Fasta pasta..first of all, what a cheezy name!! What does this make me think of? That my pasta is going to be made fast? Maybe that was the best part because the taste wasnt great at all. This is pesto rigatoni i ordered..i did not see the traditional green color anywhere and something made it so salty and quite oily to be honest. Never a big fan of food which lacks the right seasoning. Also, why do i get the feeling that my food was heated rather than cooked?! :o maybe i shouldnt be all that honest since it is a carryout place at the french metra market. But i think everyone is entitled to good food and anybody can cook
Review Source:Fasta Pasta is located in the Chicago French Market. Â My friend and I settled on this vendor after making a trip around the market. Â Pasta is a dish I'll get anywhere because I love it so much so why not try some at a place with "pasta" in its name? Prescient by no means, I nevertheless had the feeling as I stood in line that I'd be disappointed somehow. Â I suspect my friend felt the same way. Â But we didn't leave. Â Unfortunately, we were so wracked with indecision because of all the vendors at the CFM that leaving a line we so tepidly filed filed into to continue our search would have been simply futile. Â We were so hungry at that point that we just wanted to get our eat on. Â
At Fasta Pasta, you select the type of pasta, the sauce, and any extras (like meat) you want in your dish. Â It's then served up in what looks like a takeout box from a Chinese restaurant. Â Ah, nothing reminds me of pasta more than a Chinese takeout box. Â Anyways, I went with a version of Chicken Alfredo that had corkscrew pasta in it. Â I appreciate that the pasta isn't sitting in a warming tray all day. Â Instead, they boil it for you after you place your order. Â Nice, I wouldn't be getting mushy pasta. Â The sauce and chicken were also good but certainly not exceptional. Â
In the end, Fasta Pasta is simply overpriced. Â An order of the pasta and a 20 oz. drink came out to about $10, which would be a good price were it not for the relatively small portion that you get. Â Also, expect to pay more if you get your pasta with a premium item like shrimp. Â You may also have to spend more if you get a different sauce. Â
Fasta Pasta is a decent place, but I certainly didn't leave full and my money could have been better spent elsewhere.
We tried the gnocchi bolognese and loved it. True, the one entree with a drink cost $12, because both the pasta and the sauce had upgrade charges, but that's about what I would pay at a sit-down restaurant, and I would have to waste all that time sitting down. Â The gnocchi and sauce were at least as good as they would be in a typical Italian restaurant, and yet the dish was prepared fresh in 2 - 3 minutes. Â The portion was huge, and the container kept it piping hot all the way through lunch.
Review Source:Yeah, I've gotta say that I ain't impressed. Â I've eaten lunch here twice now. Â The first time, I ordered Gnocchi Pesto. Â The second time, I got Penne with Vodka Sauce. Â Both times, I had to pay extra for "Premium Sauce" and, quite frankly, I felt gypped. Â If you're gonna charge extra for sauce, you better drown the fucking pasta in there, ok? Â I paid an extra dollar or two for a premium sauce... Give me some fucking sauce, alright?
I'll stick to the Crepes joint or the Sandwich place where I feel like I get value for my money.
Recently tried Fasta Pasta, and overall, I'm pleased. Â Menu is pretty simple, choose your pasta, choose your sauce, get meatballs, add Parmesan cheese and basil if you like. Â I chose the rigatoni pasta with a premium (extra charge) vodka sauce, topped with Parmesan cheese and basil. Â It was pretty good, as service was pretty fast. Â Price was good, but when you start adding up additional or premium stuff, it may get up there a little.
Overall, good food, good service, reasonable prices.
I go here if I've had an emotional day and need pasta, and want it quick... And I went here when I was in radiation treatment and need soft and milky plain food for my stomach... Um... It's alright, but it's not fantastic. They're out of their veggies a lot (the brocolli and mushrooms that you can use in the mix)... and it's way too expensive to be what it is... But I still come back... Kind of like American cheese... There's something comforting about it... But not much fantastic about it...
Review Source:This probably isn't a totally fair review because I'm not really a pasta person. However, today I stopped by here for lunch and got the multigrain penne with the vodka sauce and fresh basil and grated parmesan. Very rich and filling. I imagine if pasta is your thing, you'd probably like this place.
Review Source:I love pasta, and it was pretty good here but it wasnt great. I had the tortellini with marinara and grilled chicken, and yeah it was good but idk if it was just mine but the chicken was a little weird and kind of mushy. I like the whole idea though- getting fresh pasta on the go, but yeah it was also pretty expensive ($11.50).. and the only thing that I hadnt tried before on the menu was the portabello ravioli. So yeah, it was just kind of lacking in the price and variety area's...
Review Source:There are some days a girls just got to get her carbs on. It's tough to find a quick pasta lunch where something actually tastes fresh, so Fasta Pasta is a welcome addition to the French Market. The Chinese take out container type receptacles are perfect for heaping portions of rotini, whole grain penne or rigatoni, but there are 5 pastas to choose from (4 additional stuffed pastas are an additional $3) sauces and toppings. I walked away having spent $6 (tax is included) and was happy with my hearty lunch.
Review Source:I am a fan of any place that has good pasta with great sauces and accompaniments. Fasta Pasta is just that.
I love their penne with alfredo sauce, parmesan and fresh basil. Simple and delicious. I must go back to try the vodka sauce next time.... but what I would really love is a carbonara - Fasta Pasta, please add that to your menu :)
went here after work to grab something quick for dinner, for $7.50 you choose your pasta (additional charges for premium pastas:gnocchi, ravioli), choose your sauce (premium sauces $1.50) & choose toppings (additional charge for meatballs). I just opted for a simple pasta: campanelle pasta w/ the bolognese sauce topped with parmesan & basil. It was pretty good, the take-out box portion was filling and the service was pretty fast. If you're in the mood for some pasta at the french market then fasta pasta would be a good place to go.
Review Source:A coworker and I wandered into the French Market to go to the cheese mart. Â Lo and behold, no more cheese mart. Â (WAHHHHHHHHH.) Â Instead, we have Fasta Pasta, a takeout pasta joint. Â
The concept is simple - choose your pasta, sauce, add basil or parm, and add meatballs if you like. Â A basic pasta + marinara + drink is $7.50, which isn't a bad price. Â But choose one of the "premium" sauces and "premium" pastas and the same combo suddenly runs you $12. Â
I had the gnocchi with vodka sauce. Â It was.....fine. Â The pasta was a tad overcooked, the sauce was good, and they didn't really put much parm on top. Â The portion was a good size for gnocchi (which I tend to think is more filling than other pastas), but if you get the same portion of regular pasta for that price, I'd probably think it was a rip off. Â
The folks behind the counter were nice enough, and I do like that they cook your pasta to order somehow. Â But I'm not really jonesing to head back here right away.
So, this restaurant is within the Chicago French Market area below Ogilvie station. My receipt said it's at 29 N. Wacker, which is strange and it's not, but it's pretty new, so... okay, I guess...
They have pasta. It's 6 bucks for basically the size of medium Chinese food container. Pick the type of pasta from several choices (a few with meat or mushroom are $1.50 more), pick a sauce (again, more fancy sauces are $1.50 more), and you can pick some fresh basil or Parmesan cheese to add to it. That's pretty much it. You can get some pop, and it's $1.50 for (I think) a 20 oz bottle if you're buying pasta.
I got the rigatoni with bolognese sauce with Parmesan cheese. It was tasty, but it felt concerningly light for my $7.50 (meat sauce costs more). It should be noted that the pasta was _not_ overcooked, and that should be applauded. They were cooking small batches on the fly, possibly they were not fully cooked earlier in the day and then finished off? I don't know.
I'm generally one to scoff at the yelp reviews of a place that bemoan tiny portions and all, but this felt bit pricy for how much food I got. I'm saying this being someone who is generally okay with the higher prices of things within the French Market. Maybe I should have picked a more dense pasta, I don't know.
Anyway, my stance at the moment is "I don't really recommend it, but I will probably reevaluate it in a few months." I figure a really good sauce might win me over a bit more, but my attempt didn't really win me over. I was thinking 2 stars, but then I decided that the quality was decent enough to bump it up.
