Don't know why it took me forever to eat at Five Guys, but when a buddy of mine took me a few months ago for my first time at this S. Loop location, I was SO impressed.  The bacon cheeseburger was AMAZING.  I didn't order any fries because I was going to share with the friend I came with.  But when the guys dishing out the orders found out it was my first time and I didn't have any fries with my burger, they just gave me a regular order of fries (with the customary extra scoop of fries in the bag) for FREE.  For a chain restaurant, that was a super nice touch.  Thanks Five Guys!  I'll be back.

Five guys is my favorite fast food burger place and the location in the south loop is my favorite branch.  Definitely has the friendliest staff in Chicago

Great burgers, and great fries. The cajun fries are a must. Also, they don't charge for extra toppings, which is definitely a plus in my book. I also love this place because you can see the employees cooking, which means it is probably a lot cleaner than other burger places in the area.

Very great service. Everyone there is very friendly, quick and courteous. The food is good never had a bad five guys burger good flavor and lots of topping options. Can't beat the coke machine Cherry Vanilla Coke is my favorite l. Parking isn't easy though there is a empty lot next to them but don't think it's there's still parked there the three times I went I always take it to go.

Meh....This was my first experience at a Five Guys, and honestly I think it's a little hyped up. The environment is pretty cool and I appreciate their free peanuts, and their creative approach to the Cajun Fries. However, I thought the cheese burger was a little too greasy. Honestly it's probably a PHENOMENAL option for a late night snack after a few drinks, but alas, I not so well prepared when I visited.

This place is across the street from my work and after a long day (or weekend) I end my shift with a nice juicy little burger. As I've said in other reviews about Five Guys, I enjoy the fact that the menu is simple and that my burger is made to order. The toppings are also always fresh. You can order and pay online if you are really in a hurry or are tired of interacting with the human race (hey, it happens to the best of us). The little cup for fries? You're getting a whole bag man. Sidle up to any table here and strap on a feed bag. It's going to be a good day.

I had the BEST experience at this Five Guys location.
We had visited a couple other locations in the past, so my expectations going in weren't that high.  This location totally redeemed Five Guys' reputation.
The staff was very friendly and made sure my order was perfect. Excellent customer service!

Standard five guys, free peanuts, great and plentiful cajun/normal fries (no sweet potato fries here), great burgers and pretty good hot dogs. Drinks are self-served from a Coca-cola freestyle machine so you can have that raspberry sprite zero if your heart so desires.
Their burgers aren't pretty to look at and should probably be eaten immediately, but what greasy fast food sin't like that?
Pretty friendly crew too which is a plus.

I have been to Five Guys all over the country (including the Chicago Clybourn one) and have never been disappointed.  In fact, we love their burgers. However, we have been to this franchise on Wabash at least 4 times and the burgers her are far below anything we've had at other Five Guys.  The first time we went to this one, we thought it was subpar just because they had been opened for less than a month and needed to work out the kinks. Subsequent visits showed no improvement though.  Every time we ask for mayonaise, they put so much on there it's oozing out of the bun and you can scrape off at least half a teaspoon of it and still have more than enough.  The meat is also pretty bland and tasteless. Worst of all though, they never seem hot enough.  As another reviewer said, the cheese isn't even melted. As for the "abundant"  order of fries you get Five Guys is famous for, this one doesn't give you nearly as much as the others.  With the overflow in the bag, there's usually plenty for 3-4 people.  Here, the portion we got barely fed the two of us .... the cup and maybe 7 fries in the bag.  Never been to a Five Guys we didn't like, so this is a first.

Oh my goodness, oh my dayum, this was disappointing. This was not a burger worthy of this song: <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DDcJFdCmN98s&s=fece7a821451bef962c5a2012ec1c8e03c4c38dc606d643f8d37db39e656b609" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.youtube.com/w…</a>

I've been to Five Guys in NY before, and was wowed by the delicious greasy mess I was served. Here? I ordered a cheeseburger and the dayum cheese wasn't even melted. Blah.

FINALLY after years of living in the city I tried Five Guys.  The hype did not disappoint.  My burger was great - juicy, slightly greasy with the perfect ratio of bun to cheese to meat.  The other yelpers are right, the fries are plentiful (don't let the small looking cup fool you, they pile them high in the bag).  I got the bacon cheeseburger, but would probably go without bacon next time...it didn't add much to the experience.

I love that you can order and pay online too!  Plus the staff was upbeat and friendly.  Definitely a place to stop for a quick bite or if you're craving a burger.  The prices is similar to what you'd find at a diner.

I was underwhelmed by the burger here. Perhaps it's because I only got onions and mushrooms on it, but personally I think if a burger is good, you don't need a lot of extra stuff on it. And the well done thing? Not MCOT at all. I like my meat medium rare and seasoned well. This was neither and I was disappointed after hearing people hype it up so much.

The 2 stars are for the fries (Cajun) and the soda fountain. I mean, how cool is the soda fountain? I wish I had one at my house.

I don't really eat fast food burgers so I don't really get the hype around 5 guys.  I enjoyed the free unlimited toppings.  Also the fries are tasty.

    This place is OK.

Yes, the burger is $5, it's greasy and you get a mountain of fries. I felt it was a lot of hype and not a lot of substance.

I guess the market is the college kid that wants a greasy burger for $5.00 -  for that ok, they fit the bill.

If anybody could give Mickey D's a run for its' money on best fries of all time, it'd be Five Guys.    Unfortunately I have to rate the burgers as well, and they're just ok, and really pricey.  I'd rather go a few blocks north and grab some epic burger, but if you're craving awesome fries, free peanuts, and a decent burger, Check out five guys, I'm sure you'll leave happy.

These people know their business, the staff is fast, nice, the burgers are very good, the prices are fair, the Cajun fries are a pleasant thing to eat after just having boring plane fries from every restaurant. it is a very convenient and tasty place to visit, I would recommend to go and eat any time you are in a mood for burgers.

The 4 stars is only because they are missing the wheat bread it will be a nice addition.

What do you want? It's a Five Guys. It's a nice looking burger that feels just a tad too expensive, but it's pretty darn good and you get infinite (seriously, more than you can eat) fries.

Places like this tend to have an anonymous sense of corporate ownership, and this location is no exception. No real charm here, you give them money, you get a burger. (This isn't necessarily true for all chains - for example, check out the Trader Joe's across the street.) That's particularly endemic to the South Loop neighborhood.

So, yeah, this is about as good as you're going to do in this part of town. Enjoy!

There is such a craze for burgers these days and this particular Five Guys does not disappoint. Their burgers are probably the same from any other Five Guys, but what makes this place more special is that the service is really friendly and attentive. Customer service gets 5 stars. The place is also very clean. I'll definitely go back.

Hmm..I'm not quite sure what the hype is about for Five Guys. I thought the burgers were only okay, especially for the price. I personally think In-N-Out burgers or Epic burgers taste better.  The only thing that I really enjoyed were the Cajun fries since they are different from other burger joints.  Expect to pay almost $10 for a burger and fries (no drink). Of course I'd like this place to do well, but I think they should lower their prices for me to frequent this place more often.

Eh. I think a lot of people over hype Five Guys. Staff is nice, but I think the food just is okay.

    Price- Pretty cheap.
Quality- The burgers I feel are pretty compact and not that juicy or anything.
Quantity- You get a good amount of fries. They fill your bag to the brim with them.
Staff- Very nice. Very impressed with the staff.
Atmosphere- What you'd expect from Five Guys.

Probably only go back if other stuff is closed. I do like to say "Last night my girlfriend stuffed her mouth with 5 guys."

This place just opened, I'm harsh on restaurants- tend to only review the places around where I live (South Loop) and won't hold anything back. Feel free to read my other reviews.

I work in the loop, live a block from this particular 5guys, have been here a dozen times since it opened and will continue going back. The service is what you'd expect (good), the atmosphere is lively (an unimportant quality for us), and most importantly the food is good and fresh.

We cook a lot at home as well, and make an impossible to beat organic (chemical free, genetically unmodified, naturally grown, the way food was created beginning of time - 60 years ago) burger on wheat buns with organic toppings.. but when we're a little tired this is our go-to place. You really can't go wrong with this FiveGuys, best burger place in South Loop and certainly as-good or better than the other franchises available in Chicago.

While you can (if you know what you're doing) make a better burger at home, and while not grassfed beef - they do claim to not use ammoniated beef at all, regardless if it's pink slime or not. Please correct me if I have this wrong.
Keeping that in mind, I find this place acceptable for a burger made outside of our home. One of very few places I'd approve of to eat beef I didn't verify the source of myself.

Just don't order the large fries though, they give you a very generous portion with the regular size- it goes well with the great value this place offers. A tip we got from one of the cashiers, thanks- you didn't lose any business helping us out.

We go once a week on average.

This place was nap-inducing greasy goodness..It lacks some of the frills (no wheat buns?) that some of its competitors offer but not too shabby if you're in the mood for a burger and fries....and then a nap.

I'm from Arlington.  The birthplace of Five Guys.  Is it as good as the real deal?  Pretty much.  Sorry In-N-Outers, but Five Guys kicks your ass.

It's bitter sweet that this place wasn't around while I was at Columbia.  If it were, I'd be a fatso.  The burgers at Five Guys are really flavorful and come doubled up in each burger so there is plenty of food.  You choose your toppings right at the register.  You know what you want, you know what you get.  It really hits the spot.  The fries are really spectacular and so are the shakes.  Really, everything on the menu is awesome and peanuts are free.  Kind of random, but they're there.  The staff was many and they were really friendly.

If it tells you anything, Five Guys was voted best burger in DC every year since 99 or something.  Boomshakalaka!
