly large selection is offered (though not as many as Monk's), Eulogy's beer list should really come with a pair of magnifying lenses. I was so excited that a bar offered so many authentic Belgians as well as domestic Beligian-style brews -coughOmeggangandUnibrouecough- that I had a hard time choosing. I ended up drinking a Unibroue apple ale to start, which was not as tasty as I had hoped-- it was a little too sour for me. I then moved on to a Tripel Karmliet, which was unfortunately not served in its branded glass because apparently they walk off of the shelves at Eulogy. I can see why-- those glasses are beautiful.

Anyway, I also got an order of fries, which were typical Belgian-style frites and were served with a house aioli that wasn't bad, but also wasn't spectacular. The fries were incredibly filling and yummy, with a wonderfully crispy outside and fluffy inside. I almost took them home, but ended up finishing the plate somehow.

All in all, for two beers and an order of fries that was split, I spent almost $30. With that kind of cash, I can't afford to come to Eulogy all of the time, but when I do, I know I will have a good time.

I really like this place.  The beer selection is pretty incredible. The food is quite good as well. The hamburgers are actually made by hand, with some great spices.  The fries are great too. They come with great sauces.
The service is good, always friendly. I consider this place one regular's.

Parking is free after 7pm here. Hint hint.

Go here, eat, drink, then digest to a movie at Ritz. Great date.

Their fries are awesome. Look at the picture. You can practically eat that picture.

The burger is huge, with a healthy portion of fries, and dirt cheap yet delicious.

    I will be back.

The sheer number of beers alone makes this place a must.  I'm not sure if I'm exaggerating by saying they have hundreds of beers but it sure seems like it.  Getting your diners drunk probably bumps their rating up a notch.  Had the pot of mussels and clams and it was fairly good; very buttery but a bit overly saliferous.

Would come again just to try new beers.

This is a great beer bar, and here's what I like most about it: they'll serve you a Bud Light, PBR, or whatever, if you really want one; but they'll charge you craft-beer prices for it. It's sort of a sin tax on bad beer. Great concept.

The space is small, and frequently crowded, so big groups won't do so well here. The best strategy for getting a table or bar stool is basically to 'get lucky'. Still, the service is good, the draft beers are good, and this is a place I'd definitely visit again.

I was really excited to try Eulogy because I had heard about the great beer selection and fun atmosphere.  When I finally got to go with a couple of friends, we made a reservation that would give us a couple of hours to try some interesting Belgian beers before we went to a movie at Landmark, just down the road.

We ordered dinner and one round of drinks.  The wait time was a little long, but nothing too unusual for a busy evening in Old City.  After I finished my first beer, my glass sat empty for a pretty uncomfortable amount of time before I finally grabbed the server and asked for a second.  She never came back to ask my friends if they wanted a second round.  In fact, when she finally did come back, it was to ask us if we could close out so another group with a reservation could take our table.  The server later came by to apologize and explain that the incoming group had been putting a lot of pressure on them to find an open table, but by that point we had already closed the tab and were on our way out with a bad taste in our mouths.

We all felt like the restaurant was more concerned with fitting in as many customers as possible and less concerned with providing a good dining and drinking experience.  With so many great beer restaurants in Philly, I will never waste my time on one round of beer at Eulogy again.  The menu (food and beer) was quite similar to Monk's, so if I feel the need for another quality Belgian beer experience, I will head there instead...and hopefully get to enjoy more than one beer with friends.

I went into Eulogy at about 8:30pm on a First Friday.  It was by some miracle that we got a table just as we walked in, everything's is fend-for-yourself here and you have to order at the bar.
The draft list wasn't extensive and only had a handful of beers I would have liked...and of course the one that I wanted the most was kicked.  However, I have to say that their menu looked delicious and decently-priced for that area!  I got the grilled cheese with french fries and my date got one of the burgers.  Holy crap, that was one of the best grilled cheese sandwiches I have had in a long time!  The fries that they served were double-fried and absolutely perfect with a delicious dipping sauce.  I may have dreams about that meal.

Will definitely come back on a weeknight to see what that vibe looks like.

I'm not a beer person, by any stretch of the imagination. I mean I still go for Corona and Coors light for god's sake. But I want to say that the food here is awesome if you're a drunken carb overload person. But my drink of choice remains hard liquor.

I had their wild boar sausage, its so gamy and reminds you of a tavern in Eastern Europe its not even funny. Their mussels are a bit overcooked for my taste, but the butter/garlic combo with bread more than makes up for it.

However, the best part of this place is the upstairs ambiance, its by far the best I've ever had in Philly in terms of a good dark spot to hang out with the friends. The only thing I wish was that this wasn't in Olde City and filled with your normal run of the mill hipsters.

I remember being a college student and being confused at all those fancy can't-pronounce-'em beers and how I turned my nose up at them.

Now I shake my head at college-me stupidity while sipping on some Busty Blonde. After a few glasses of unibroue and hefeweizen, of course.

Eulogy is exactly the kind of bar I want to go to--cramped and low-key with a huge selection of beers and bartenders who both a) know their beer and b) take the time to make good suggestions. I studied abroad in Brussels in college, so Eulogy has all standards I loved in Belgium along with some new favorites. With owners from Bruges and a beer list like this I really don't think you can go wrong.

The Kwak (a Belgian specialty amber ale) and the Tripel Karmelit (full-bodied, smooth, slightly spicy) were the standouts. I had the Ommegang on special and it was crazy good, and we also tried the La Chouffe (Belgian) and the La Meule (a Swiss golden ale with sage, my least favorite).

Just those beers--no food--cost a pretty penny, so I don't really see this as an every Friday night type place. That being said, if you want to treat yourself to some truly delicious beers you won't find everywhere (or maybe anywhere) else, this is the spot.
