It might be a hyperbole to say that John P. Fields has the best turkey burger of all time, but they do. Alcohol may or may not have played a part in this determination, but I will stand by it. Â What made their turkey so good? The patty was spiced up pretty good and tasted like sausage instead of dry turkey breast. Always a plus. Then, there was some kind of delicious cheese melted on top of that, and grilled peppers. Add a side of perfectly seasoned waffle fries to that and you've got the best burger I've ever eaten. There's a small-ish patio in the back for when it's not too cold or rainy. Oh, also they have drinks.
Review Source:JP Fields is our usual hangout. We have came here for everything including dinner, drinks, baseball, football, to hang with friends and to even just catch up with Brian who works there.
PBR tallboys are $2, a price you just can't beat! My husband loves the buffalo chicken dip and I absolutely love the fried cod sandwich with cheese. Overall, the service is fantastic, the food is great, the atmosphere is everything one could ask for in a sports bar.
Parking is convenient in a parking lot nearby and if full we usually always can find a spot on the street that is not too far.
John P. Fields is the perfect place to meet friends for a drink or have a casual night out close to home.
My favorite part about this bar is the back deck. This outdoor area includes flat screen TVs, couches, and tables with umbrellas. It's not very large so be prepared if it is a busy night. We went a couple of times after Clayton's Parties in the Park and both the inside and outside deck was pretty packed.
I have not tried the food and the service is just ok. Not sure if they are supposed to serve you when out on the patio, but the table next to us had a server. No one ever came to ask us if we needed anything so we just went to grab drinks at the bar inside.
Overall, JP Fields is an average neighborhood pub hangout  with the back deck being the highlight for me.
I was pleasantly suprised by my experience at JP Fields. Â The place was a typical pub, a little dark inside, old wooden tables, and a few drafts on tap. Â We went here for a happy hour after work, and it was perfect for that. Â It wasn't too crowded for a Tuesday night. Â We were able to easily get a table and the service was very attentive.
We ordered appetizers  and drinks.  My favorite was the fried pickles and the house made ranch for dipping.  Yum!  The pickles were chips, not spears, which is my preference.  They were really good.  And salty!  We also tried the buffalo chicken dip, the bean nachos, and of course, the gravy cheese fries!  I was really looking forward to these, and they were just ok.  You can put gravy on just about anything and I will eat it.  So I didn't have much of a problem polishing off the Poutine.  I've never had it up north or out east, so I don't really have a comparison, but this version was pretty good. Â
The best part of the night....when I checked in on Yelp I got a free Busch or Busch Light! Â Can't argue with free beer. Â I will definitely be back to try more of the menu.
Buffalo Chicken Wrap! Actually, anything on this menu is excellent. Â To the younger crowd in STL, this Clayton establishment is most likely synonymous with meeting your group of friends for a night of cocktails. Â Here's what I suggest: drop in at around 8:30 or 9:00pm on a Friday or a Saturday night, grab a table, order dinner (I suggest the wrap or the cheese quesadilla), and then stay for a couple of hours to have some drinks with friends. Â Let's be honest, your friends were probably going to be meeting at Fields for drinks anyway. Â
The ambiance is that of a typical bar. Â Dark wood booths, tables, and floors make it feel slightly more upscale than you average pub-fare dining experience. Â The walls are adorned with sports memorabilia, and there is a giant chalk board in the dining area that dictates the specials for that day/night. Â
Parking can be a bit of a nightmare. Â If you snag a parking spot behind the building, consider yourself lucky. The best time to ensure a parking spot is after the Happy Hour crowd leaves and before the nightlife crowd arrives. Â
The staff is great! Everyone from the bartenders to the servers/ cocktail waitresses is super friendly.
I have been here many times to either catch a bite to eat and have a drink or two, or three, or four...
The menu is your typical bar menu with the burgers, salads, and apps. I highly recommend their taco salads or their wings! Both are quite yummy to the tummy. On weekend or game nights, it gets very crowded but if you're with the group, this is a fun place to hang and get loose!
Stopped in to grab a quick bite to eat during the St. Louis Art Fair. My friend and I sat outside on the patio for some lunch. I had probably the best chicken salad sandwich I've ever had. It wasn't weighted down with the typical heavy mayo, yet loaded up with grapes, walnuts, celery, etc. on a crispy croissant.
The inside has sporty bar and grill feel to it that's casual and comfortable. Definitely recommend this place to grab a yummy lunch at an affordable price in the heart of Clayton.
Came in for drinks with a distinguished and older friend who was visiting from out of town. We took him to JP Fields because they have good drinks... big mistake! The service was HORRIBLE! I have never been so embarrassed and infuriated in my life! On a Thursday night the female bartender turned the music up so loud we couldn't have a conversation. I politely asked if she could turn it down and she said she couldn't. I thought that was so rude since we were the only guests in the restaurant! I paid the bill and left, even though we would have stayed and had several more rounds if the service was better. As we were standing outside of the restaurant planning our next move the bartender blared the music to a deafening level for us to all turn around then she turned it down and had her and the other wait staff laughing at us. Completely unnecessary. By far the worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant. My husband called the manager the next day to report the behavior and the manager (who was not present the night before) could care less. We will never, ever, ever go back. I warn everyone of this place now.
Review Source:Came here for drinks and it's a typical bar/pub.
The drinks are pretty standard priced.
But the good thing about this place is apparently this is where all the beautiful people hang out on a weekday. Â Maybe it was just because school is out now. Â But seriously on Wednesday night I have never seen so many attractive women located in 1 place in St. Louis before.
Let me start out by saying that I had a genius idea upon arriving to JP Fields this evening for dinner... It's a TV show called 'True Life: I'm Trying to Find a Clayton Parking Spot.' Sheeeesh... What a headache!
I like this place. It's cool. If I talked this way I'd say it's 'chill.' An old friend and I wanted to grab dinner somewhere low maintenance with good, reliable food and drinks, and it was a perfect choice. Only a couple other people in the restaurant at 5pm, it was easy to have a good conversation and abnormally quick service. I went with my predictable rum & diet with lime, and also earned a free beer when I checked in on Yelp that I plan on using very soon!
Menu was okay, food was good but not great. Like I said, it's a reliable place, so you know you'll see some standard favorites on the menu. I had the Reuben today and embarrassingly I ate all of it... The corned beef was pretty dry, and if you like sour kraut, I advise you ask for a little extra. The house fries were to die for and carb-o-licious.
I've never been here at night but I hear it gets ridiculously busy and full of college kiddos. I wouldn't object to coming back again for a good lunch or dinner!
I found the hidden gem of the place is the back deck. Â Small couch along with tables and chairs with views of 2 32" flat panels... Â ~?
I was hanging out & thinking how cool it was...  ~!?
                  ~!!? what is that smell?
Went down the steps- they built the deck over a dumpster.
I will be back because I saw a sign for a late Saturday happy hour from 6-10 PM w/ $2 domestic draughts & bottles plus $5 appetizers does not sound bad to me.
I will be sitting on the sidewalk cafe or the nice pub, unless the wind is blowing right. Â ~!!!
Just down the way from Kilkenny's these two establishments offer similar drink but greatly different experiences.
To me JP Fields is the type of place you head to when you are look for good drink over conversation (versus Kilkenny's where you find yourself tilting your head to stare and the multitude of flat screens).
This place gets good and packed (it's small) so order a lot up front so you aren't going back and forth to the bar battling the crowds.
John P. Fields a small pub located in the heart of downtown Clayton, welcomes each patron as the walk through the door. Â The bartenders and waitresses great people as they come in as they quickly try and find a place to sit in the increasingly crowded bar. Â Soon it will only be standing room, but that won't bother some people just so long as they have a drink in their hand. People of all types gather here, from the business professionals to the local college students chatting up the air around them.
Like all places where you can get a drink there is always food available. Â At John P. Fields they offer much of what other bars have to eat as well, some kind of appetizer, the main meal, and of course, something to drink. What they have to offer is the usual burger, sandwich, toasted raviolis, and wide selection of drinks. While having eaten at John P. Fields, the one thing that stays constant is their enjoyable atmosphere and reasonably priced drinks. Â The food though, can be hit or miss sometimes, though, most of the time is sways on the side of good. Â The only real complaint is that if anything, the food is a bit dry.
All in all, John P. Fields is a nice place to go for a bite to eat, drink, and a place you and your friends can gather together for an enjoyable night.
