    I suppose I have short-term memory
which is why I've returned here more than twice.
The sticky floors and stinky building
are the leaders of what's not nice.
Perhaps I'm just not strung-out enough
to enjoy it for its rotten allure.
I'll leave this place for others
    less discerning to endure.

The location is fantastic, I love the village. The food was awesome, huge portions. The staff was super nice, balance of checking on us and leaving us some space. But..they allow smoking in the whole place(it's a small place). That just killed it for me. Maybe if I can sit outside, it'll be okay.

Flatiron has several very good dishes, especially for the price. The turkey meatloaf sandwich is awesome -- probably the best thing on the menu. There's one server in particular who does a fantastic job - unfortunately, I don't know her name.

Oh, and drinks -- beer, booze, etc. Pretty standard. No complaints here.

Flatiron you deserve another star. Here you go. Congratulations.

Really, they do have some great food here. I would say the burgers rival the Vortex and the atmosphere is so much better.

Come here for surprising good food that is well priced.

My favorite bar in East Atlanta. I am all Carnivore, but I gotta tell ya, Flat Iron's Veggie Samosas and Vegetarian Chili are the best. The Chili is the best I have ever had, meat or not. Cheap drinks and a great atmosphere. Become a regular and enjoy the company of a wide variety of people. Dog friendly (on patio). Service is good for the most part. If you feel anti-social, sit there, drink your PBR, and watch the show that is East Atlanta Village.

I haven't had food here yet, so I'm not going to comment on that, but with the cool ambiance, fun music, and a bar that will top up my Captain and Coke with more Coke makes me happy.

I really love the kitschy decor.

The Flatiron is full of magic. Seriously, I love this place more than anything in Atlanta. I am probably here at least a couple of times a month. I've even brought my dogs to the outdoor section to hang out. If I were given the task of rebooting the TV show "Friends," I'd have it set here. It's like Central Perk on bath salts.

The food is pretty damn good, but what sells this place is the people watching. This place is right in the center of East Atlanta, so you get all the amazing people walking by. Hell, one night a dude dressed up as Mick Jagger came by our table.

Note: It takes a while to get your order, so bring your friends for conversation and don't come hungry. Everything else will make you forget about how long it takes to get your order. I bring all of my out of town guests here and they love it.

This is one of my favorite dives in the village. The food is always good, the service can be both good or bad. Always ask for Bethany, she's my favorite server. One of my favorite things about this bar is that they have a patio with incredible people watching (since 529 is across the street). They also allow dogs on the patio, which is really convenient. Bethany came out with water and treats for the pup (he's fickle about treats so of course he declined).

The drinks are cheap which keeps me coming back. Tuesday nights they have $3.75 pitchers of PBR which is definitely the best deal in the area. Inside can get kind of smokey but there's always a good vibe going. The service is always hit or miss with any restaurant in East Atlanta, but my good experiences have outweighed the bad here.

    Food good. Service bad.

Not surprised about the service though; I've heard many complain about it. I think the problem was that we were switched from the bartender (friendly and prompt) over to the server... who I guess decided that every other task on her list had to be done before bringing our check. Finally got fed up and just calculated the bill in my head and left that plus 18% tip on the table.

Oh yeah, and even when people aren't smoking in there the place smells terrible. But more like cat piss than stale cigarette smoke.

A true dive. Full of personality. Good service and good drinks. Always to be considered on a night out in East Atlanta, perhaps before or after a show at The Earl.

If I'm bar hoping around the village...I like going to Flat Iron to start off my night. The bar is filled with tattoo art and lots of deer art (which I love!). There's a little spot in the corner that's my favorite sitting area...just gotta get there at the right moment to get that spot. I haven't had much of their food...I'm usually there just for drinks. I sound like an alcoholic. lol. Oh...talking about drinks...I don't believe they serve cognac there. Booooo.

Well, I went back there last night and had great service. Wish I could have gotten his name to give him some recognition.

This place would have been more useful if it was a flatiron for my hair.  Especially since I now have to wash and straighten my hair after being around so much cigarette smoke.  Seriously, who still allows smoking inside...or even in the outdoor seating area so close to open doors and windows?

I get the point of a dive bar, but this place is so far gone from being divey that it's just dingy and nasty.  The beer and food menus were each quite small.  The place gets a second star for actually having a handful of good craft brews.  Other than that, most of them were shitty American piss-water.  I had the Bell's Kalamazoo, which was a nice, full-bodied, chocolatey stout.  There's a full bar as well.

The Porter Beer Bar (<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz/the-porter-beer-bar-atlanta">http://www.yelp.com/biz/…</a>) is just a couple of miles away, has about a million more beers available and is overall a better and smoke-free environment.  We should have stayed there.

Backing up all the good stuff that I've heard about this place before, Flatiron Restaurant & Bar delivers one of the better "big" burgers that I've had in Atlanta...

PLEASE NOTE:  When I call something a "big" burger, it's a "sit down" sorta burger -- larger than, say, a Grindhouse or Five Guys burger.  A "big" burger is gonna be served by wait staff and, in most cases, will need to be cut in half to avoid having it fall out of the bun into your lap.

    1st - 4th stars - A damn good burger at a reasonable price

I've only been once. Stopped here for dinner prior to a night of sober Dungeons & Dragons with fellow geek co-workers.

I ordered the standard burger -- medium with tots.  I seem to remember it was a $9 burger. They don't have a website that I can find to confirm this, so you'll have to take my word on it.

15-20 minutes later -- one of the best looking burgers I've ever seen was brought to my sidewalk table. Perfectly cooked. All the trimmings done just right. Not horribly messy either.  The tater tots were great too (not that you can really screw those up).

Lost 5th star - Indoor smoking still allowed

Smokers can bitch all they want to about this missing star.  Hear me out.

Kudos to Flatiron for keeping it 18+ in their bar for smoking.  That's what I love about America.  They didn't "kid friendly" the place, just like The Vortex.

That said, if I couldn't get a seat out on the sidewalk on a busy night, Flatiron wouldn't get my patronage.  Their burger is to die for, and the other food I shared with friends on my first visit was terrific too.  Alas, my sinuses and contacts couldn't make it through a meal indoors.

Smoking hate aside, you should give Flatiron a try.

I love this place. It's been forever since I've been to a place that still allows smoking indoors, so that was a bit off putting, but other than that, I seriously cannot wait to go back. The waitstaff seem a bit indifferent, but they are prompt enough. I am not really a beer person, but they have cider, and Sweetwater 420 is tolerable to me, so I can't really complain. The food is the real star, though.

After reading about how awesome their fried green tomatoes are, I looked in vain, but they were not on the menu. The waitress told me they don't do them anymore. :( We ended up sharing the veggie samosas. They are not authentic (obviously!), but I think it was really nice how they put their own spin on them. We both loved the sauces that went with them, as well.

We both got the southwest burger, although his was beef and mine was veggie. OMG. Their veggie burger is a bit crumbly, but otherwise delicious. I could not get enough of this burger. I also splurged the extra dollar for the sweet potato tater tots. Wow. The veggie burger was already filling but I could not waste a single one of those babies. The fries are quite good, but the sweet potato tater tots are AMAZING. I will probably have dreams about them.

Now my mouth is watering thinking about all this. Argh!

Local pub feel.  Great drinks.  Good service.  Solid hangout.

However... The reason my buddy and I keep going back here are the chicken wings.  A couple of things about these wings.  They're huge.  I mean, *noticeably* larger than the wings you get at other restaurants.  Also, we always order them "extra crispy" tossed in a mixture of the teriyaki and barbecue sauce.  They're always piping hot with a crunchy exterior, a juicy interior, and tossed in the right amount of the spicy, savory, sweet concoction of a sauce.  Not to be missed.

When we're trying to decide on a basket of wings, it's always a toss-up between The Flatiron and the smoked wings at The Albert.

Dark lights, tattoos and fast nighttime snacks.

Luckily when I ordered a huge to-go Styrofoam plate of Flatiron fries topped with cheese, bacon and scallions, three of my friends were available to help me quickly scarf the heap, leaving two molested containers of Ranch dressing and my waistline.

I was so hungry I didn't notice if it smelled like smoke.

This place is a great little dive bar with a prime EAV location.

The menu consist of affordable, beefy, comfort and delectable food that covers all my ABCD's of dining at a local joint.

This is another of those great Atlanta finds that is both pleasant to the taste buds as well as to the wallet.

But with the above keep in mind that this is not a place to go to if you have diets on the brain. This is a place where grease and butter are not a four letter word. Those two words are your friends here.

I highly recommend the following; the burgers, chicken wings, chicken egg rolls.

What to wash it down with... what else beer. They serve the biggest mug or stein of Newcastle I have ever seen for only a few dollars. What is not to love about that.

    ....

    I, I  just need a moment.

    3 words: Fried Green Tomatoes

On a sammich, by themselves, these little treasures are perfection in fried form.

The perfect comfort food to salve a wounded soul, the fried green tomatoes at FlatIron are better than the ones my grandmother makes.

But you won't catch me telling her that.

The chicken salad melt was amazing as well was the grilled cheese sammich with bacon......... oh gods the bacon.

If I could build a house out of this bacon, it wouldn't last long.  I'd eat myself out of it.

Just go find out for yourself.  You won't be disappointed.  Really.

When you walk in, you sort of think to yourself, "this place has no business calling itself a restaurant."  It is a bar that sells food. Plain and simple.

The inside was a little smokey, so we sat ourselves at a table outside.  The wait staff was friendly but a little inattentive.  We asked about the Yelp EAV specials and were given a pretty quick "no, we aren't doing anything."  Bummer. Oh well, it was pretty cheap anyway, so we weren't banking on specials to help foot the bill.

They had a relatively large beer menu, probably about 10 beers on tap and an even larger bottled list.

The food was good for bar food.  My friend who ordered the burger said it was better than others she has had at some restaurants in Atlanta.

I think if I lived in the area, I would be likely to come back, but it's certainly not a food destination.  Considering I live north of midtown, I doubt I will return.

Had a late lunch here with new friend Ashley before the EAV launch party and the burgers were pretty darn amazing!  Definitely cooked to perfection and sitting out on the patio on a beautiful Sunday afternoon made our dining experience even better!

The only drawback was that when we walked in, it took a few minutes to figure out if we had to seat ourselves or wait to be seated.  I had to ask one of the waitresses at the bar if we could just seat ourselves but thought a proper greeting would've been nice.

All in all, for a great burger in East Atlanta Village, check out Flatiron.

One of my favorite patios in Atlanta, for the people watching and the fact that at least one person I know stops at that traffic light every time I'm there.
I've never eaten here but the $3 PBR pitchers on tuesday nights have sucked me in more times than I can count. Great bar with a great jukebox selection, although for some reason they seem to get irritated if you play more than about 3 country songs in a row despite at least half of the selection being classic country songs.
I always get great service and for it being a smoking bar the air quality is very nice.

Scoutmob + burgers + cold beer + good service = yes, I'm a fan.  Of course, being just around the corner doesn't hurt either.  Music is a little loud but the smoke eaters definitely do their job - it wasn't too smoky for these two non-smokers.  Sitting outside is always an option, but we chose A/C instead.

Flatiron is a great neighborhood joint - laid back place with good food in East Atlanta Village.

The fried green tomatoes are where it's at at Flatiron.  Whether you get them as an appetizer or in their fabulous sandwich, they are a must order.  These are no wimpy, frilly, fried green tomatoes either.  They are thick slices in a delicious Guinness batter.  Just thinking about them is making my mouth water.

They have a nice little patio, plenty of parking in the lot across the street, and cider on tap.  All of that is nice, but really, just go for the fried green tomatoes.

went there in the summer with some girlfriends. it wasn't a planned outing or anything we just wanted to grab a bite. AWSOME!!!!!!!!!! They all had the nachos or something, but i had the softshell crab sandwich with some type of sauce and although there was colorful conversation flowing around me, i was totally into that sandwich... yum

the service was great as well. i felt as if they wanted us to be there you know. they were attentive with out being over bearing

Good EAV bar with good atmosphere.

The food is solid too. I had a mushroom and swiss burger that was a good 7.5 out of 10.  I had a bite of my buddy's cheesesteak which was pretty tasty also.

The service can be a little erratic so i wouldn't recommend if you're in a big hurry.

I've come here three different times and each time it's taken me over ten minutes to order a drink. And there has only been about 5 other people in the bar with three bartenders working. My good friend who lives in East Atlanta explained that unless you come there regularly, they will not acknowledge you. It took him months before they actually would wait on him in a decent and timely manner, which is a load of crap. I'm a bartender myself and I'd be fired if I gave service like this at my bar- and I can get away with a lot. He also swears their wings are great. Had I been able to get my waitress' attention, maybe I would be able to vouch for them.  As it stands, she walked right by me about 5 times, past my empty beer, and my repeated question of  "Can I have a menu please?"

Don't waste your time and money.

The brunch is 5 star worthy.
Huge delicious portions and the Sunday brunch staff is really nice.
The place didn't get 5 stars because at night sometimes the bartenders ignore you. Last week we went there to sit at the bar for some after dinner drinks. We were only there for a 1/2 hour cause they left me there with an empty pint for 20 minutes.

There were three things that immediately impressed me about this place - 1.) the Iron Maiden font used in their logo, 2.) the Bruce Lee mannequin on the bar, 3.) the Atlanta Rhythm Section music filling the smoky air, and 4.) the profusely tattooed waitrons.  FOUR...Four things immediately impressed me about this place.

Suddenly the word "four" looks entirely odd and incorrect.  Ok, now it's better.

Beer selection was fair, but the fries were fairly impressive.  This was the last stop on our pub crawl, so my taste buds were pretty abused at this point, and subtle beer and grub would have been lost on me.  But being at the end of the pub crawl allowed me to appreciate the vintage tattoo illustration on the wall, so it's a wash.  I think Flatiron really is an appropriate end to an EAV pub crawl for these and four other reasons: 1 .) the Iron Maiden font used in their logo, 2.) the Bruce Lee mannequin on the bar, 3.) the Atlanta Rhythm Section music filling the smoky air, and 4.) the profusely tattooed waitrons.

Great happy hour spot! Particularly love the tables outside (all 4 of them) during the Fall & Spring.

The food is better than average bar food. Everything I've eaten here is really tasty.

The Buffalo Chicken sandwich & fries gets 5 starts on my PMS rating scale. Just come here at Happy Hour if'n you want one, cause the Flat Iron is a super small bar & gets packed. You'll avoid any PMS-rage blackouts whilst waiting for your food.

Flat Iron is a good place to go for a beer, decent food and a diverse clientele.  Patio "sidewalk" is nice for some good people watching.  The music - typically rock -  is piped outside and adds to the atmosphere of having a good time drinking and conversing.

Service - not so good. Had to go to the bar to order drinks, the server did come out to take our food order - when he was ready - and we had to go to the bar to settle up.   What's up with that?????

But, I live in the area and have frequented Flat Iron many times and will continue to do so.  As I said, the food is decent and it really is a great place to chill as long as you are not impatient.

A friend and I tried to eat here last week. We are both nonsmokers but used to it at bars and restaurants. However, the thick cloud of cigarette smoke at Flatiron Restaurant & Bar smacked us in the face as we *neared* the door. Yuck!

Needles to say, we turned around.

One of my favorite bars to go get drinks and chat with friends. Even though the servers are slow they can pour a decent drink (except they don't know a lick about pouring Guinness - go to Limerick Junction in VaHi for one of these) and do it with a smile.

I'm not a smoker, so I have to deal with second hand smoke at a lot of places I frequent, but Jesus H. Christ on a Cracker can they not filter some of the smoke out of this place? It's gotten increasingly worse lately and I can't stand to be there more than an hour before I want to vomit.

I've never eaten here, so I can't comment on the food. I've never heard a bad comment about it.

They have one of the best juke boxes in the entire city. From Run DMC to Johnny Cash to Stray Cats to Motley Crue. I will love 9 out of 10 songs that get played from the jukebox.

Good drinks for a reasonable price, but christ the servers are slow. They are more worried about whats on the TV and chatting/smoking with people at the bar than serving the people at the tables. I did not try the food though what my friends got looked pretty good.

In reference to Michael's review, I did not see any graffiti behind plexiglass in the bathroom, but someone did draw a large image of a man having sex with an octopus above the urinal. Whatever floats your boat I guess.

I usually only go here to drink, and for that I always enjoy this spot.  They have a great bar space, and an outside patio that seems to be a direction point for non-locals as it is next to a light.  There were a few times while we have sat out there that people have asked us where The Vortex was, and we HAD to give them bad directions because we are neighborhood snobs and that is our thing.  If they were in East Atlanta, looking for L5P, they were obviously clueless.  I swear I will go to church and repent.  One day.

But last night I went here to actually eat, and I was not impressed.

I ordered the falafel wrap, and I got just about the driest, almost the consistency of dustballs, falafel wrap.  it came looking like some sort of oddball pizza.  Pita flat on the bottom, salad spread on top, and three crusty falafel balls on it to finish it off.   No way to fold it or wrap it.  Not what I call a 'wrap.'   I ended up peeling out the bottom of the falafel's pita so I could dip it in the hummus we ordered, which was passably good.

My sister seemed to like her salad, but we didn't delve too far into the menu.  For my obligatory vegetarian account- you can definitely eat here.  Vegans, I would not advise it.  Just eat at home and then booze it up here!

Ahhh...one of my favorites.  I wonder why I'm not there more often.  The food is incredible, especially given it is crafted in such a small kitchen.  The owners and staff are super-cool and really nice.  The patrons are local and laid-back.  I love the shape of the building, the location, and the intimate feel.

It is a museum of sorts.  I also think it is haunted...I remember a painting that hung over the west wall  (Flat Shoals side) about 8 years ago that had a completely different color to it depending on whether you looked at it straight on or reflected in the mirror behind the bar.  I used to think they put something in the beer and I still have a strained neck from pivoting, disbelievingly, back and forth between these two vantage points.

Perhaps the most bizarre and puzzling piece of men's room grafitto in Atlanta is enshrined behind a piece of plexiglas.  It is something that everyone seems to know about, but no one knows what is IS about.  If you speak or read German, maybe you can tell the rest of us what it means given the context of the aquatic theme.  I also like the Buddha statue on the Glenwood Avenue side.

Clearly, this is a place not to be missed.

I've never gotten drunk enough to try and steal the life size Bruce Lee mannequin, but I always think about it. Then again, I think I'd be divorced rather quickly for bringing that home, never mind the legal implications.

The bartenders are great, and they'll keep your glass full as long as you're drinking. The wings are nice and hot without being nuclear powered. The central location in the Village makes patio seating a must, even thought it's a bit cramped and only a few feet from the traffic. Flatiron has trivia on Monday nights, which is always a good excuse to spend an extra hour at the bar.

Great atmosphere, good drinks, but a few too many tourists.

I love this place but lately there has been an increase in the amount of what I can tourists coming in from the Northside of Atlanta. They lack respect for the staff and when a certain brand of liquor isn't carried they get bent out of shape.

    Keep the Flatiron Local!

God I love the food from this place. The atmosphere is very smoky, but it is a bar, so I try to get over that. Other than that, lots of locals, and lots of cool people hang out here. There is a full sized Bruce Lee statue on the bar, you can't go wrong in a place that has one of those!

Lots of tattooed cool people to check out too. Did I mention that the Buffalo Chicken Quesadilla is to die for? Because it is.
